So I am currently on the official ICS 4,0,3 rom and I am looking for a JB rom, which will keep my data such as messages, numbers and so on. Any recommendations?

there is no jb rom which will keep your data without first backing it up.
When you upgrade to JB roms the file structure of the rom changes, that why they recommend you do a full wipe before using as old appsmay cause FC because some of the data inside may not be compatiable with JB.

You can use an app such as "SMS Backup +" on the Play store to back up your messages and call logs to your Google account. Very useful!
I would also recommend saving your numbers/contacts to your Google account as well. If you're going to be switching ROMs every now and then, it makes the whole process a lot easier.
But yeah, you will always need to wipe when changing your firmware.

Why not just buy titanium backup pro and you can back up all apps and messages with the same app and now you can save them as flashable zips that you can add after you've flashed the rom in cwm

I suggest to wait the official jellybean ROM it will be released soon
Then you can update via odin without losing data

as for as ur conatcts is concerend u can sync them to ur google a/c or have them exported to ur external sd card as .vcf file for later restore.
for sms messages and passwords u can rely upon some third party apps from stores which can do the needfull

As soon as I hit add, I get a list asking to save to phone, or my exchange, or my various gmail accounts...
So it don't look to be removed...
VillainROM 1.4 FWIW but I think stock can do it
Or you could try exporting them in .vcf format to your sdcard via the import/export menu in contacts.
Flash new rom, then import the .vcf back.
Edit: I think Litening with no wipe does that too.

[Q] moving contacts and stuff from sgs1 to sgs2

Hi all, I have a sgs1 but im waiting for my new sgs2 to arrive, I use kies to sync my contacts, calander and memos, when I get my new phone will I be able to plug it into pc and then sync all my stuff to my new phone? Thanks
has anyone done this or if not how did you do yours please?
I haven't done this myself with kies but use Google to back up all my contacts and Titanium BackUp for all the user apps from the market.

I agree with this completely but be carefully restoring system stuff from titanium or any other back up solution across different firmware versions
I also uses sms backup and restore from the market and sms/mms to gmail you cant restore mms messages but at least you don't lose them

Contacts integration

Hi. I'm coming from a stock samsung 2.3.3 rom, I'm all ready to root it and give it a new firmware but will I lose my contacts which are integrated with facebook and all? I backed up a copy of it onto the sd card, but I'm not sure if it keeps the integration.

provided you have synced with your gmail account, you should keep your contacts. you just log in once you boot up after flashing and your contacts will be refreshed
How do I know if I synced it to my gmail account? Does the backup to sd card function keep the integration with facebook?

you could also move them to sd card and if they,re on sd csrd, u won't lose them and you would, they still would be in your nandroid backup and you could take them from there with appextracktor

Before you do anything BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP. Use titanium to backup your apps. To find out if your gmail is syncing your contacts go to settings - accounts and sync. You should clearly see if your gmail is syncing your contacts. When you flash a new rom it will ask you to enter your gmail. This will then sync all your contacts to your phone. When you get clockworkmod installed backup a full image of your phone so you wont lose anything. Goodluck!
Thanks for the help guys! Okay gonna see if its syncing but I'm more worried about the facebook integration because I don't want to repeat the tedious process of merging my contacts painstakingly again!

Ohh another question, erm I can see that my google account is under the list of things syncing, is there somewhere I can check the contacts whether they are saved correctly or not? Thanks guys!

Change ROM's without losing everything?

Sorry to bother everyone, but I've been searching the forums for a while now, and I've used some of the really good ROM's that have been designed, however I recently decided to go back to a Stock ROM.
Yet again, like many people I'm sure, I have become bored of the stock ROM and fancy a change.
I've decided to go for the ICS ROM but reached a dilemma.
I don't want to lose everything such as contacts, messages, etc.
I use titanium backup pro, but even that doesn't save them.
I was wondering if there was a way to do this?
Thanks in advance and sorry for babbling on!

Rom as ICS has not yet been released
KIES backups contacts etc .

Okay that confirms I am confused between ROM and Kernal..I think.
& Oh yeah! I didn't even think of using Kies to backup my contacts!
Thanks!

Rom - custom software build for your phone.
Kernel - base software backbone for your phone.
And in terms of flashing a ROM with data still intact, its possible, but it depends on wether or not the ROM wipes your data. Most likely, it will. Now a kernel is easier. As long as it works with the corresponding ROM, you shouldn't have any trouble.

You can do anything with Titanium Backing up to root. Previously with Odin rooting firmware flash
Move contacts to sim card and also remove it when wiping
Sent from my sgs2 running cm9 using xda app
Also, try these two from the market:
- SMS Backup & Restore
- Call Logs Backup & Restore
Worked great for me.

I store all my contacts on my google account, so everytime I switch roms/handsets, they just sync down.
With sms, you can either backup using an sms backup app, or mybackup pro does it. Neither require root.
Or...what I do is have backup to gmail installed, which auto backs up all my sms and mms to relevant sms and mms folders on my gmail account. That way I have them always, I do also use mybackup pro just so they are also in my messages app.
1. Sync contacts to Skype/Googlemail(google-backup)
2. Sync Messages to Titanium backup/pro
3. Anything Else won't get lost as you can sync things back. like Email and Calendars.
If you keep Notes, copy and paste things to Google Docs, to get them backed up.
Your Apps will get wiped but will install back with your Gmail.
Rest is the application Data, that will be Wiped.. After all you want a new start...
Just backup your apps with Titanium backup and restore after the flash
My contacts are synchronized with gmail and on simcard
Calender is synched with gmail
Thanks a lot guys. This has really helped. I think I'll back my contacts up to G-mail as that's my main concern. Messages being backed up would be helpful, but not necessary.

Thanks a lot. That's really helpful.

why it happen

[ROM][ALL MDPI][24/01/13] MIUI Walkman Style [3.1.18][BOTH BL][VIDEO][MULTI LANG]
im using this rom..it so nice..im liking it..but when i restore a back from titanium backup..like sms/phone storage, the process is okey but when i click to message icon it start to give unexpected stop something like that..so i so dying to know why and any solution to that..
If I'm getting what you said right..
Do not backup those things using titanium backup.
Back up an apk like whatsapp and it restore contacts with it.
Or back up your contacts to google account or to your sd card.
And search for an app to do the same job for sms.
Honestly, I never tried to backup contacts storage nor sms by TB, cause I have better alternative ways.
Good luck
