Hey guys
i decided to lend my graphic skills(decent but im not a pro) to anybody who is doing ROM development, some devs usually want to change certain graphics but that can be time consuming so here i am lending my skills, is anybody interested? i also have to mention i've done some theming work here and there mainly on GoLauncher EX and apps from time to time but i would like to lend my skills to any developer out there who may benefit from this, i appreciate devs work and certainly without them we wouldn't have any of the roms or customizations on our phones and the graphic part is also as important as the rom itself, it sets the rom apart from the way it looks and that attracts peopl e.g. Sense 4, TouchWiz.
well i don't know if i explained myself but anyway =) , any of you guys interested?.

You guys are geniuses but all the ROMs I've found so far have that ugly T3D in them or no graphic interface at all. Are there no other choices for interfaces? Yes, I know I can install something over that but isn't there one with something else already cooked-in to replace TFlo3D?
Thanks

The reason why chefs don't cook "extra" UIs in the roms is because everyone has a different preference or taste. Some people may like TF3D, while some others like SPB Shell, while some others like Wisbar, while some others like IPT, while some others like Androkkid, while some others like Winterface, while some others.... I guess you get my point by now
Long story short, it is very difficult to please everyone. If you do not like TF3D, simply deactivate it from the Home Addons settings page. You will see absolutely no difference if cooked in or not simply because it is cooked in the rom, which is space that you will not get anyways. Besides, many UIs are actually paid apps (ie. SPB), so if you get them cooked in a rom, you will only have it for 15-30 days before you have to get yourself a license.
I hope this helps to clarify a thing or two.
Hey guys,a couple of days ago(or was it yesterday?) I stumbled upon this article at Phonearena, which pretty much states that HTC is making Sense open source.First of all,I personally believe it's very nice of HTC to respect developers with their latest actions. But I chose to jump ship for Samsung's better hardware(My f*@%@$ng GS2 isn't here yet ).
So,my question to you guys is,could this help things for porting Sense to the SGS2?I think it would help very very much. The time and effort needed will probably be dramatically reduced,so more devs may choose to make Sense ports for other devices.UNLESS it only has to do with modifying Sense and cannot help us.
And I beg you guys,do not flame me.I just prefer Sense over TouchWiz or Vanilla Android.Don't tell me I should have gone for an HTC device if I wanted Sense, that's not this community's spirit.
Thanks in advance!
I highly doubt they are "opening" sense. To me it looks like they are making it easier to develop sense specific apps (3d api and magic pen api). So no help in porting sense.

They're opening it up, not making it open! Very different. They're going to give access to certain APIs to help better integrate with 3rd party applications. But they're not going to give their delicious, fattening and buttery (and not to mention ONLY) creation to keep people on HTC .
I honestly think it's a lot of eye candy, give me a good widget any day
Oh...So I suppose it won't help in any way?

They are just opening it up so developers can write apps for their bloatware ui.
It will help developers/companies to make applications/widgets/whatever that run on Sense.
They are not making the source code of Sense available.
Sad... I also hoped this will help to port over Sense...
Does anyone know of an android launcher which is like the new Nokia N9?

It just seems like a nice fast way to get around the things you do most often and would be interesting to try it.
Thanks in advance..

1+................
Please! Make it so.
Willing to pay for a launcher that would look and behave like the N9 launcher.
it's so awesome
I would too be willing to pay for an android launcher working the same way as Nokia N9.
It would be great!
i have a couple comments on that.
firstly, being a galaxy S user, and having played with the Nokia N9, i can say that my phone, older than the N9, is far smoother and more responsive. Secondly, Meego is a bastardization of Android. The similarities are many, but very few characteristics of Meego measure up to the brilliance of Android.
secondly, the failings of Meego aside, the multitasking in the clip is certainly interesting. However I'm not sure i like the dependence on the side swipe, and the dedication of homescreens to open apps and drawer without folder functionality. It *looks* pretty good, but function-wise, i'm pretty certain that Android would piss me off less.
I like N9 idea too.Android ICS card and swipe would be a nice match.
have you looked at wave launcher which gives you webos up gesture?
That's definitely possible in Android.not sure developers want to develop.
This could be a money maker . . . I'd buy it
An enthusiastic +1 to this idea. I would love to see a project like this realized and I think that this N9-styled idea could be a solid money maker for the right developer. SPB made a killing with their mobile shells, right?
Also, think of all the poor souls stuck with no applications over at Nokia--this could give them enough familiarity and confidence to break their limiting patterns. It's really a mission of mercy.
If anyone has an idea of actions that we could take to move this idea along, or if anyone knows of any progress being made along these lines, please let me know or let us know on the forum.
Infinite flexibility shows that ICS can be whatever devs make of it.

