Hi, I have been using my shift for a week or so now and I have found the 1GB memory to be an issue with lagging screen switches in W7.
One solution I found was to install this free utility called "Minimem" (found here: http://minimem.kerkia.net/Download.aspx)
So far it is working great and my windows (in W7 RC) switch faster, and I can have a few program running.
It's easy to figure out, just install it, started up all your programs, open 'Minimem', then choose all the programs you want managed, choose how often you want to run Minimem in seconds, and what Memory threshold should be exceeded before it takes any action on those programs.
Mid-day update:
I forgot about this, but to stop unnecessary things from opening in Win7, there is another great free utility here: (http://www.anvir.com/task-manager-windows-startup.htm) called "AnVir Task Manager Free"
It lets you choose what to start on start up, plus lets you do a delayed startup of select programs (like Messenger, or other non essential programs on startup)
And I've confirmed that the beta version of Stardock Fences (http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/) works well (very handy for this screen)
I hope this helps those wanting to speed up W7 even more!
If anyone else knows of other great free utilities I would love to know!
thanks for all your great posts, I like the Fences very much.
As for the RAM optimization, I'm using MemTurbo (not a Freeware) and it's working great. I'll try later your suggested app.
Maximize Your Shift
I'm a business user of the Shift, that's why I bought it. I needed mobility, practicality, and ultimate portability. Here are some things I have been researching on how to make the most of your shift.
While the developers are working hard at expanding the features of WiFi/SD/BT, here are some cool tricks for your Shift in the meantime:
First, signup for a Windows Live account, if you don't already have one.
SYNC
Get "Windows Live Sync" - It's AWESOME!
Why Email when you can Sync Live?
I hate email, its useless, and outdated. I like live communications.
(I'm always on wifi, and my 3G is there when needed, so this tool is great for file syncing. I have my PC at work that hibernates, and mini PC that acts as a file server that is on 24/7. Then I have my shift. I simply set up the folders I want to sync and this beauty does it all perfectly in the background. ...If you are on a pay as you go data plan, I would suggest setting specific folders in SYNC to "Manual vs. Automatic" to save money or creating a side folder to move things between) ...what really makes this great, is that you can sync files between anyone else with a Windows Live account. (I'm a mobile professional, and this is great for my team to send me docs. They simply save it to a folder, and seconds later I get it!
ONLINE STORAGE
Windows SKY Drive (25 GB of online storage!)
Anywhere access-Get to your online files from home, work, or on the road.
Easy to use-Password-protected-Keep your files to yourself, or share them with anyone you want.
Drag files into your online folders, just like on your PC.
(Who knows, maybe one day it might even be possible for developers to post and manage their ROM updates this way!)
Mid-Day Update:
Okay, this is just Really, really cool!
Gladinet.com lets you link your PC up to all those great online storages you have kicking around! Windows SkyDrive - Google Picasa - Google Docs - Amazon Storage, and a few others, plus some custom settings for obscure locations.
This means you can use your online drive as a drive letter on your Shift!
More to Come!

Awesome post! I went off and signed up for skydrive and adrive all because of gladinet. Truly a great find!

Well don´t know if its a "new" utility for you guys, but for me it is and works quite fine...
It´s Virtual Clone Drive, a freeware that can be downloaded from http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html
It helped me install WIn 7 on my Shift and for now, has eliminated my need for an external CD/DVD drive

I can't get it work, can you help me?
Edit: now it works, it was firewalled.
Is it normal that when i turn "on" modem, MyMobile disconnects?
Is there a software similar to the Nokia PC Suite that provides options to control / access the phone from the PC? I am used to the Sony Ericsson PC Suite with my earlier P1i and use the mRouter for accessing the internet. What i get from the HTC Sync is options to sync the data alone. Something similar to the PC Suite will be better!
Thanks

You could look at this and this. Haven't tried any of those, but hey, you could give it a shot
Just for info the second suggestion does not seem to work on Win 7, haven't tried the other yet.
MG
Have you tried running it in compatabilitymode for vista/xp?
any ideas for sync / rom update in non-microsoft OS? what about ubuntu?
PC Suite
the first option (htc phone portal) works fine for my Hero. the phone is added with a web server. from the PC browser I am able to connect to the phone and access all my contacts, SD Card contents and to an extend configure the settings as well.
Thanks
hi
I found this guide on the internet. I might by useful for your....
In this guide, we show you how to tweak your registry so that your computer recognizes the HTC 7 Mozart as a removable USB drive. You'll only have access to the Music, Pictures and Videos folders, but those are the most important folders anyway when it comes to moving big files.
1. Open Windows Registry Editor by typing regedit in your start menu
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB
3. Perform a search for ZuneDriver
1. The search should yield a result similar to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB\VID_045E&PID_04EC&MI_00\6&27ffd631&0&0000\Device Parameters\WUDF
4. Click up one level to the Device Parameters key
5. Change ShowInShell from 0 to 1
6. Change PortableDeviceNameSpaceExcludeFromShell from 1 to 0
7. Change EnableLegacySupport from 0 to 1
8. Change EnableDefaultAutoPlaySupport
That's it! You can now plug your HTC 7 Mozart into your Windows PC using the supplied USB cable and it will be recognized as a USB drive.
regards.
Thanks, would it be possible to use this method to locate the ringtone folder.
Hi, didn't work on my Windows 7 (32 bit) ?
what value should I change in "8. Change EnableDefaultAutoPlaySupport
"?
thanks.
To nothing don´t change
Close zune and then conect usb cable and will apear 2 icons of multimedia, inside is harddrive but only acess 4 folders and ringtone its not one of them but its a good thing
Has anyone else got this to work?
Ive changed my registery settings and when i connect the device i can see 2 (not sure why its there twice!) Mozart 7 devices with the label 'portable media player' underneath them.
However when i click into them it shows nothing? Any ideas?
Thanks!
Thanks ! it works perfect.. on my windows 7 32 bit OS.
it didn't work for me. will try some other time though.
it works.................confirmed
where exactly we'll see two icons? in windows explorer alongwith c and d drives? may be i m missing something.
Can see as USB but nothing to do with, that means nothing
For those who can see 2 empty instances of HTC 7 Mozart, I have copied the below quote from this thread in the HTC Surround section:

