Galaxy Note 2 feautures on Original Note?possible? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hey guys do you think it would be possible to have the galaxy note 2 feautures in our original note?
Totally different question,Also do you recommend upgrading to note 2?.....

Many of us are upgrading to the note 2... The new model blows this original version out the window... Remember it has twice the ram and a quad core not dual.. So even though in time there will be note 2 roms poping up..It still won't be as fast as a 2gb ram mutitasking....The beefed up ram helps with opening and closing apps extremely fast..
Its kinda a personal decision as to your funds and what not...

best choice kamycrs...do it now while the note 1 still holds value..So sell it on CL for 300 bucks that will pay for your upgrade...then will be hanging in the note 2 threads

For people like be who pay retail for devices I'll be keeping mine for a while unless I find a good deal.
Straight talk being half the price of att pays for me to buy new phones.

Should I wait or should I buy the Galaxy Note LTE? HELP!

Hey guys. I've been wondering for the past 2 months on what phone(carrier) to get. My contract with T-Mobile is ending and I definitely want to switch to either AT&T or Verizon, (sprint originally but just because of the epic 4g touch) . My contract ends beginning of April and I am wondering what should I do. Should I wait and see what May will bring smartphone-wise or should I just buy the Note on AT&T ? What somewhat stops me from getting the note without any consideration is that it is not the Exynos processor (i know that people will say it does matter, but it does) and this will be my device for the next 2 years. So far I've played with the Galaxy Note and I like the big screen but it seems that it is not as snappy as the Epic 4g touch for instance. I may be wrong but please give me an advise. I am spending numerous hours looking at reviews and going back and fort to at&t's stores lol, trying to decide. What should I do? Do we think there will be something coming to the US in May, early June?
If I were in your shoes I'd just wait for the HTC One X.
It beats the Note in every way except the S-Pen. (which personally I rarely use)
---------- Post added at 07:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:37 PM ----------
Or if you don't mind waiting longer... the Galaxy S3.
I had Verizon. just recently and t-mobile..galaxy nexus on verizon and galaxy s2 on tmobile....this note rooted with running scripts makes this phone a beast......the screen size and resolution is amazing .....the htc one is limited...no sd card?.and others ...so what its a tiny bit faster....scripts and overclocking this device is more then enough processer speed to mutitask....and gaming is unreal on this screen size...ill never get another smaller device....just my opinion

the lack of sd slot and the battery issue are really turning me off of the HTC One X...that and the rumored delays...oh and the fact that it is only a slightly improved version of the p processor in the Note.

True about the SD card / battery.
But the S4 SoC is much better than the S3

I stand corrected...I thought there was a 8690 that they put in it...not the 8960
my bad,
I would still be lost without more storage and the risk of running out of juice

so with a little faster processor and a smaller screen.. be as fun as the note?...lol...this resolution and screen size makes the note what it is.....gaming....internet..etc is much better with a screen size of this device.....I wish they did have that processor in this device...but if your smart with tools...you'll never notice a difference in speed per device

But other things are important too.
Camera Performance - The Note lags BAD when taking photos
Screen - It's not that the Note's screen is too BIG, I just don't like the screen ratio. It messes up some of the apps and puts other apps (like Google Music) into tablet mode. Smaller screen will also have higher pixel density. Read everyone's first impressions of the screen.
Krait - From what we've seen so far... it beats the Tegra 3 in almost every single benchmark, and has twice the performance as the S3 in some other benchmarks
also the One X will probably be more widely adopted here for devs on XDA so I'm optimistic about what some devs will come up with.
But for me personally. I will wait until I see an official spec sheet / announcement for the Galaxy S3 before I buy anything.
Or maybe wait and see if or when Sprint or Verizon gets the Galaxy Journal with possibly a different and better processor that would have LTE support. Rumor has it that Samsung will have their new Exynos processors compatible with LTE so they don't have to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon processors in the future.

I was in the same boat when i purchased my Galaxy AT&T Note about 2 weeks ago. I said F-it & went with the At&t over the International being my area is appose to get LTE come June. But im finding that HSPA+ works fine for me, plus i don't have a unlimited data plan.
That said i think i am stuck currently being i already exchanged my White Note for a Black one a few days back. "GF talked me into the White one" & i think you can only exchange once is this correct? DAMN HER! Lol kidding, white was nice but the black is more sleek and business like.
I paid full price of $650 for mine. I have two upgrades due in May. My GF is using one and i was gonna save the other for the Galaxy S3 or perhaps the HTC one X. Wasn't really sure.
Basically i am sorta wishing i went with the International version of the Note. But i mean i still love the At&t version.