Ok so this is my first post and im hoping its in the right spot! First off my name is TehJibba and ive been messing around with my evo3d sprint cdma for a few months now flashing different roms and exploring them. ive gone as far as installing dsxida's kitchen and fooled around with deodexing and other settings then flashing the results to my phone mostly with success.
So my main goal now is to get info on where to go from here.
What i want to accomplish in the end is to have a fully working evo3d with beats + leedroid + a custom kernel (yet to be decided on atm) As well as removing ALL stock bloatware leaving only whats needed to run the basic sense 3.6 on the 2.89. ics ota. To be honest all i really like of the stock htc widgets is the clock / weather widgets / animations everything else can go as far as im concerened. Eventually id like to port sense 4.1 to it as well (why? why not i like new dont you?)
So i hope that gives you a basic idea of what i want to accomplish. What i need is a few references as to possible hiccups while installing said mods and possible solutions that i might need. Im also in need of a list of evo3d 2.89 ics ota apps that can be safely removed but leave full functionality of the phne Or any insight would be nice along those lines. Be patient and remember we were all noobs at one point!
P.S. I was also wondering if theres a way to compensate the stock 1500mha full battery charge to 3500mha as i recently got an extended life battery
I'm gonna be hoppin back on the development game in a few weeks or so, so if you wanna PM or Gtalk me or anything, feel free because I would have no problem sittin down for a little while and help you sort some stuff out. Plus, it would help me shed some rust before I start toying around again haha :good:
Thank you man ill be taking you up on that offer. Im pretty adept at coding in general so this shouldnt be to hard to pickup

Just so coincidental that I signed on as soon as you replied lol, it's no problem at all. There's not really much you need to know as far as apps and mods and stuff, but actually digging deeper, that's when the fun starts. I'll be available to help probably tomorrow night, and then we can start rollin.
OK So thanks to beneath-a-burning-turtle and his kindness in helping a complete stranger this lil project is moving along nicely. Currently im averaging 490mb free ram, 140mb of installed apps leaving about 1gb free memory, as well as getting around 3600~ on quadrant. Total rom size (so far) is 323mb.
Im still in need of input tho from other experienced cooks, anything insightful or that would be a useful addition or anything really would be nice. So lets hear some feedback! :good: Also if theres anything thats considered a must have inthis project feel free to ask for it
Before I begin i'd like to say that I am not new to flashing, or these forums. I've been lurking about for a couple of years and thought it high time I become a member.
Little intro about me, I am a graphics designer and I am currently studying graphics design in college, i've had a few commission jobs mainly designing logos for bands and small businesses. I have studied IT and have touched upon C# coding (made a few small games) and visual basic. I am pretty decent at designing, creating and programming circuits for different uses. I am a pretty hands on person, i like to make things to fit my tastes and others when i need to, i'm pretty much a jack of all trades.
So to my question.
I want to begin making my own android ROMS, now im going to be honest i've only ever made one apk file and that was a tiny little drawing app with very few features. I know how to mod a few things within android and IOS (I know more of IOS i've been an active jailbreaker, themer and modder for a few years).
I understand i'd have to start with very basic things such as small apps and theming, so if anybody has any pointers that would be great. Hell maybe even a set of tutorials or something (google'd some things with no luck)
I have a concept I have created named it CUBE, it's basically a very minimalistic ROM and i mean very minimalistic... you would have your phone, camera, texts and browser and id try to keep pretty much everything else out, you would still be able to access play store and do everything android can usually do but only those basics are installed, i've sketched up most ideas, how everything would be layed out and such, colour schemes pretty much everything. I have an image of the logo and homescreen concept drawn up and it looks very nice to me (some little tweaks need here and there)

tl;dr
I want to make my own ROMS, I have no experience in making them.
I know i need to start simple.
Need help.
