why not asking ?
Ask cm team themselves why they made that rule. And u probably could get proper answer if u ask that on cm's official forum. Maybe if u got lucky, cyanogen himself will answer it
Compiling android takes time let them do everything they are really working hard..
no release
FXP team discontinued cm development for 2011 devices, so no further release for us

You guys are aware right that Erik Hardesty a.k.a. dalingrin is wokring on ICS for touchpad and has promised (citation needed) to deliver before CM9? Now, I want to know if he indeed delivers, then will his work to taken to make the CM9 build faster and then will he be included in the official CM team. I am asking this because I have a Moto Defy and before CM7, Quarx, Epsylon and others compiled it and I think they are now in the CM team. Just curious on how it works.
He is already a part of the CM team, he is the CM maintainer for the Nook Color.
That's news.. well for me! But if there is someone else in his place who is ot in the CM team then what happens?

Then its not a CM9 build. Basically the CM team are a bunch of developers on different devices. In the case of ICS each developer will build their versions and it will be pushed and integrated into the CM9 list when CM9 is ready to launch. However, in the case where a CM team member's build is ready to be tested before CM9 is ready then they will most likely post them as a under a different title because its not integrated as a CM9 device yet.
In the case that another developer releases an AOSP ROM into the wild then he can do whatever he wants with it and it has nothing to do with the Cyanogenmod team whatsoever.

@iamsamsamiam: I get your point but if that is the case then how come Quarx and Epsylon (for Motorola Defy) are in the official CM team now (I think they are [citation needed!]). If you are not aware, CM7 had no love for Defy for a very long time and that gap was filled by Quarx at first. Afterwards, when we had a almost complete working rom based on CM7, these devs were included in the official list. I just want to know is this how it happens?

And there are still a ton of devices out there without any Cyanogenmod ROM at all. I guess its more like a developer who wants to code for a particular device and wants to put a CM flavour to the ROM and gets permissions from the CM team to use it and builds a CM ROM and I guess they would become part of the team as a de facto point since they continue to support their build. Remember there are a ton of other ROM developers out there that don't use a CM base and does things their own way.
Cyanogenmod isn't always going to be the "best" ROM out there for every device, but they're trying to support many devices out there. The devices that get support are reflected upon the community and the more popular the phone the larger the community. And developers come out of said communities and maybe one of those developers wants to make it into a CM build.

That made sense!
I'm a smultron user,
For high end models we could see a large number of roms present (we could even make a big list) but for xperia 2011 devices there are few roms out there but they are all stuck at ICS or JB 4.1 or 4.2.
The jellybean 4.3 are very very very few.
Since the android 4.4 [KitKat] is made considering the devices with 512mb ram like smultron can we see a large number of 4.4 custom roms with great features for our devices??

Hmmm...the key word is " BE PATIENT " about it...there no Custom Rom yet for 4.4...just wait until Cyanogenmod Team release their Custom Rom first then ONLY then we can talk about 4.4 Custom Rom on Xperia 2011 devices...

Haha....before you get too excited, here is another key word for you " COMING SOON "....are you sure its coming soon as officiallysonyrebel said????
perhaps you should read THIS and THIS....
Cyonagenmod team HAVEN'T started to build rom for 4.4 and yet officialsonyrebel confident that it will coming soon...for your info, Beanstalk rom are also base on CM source code...if Cyonagenmod haven't started building it then where will any dev get the source code????
i quote....
we will continue to work on the 10.2 code branch, in parallel to all of our Android 4.4 efforts. For those that will inevitably ask, we have not made any decisions with respect to what devices will make the leap to the KitKat code base and likely won’t have that information for a few weeks

We are not in a rush to get 4.4 builds out . We are going to continue the process of working on CM 10.2 M1 - getting that out the door and onto your devices. Further, we will 'finish' the 10.2 code base, similar to what we did with 10.1.
As a friendly reminder, please don't flood us with requests for 4.4 - we all want new and shiny things, but we will not do so at the expense of abandoning the hard work our contributors have put into 10.2.
Final note, a lot of folks are reading into the "512mb" item on the release notes. No, this does not mean a sudden resurrection of older hardware, there are dependencies beyond the RAM (and CM has enforced that minimum since ICS)

I guess it is for a reason. In all JB roms on 2011 Xperias camera's quality is poor, also hard to make some stock apps and features to work.

officialsonyrebel: current update is the last update for 4.3 ... as we are moving level up to 4.4 Kitkat .. for all 2011 line up..
I again read what he wrote and it seems that he meant to stop 4.3 with that build and start to work on 4.4 when it is available...