If you make those changes only, your Windows Phone will appear twice under portable devices. There are a couple more changes you should make to the registry - one of them is to fix this (don't remember which one):
Under Device Parameters, you should see two sub-folders: one is called WUDF and the other is ZuneDriver.
1) Under WUDF, you will find a key called Exclusive - change the value of this key from 1 to 0.
2) Under ZuneDriver, you will find a key called UseWpdPrivateInterface - change the value of this key from 1 to 0, as well.
Now you should see only one occurrence of your Windows Phone in the Portable Devices section.
Don't forget to close the Zune software if it opens when you connect your phone.

I can confirm this works and if the OP could edit these into his post I would be most grateful.

usb driver htc mozart
hi all,
could you please help me with usb driver for htc mozart, i see everything till USB and after that i cannot see neither Zunedriver or WUDF, is there any other ways to find out?
thank you
In order to see all the files, your phone has to be on welcome screen, when you open photos or music and videos, that's the end of it, you have to reconnect again.

tq its work
Excellent hack! Works great...
But, you must have followed BOTH sets of instructions by slyk2203 and meegulthwarp. Windows exployer also only showed the media folders when I had the Zune app open on the device (not on the PC) and also only when there were existing files in each part. I.e... load a music track, picture and a video file with zune beforehand.
Now interestingly I have noticed that Zune downsamples any video clips that you drag onto the device. Even perfectly suitable .wmv files are re-encoded to a lower resolution. Now though, thanks to this hack, I can copy high res .wmv files onto my device. What's more they play back beautifully!

Remote desktop is a program or an operating system feature that allows the user to connect to a computer in another location using a computer, see that computer's desktop and interact with it as if it were local.
with RDM+ you connect from your mobile to the desktop, you dont need another computer

but the same can be achieved with other free apps (the WM 6.5 native "Remote Desktop Mobile" or "zaDesktop"), so apparently the RDP+ must have some additional features? I'm just curious which

Forget That, Try Tonido
You can find FREE software called Tonido. I installed it yesterday and it's great, oh, and did I mention it's free?

I miss this phone
I just finished making the first version of this app...[2012/9/5]
PPCC - Stands for [Pocket PC - PC - Controller]...
You now can use your phone as a PC controller..
Here's the review:
Requirements:
a WVGA resolution Windows Mobile(Pocket PC)
.NET CF 3.5
NETCFv35.Messages.EN.cab
GSensor(I can make another version without GSensor..If you can't run this and you need a non-GSensor version, give a feedback here..)
.NET 3.5 on your PC
Features:
Keyboard..
Numeric Keypad
Need For Speed
Simple Gamepad(Call of Duty)
PowerPoint
You can create your own controller with CEditor on PC..
I might release CEditor as soon as my Youtube channel gets more than 100 subscribers..My Youtube Channel
What's not that good:
After running a controller, you can only exit by clicking home button and then use task manager to close it.
Somehow it won't work as good as you expect.. my suggestion is.. use it as a PowerPoint controller or a numeric keypad..That's enough...
Why I made this app ... now??
I think this idea is great.. But due to my poor ability I can only make a Windows Mobile app now.. I hope someone can port this app to other phone devices like Android, iPhone, Windows Phone.. If you can and you're willing to do this.. PM me.. Maybe we can set up a team together...
How to use it?
Install PPCCv1.0.CAB on your phone
Connect the phone to your PC via Bluetooth or USB with Windows Mobile Device Center/Activesync
Open the "PPCC - PCserver.exe" on your PC
Open the PPCC on your phone
Select the controller you want..Done...
And..
I found that something called DroidMote on Android does almost the same thing.. But I knew it from the XDA Portal(on 2012/8/30) a few days after I started making this app.. And I haven't tried out DroidMote or even watched the video demo of it. I keep making this app work in my way. I swear I didn't ever steal zulu99's idea!! Including the CEditor.. I was so suprised that zulu99 had made "Touch Profile Creator" and it looks exactly like what I thought that CEditor was...I'm sad...

Really don't want to bother you: I'm using frreware TeamViewer to remotely control my desktop. Available for Android and WinMo. What does your work it better?
