Does anyone know about using us cellular note 2 on verizon - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Please help as I need to flash or unlock the us cellular note 2 to use on Verizon. Is it possible and if so how do I go about doing it? Please help!! Thank you!

This is not an easy task. Unless you know someone that has access to Verizons databases, you can't activate the phone on Verizon.
Don't quote me on this, but I don't think that phone supports Verizons bands.

OK. I agree not easy. Any thoughts on being able to flash with CDMA WORKSHOP? I really need help if you or anyone has thoughts or ideas please get back to me. I appreciate it!

Activation is all through the SIM card for LTE phones. Odds are, the USC version doesn't support the proper LTE bands to work. I also think you're going to have problems using the CDMA network as well, even if the SIM card is recognized.

It will most likely be impossible and that's if the phone supports the same bands lol. Why not just sell it and by a vzw one?

welll ........try this
first is it unlocked and if so do this set it to global sim add apns (get on google) buy titainium backup root (oh you do have to have root ) also pop in sim if you have service bars check for the apn"s if you dont have them downloan apn manager convert it to system app through titainium b. then put sim in and reboot point i am not responseable if damage occurs ... but it shouldnt so you can you tube it to hope that helps you :good:

Nor for sure if it's possible with custom flashing but it's not stock. The note that I saw was heavily locked down. It had a sim card slot but that was about it.

First of all.... looking at this link below.... the SCH-i605 and the SCH-R950 are on the same bands.
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_note_ii_cdma-5152.php
Second, I am also attempting to get this working myself. The SIM Card is not even recognized. I have my SIM from my Nexus and it still Says No SIM.
Anybody else want to lend some advice? I too would like this working.

A little more research. US Cellular did not want to give up their information to "Unlock the phone". Verizon's SIM does not work with the US Cellular stuff on the phone. It looks like that the partition needs to be setup with the Verizon PIT file. Once it is re-partitioned, then the rest of the phone should be able to be flashed to Verizon.
Am I far off base? Has anyone had success with Re-partitioning? The last 2 tries, it hangs at Get PIT for mapping.... or something like that.

Seems a little off that the partitions would be different.
I imagine it is CSC and maybe even EFS related.
Do you have a USC pit file? I'll compare it to the verizon one.

That's another issue. I don't have a USC Pit file.

I found an R950 firware update that may have the necessary PIT and CSC files. It's extremely slow... might not get back to this until late tomorrow.

Not included. Like I said before, the verizon PIT hangs at Get PIT for mapping on the R950. If someone can provide that file, I'm curious if it will get past that point.

Won't work without heavy SW work at the modem level and kernel. For 2/3G, they share the same bands (PCS/Cellular). LTE is on completely different bands (Verizon is on Band 13, U.S. Cellular is on Bands 2,4,5 and 12). Therefore, if you could hack it enough to get it to accept modified VZ SW, it would only work on 2/3G.

First up sorry to dig it out of the grave
but i saw some utterly famous guyz replying so thought of dropping my query as well.
I am gonna get a USC Note 2 , though i will primarily use it on cdma , but i was wondering if now ( its been a month since last reply in this thread )
the phone can be unlocked and can be used on a gsm network outside of country ,
i wish to just pop in any gsm sim in it when i am abroad and use that on it.
or if there i a way to make it work with the cdma sims outside of US.
would be grateful if anyone can shed any light.
thanks

I believe that the USC Note 2 is unlocked for GSM sim cards. I will know in about 5 weeks. I plan on testing my "testing" USC Note 2 while abroad. If it works, I will let you know.
I would still like to get it to recognize my VZW Sim card. Ugh!

It is unlocked for GSM bands domestic and internationally on supported frequencies.
For Domestic GSM/UMTS/HPSAP+ bands ( you ARENT locked to 2G , but you need to be on refarmed 1900MGHz bands for H+ in your area) I suggest taking a look at JellyBeans ROm 13 or 14.... Supports GSM bands and APN editor . I have my Verizon sch-i605 running on TMobile at 6MB+ down and 2MB+ up with text and mms with no problems at all.
TMO has no contract plans from $50-$70
Simple Mobile has plans from I thin $30-$60
both with 4G (AKA HSA+)

Its not an issue with verizon variant, but us cellukar vwrsion is tricky. Inserting an international gsm sim only shows unsupported

RE: As of 9-13-13, no luck still with Re-Part. working on clients R950 trying without root is the goal, but appears it is the only way. Manual Programming is also difficult. VRZ's pit file i605 won't map on R950. Soft bricked the phone after each attempt. Both phones operate on same bands for sure, but must have providers software installed for the LTE card to work. Not even sure how stable a root would be, but not going to attempt on clients phone......

