hi,
last night i have wiped out my galaxy s3. mainly to clean it and improve general speed of the device. it was never rooted, hacked or 'opened' in other ways, so i thought i may use samsung account backup, that stores your logs, texts and other stuff. so i backed up my device to samsung account, wiped it clean and to my big surprise, backup couldnt be restored as apparently there was none done in the past. this has annoyed me a lot, but to my big surprise, wifi access points are still as they were before.
this is really strange to me, as nothing has been restored apart from google account data, which are contacts, emails and calendar.
could someone please explain to me, where wifi access points are stored in cloud?
thank you.
I don't understand....what are you actually asking?? If clouds have WiFi access points??

hi,
sorry if my question is unclear.
my question is: are the wifi access points stored in google account? cause these were restored after data wipe/clean.
When I restore my Google account it always restores my WiFi passwords, so I guess so....

thank you for your time in answering it!

I am using Samsung Dive, I just tried it and it found my phone, though it needed wifi. I like it, it of course works and I'd be happy to stick with it, but am just curious if there are any potentially better options? I'm hoping for something that would work with just a GPS signal, if that's possible. Happy to stick with Dive, though.
Also, for backup, I'm using my Samsung account and daily backup. I'm guessing this is enough, is there anything again more effective?
Please note I am using stock and have no interest in rooting. Thanks for any help!

Cerberus is by far the best anti theft app out there.
Find it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lsdroid.cerberus
Afaik, Dive also has GPS tracking.
Samsung backup only does your settings. I'm sure you have already synced up contacts and are saving new contacts in your google account, so that's taken care of.
The only remaining thing is your apps and you'll have to be rooted for that I'm afraid, either to do a Nandroid or Titanium backup.

I use SMS backup/restore for SMS, very simple.
If you get Google + or dropbox you can instantly upload photos you take.

I use Avast! Mobile for antivirus and theft protection. Does everything Cerebus does, plus antivirus, all for free.
If you are rooted, nothing beats Titanium backup. With a Dropbox or Box or Google Drive account, it will back up your files to the cloud.
Anyone else use Android Lost? Seems good, but hard to say until you really need it.

Thanks, just installed Cerberus, however the Device Admin rights seems quite scary. I'm guessing without that enabled the app can't really do its job?
So when you say Samsung backup only does my settings, what do you mean? The settings of the phone itself? (Display, sound, etc.).
Yes I have Google account syncing my contacts, calendar, etc.
For apps it doesn't seem a big deal, I'll just keep screenshots of my downloaded list if I had to wipe and reinstall. Particularly as I will not be rooting.

Yup, I use Dropbox and have a task in Astrid reminding me to upload all photos every couple days in case I forget
I just tried ultimate backup and backed up all my downloaded apps to the sd card, it seems to have worked? Is it a bs app or have I just backed everything up without root?
There is an option in dropbox to upload photos as soon as they are taken. No need to remind yourself
When I root i will need to try titanium.

Admin rights are only required for the app to become uninstallable. Everything else works without it.
Sold my galaxy SII and bought a Galaxy SIII. Ive inserted my sim card into my phone and have synced all my contacts. However my sister who has bought my GSII has deleted all my contacts off my new GSIII from her GSII. She says shes jst deleted the contacts and yet they have been deleted off my phone to. How do I fix this?? Thanks. My HTC sensation us unaffected
Sounds like the GS2 was still connected to your google account when your sister deleted all your contacts. If that's the case, unless you backed up your contacts to another medium before she deleted them, I'm not sure you can recover them.

I cant remember deleting my account off of there tbh. Ive got my contacts backed up. My sister is coming round later on. If I wipe all the data off the GSII and create a new google ID on the GSII, will this sort the issue? What I dont want, is to wipe the GSII only to lose all my contacts again (even though Ive got them backed up) Never seen this problem before and Ive owned quite a few android devices.

Hey, Yann68's right! (Thanks dude! I didn't know about this.)
There is a feature to restore contacts back to a specific time. Log into your Google account, go to Contacts. Click the "More" button, and you'll see "Restore Contacts". You can then choose how far back to restore to.
Hi there. I have a couple of questions to ask about my GalaxyS3. GT-19300. Android version 4.1.1. Baseband version 19300BUDL12. Kernel version 3.0.31-256827.
Firstly after what seems like days & days of 'research' I finally plucked up the courage to root my phone, hoping to rid myself of all the bloatware. For a complete newbie like me it was quite daunting really but once I did it, it seemed fairly easy enough? I have installed Nobloat but have not yet used it as I have a few issues that I need resolving?
Anyway since rooting I have downloaded TitaniumBackup & hopefully backed up my files? It took me hours & hours to find out how/where to save it to my external sd card? I am still unsure if I've managed to back up absolutely everything ie; texts & so on? Here is my first question, I have tried to sync my backup to my dropbox but while its 'uploading' it suddenly stops & says stopped because of 'internal error'? What does this mean & why is it happening & what can I do about it?
My next question is since I've rooted my phone, it as gone very very slow, in everything it does, even in my messages it shows the number for 5seconds or so before it actually changes to the contacts name? Is there a reason why my phone is so slow?
My next question is, I think, maybe related. I have ZDbox installed & now when I go to clear/use task killer, my phone reboots? Is there e reason for this & have I done something wrong or am I missing something silly?
I know there are quite a few question here & I have looked & used the search button but I obviously can't see for looking & I have spent a large chunk of time researching/looking for answers?
Anyhow thank you for reading my many questions & hopefully someone can point me in the right direction? It is quite daunting messing with your expensive phone knowing thjat you could potentially 'brick' it!! :fingers-crossed:
Regards Jay
Can't answer all your questions but tb doesn't back up your texts. There are other apps that back up texts without needing root. It only backs up apps and app data. With regards to your dropbox sync, you might have put in the wrong login details? I used it for a while and it was fine.
As for the phone slowing down, try backing everything and do a complete wipe.