Wow GS3 preorder for $800. And I see the "LTE 700" info, which I assume means that it should run fine on at&t LTE.
On the topic, if you're willing to continue to stay off-contract, I would say that it's best to wait for an ICS Note to come (hopefully soon)...or wait like another 2-3 months, and numerous new phones should be released.

its all rumor...they have had that up for a while now..actually may have been another site I had seen that on.
If you look around there are reports that the model number they used will most likely be a Galaxy SII plus...which matches info I have received from a friend at Samsung...
Thanks for all the replies. It seems too good to be true to see the Galaxy S3 out for preorders. Furthermore, the image used on their website is one that has been migrating from forum to forum. Some say that even though this may be real, it won`t be here until next year... how about now?? Galaxy Note or Htc One X ?
The HTC one X looks really interesting, specs and all. That might be a good one to go with. That is unless you have held a Galaxy Note in your hand for more than a few days, the HTC will prob feel tiny lol.
I did not need a few days.. within the 20 minutes of playing with it, I love the huge screen but considering that people are having speed issues and having to resolve to rooting flashing roms etc to make it faster, dunno.
I really wanted to hold out for the HTC as well. But my A9192 crapped out, so I had to get something.
In stock form I didn't notice any lag on the Note with TW. I haven't rooted yet (which is a record for me with Android phones). It's normally done the night after I buy it.
I installed ADWex, tweaked a bit, uninstalled as much AT&T **** as I could. I'm pretty happy with it. My first Samsung smartphone. The screen on it is amazing. People want to complain about it some, but it seems amazing, and as we're on XDA, most of the noobs you might hand it off to in the real world will also be amazed by the size/clarity/colors.
I was pretty hesitant the first day or two because I was used to ICS, overclocking, and unlimited options on my last phone.
The screen, size, build quality, and speed have been perfect though. I think it would lag if you had tons of widgets and bull**** running, but if you are smart, it should be a great phone. I don't think I could go back to a smaller one at this point.
Obviously every phone is faster with modified kernels, overclocking, and fresh roms, but I was ready to be disappointed with this phone, and somehow I was not. I also love that I can buy extra batteries and throw in my MicroSD from my last phone.
Oh yeah, the S-pen...I thought it was a bit gimmicky, and it is...but at the same time, I use it all the ****ing time to just draw stupid pictures or annotate screenshots.
TL;DR - Great phone. Only major drawback is Gingerbread. If you can live without ICS for a bit and it will fit in your pockets, get it. There will be a better phone out no matter what you get. The form factor on this one made it unique enough to take the gamble.
I would recommend buying the International Note from Expansys and use a plan for Straight Talk or Red Pocket Mobile instead of buying the inferior AT&T-version and lock yourself into a 24 months outrageous priced contract.
A calculation is coming here:
$299 for the AT&T Note plus at least $100 x 24 for the contract (including taxes and fees).
Total price: $2699.
If we take unlimited talk, unlimited text and the data plan with AT&T the price will be like this:
$299 for the Note plus $140-150 per month for the contract (including taxes/fees).
Total price: $3659
With Straight Talk, you get unlimited talk, text and approximately 2 GB of data for $45 per month or slightly cheaper with the 3 months card.
The calculation is therefore like this:
$680 for the International Note. $45 per month for the service.
Total for 24 months: $1660
Total saving compared to the unlimited AT&T plan: $1999.
I don't see any reason to pay $2000 more for the AT&T Note over the 24 months period.
For those $2000, it is possible to buy both the Note 2, 3 and even 4. I.e three new devices instead or just save the money.

[Q] Considering the SGS2

Hey guys, I've got kinda a two parter question..
The first is this, do you think the SGS2 will be able to keep up as a leading Android phone or at least pretty high end for another year or two? Also will development keep up for much longer? Or would it be more logical to wait for the SGS3 and go for that?
And, assuming it would stay active and strong, do you think the price would drop once the SGS3 comes out dramatically? As in is it worth getting it now or should I wait for the SGS3 one way or the other.
Thanks in advanced!
The hardware of the sgs II is pretty nice. As you can see, the xperia s and the new htc smartphones (one s, one x) got sgs II-hardware.
This means our lovely galaxy will stay at top of all for at least a few more month. Then the sgs III will be released.
Thanks to apples 4s, htc one s x and the xperia s the sgs II is nowhere near being outdated.
One more thing, 4.3 inch is the limit for me! I dont see why people would buy the sgs III with a 4.65 inch display.
thats true haha, the size is the thing that worries me... however the screen covers more of the front so im thinking the actual SIZE of the phone won`t be that much greater
I can get a rooted with ICS installed SGS2 for 400$... is that good you think?
the only thing pulling me to SGS3 is how much longer itll probably last than the SGS2 just being released over a year later... but price worries me of it too since people are guessing over 800 and thats too much for me :S
Also would be nice for continued dev support
Try and get it cheaper without root and ICS as you can apply both of those yourself with all the guides available here. I'm not sure what the selling price is for the gs2 is in $, so the price you quoted could be cheap as it is lol

Yeah no they're all around 400$ give or take 25, all i would need is to make sure that the screen has NO scratches and that it works XD the root and ICS was just a bonus haha
I'm guessing it's probably best to get a phone that hasn't been flashed or altered. At least that way you'll know the original firmwares etc of the phone.