That's from the CM post ...
It will take lot of time & effort for a 4.4 port ..........Dont expect anything this month or this year for that matter ....
Hi, I can build AOKP 4.4.4 from source, someone wants it?
me lol
Of course!
Sent from my Razr XT910
I will test it.
Build
Ok, I'll build it next week, I've only 1Mb of internet connection(u may say "holy **** this is so bad" yes I know) so download repos tooks me about 2 days, and now I'm re downloading the repo of BAM, and it'll be finished tomorrow(maybe in 8 hours), then I'll download all repos for AOKP, and first build will be for UMTS, If it works I build for Verizon. If u want I can build a this rom weekly or once per month, in order to take new code from Cyano and AOKP. And If my router won't get burned XD I will try to build Dirty Unicorns(I like this rom but the develop finished at 4.4.2 :/ ) or another ROM.
If u know a new rom from other device that u want for the RAZR tell me and if I could I'll build it.(I only por from source, because porting copying files and something like that didn't work for me).
Sorry for the delay with the repos and my English.
Regards, have a nice weekend
Your English is fine, and YES I want this! (I only use ROMs that are AOKP or AOKP based....)
Thank You, if the rom Works, I'll update once per month like the official builds, because I saw that for example in one week they update little things. In any case that when I make the build and if some features didn't work I'll leave some days to see if AOKP team solve that and I build it again.

Sounds great to me. I know you said you will build for UMTS first, but when Spyder version is up, I will gladly test it!
Hello people
Android N developer preview has been released by google. What do you think about it guys ? Will it come to s3 and should we expect ? For me, it's not very hard to port it to s3 because it's very similar to MM. And we have cm13 MM

Don't dream about it. The development of CM13 for the S3 is full of problems despite the official status and the great effort of the maintainer, I'm running CM12.1 build 31 "unofficial" and it's the best rom I've tried, and maybe the best there will be for our good old S3, and we should be happy with that.
ps.: MM should be LP 5.2

IMO CM 13 beats CM12 and CM12.1 hard.
CM 13's performance , battery life and multitasking ability is way better than CM 12.
Also it is also quite stable

That is not what I've experienced with CM13, in fact the two roms are very similar in features and look, been CM12.1 far more polished and without missing things in Settings. And about performance, with latest boeffla 4 alpha 19 linaro 5.3.1 version, the CM12.1 build 31 is the fastest rom I've ran on my S3

Ahhh. Ok. Sorry. S3 forever people! :fingers-crossed: :good:
I think that android n will come to s3 because our device is still a good one and with some overclocking and custom roms it bests the s4 original! Hope for marshmallow touchwiz! One day it will be ported as lollipop for s3 neo!
If android n out in this year probably forkbomb444 can do this ;]
I think S3 could possibly got a Cm version of android N, like when the last stable release of the S3 intl was CM11 4.4.4 and then we got a almost stable CM13 which was a 6.0.1 based rom, i still see my friends using expensive phones but were still runing 5.1.1 and some 5.0.2.
Cm makes all the old phones so new and smooth again.

Search for CM12.1 Build 31 unofficial
CM13 is official and I tested a bit the latest nightly builds and 31.03.2016 build is most stable. No bugs!!! And yes, our phone WILL get N version because this version is just a simple update like M.
I've heard that the source code is estimated to come out this fall. This why i hope for a Cyanogenmod 14 to come out for our veteran Galaxy SIII ( cm13 was actually a patch with some improvements to cm 12 and cm 12.1 )
Guys, we all wish to see cm14 in s3 but Lord Boeffla told that he will never develop a kernel for cm14 for s3.He said cm13 boeffla kernel is his last tribute to our s3.
Hello, I should be buying a Swift 2 Plus soon, and as a complete noob, I don't know what the death of Cyanogen is going to do to my device. Obviously it won't instantly brick it, but how am I gonna get future Android updates without installing a custom rom?
have a sexy christmas
Please, read my post here, and the (unconfirmed) Wileyfox's response to Cyanogen move here. It should be enough to clear your doubts

One thing relating more to the custom ROM area. So some of the CM team (not COS) are rebranding as lineage OS right. And they are continuing off the codebase of CM however we don't have a build of CM so how will and developer , from lineage or anywhere else, build a custom ROM without code from CM or AOSP. Unless Cyanogen Inc release the source code for our phone which I'm not sure they will. (Sorry if this is a noob question)

You're absolutely correct. We can't start with the development with no sources. However, I don't think Cyanogen would do that at the moment, and, after seeing Wileyfox's response to Cyanogen moves, I think (and actually hope) they'll switch to an AOSP-based ROM with Android N 7.0 upgrade, and if that happens I'm really sure they'll have no problem on releasing the source code (remember Wileyfox devices tend to be quite developer-friendly). From that, we can work on bringing Lineage...