Thanks for the quick response:good:. I shall look into the apps that can backup/save texts. I never thought to look there to be honest!!
With regard to my Dropbox, I definitely have the correct log in details, like I say, it gets to about 30% uploaded then comes up with 'internal error'!?
Also would that be a factory reset when you mention complete wipe? Would I then need to download Titanium again to restore my phone to near enough what it is now?
Jay
Back up everything you can, put it safe somewhere else (external sd or pc). Go into recovery and do a full wipe (cache, data, dalvik cache) and reboot. You'll have to set everything up again (login details and etc), but seems like it's the only option afaik.

Sorry to bump this!! I think I know why my phone is so slow, looking through other threads it must be my JB update? (I hope?) So hopefully this will be sorted as soon as my other problem is resolved..... My missing photo? as per my other thread!!
Why not try flashing another rom. Remeber to backup all your files to your pc.

I have only just plucked up the courage to root my phone!!!!! never mind 'flash a new rom' !!!!!!
I'm starting to go crazy with looking at all the various information for hours on end & seemingly getting nowhere & no closer to flashing a new rom?
Now then, funny thing is, my phone has mysteriously gone back to being fairly fast again?? Again I don't know what's happened to revert it back? So at least that's one of my problems sorted :good:
Oh & my other thread about my missing photo as been resolved, I had backed my phone up quite a while back & found it in some old files on an external hard drive, yipeee!!
Jay
Had my damn phone stolen, some prats smashed my window through and took everything. I've tried installing all of those tracking apps, but it seems my phones either constantly turned off, or has been wiped.
But I've had another idea! One day they are bound to use my phone, and set up another google account with it. I was wondering, is there anyway that I could find out what google account they use?
Thanks
If you've registered your phone in the Samsung account... You will be able to track it from the Samsung my account website..
Have you installed any third party app which provides phone tracking such as cerbrus or Avast? If you have.. It's gonna be a lot more easier.. Hope that the thief's haven't done a full wipe and a factory reset on your phone!
Hope you find your phone back!

they've probably wiped the phone and there's nothing you can do besides have the police track it by imei.
if they haven't, install Lookout Plan B

no. you can't find out anything after it's been wiped
PS don't ask any more questions in this section, it's against the rules
Yea I've been down the installing apps route, nothing so far. So I wont be able to see when another google account signs into my device at all?
Keep trying with Plan B, it's probably out of battery, at some point someone will charge it up and turn on. I'd keep trying everytime I had a chance for a week....

Salaam,
Please help me as I made a little mistake that is costing me a lot.
I moved from Galaxy S4 to Galaxy Note 2.
Everytime I take a new phone, during initial setup it gives me to restore my settings from Google which when I enable I get all my saved wifi-access points.
This time however by mistake I didn't allow Google to restore that data in my Note 2 so now I haven't got any saved WiFi passwords.
I had backup of all user and system data from S4 via titanium backup and I tried to restore WiFi access points in Note2 which wont work (maybe compatibility or something, I don't know)
So,
how can i re-enable or force a re-sync that Google to restore my WiFi access points to my mobile or what can i do to get all my saved WiFi profiles back.
Please help as I don't know the passwords of most of them.
Thanks.
same problem
The same thing happened to me and I found this thread trying to find a solution. There has to be a way to force a re-sync of connections from Google. Doesn't anyone know how?

I don't know how you can force resync your connections, but if you haven't wiped your s4 then in a root file browser go to /data/misc/wifi/ and open wpa_supplicant.conf. All your WiFi points, the SSID, passwords, security type, etc. Is stored in there. You can't copy the whole file over directly but you can at least use the info in it to manually enter your WiFi points. Hope this is a good enough work around
Yea, I had a nexus 4 that had my files on, unfortunately I just wiped it like 2 days ago. I'd Google would normally automatic, can I hypothetically login with the wiped phone, have it sync, then transfer as you suggest?