Attempted something similar today, was told the phone does not contain a CDMA radio so no go for service of any type because it does not support the same LTE band also.
Even if you managed to get the radio working, the Verizon rep said that the phone is not on their list of allowed devices and a SIM would not activate over their network.

Confused, I have Samsung galaxy Axiom and....

it is from us cellular if you ask me its the s3 mini anyways itsa cdma phone that has a sim slot which has a card in it for us ceullar. now im confused the phone specs say its cdma only but with a sim card that makes me t hink its gsm global(locked to any us gsm providers im sure) and cdma so I would assume it will work with say cricket wireless.
I am leaving u ceulluar and would like to use the phone with c ricket wireless and being its a cdma phone im surei could it is just that sim card confused me.
I know on phone in past cricket can take your imei i think it is and use a tool over the phone to convert it to propperly work on their network.
So basically anyone know if this phone can be used with cricket? is it locked? do I ahve to flash it. if the gsm part is locked that wont matter since i will only be ising the cdma part. here is the link to the phone on us cellular

Edited: The sim card has your programing for CDMA & 4g/LTE access. Just took mine out and it has zero service without it. I would guess as long as you put it in another compatible phone you would get service.
Hoping someone will figure out a simple rooting method, but doesn't appear there is a lot of interest yet.

Thanks but nah not what I was wanting, i wanted to be able to use the phone on cricket but since they dont use sim cards since their phones are cdma was why I was confused that this one has a card since usually only GSM phones use those. so im guessing I wont be able to use it on their network if they added it..I know they can convert certain imei's over the phone with a tool they ahve with cricket support but have not tried that yet.

So, just wondering, would the Samsung Axiom work on T-Mobile or AT&T ?
yes and no
The R830 by U.S cellular is a CDMA phone. now ah days having a sim card slot does not symply mean its GSM ....TMobile....GSM ALL DAY. ATT GSM all day. Vzw,sprint, uscellular...CDMA. the Sim card in question is a 4glite. it controls the 4g side and basically activates the phone upon new activation. the question is: WELL THIS PHONE WORK ON CRICKET? Answer...yes...I put one on Pageplus by just activatiing the imei and then OTA...but I'm having trouble with the DAta side... cant get data or MMS (picture messaging) to work..talk and texts works fine.....Now im on to figuring out how to get this thing into DiagMode without rooting it Oh yeah.....try activating your Imei on cricket and then star code it. . if it asks you to press 1 or 2 but you dont see a keyboard,....thats okay...just let the lady run her mouth until the music starts playing....when its done the phone will restart and you'll have talk and text

No, your phone will not work on either. The sim slot in question is for 4glte, all 4g phones will have this sim slot. A GSM sim will not provide any functionality at all.

[Q]OOC Verizon S4 on Tmobile?

I've done some research on the topic but am having a hard time finding a definative answer on the topic.
I bought my phone thru Verizon (paid in full) intially to ensure I would keep my unlimited data plan. Since this purchase I've discovered that T-Mobile has s $30/mo plan that fits my lifestyle just fine. My intent is to sell my plan (craigslist/ebay/etc) to get out of our contract and make some $$$ on the side.
When I bought this phone 1 of the major draws I saw was that, even though it's a Verizon phone, it wasGSM compatible. I've read plenty of posts about users throwing in a ATT sim card and being good to go. On the tmobile side of things, the results aren't as clear.
So.... Long story short, I'm looking for a definative answer if the Verizon GS4 will fully work on T-Mobile's GSM network and if so, where might one find some guidance on what I need to do if there are any necessary steps involved.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Plain and simple... No, the Verizon GS4 will not work on Tmobile. Verizon is cdma and tmobile is gsm. It will not work

These questions are tricky. Work!? You have to define that word before you get your answer. Voice works and so as data IF you add APN manually (or if it comes automatically from T-Mo). Now by data you mean 2G(EDGE)? 3G(HSPA)? 4G(LTE)? It also depends on whether you are in an area where T-Mo has re-farmed 1900 HSPA. If you are in one of these areas then you got 3G for data. If not, 2G for you. No 4G anywhere for this phone on T-Mo.