That's a good point... less risky. My main thing is, is the SGS3 gonna be worth the 2 month+ wait and the extra like 300$+... waiting isn't a big deal, 300-400 dollars is XD
Pretty much in the same boat as you. My contract with Sprint will be up this Summer, so looking into a GS3 (or other quadcore handset). I've heard the GS3 may launch next month in England, though not sure about the rest of the world. I've read conflicting reports on whether there will be a unified global launch, so it's possible N. America will have to wait until Fall again.
Another thing to note is that while Tegra 3 is benchmarking better than all the dual core ARM processors out there, it performs really poorly compared to Apple's A5X chip. Given this, it's probably not a stretch that SG3's Exynos 3 will outperform it as well. There's also Snapdragon, though that isn't expected until Q4.

That's probably because the iPad 3 has a quad core gpu. Plus you have to remember Tegra 3 was already late to the game. It was supposed to be out last summer but as usual Nvidia can never deliver anything on time!
Also no apps seem to be using more than 2 cores. Most are only utilizing 1.
The quad Exynos will only come close to the A5X gpu performance if they use at least a dual core Mali 600.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
One of the main reasons im considering the SGS3 is cause i think that android and apps are starting to become optimized for more than single core.
For me though the main selling point isn't actually the GPU, but rather the huge battery (anything over 2k is awesome!) and the tons of RAM, nice internal storage, SD card, and if this phone is any indication, probably good dev support I would get the HTC One S if it werent for the no SD card and pretty small battery :/

Really? That's unfortunate. I thought ICS automated much of this, though I suppose it makes sense that each developer would need to add support from their end.

I know. The Nexus Prime has that issue as well. I'd imagine flashing ROMs would be unnecessarily complicated, since they have one giant partition.

I'm not so sure about that, i think it wouldn't cause too much trouble, but the thing is with 16 gb of internal memory, after ICS and sense and bloat, that'll leave probably less than 10gb of actually usable memory which is too little for me in the long run :/

I believe it is up to the developer. Same as hardware acceleration.
Hell even Adobe Photoshop only used a single core all the way up to CS5.

I would just go for the S2 as soon as the retailers in your area starts to sell them out cheap (to get rid of stock before launch of S3).
It's a great phone, still getting updates from Samsung - resulting in great mods from the XDA community.
And when the time comes that you'll be needing more power, just overclock it - extending the lifetime of it (for your use, NOT the phone itself).

Yeah that was definitely one of things I was considering, IF the price drops by saaay.. 30%? Bring it from 600 to 400 new, I think I could go for that. But if the SGS3 is less than 800 its definitely in my radar

This sounds very much like the deliberation I have when buying any new piece of tech, such as a laptop, always looking for the next new thing and wondering whether to wait or take the plunge now.
I would vote for an SGS2. It's a super phone with a massive modding community behind it to at least push it for another 1.5 to 2 years. I've had mine since July of last year and I'm only now seeing other phones catching up so you certainly would be behind the times with an SGS2.

To buy or not to buy?

For the last few months I was all hyped up for the S3, followed all the news/announcements etc. I justified the few weaknesses the phone has by the fact that there is nothing else better on the market and probably won’t be for a while.
I was ready to buy as soon as it landed in the UK. Now I can’t get the colour I want (blue) probably for weeks. And Samsung have gone and announced other markets will be getting 2GB of RAM.
Now I’m not so sure about entering into a 2yr contract for a phone that has ALREADY been superceded. Yes, I know the S4 chip isn’t as good as the Exynos, but realistically am I going to notice a slightly better chip, or twice as much RAM on a day to day basis. We all know the answer to that, it’s the same for any computer.
Other manufacturers are going to want to best the SGS3, and even Samsung itself will likely announce a Note with a better chip and 2GB of RAM later this year.
So why should I buy the S3 now, with only 1GB, which many smartphones have had for over a year? Is this phone realistically going to last me the duration of a 2yr contract? My last phone has only just scraped it’s way to 18mths, and I’ve wanted to replace for a while now since the performance is no longer acceptable – despite all the ROM flashing and tweaks to squeeze every last drop out of it.
Please discuss. Convince me.
well I doubt apple will have anything interesting either but if you can, get the note

