[Q] New motherboard - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
My S3 motherboard has died and i can buy i new one for only €109.
The only problem is that it is completely blank, no IMEI or anything.
Can i install a new rom with Odin or is it more complicated than that, and how do you program the IMEI number?
Thanks

My dad bought it a few weeks ago and put an old simcard in it, when he wanted to replace the simcard he tried to pry with a screwdriver to get the card out and destroyed the mainbord.
I know how to flash a rom but my question is if its possible to flash a motherboard that has no software or anything on it.

You can't, take it to an authorised repair shop and they can.
I wouldn't advise discussing IMEI programming, it's illegal for you to attempt and will get your thread locked.

Sorry, have nothing illigal in mind, its just that the new mobo is 0000000 i want to use the orig number.

Yes, that's illegal in most countries and not possible for you to do.

No, buy a motherboard from a reputable source and it will come with a new imei number all of it's own.

Dear Noob..you cannot change the IMEI number yourself..you need to have a backup of your EFS folder for that..if you backed it up use the Ktools app to restore the nav_data.bin file...
Otherwise Service Center..
I hope it helped..
P.S. Post questions in the Q&A section..it is there for a reason..
I also flashed omega v14 and ended up the same as you

Looks like you are in deep trouble.
Considering you are asking this question in general section, I'll take the liberty of assuming that you did not backup your efs folder.
May be someone else can pitch in here to help you. Meanwhile you can confirm if you have the backup of efs folder or not?

Here is a guide to repair your IMEI from the SGS2 Forum! It should be the same! I solved my IMEI problem with this Guide on my SGS1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021
[GUIDE] Recover your IMEI in 9 steps.
It is very important that you back up your efs before flashing any ROM, and before you folow this guide BACKUP the faulty efs folder because it contains the old backup of the file nv_data.bin. It beginns with a dot like .nv_data or similar (because I haven't a SGS3, but the structure of the efs folder should be similar).
Please be carefully and think twice what you are doing!!!

where can i download efs form
You can't, efs folder is where your imei and other device specific information.
You can only use yours, changing imei is illegal.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
If you are asking this question then download the toolkit to back up your efs folder.
Also considering that you have international version of this phone so possibly you are not from USA. It's currently legal to change imei number in USA but double check in your country to make sure. General rule of thumb - only USA has this legal.

I really doubt you can just download an efs, that seems illegal.
You may just have to bring it to a Samsung repair centre to get your imei back.
You can't just download a new one.

Your EFS is specific to YOUR device and if you have lost YOUR efs, then you're screwed.

i know im scewed i have to options wait for imei repair or send to samsung for changing motherboard
Your only option to repair imei without having to go to Samsung is to have an efs backup, you don't have one.
Contact them and ask, I doubt they will charge you 202 euro to get your imei back, I don't think they need to replace the motherboard.

I don't think so either since your IMEI, serial number and everything is on the phone sticker and/or box of the phone...

One for Samsung to repair your phone there are one a need to know the correct IMEI either on the box or under the battery .
Two they may well also ask for proof of sale to you .
Take the phone with the above to a Samsung service centre .

There are a million and five threads about this on XDA.
It corrupts the EMMC chip, once corrupted you will need to replace the chip. Nothing can fix it.
can u tell me how much it costs to replace this chip?
so the motherboard and processor are both fine , and only this chip is gone?

You have to replace the whole motherboard - emmc is attached on it, and cannot be purchased/replaced separately.
and how much does this motherboard cost, i am out of warranty?
I wouldnt be surprised if Samsung wanted £200!.
If it were me Id buy a riff box kit rather than paying Samsung.

Is my phone carrier locked or not?

I have S2 from orange, I can't decide whether my phone is Sim locked or not!
I was running the Sim normally before and then my phone got some problem, I flashed the latest ICS 4.0.4 (Rooted with Siyah Kernel). Now when I insert the sim it gives No Service! I have tried to insert other Sim but all give the same No service problem.
At the time of inserting sim it doesn't ask for unlock code and I can't determine the state of unlock from *#Simlock#
Thanks for helping
Check your IMEI. If its one particular Imei number, then your Efs is corrupted.
What do you mean by particular IMEI?
MY IMEI is 35884XXXXXXXXXX
And its 15 digit ... what does it mean?

Particular IMEI means the IMEI has repeating numbers. At least that's what I think.
Sent from my potato.
Nop it doesn't have any repeating numbers in it
If its from Orange then it will be locked to them. In about phone in settings are you showing a baseband version?

Backing up someone elses folder will only give you their IMEI. by doing so you will void the imei as it cant be on 2 devices. Not to mention no one is gonna give you access to their IMEI number. My suggestion would be to start over from scratch.
Try GSII Repair by helroz. If that doesn't work you will need a professional restore. Mobiletechvideos can do it for a small fee.