Yes, it is %100 possible. It's involved...to the extent that it might not be for those who aren't willing to turn their phone into a PDA.
In this post I explain (condescendingly, because some guy was so sure it wasn't possible) that phones nowadays are capable of multiband...because it's just not cost effective for manufacturers to produce one phone for CDMA, then one for GSM, one for LTE, one for AWS bands, etc etc...you get the picture. If you look up the specs of the chips in the S4 (probably the same across the carriers) you'll see that it's a pentaband phone.
Short story long...I come from a time where there wasn't a "It's not possible"...my job bought me a VZ S4 which I plan on using with my Tmobile simcard...because I don't feel like carrying a Nexus 4 AND an S4...I'll post my progress in the forums for all to benefit from. Until then...
I only tested it for a few minutes.... but I did get lte on it but not sure about aws... on T-Mobile. Sorry I couldn't do a more extensive experiment.

Yes it is possible. And it is actually not that much work.
#1 be rooted
#2 put in tmobile sim and restart phone (cant change apn with vzw sim)
#3 change the apn settings for voice and data to t mobile (google it)
I have been using a verizon i545 S4 on tmobile for 3 weeks now. I have voice text and 4g h+ data.
The S4 is global, even if verizon tries to lock it down.

how are you getting 4g? I'm only getting 2g ;-; i'v ebeen asking everywhere but everybody seems to think it cant be done i guess? I just get ignored by the usually helpful community.
I am also on hyperdrive, have you looked at their coverage map? And what apn are you using tmobile has 3. Standard phones, smart phones, and I believe one for hipsters aka apple? The proper apn starts with fast. (Its 645 in the morning google it yourself)
Another thing to consider, you might be getting 4g or h what ever, t mobile is half as fast as verizon. I had to use xposed framework to turn on the proper icons.
The steps I posted are all I did, other than being on hyperdrivre rom. Try setting to gsm as your preffered network?
Im sorry people have ignored this and claim its impossible, the tmobile guy in store actually got his manager to come use my phone after I got it working in front of him in store. The store manager told the employee I must be some super hacker and this isnt possible for normal people. All i did was imout the apn and the sim nothing crazy.

[WIP] T-Mobile AWS/LTE on Verizon S4 (SCH-i545)

Background: Work bought me an S4, but they use Verizon...I use T-Mobile. I must solve this issue. (Plus it's been so long that since I've even opened my QXDM/QPST that I almost...almost forgot how to use it, man, I miss it)...
This is more of a running log to potentially help others in their endeavors. This is an advanced topic...by today's standards. There is a LOT you need to know before just jumping in on this...unless you're like me and don't mind bricking a device for the sake of learning...then, carry on.
BTW, As you can clearly tell..I don't do super formatted frilly assed colorful posts...
ONWARD!!
What is known so far:
1. The modem MDM9615m is capable of anything...(Maybe even making you tea).
2. Using either 2009031920090615 or 2010031619780721 as the 16 digit PW in QXDM allows you to use "Software Backup" to backup and restore QCN files...(Both work, only one puts the phone offline)
4. The AWS band method that is floating around here (337_aws.qcn) doesn't work...it actually breaks the phone. (more on that later)
5. Putting your backup on again leaves whichever fields the 337 file had intact...so say you put the 337_aws.qcn file onto the phone, it stops working...however, you restore your backup...and the phone starts working again but all the fields of the NV that were written by the 337 file remain. Though phone functionality is restored.
6. MDK or ME7...doesn't matter at this point...no effect on functionality.
7. Flashing an MD1 modem/NV Backup from a T-Mobile Note II (which also has the 9615 doesn't seem to work...yet)...It actually kills the phone...I'll update when/IF I revive it...
8. You can Odin your modem back...whew!
What needs to be explored:
1. Whether or not flashing (shoehorning) another carriers radio will help (or if it's even an option)...this would probably have to be a regional carrier or maybe an international (non US) carrier's radio. Usually the bigger carriers can tell the manufacturer what to leave out/put into their phone...
2. Which NV Items need to be modified in order to get AWS (maybe even LTE) working.
3. Can a backup of another phone....let's sayyyy a T-Mo S4...be made and dumped onto the i545.
4. What complications are there? Is this permanent, can the phone be put back to "normal"? etc. etc.
5. If, as a last resort, we can edit the current parameters that are in the NV of a stock i545 to simply "reroute" (work with me here)...what bands it uses for which function...(this is the most tedious...but most undoable method...that I can think of....so far).
Troubles I've already ran into:
As mentioned before...after you write the 337_aws.qcn file to the phone it's pretty much set in stone...for now. When this happens, the modem starts boot looping...I'm sure this is due to bad parameters since the 337_aws.qcn file was probably from a 9215, i545 uses a 9615...you will not be able to access it again in QPST/XDM...
You'll have to get into Settings, More Networks, Mobile Networks, Network Mode, and select GSM/UMTS...this will keep the modem alive for you to be able to play with it again.
So far that's it. I've only been able to start messing with this phone in the past day or so...so, I'm sure this thread will be my dumping ground for my progress/findings/ideas...etc. Again, I encourage anyone that wants to help....to do so. I'm always open for collaboration.
This is where I start filtering down and organizing what I'm doing.
I believe that the best course of action right now is to utilize the 9615m radio from a Note 2...and perhaps a ROM from a T-Mo S4...
The main reason is because when you flash the 9615 modem but still use a VZ Rom...it tries to force it into a "WCDMA Preferred" selection. Which as we know...isn't an option in the menu. However, it's still trying...but I think the ROM doesn't know what to do at that point (could be way off here). I'm thinking that there has got to be a specific combination that needs to be used....for example...a Note 2 modem with a Tmobile ROM and NV backup? or that...but with a VZ NV backup...
I'm not a programmer/rom guy, (I'm more RF engineering etc...), so I don't know if there are things in the ROM itself that dictate which options are available and how the modem is used...
More exploration to be done...
Build.prop indicates to the system what network options should be available
Tmo rom looks like the way to go
On these newer phones the modem dictates pretty much everything else network-wise