Yes, this is true. I don't want to wait any longer, but at the moment I'm being forced to, and every day I do wait more and more voices in my head say "Just wait for the Note 2, or just wait for the Nexus"!!
As for selling the GS3 later, well it will probably only be worth about £250 in 6mths time, so I'll have to find another £250 from somewhere to buy a new phone...
then when you get to the time when the new Note comes out the voices in your head might say wait a bit longer when the new phones a few months after might come out..and that is how the cycle goes on..get the phone mate.. it is good...development will be huge and well it will be worth spending the money on
Yeah, but the Note and the Nexus will be perfect! SAMOLED Plus screens and 2GB RAM is all I want on top of the SGS3....
F*ck it, you're probably right. And if I had the phone in my hand now then I probably wouldn't care as much as I do,cos I'd just be enjoying it.

Any reason to skip the Note II besides the money?

My biggest issue is the money , the only thing that the note 2 has is the newer OS and multitasking and slightly larger screen size , Im assuming you can root, and or custom recovery /boot loader / rom with the Note , having said that , is it a better deal ,? I can see getting a refurb of this model ,49 bucks as opposed to a new note 2 at $250
Little features here and there. Slightly better screen, faster but nothing rooting can't cure. Im in no rush to upgrade

if your a first time buyer... for you I would say the Note 2...
Money is the issue as you said, and myself personally cannot stand the switch to 16:9 from 16:10..
BUT, for almost everything else, its worth it... going from the crappy S3 that powers the i717 (the US branded versions at least) to Samsungs own chip... an extra GB of ram and so much more in the software department (the AT&T GNotes ICS is a plagued beast... runs like trash comparatively)...
The Notification LED (why the hell they didnt have it in the OG note is beyond me), the bigger SPen...
TBQH, the ONLY thing I dont like about the Galaxy Note 2 is the change in aspect ratio and loss of PPI due to it... thats it! Nothing else can I dislike about it...
A reason to skip it besides money? The Note 2 being more narrow and a lower resolution are the only things I can think of (like Hammerfest mentioned). Since you don't even have the Note 1, you should be fine.

For my two pennies. I say passing up on a Note i717 , would be a mistake, let alone avoiding Note 2. Lots of GREAT offerings can be found in this neck of the woods.
No one has suggested he pass up on both... It's an "either or" question. So the only reason to get the Note 1 over the 2 would be because of the size (narrow), aspect ratio (decreased), pixel density (decreased), and price... but the OP said not to consider the price difference.
The reason I say this ,is rom development and kernal development , I mean I couldnt tell ya when the last time I had something stock was, ,stock lasts about a week on phones and tablets for me, my current phone is Samsung Focus 1st gen Win7 phone with the 7.8 rom on it , its a nice phone ,however the screen size is too small and yes Ive considered the Nokia 920 , but rom development is really slow ,Microsoft wont release the api's so its a difficult learning curve , my Table is an Acer a500 its running ICS right now and I continually change out roms , the price point is an issue , I can get the nokia 920 as an upgrade for like 50 bucks and the OG Note for 150 , I just think in terms of how far can I stretch the technology (my phone and tab are examples) , sure the latest and greatest are fun if I had the money but I dont , the screen is what gives it away for me , just seeing it is enough to make me a believer (plus I have big hands )!
I think if you are concerned about ROMs then you may be better off with the Note 1. It seems to me that the Note 2 is heavy on Touchwiz (Spen and multitasking), and you could potentially blow all that out of the water with a ROM. Plus, the Note 2 is divided into so many different variants that development may take a hit depending on the popularity of the one you end up buying.
BlackZenith states my point of view much better than I. i717, large and in charge, for some time now. Proven reliability, tonnes of groundwork laid thanks to the hard work of all the DEVS around here, some super sweet ROM/mod offerings. No signs of slowing, perhaps just at it's beginning. Very grateful to be enjoying it all.
I have a note l and from my look at the note ll if you can afford I would go with the ll. I like the larger pen a lot and with what I see as close to the end in development for note1 the whiz people will switch there talents over to the ll.

