Hey guys, I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, and I promise I've used the search but can't find the answer I'm looking for. I just want to know, what is the cheapest way to get HDMI out of the S3? My Xoom has a micro hdmi to HDMI cable that I can use, and I have a USB OTG cable that works with the S3, but to get HDMI out what cables and or adapters do I need? Preferably not overpriced stuff from Samsung. I'm sure there are people in my situation who have managed to find the right combination of cables to get it to work.
Get it from eBay. You'll get it in something 5-7 $

Hi, will the cable work with this phone or do I need some special cable with the MHL? Can somebody who got the phone already test it.
Thanks
Hello mate
I think it would of been appropriate if u posted this in the accessories section.
anyway to answer your question
i think the MHL cable is not available yet, Accoring to clove.co.uk, its available in june.
http://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-i9100-mhl-adaptor
I think the MHL is the standard, and u just need a cable that has micro usb on one side and hdmi on the other.
although the ones at clove has a block on it, i think this allows charging from a plug socket with a standard micro usb cable, becasue i think there are no MHL tvs available at the moment.
Some explanation that people may find handy in relation to MHL.
Hi guys I purchased this mhl cable
http://www.ebay.it/itm/160781902835...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648#ht_3437wt_1165
Dosen't work
the tv did not see anything
I plugged the charger on adapter HDMI, but the phone ONLY charging...
Why?
Designed for GS2, thus will not work with GS3.
Pretty obvious given the listing title.

For some reason or another, the S3 has a different cable requirement to the S2 and pretty much all previous phones. This means that cables designed for other phones (like the one you bought, which was designed for the S2) won't work.
There will be third party MHL cables for the S3 out soon enough I'm sure.
I read in some review that it uses MHL ver 2.0
I think that's why it doesn't work with older SGS2 cables.

It says in the title of that advert that that cable is for the S2. NOT the S3.
Okay. So for starters, I don't have the GS3. I have the HTC One. I originally had the Epic 4G Touch. I was doing some reading and stuff. I plan on letting my friend borrow my MHL Adapter but he has the GS3.
The reading I found was something dealing with the GS3 having an 11-pin connection or something as opposed to a 5-pin connection. Let me explain what I've witnessed with my PNY MHL adapter.
On my E4GT, I need my wall adapter to be plugged into the MHL adapter. If it unplugged, the adapter would turn off. So I needed an external power source.
Now on my HTC One, I can just connect it to my MHL adapter and it turns on. I don't know how. Using an external power source allows it to stop from flickering on the screen. So of course I do that.
My question is will my MHL adapter be capable to work with my friend's GS3? The reason I'm asking is because he lives about 20 miles away. LoL!! I don't visit just to say hello. =.P
I kinda feel this question is kinda useless, but maybe I've added insight with my HTC One working fine with an adapter I had bought for my E4GT. However, I did buy this when the GS3 was already out. So it could have potentially already been capable. Hmm...
Unless you bought a lead specifically for the SG3 then no, it won't work.
If it's 5 pin, you need an 11pin adapter. About 3$ on ebay.

How do you know it's a 5-pin?
And what about the HTC One? It can turn on the Adapter without a power supply. Are you saying the HTC One is a 5-pin?
I'm still going to try. I don't want to buy another one if this one will work. =.P
The things I have been reading was MHL adapters won't work the the GS3 unless you get the 11-pin adapters or have the adapter connected to a Wall Adapter. I may have missed understood that because people online kept using the word "adapter" which is the MHL adapter and AC adapter. I could have gotten confused somewhere.
Are there any kind of laptop docks available that would work with it, such as the Motorola's extinct Atrix lapdock, the fabled clambook or something similar on the market?
Cheers
Not that I know of, but if you were looking for a home solution (as opposed to travel), I've really enjoyed a Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse, with an MHL cable into a 23" screen.
Still working on what's the best software to make the most of this (the new Open Office for Android will come in use). And sorry I know I'm not really answering your question.
I'm confident that with the right set of connectors and adapters you could make an atrix lapdock work. It would be kludgy but it would work.

I was just asking a friend about the Atrix Lapdock. I have one sitting here and a friend suggested something that may work.
Im not saying this WILL work since i dont know if the keyboard and trackpad are powered via the usb connecter or are powered by the internal battery, but if its the latter, you might be able to get a female micro usb to usb female adapter and connect a Bluetooth dongle to it and then use an MHL thing to connect to the micro hdmi connector.
I don't currently have any easy means to try this myself and i don't have the patience to find the adapter(s?) to give it a shot. Running on fairly limited funds right now.
I cant find any info on this.
I tried the Samsung MHL adaptor that a friend used with his SIII, no luck
After googling forever. I cant find if I need a 5pin adapter or just a normal microusb-hdmi, or a microhdmi to hdmi.
Any help would be great.

I don't think the Torque has an HDMI port on it (at least as far as I know, I'm just going off of what PhoneArena said), so you would probably need a MicroUSB to HDMI if anything.