That's good information....I tried running Paranoid Android but it wouldn't boot and any other rom told me that the device ID was wrong. I'm going to look into bypassing that check and try some more...
It hasn't been fully proven/disproven but it seems that there may be a "hard" block for US CDMA devices to use US GSM.
It can certainly see it but won't connect based on the threads I read.
But I don't think anyone has documented it in thorough detail what has and has not been tested.
Now if that setting is in NV data and can be modified... you may have a shot.
But if it's something hard coded and/or physical (QFuse) it may not be possible.
Q: Would it not be easier to find someone to swap with you? Or sell the device and get a Tmo?

Haha, leaps and bounds! easier, but what's the fun in that? How will we learn what can and can't be done if we take the easy way? Plus...maybe someone runs into a stellar deal and can't afford a full priced S4...they might nab a VZ one for cheap...this could potentially help a lot of people...
This is more to learn than anything...
Any progress?
Any progress with this? I'm in the same boat.
Thats a shame. Would be nice to have found out if a CDMA S4 could be fully used with GSM network.

HSPA on this divi e. Not LTE.
It makes me confused that band 4 LTE is locked on the phone
I always thought verizon had the open access regulation from FCC and that's the reason all verizon LTE phones are gsm unlocked
in fact some posts indicates it's CDMA unlocked also. Some CDMA carriers use R-uim card such as China telecom, and people were able to insert the ruim and have cdma working.
From this post, it seems verizon only had the regulation on LTE 700 band 17, not AWS band 4?
or is it just because verizon hasn't really deployed AWS LTE yet, so the relative software hasn't been released yet?

just for clarification, Verizon uses LTE 700 B13 not B17. According to Samsung and some other website Verizon S4 support LTE B4 and B13. and according to the guy in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44206677&postcount=20 he is using or have used VZW S4 on T-mobile LTE.
This is one of the oddest things I've ever run into.
I can put a T-Mobile Sim in the phone and it works almost like it was a Verizon Sim with the exception of needing to switch it to global mode when prompted.
If I stick a GSM Metro PCS Sim that I am currently using on the M919 it wont connect to anything except Wifi.
I hate locked bootloaders.
What about with custom roms?