I have the OG note and love it but im passing on the note 2 (even though I have an upgrade) because next year is the year of the 1080p screens on phones...and the note 3 should be very attractive if thats the case... Ill just save my upgrade and get the already subsidized nexus 4 from Google to keep the cravings for new phones down lol

At first, I was going to flip my OG Note for the Note 2. But, I decided to wait this one out. My OG Note is running FJ's AOSPxXx-ICS ROM right now and it feels good. I can only imagine how a custom CM based JB ROM will feel like (waiting for the source to be released, before I flash a JB ROM now) With that around the corner, that's why I'd rather wait to see what the Note 3 or the S4 for that matter (talks of a 5" screen on it...which I could do). Technology changes so quickly...devices are old before the ink dries on the manifest.
So if I were you, go with Note 2...
If money weren't an object, I would go with the Note II. The battery life alone seals the deal for me. Add in the processor and improved S-Pen apps and its the obvious choice to me.
Now, I have the Note I and am very happy. Development is strong and we have a new base for TW ROMs coming from the gt7005. JB will come soon enough and well have most of the features of the Note II.

i777 vs. i727 Which is better

Just thinking about getting an i777 but I was just wondering which is better in your opinion. The i777 or the skyrocket i727 and why?
The i777 is almost two years old. Why in the world would you update to such an old device when the new phones coming out are ....well new? Hehe

Why are you even asking this? This is an i777 forum you know what the answer will be . Plus as the others said both the devices are old you can get something better for the same price range

vs posts are always shut down. Just a big ***** session.
Maybe the OP is buying a used phone now that they both should be in the $200 max price point?
If I was on ATT I'd get the i727 now that LTE has been rolled out to more cities. If you're on a grandfathered unlimited data plan you'll be throttled at 5GB instead of 3GB as well.
Since I'm using a MVNO and I'm not interested in LTE, I prefer the i777 for (I think) better developer support.
Doesn't matter now. It's irrelevant. They're both old and are being replaced with better versions. Anyone who buys one new now should really be asking themselves why they're buying a two year old phone.

No. It IS relevant if he's buying USED. On the other hand, it would be utter stupidity to use an upgrade for either when the SGS3 and Note 2 are currently available.
i777 is better than i727 because 777 is a higher number than 727.

Please don't buy a two year old device. Save your pennies and spring for a Nexus 4.
Guys I'm sure if he were on a contract and had an upgrade he wouldn't be here.
The i777 is better. Better cpu, better gpu! Same as i9100 so more Rom support. Plain and simple!
The i727 has bigger screen.
If you're getting it for under 200 like I did (I spent $60 with cracked lcd and $125 for new lcd) then go ahead. but if you can afford to save up and get a new device that would be even better.
I might be upgrading to a nexus 4 or something soon.
All my phones are unlocked.. I don't do contracts

When you can buy a brand new nexus 4 for 299.... Don't waste 200 on a 2 year old phone. Just my 2 cents.

Depends on his needs. I came back to this i777 because I couldn't stand my Galaxy Nexus' lack of microsd slot anymore.
I'm personally steering clear of the Nexus 4 for the same reason in addition to the non-swappable battery.
Depending on your needs, i disagree with that it being irrelevant or anything else. The $299 Nexus 4 is only 8gb right, with no expansion? Wasn't enough for me. 6 months ago I got a GREAT quality i777 off eBay for $220 with 16GB storage, micro SD slot, replaceable battery. Literally had NO scratches on the screen and one tiny one on the side that really wasnt noticable without looking closely. It is working out great for me with AOKP JB 4.2.2 & I saved 130 over the 16gb Nexus 4. I777 should be even cheaper now.

I used to think 8 gigs of internal storage wouldn't be enough either. Then I realized something. I usually only put like 3 gigs max music on my phone because....well.... 3 gigs is a ton of music and more than I could realistically listen to in a given week. And i usually once a week backup any pictures I take to my external hard drive and delete them from my phone. (I assume other people do this too, if not, and something happens to your phone, all those memories are lost) so really 8 gigs is more than enough space for me to comfortably use. Only reason I can think it would be an issue is if someone needs to carry around their entire music collection with them, or if they never remove pictures and videos from their device.
Honestly, the i777 is an amazing phone. If you can get one for real cheap and you want to save your upgrade, I would definitely get the i777. There is really nothing out there that this phone can't run/do, except for maybe some novelty stuff. The only reason you could really warrant getting anything else is if you want a bigger screen and 4g, or if you already have an i777 and you just want to play with something new. And I can't compare to anything else, but coming from LG, this is probably one of the least complicated and simplest phones to flash stuff with.
If you're already planning on spending near $200 for a used 2 year old phone, might as well just get a brand new S4 which is going to be around $250 with a 2 year contract. Unless of course you want to be stuck in 2011 or something.

For a two year old phone the i777 is still relevant. Solid CPU, SD Expansion, and smooth as butter with SHOstock3! I got mine when it first released and it still looks and operates great.
