On my d2tmo (sgs3) running AOKP...my storage space says total space is 12gbs and I've used about 4gbs but it says free is only 756mb ....does anybody else phone does this? Is this an aokp issue or d2tmo....I'm wondering cause I don't know if I want a 8 gbs or 16 gbs Nexus 4 and if I only issue 4 gbs then I'll get 8...
(I know system will take couple gbs of space so 8 gbs will be about 6 something)

Guys, i am having a one gb Ext 4 Partition on SD. Currently it has 800mb free. Can I use this space in emergency. As I am always living on the edge with my 8gb card. Its always about 98% full. So I always have to delete something to download something new. I think I can use this without harm via root explorer and I will try it. It might also be good for private stuff.

32 gb may get you into some performance issue 16 gb is good enough
i have a pny class 10 16 gig sdcard.. when i go into sd & phone storage it says its only 14.91 gb??? why is that??? i just downloaded the app sd tools and it says the same thing!! 14.91!!!!!!! ?????????
Formating.

I'm pretty sure you are missing space because it is necessary for an sd card that size to have in unallocated partition of about 1gb. You *might* be able to resize it. All sd cards don't allow the user to use up the amount of space they claim to have.

There is a difference between bits and bytes, when you buy something ie 16GB card you are getting 16000000000 bytes, that translates to 14.91gb. You will NEVER buy something that says x amount of GB and it show up as that amount usable
. So multiply any advertised amount by .923 and you get the usable amount

cool i thought something was up with me sdcard.. thanks for geting back
I'm too late for this but may help for future doubts. Every GB has 1024 MB and don't 1000 as we usual say, in that order, 1 MB has 1024 KB and 1 KB has 1024 B. After this short explanation we got: 16,000,000,000 B/1024(in order to get KB)= 15,625,000 KB/1024(to get MB)= 15,258 MB/1024(to get GB)= 14.90 GB you get in your card.
I was wondering why you haven't complained about the 8GB card that you got with your phone (or any other that you had before ) , lol
This makes me crazy. Why do they claim 8gb when there is not even 5gb usable? Be honest, say 5gb so we are able to gauge what we are getting. At least when you get an SD card almost all of it is there.
You forgot 2 gb internal storage for apps..yes its not full 8 gb ..its 7 point something but it never is.

It is the same reason for your hdd on your pc. The drive does have 8gb total but some of it is used up by the system's OS. Your usable space is actually 5.5gb with 1.3gb being used for apps. Any storafe medium does this. If you notoce on sd cards it may say 16gb but the user only has access to 14 gb

-sigh- because there really is 8gb of memory and they would be lying if they said 5gb. Think about it; all tech companies list the memory as the total amount of internal memory, not just available memory. If Samsung had a guilty conscience and said the galaxy player had 5gb, how could you compare to the iPod, that still said 8gb? There really is 8gb, but only 5gb available. Life tends to not be perfect.

System storage is for apps..some aps can be instaled on sd (usb) but you can move and them to system..be happy that SGP has a lot of system memory..i had phone with just 200mb of system memory and 8 gb card and that was nightmare.

but what is the different if i have 2 GB of system storage and 5 GB of usb storage?i prefer that it will be 7 GB of storage that apps will be installed because right now when i install an app it takes place in the system storage and the usb storage i think that it just make things more complicated.

Most apps can not be instaled on usb storage so you want be able to install them at all with out it ..also almost all aps have some librarys and they all go to system storage..also dalvic cache is on system storage..and every app that is on usb storage you can move it to system..just go to menage aplications in settings ..click on app and click on move to device

Just buy a 64gb MicroSD and swap the internal with the external, then you'll have 64gb for apps to be installed on.
Simple fix.

Hello
I just got the LG Optimus G AT&T, I thought the specification for phone memory is 16 GB, but it only has about 11 GB available to start with?
Is that correct? Just want to confirm.
Thank you,

WTF is in there? How can it possibly take up that much memory? That's more than a complete Windows 7 install including Office 2010 Pro Plus!

The system partition is 1.4GBs alone but there are a couple of other partitions that vary in size. A lot of the reserved space is unused.

Can it be reclaimed or do you know if there is a valid reason for the unused, reserved space? Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Not sure. I guess technically speaking Yes is could be reclaimed but I doubt it would happen. When CM 10 came out for the Captivate they kept tweaking the partition layout because at first they allowed too much space and then they changed it again to allow less space. The big problem is when they kept changing it, it would wipe the whole device including internal SD. We may see a new partition layout when CM 10.1 comes out but again I doubt it. If you download SD Maid and click Advanced on the first screen you can see a list of locations and the allotted storage for each (see screenshot).

Depends on what you install. Mine was like 9 gigs.
The storage device won't have 16GB of space anyway, not after it's formatted. You get 14.7GB. Then the stock ROM is about 1.2GB -- before installing it on the drive. The OS gets a partition of several gigabytes to reserve space and keep knuckleheads from stuffing the drive with crap.
The AT&T version comes with a blank 16GB SD card pre-installed, in addition to the 16GB of internal storage. If that's not enough space, you can buy a 64GB SD card separately.
Is that the biggest memory card you can use in OG, 64GB?
yep. havent tried a 128gb one (if they exist) but with 64gb it works fine and it's the max specified in specs.

o_o; Do people really need all that space..? I think the ~27-32 is fantastic. Hell, I was fine with 8 on my Inspire 4g. Now people are talking about 128gb? Ya'll are nuts..
Be glad you get that much. the AT&T One X only had 9.7 GB free out of the box. HTC/AT&T used up almost HALF of the storage.
Ok im having this problem where apps 2 sd doesnt want to work for me.... check this image

It's not a kernel thing. Your device has most likely has enough storage and ram to accommodate the rom, your stuff and storage for your apps. My device, GS3's and probably more really have no problem with this. My captivate on the other hand had such little ram and phone storage, the emmc chip was partitioned with 1.5gb of phone storage, 550 megs of rom storage and the rest USB(13gb or so) However moving apps also meant widgets wouldn't work. Hope this shines a little light on the situation.