Sorry that was a typo, yep att use b17 and vzw use b13
Verizon is going to deploy a second LTE network using AWS spectrum in congested areas
Why you guys don't install "android data tool" to be able to enter the *#*#4636#*#* menu so you could set LTE only to see if Verizon S4 pick up T-Mobile LTE?
If you are rooted and have access to write system data you could edit the "sale_code.dat" file under system/csc and change from VZW to SPR, AWS or any other code, so you can have more network mode options under mobile network settings.
Just for some clarification... This is done on Stock Touchwiz rom or is the device rooted and / or rommed and loki-d
Thanks,
Eric
So I can put a verizon sim card in my tmobile Gs4?I thought Verizon didnt use sim cards like tmobile and at&t.my tmobile Gs4 is unlocked so basically I just need a Verizon sim card and a Verizon plan. Thanks!!!

I don't think that works that way. Verizon is a CDMA carrier and T-Mobile a GSM carrier. Verizon sim card is for LTE only (LTE is GSM based technology). Voice works over CDMA radio which T-Mobile S4 lack of it. T-Mobile sim works on Verizon S4 because Verizon S4 is CDMA/GSM/LTE capable.

[Q] Unlock Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4

Is it possible to unlock the Verizon version of the S4? I'm deploying in 4 weeks and would like to use my phone with international carriers. I have an SCH-I545 build and I'm still running on stock. Thanks
I think ATT has begun to unlock phones internationally when asked.
Verizon? Not sure... one think to check is if the Verizon GS4 supports a carrier in the country you travel to.
Take a look at Leo Laporte's Tech Guy show... he has callers ask this quetion on average every other week... I think he has show notes on his site now days... techguylabs.com

Verizon phones are unlocked out of the box, but you have to make sure that the country you are going to has a GSM network.
After a lot of searching, I decided to ask this here:
I have a Verizon S4, but I was wondering if it was actually unlocked out-of-box or if there is something I have to do in order to use it with, for instance, Cricket, or U.S. Cellular. I have done lots of rooting/developing for Android, but have never tried to use an Android phone with a differing carrier. Can anyone help or point me to a thread that helps? (Again, did lots of Googling and XDA-searching)

The phone is GSM-unlocked. This means that you buy a SIM, plug it in, then add the proper APN to enable data. (Settings, Connections, More networks, Mobile networks, Access Point Names). The "+" (Add APN) button is disabled if you have a VZ SIM installed but will be enabled if you insert a non-VZ SIM.
Whoever you get the SIM from will tell you what to enter for the APN.
Whether or not it'll work and how fast a network you'll get depends on the bands that the local carrier uses.

HI k1mu,
So do you mean to say if I purchase this device with full price from VZW ~$400 (month to month plan),
the next thing I can do is take off VZW SIM and would it work on my AT&T GSM SIM in US?

Maybe. While the VZW version is GSM-unlocked for international use, it is unclear how well it works with US GSM carriers. Some people say they can get it to work, some say they can't. Theoretically, it should only take you putting in an AT&T SIM then plugging in the APN data for it to work, but some people still say it won't.
So, you should be able to, but going by the accounts of XDA members, it doesn't always work, which may or may not come down to user error.

Thanks joshm.1219,
It still leaves me in a dilemma.. I do really want to get a "S4 mini" model but don't want to stuck up with CDMA providers to be true. Might want to use with ATT or Tmobile or H2O.. I visited the VZW store and the model has option under networks as
1. Global
2. LTE/CDMA
3. GSM/UTMS
Now the Qs are,
1. If this model does have a SIM card slot, how at the first point VZW has lock on it
2. When i asked the VZW associate, he was not sure whether they ever do unlock the device or not
3. If I am ready to pay off complete price of the device which is ~400, what else I would need from them to really 'UNLOCK' it?
4. Is there any means by root/flashing to make such model work for US GSM carriers like H2O or even T-mobile.
Sorry to be so annoying but m new to all these things and quite confused :crying:
many Thx in advance..

Sorry I can't be of more help, I've been on Verizon for 10 years now, but it is by all intents & purposes, fully SIM-unlocked. It's simply unclear as to why some people report problems of using Verizon phones on US GSM carriers. If you really don't want to worry about it & are willing to pay full price, purchase a device through the carrier you want to use it on.
here is the code to choose network
you might need to change the network frequency to gsm if you wanna use it on att or tmobile and when you wanna switch back to verizon choose wcdma try dialing *#*#4636#*#*:good:

