Is my phone carrier locked or not? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have S2 from orange, I can't decide whether my phone is Sim locked or not!
I was running the Sim normally before and then my phone got some problem, I flashed the latest ICS 4.0.4 (Rooted with Siyah Kernel). Now when I insert the sim it gives No Service! I have tried to insert other Sim but all give the same No service problem.
At the time of inserting sim it doesn't ask for unlock code and I can't determine the state of unlock from *#Simlock#
Thanks for helping

Check your IMEI. If its one particular Imei number, then your Efs is corrupted.

What do you mean by particular IMEI?
MY IMEI is 35884XXXXXXXXXX
And its 15 digit ... what does it mean?

Particular IMEI means the IMEI has repeating numbers. At least that's what I think.

Nop it doesn't have any repeating numbers in it

If its from Orange then it will be locked to them. In about phone in settings are you showing a baseband version?
Sent from my GT-I9100

The baseband is I9100XXLQ6
Before ICS I was running Gingerbread and the Sim was running in it normally

By 'particular' Imei I meant one particular Imei number which you get when efs gets corrupted. Unfortunately I dont know which number exactly that is... :/

Thanks a lot for your help
The problem got solved ... I gave my cell to repair because it wasnt charging ... during the repair they forgot to place the antenna wire therefore I was getting no service when I inserted the sim ... thank you all

Did you back up your efs? I'm going to take a wild guess that you didn't. If not and you have flashed different stock roms and modems then it's service center time.

No EFS backup then its worth a factory reset and flash a stock rom before service centre .
But as you have flashed multiple roms its probably to late to help .

No Service after root

My friend just rooted his international version model GS3 and his 3G reception is . It was bought unlocked to any carrier (T-Mobile sim in it) and it came with SuperSu and CWM installed, but none of the root functions would work so he ran it through odin yesterday and re rooted it and all the root functions now work, but his 3G isn't working right. It also says "Emergency Calls Only" in the notification menu when it would normally say T Mobile. Stock ROM.

Backing up someone elses folder will only give you their IMEI. by doing so you will void the imei as it cant be on 2 devices. Not to mention no one is gonna give you access to their IMEI number. My suggestion would be to start over from scratch.
Try GSII Repair by helroz. If that doesn't work you will need a professional restore. Mobiletechvideos can do it for a small fee.

[Q] New motherboard

Hi everyone,
My S3 motherboard has died and i can buy i new one for only €109.
The only problem is that it is completely blank, no IMEI or anything.
Can i install a new rom with Odin or is it more complicated than that, and how do you program the IMEI number?
Thanks

My dad bought it a few weeks ago and put an old simcard in it, when he wanted to replace the simcard he tried to pry with a screwdriver to get the card out and destroyed the mainbord.
I know how to flash a rom but my question is if its possible to flash a motherboard that has no software or anything on it.
You can't, take it to an authorised repair shop and they can.
I wouldn't advise discussing IMEI programming, it's illegal for you to attempt and will get your thread locked.

No, buy a motherboard from a reputable source and it will come with a new imei number all of it's own.

I'm speaking entirely from ignorance but did you flash the right variant? E.g did you flash 925F firmware on a 925F device? If I were to hazard a guess (and that's all this is, a guess) I'd say your radio firmware seems messed up (with baseband also being unknown).
What happens when you revert to your original firmware?

Did you flash the 5.1.1 version and then the 5.0.2? Flash the 5.1.1 again.
Ok so i flashed official firmware,i now have signal but my imei number isnt right it reads as follows 350000000000006 it ses i am not registered on network. Imei sv is 01

Only way to flash it back would be if you made a backup of the EFS partition when you first rooted/installed recovery. The EFS partition contains all the IMEI data which is unique to your phone and flashed at the factory. Since you corrupted it, the only way to restore it would be to flash the EFS backup if you made it or send it back to Samsung for service. AFAIK there isn't a way to recover lost IMEI's if the EFS partition has been corrupted/wiped.
That's ducks really badly

Yeah. I suggest sending it back for repairs and when you receive the new one, root and do a backup of the EFS partition after root. There are several guides online on how to do a backup of EFS using adb/terminal emulator. Keep this backup in a safe location and don't lose it.
You can flash what you want now, nothing will help you. Your EFS partition is gone and without this specific backup you cannot restore the IMEI number. Send the phone to Samsung, they can generate the IMEI number and restore the entire phone.
new trwp recovery have a option to backup.. will post the thread here as little warning in the twrp thread..
Yep I always backup my efs/imei folder as soon as I root phone.

Hi.
I did the same stupid thing a while ago with the same result (without efs backup). Forget about reflashing. The phone is now a mediaplayer.
I asked our local Samsung repair shop, but they wanted to exchange the entire motherboard. Thats how they fix these things in Sweden.
BUT there is an easy way to fix it.
If you have been flashing 5.11, then I dont know, but if you havent, then you can contact an IMEI fix website, and they will help you
by remote service. It works perfectly well. You will get a new IMEI and new serial number. Send me a PM for a link. There is not so many
people doing this, and it took me a while to find the right guy, but guess if I was happy when it was fixed
It will cost you some dollars (60 in my case), and you cannot upgrade to 5.11 later (I dont know why), but thats better than brick.
Hope this helps.

Is that actually legal? I'd send it to Sammy and get it properly fixed, rather than putting up with some dubious services. What if you want to sell the phone later? Have fun explaining why updating to 5.1.1 won't work. I wouldn't ever buy a phone if I heard that someone changed the IMEI. Changing the IMEI is usually associated with a stolen device.
I had the same problem (but IMEI dissapeared), when I flashed 5.0.2 didn't work. But Then flashed 5.1.1 and it worked. Try this. You will loose root.
