One of my fave features of Samsung phones was the ability to choose whether to save contacts to phone, google or sim but this has been removed in galaxy sII unfortunately. Can someone pls advise me which custom rom has this feature?

As soon as I hit add, I get a list asking to save to phone, or my exchange, or my various gmail accounts...
So it don't look to be removed...
VillainROM 1.4 FWIW but I think stock can do it
Or you could try exporting them in .vcf format to your sdcard via the import/export menu in contacts.
Flash new rom, then import the .vcf back.
Edit: I think Litening with no wipe does that too.

Funny bit
When you add a new contact to your list you are asked where to save it.

Hello everyone,
I noticed that my Xperia x10 is saving my Telephone contacts on the sd card, but I cant find any option to save the contacts on the sim card.
Any one know how to save contacts on sim card?
Hey,
Try this:
1. Open Phonebook/Contacts App
2. Click menu key
3. Click Backup Contacts
4. Click Sim Card
This should backup your contacts to your sim card.
However, I would recommend using the Google Sync App instead of going through all of the above.
The Sync App will backup your contacts to your google account (if you have one, if not get one). Then if you accidently lose them all due to an update to your X10's software, factory reset, or any other accidental scenario one might experience all you have to do is activate the sync app again and all your contacts will be downloaded to your phone again. Its been an absolute godsend for me as I've been playing about with custom roms the last few weeks.
If you have any bother getting either of these solutions to work, feel free to drop me a PM and I'll do my best to help.
Co.
There is no backup option only import and export..no export to sim option either

It's there on mine. Maybe something wrong with sim card, or blocked from saving to it.?

When I first got this phone, I was worried about this as well. Now I just let it sync contacts to my gmail account. Safest backup imo
Thank you guys, helped me a lot

I have lost a few but not all of my contacts because they were only backed up with backup assistant. Is there anyway Possible of installing Baskup Assistant on jt's Vanilla Gingerbread to get them back?

As much as it sucks, I think you'll have to flash back to a rom that is compatible with backup assistant...get your contacts back and export them to sd card..then go back to vanilla gb and import the lost contacts

Thank you. I might do that or just go on Verizon Website and search my contacts on there to get the ones im missing....It's probably 15 at the most. but thanks for your help
You can download your verizon contacts on a PC, then import into Google and merge duplicates.
Better option would be to just use Google's gmail contact system. Its built-in and then works with any rom/phone you would ever use.

Agreed, always relied on Back Assistant but now don't use it anymore. Sync with Google Contacts is the way to go.

Hi. I'm coming from a stock samsung 2.3.3 rom, I'm all ready to root it and give it a new firmware but will I lose my contacts which are integrated with facebook and all? I backed up a copy of it onto the sd card, but I'm not sure if it keeps the integration.

provided you have synced with your gmail account, you should keep your contacts. you just log in once you boot up after flashing and your contacts will be refreshed
How do I know if I synced it to my gmail account? Does the backup to sd card function keep the integration with facebook?

you could also move them to sd card and if they,re on sd csrd, u won't lose them and you would, they still would be in your nandroid backup and you could take them from there with appextracktor

Before you do anything BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP. Use titanium to backup your apps. To find out if your gmail is syncing your contacts go to settings - accounts and sync. You should clearly see if your gmail is syncing your contacts. When you flash a new rom it will ask you to enter your gmail. This will then sync all your contacts to your phone. When you get clockworkmod installed backup a full image of your phone so you wont lose anything. Goodluck!
Thanks for the help guys! Okay gonna see if its syncing but I'm more worried about the facebook integration because I don't want to repeat the tedious process of merging my contacts painstakingly again!

Ohh another question, erm I can see that my google account is under the list of things syncing, is there somewhere I can check the contacts whether they are saved correctly or not? Thanks guys!

well which ever rom you are using both stock and cm7 contact already have built in option to import export contacs as vCard files..
GO Contacts is a nice app that does the job and it's free.

FYI, you can back up your contact on your google account and sync it without making a file
So I hate the stock messaging app. So I went with GO SMS PRO! I love the app. So many useful options! But I am having one small issue. How do I get Facebook photos to show up? In my contacts list they are all merged and it worked with the stock messaging app. Any idea? I have been using it for about a week now and I have yet to figure it out. Minor? Yes! But still very annoying!
Thanks for any advice!
Not one person? Hmm...

Thanks! I will try it tonight. I am guessing you have used this before?
I'm having the same issue with Go SMS...i think its a bug. If we use another program to sync, it will work..but the matching schemes may be different.
fb photos
it has something to do with ICS not sharing different 'account' information or something like that.
There are a few apps, like the one listed above, that pulls in your facebook photos, stores it locally, and assigns those pictures to your contacts list.
There are settings to specify how often you want it to sync photos, whether you want to do it over WiFi only or not, etc.
I have mine set to every 4 days, and only when i'm on WiFi.
Only 'problem' is that it will create duplicate contacts, and then merge those contacts with the ones you currently have on your phone. Just something to know. (at least mine does this)
export contacts out to sd card/sim w/e and import back to gmail
still probably going to have duplicate contacts, if i remember correctly thats how i worked around it.
annoying is hell..thats all I have to say.