I've had people argue with me over this, but the fact is that NO Verizon LTE phone is SIM-locked. None. Nada.
People who claim differently are simply misinformed. (My I545 comes up on AT&T when I plug in my UK SIM and switch to GSM.)
Not to say that all VZ phones are unlocked - my Inc2 had to be unlocked before it would work with that same SIM. If I remember right, it wouldn't connect in the US, either, even after being unlocked. Not so for the GS4.
I appreciate the posts here from people who know. As for me, I am switching to tmobile and will attempt to use this there. If it doesnt work out, I will sell it on swappa and get a nexus 5!
Hi,
Verizon S4 with 4.3 is international unlocked by default.
You just need to select network mode 'GLOBAL'. Then add the right APN.
I am using Indian GSM SIM with the GLOBAL mode selected. All is well for me.
I can provide screenshots if anybody wanna see.
Verizon phones are unlocked out of the box and they DO work fine on US carriers I'm running my Verizon S4 right now on AT&T and I also ran it on tmobile for short time,
even works with Walmart straight talk and Net10 as those are just subsidies of T Mobile and AT&T anyway.
so don't sweat it if you have a verizon phone that uses a sim card, you can run it on any network that uses a SIM card US or international.
baseband issue
Doesn't the MK2 baseband with jb 4.3 block US Sim cards?
Or do I just have a weird s4?

The S4 is supposed to work globally right out of the box, as long as you've called Verizon to enable International roaming on your account. But, used that way, you'll be paying Verizon for International roaming and it's bloody expensive.
The question is, can you remove the SIM and put in a SIM for a local carrier in the foreign country where you are and use the phone on that carrier? That is what being unlocked would allow you to do. Past Verizon phones have not been unlocked to allow this. But, if you called Tech Support and told them you were going to, for example, Europe and wanted to use a local SIM, they would walk you through unlocking (at no charge).
I read a report that the S4 is not locked and that you can use a SIM for a local carrier in Europe, as it comes out of the box. But, I would not trust that. I would call VZW Tech Support and tell them exactly what you want to do - i.e. don't say "can I use my phone in Europe?" The answer to that is yes, you can, at about $1/minute. What you should ask them is, "can I travel to Europe and purchase a SIM from a local carrier and use that in my phone?" If not, they should be able to walk you through unlocking the phone, so you can do that.

to answer your question simply yes.
let's say I take my phone to Spain are somewhere in the UK, I'll go to store buy a SIM card for local network and BAM local phone number in Europe making phone calls, you can even get Data to work if you have that local carrier's APN settings
no unlocking is required because it is not locked.
other companies AT&T, Sprint, t-mobile, yes you have to get The phone sim unlocked.

This is 100% correct. NO LTE phones on verizon are sim locked. They are REQUIRED to keep them unlocked because of their agreement with the FCC for their use of the spectrum they lease. NO OTHER CARRIER must abide by these rules. Only VZW. Sprint I've heard will unlock ANY phone that is capable if you ask them too, and AT&T will NOT unlock any of their phones unless it 2 years old and out of contract (which makes no sense if you have to pay them while under contract anyway). There was a big deal about the Iphone 5 when it came out with LTE for verizon. If you bought a Verizon Iphone, you could put an ATT sim in it and it works, but not an ATT on VZW because ATT keeps them locked.
The Dinc 2 above was NOT an LTE device. Therefore no sim card....and it wouldn't work on most overseas networks anyway as it was a CDMA only phone. I believe VZW tested the limits of the "unlocked" SIM with their first few LTE phones. My Rezound worked with a GSM network sim....but voice and SMS only. It took some unlocking of the bootloader and rooting to run a special Rom to get Data to work on it.
I am heading to the Caribbean in a few weeks, and I will be using a rented SIM card to be able to message back and forth with my wife (with a data based messenger service as data rates are far cheaper than SMS rate there)

I just spent a week in the UK with an ekit.com SIM in my Verizon GS4 - no problem with getting service, no Verizon charge (even though I was on the Vodaphone network for at least some times.)
And the dinc 2, while not LTE, was CDMA/GSM - not just CDMA (yes, the dinc was CDMA-only), so it did accept a SIM card. I'm using that in the GS4 now that it's cut down to micro SIM.
That phone WAS SIM-locked, but VZ happily unlocked it. For the GS4, I didn't have to do anything with VZ to use it off their network.

The phone is already unlocked for SIM and other carriers, all you need is the correct APN for the carrier. I currently have T-Mobile on my i545 and everything works on it.

Unlock Sprint LS990 for any CDMA carrier!!!

Hi guys,
I spent a lot of time trying to do this and would like to share my SUCCESSFUL efforts with you all!
First let me clarify some of the terminology. Sprint and other carriers program their hardware EPROM to their network specs and lock access to it. This lock is called the MSL code!!! [Master Software Lock?? ]. You would need this code if you want to make any changes to it.
Electronically Programmable Non Volatile (ie a fixed value chip)ROM which is also called NV Rom (NV in short) is where the carrier customization are stored and read from when the phone boots up. The unlock process changes the carrier data to be read from a SIM card instead of from programmed NV. Also note that CDMA or GSM SIMs are actually called RUIMs in the tech world (<--Wiki this). Something I learnt the hard way...
Second, this is not rom flashing (i.e putting another OS on your phone's SSD card and updating the boot records). You will be programming the phone and if you mess up mommy wouldn't be able to help you . There would be noway to unbrick your phone so check your USB cable (most common culprit) virus scanners running on your PC etc etc.. before you try this.
Please thank Vinod Nayak at Rimweb for putting this all together for us. I am in Tokyo and have followed these guides to successfully unlock my Sprint LS990 to work on AU by KDDI (albeit only with 3G speed). So if you are still reading get a cup of coffee and head on to the sites below and read on. Please note you may need to register on their forum to see the screen caps (recommended).
You need the MSL code to reprogram your phone. Follow this guide to obtain it first and keep handy.
http://www.rimweb.in/forums/topic/37104-lg-g3-sprint-ls990-cdmagsm/
There were other guides found on XDA that will find your phone's MSL code. Once you have this go to the next step below..
General guide on how to Root your G3 and convert it from Sprint NV to any RUIM (SIM)
http://www.rimweb.in/forums/topic/3...uim-in-any-cdma-phone-using-dfs-free-version/
Let me know if it worked for you!! Merry Christmas and a Happy new year to you all!!
UPDATE:
I updated to CM12 based ROM 10 mins back and data works without any APN setting!!!
so...???
So, this will allow me to take my Sprint LS990 to Verizon?
If you get a sim/ruim from VZ I think you should me able to. Try it and share your experience.....
If I do this will my Sprint service stop working until I change back to NV_Only?
You can select RUIM Preffered setting instead of ruim only. That should allow the phone to default back when a ruim is not present in the slot. This is what I actually did.

This seems to be the closest thing we have to a proper carrier unlock, especially if the RUIM preferred option sticks and allows continued function on Sprint (if desired). There's a thread in another form (can't remember where) that has a method for unlocking all the phones radio bands. These 2 things combined could make a true world phone, increasing the dollar value and function.
I jacked around with DFS on my old LGOG with an embedded SIM and no bootloops, although RUIM preferred wouldn't stick, it gave me a chance to look around. Has anyone successfully unlocked their G3 to use a SIM or any CDMA carrier with this method?
I'm not ready to pull the trigger on it but am thinking about picking up a used G2 to mess around with and see what I can do.

I don't know about that. I think you're looking for a corporate PRL which allows faster speeds when roaming. I'm looking for someone who is in the US and still on Sprint but tested the RUIM preferred method with other SIMs and back to Sprint domestically to see if it works forward and backwards.

I'm wanting to try this with Ting (since it's BYOD blacklisted until August), but I'm curious about the "only 3G" issue the OP had. It wouldn't be so bad, but it would be nice to be able to revert back once August rolls around to get on the 4G. So my question is:
- Does this process change things that can be backed up / undone? (I'm guessing not, but would love to be wrong)
Incidentally, Ting is rolling out GSM support as we speak, so I may try to go that route first, though I think I might only get Edge speeds...

3G issues (LTE not working) might have something to do with the bands. Unlocking more radio bands on the qual comm is another process that is documented in other forums. Very detailed and you don't want to mess up.

Interesting, thanks for the tip. It does look a bit scary, haha -- we'll see if I get to that point. I posted a question on the forum the OP was referencing about the possibility of undoing / reverting to a backup after doing that process. I'll post here if I find out elsewhere.

I've got everything working on the stock rom using this method with my AT&T sim. (However, I have RUIM only enabled) But I can't seem to get cm12 working. Radio acts like it wants to work, but it's very slow with sms, and the dialer doesn't work at all.
I have my "Preferred network type" set to "Global." I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how you have CM12 working. Also, I've tried a couple other compatible ROMs. Do you have any other information on what you did to get it working?
