Hi all,
When I had my SGS the google Talk instant messaging service/app was so good I rarely, if ever, used texts to communicate with my partner who also had an SGS.
Now we both have SGS III's and the talk messaging functionality is a whole different league. It's unreliable, slow, goes offline/online constantly, it has become unusable.
Now when I send a talk, it can take 20-30 mins for her to get it, sometimes days! Quite often I'll go to send a talk and my phone shows as offline, even though I've been using it for other things, such as internet etc, so the phone is not in sleep mode and it has internet connectivity. However Talk takes ages to come online after I open the program.
Also the delayed Talks seem to be coming through duplicated.
I'm really missing the sturdy Talk that I used to have and now find myself eating up my monthly phone bill with more and more texts which is really disappointing.
Anybody else have this issue, if so, how can I fix my Talk?
Cheers

Clear the app data m8 that's the usual cause of that problem if your data connection is ok.
Thanks I'll give that a try.
Gtalk
I have the same problem. trued force closing and cleared app data. multiple times. the problem keeps on arising after a few hours. . .

This have been bugging me for very long. It not only affects my Google Talk, it also affects my Whatsapp, preventing them from getting messages on time.
Note that this only happens on 3G. I have no problem with Wifi.
I am able to get Google Talk / Whatsapp to push messages and get it's notification when I first booted my phone. The push stops when the phone is being idled for more than 5 to 15 minutes. I do not know why this happen, but when I look at *#*#8255#*#*, all timers listed froze and when I pressed on the "Send heartbeat to server" it does nothing (The heartbeat counter suppose to increase).
I tried to start the Google Talk app, and it started off with a fresh login (Means it logout while it was in idle state).
The two devices are, Stock DXLP9 unrooted and Lastest version of SlimROM with everything unchanged. No task manager involve on both affected devices.
I'm not sure if it's a carrier issue.
Is there anyone here that can help me solve this mystery?
I got the same problem here.
It's surelly related with some power saving thing.
I'm using WanamLite 12 with Siyah kernel 3.3.2.
My workaround was open terminal emulator and let it ping Google.com forever. It keeps the connection alive then I can receive msgs on IM+ Pro in real time.

I have tried your term emulator method and it does not work for me.
I have recently realised something that is very different that I did comparing to my friends.
They have "Automatically sign in" and "Automatic away status" checked in Google Talk.
I am currently trying this out to see if it works for me.
I will update again.
I have exactly the same problem.
I don't have a GSII, but a Sensation and a Galaxy Nexus.
After a while with screen off phone disconnect from google servers.. On galaxy nexus the bars change to grey color.
I did everithing.. nothing changed...
After Months, i get what it is the problem. The Operator..
Simply, switch from H3G, to Vodafone... The miracle happens
Google talk always connected, push notification of gmal, whatsapp and FB are instantaneous..
I found my own solution and it works for me.
I'm not sure if this works for others but here's what I've did.
Bought Tasker
Load Application GTalk, Wait 10 seconds, Go Home
Repeat this every 10 minutes.
I am not worrying at all as this consume very little battery.
I do see quite a number of wakelocks, but my battery life comparing to before has only lessen by an hour to two.
After using the method mentioned above, I now practising to switch off my phone while I'm asleep to save battery and still, my phone is able to last me through 2 full days (2x 16 hours) for my normal use as before.
Until I get S3........................
So I just need a way to tap the phone once or twice when it sits in the holster while I'm driving and call/text via voice. I really don't need all kinds of extra crap like searching and launching music players, my phone is 95% for business and I am driving most of the time while on the phone (and have no internet connection).
Is S Voice the best option? I'm fine to keep using it, but just checking if there are better alternatives. I suppose my main concern is the battery drain of S Voice but I'm not sure if that's valid, if it is a drain or not, that's just from reading anecdotal posts around here and other forums.
Thanks for any help!
When driving s voice works for me for texts and calls, though with one issue. I use a motorolla bluetooth fm transmitter and drive a noisy diesel van, so the mike has a bit of trouble picking me up perfectly. sometimes it gets it right, sometimes wrong. Though this is mostly with the message of texts. Getting the right contact or dialing the right contact seems to work ok. But it only gets the message right half the time. Just the noisy van interferring there. If I do it just with the phone it gets it right most of the time.
I haven't tried anything like vlingo with it, but really s voice is just vlingo isn't it? With my old s1 things like speaktoit, etc etc worked ok but certainly no better.
Thanks for your feedback! I suppose I am just curious about battery drain, especially since in the S Voice settings for wake up command it even says so right there (that it will cause battery drain).
I have no experience with this stuff really, but I don't think battery drain would be too much of an issue. I mean, s voice is not running spill the time. Only when you double tap the home button, or, like me, have it set to wake up on the lock screen. It doesn't seem to be running permanently in the background.

Hi!
I have a few very annoying problems I want to get rid of.
The first is that all sorts of push notifications are often (if not always) very delayed. For example, when someone's played Wordfeud and it's my turn it can take up to 20 minutes before the phone alerts me. Same thing with Whatsapp and other apps. I did a factory reset recently and the problem seemed solved but after just a few hours the delays began to appear again. Both with 3G and Wi Fi.
It is the same thing with the built in FB-chat. Sometimes messages are also delayed for up to an hour. Occationally when I enter the Message hub and swipes to Online tab the messages arrives but it's rare. It could at first appear as work when two or maximum three messages arrives but then the conversation just dies and I must go to the Facebook app to view and continue the chat. Also after the factory reset it worked somewhat fine but just like with Push notifications it didn't work long enough... Same here, both over 3G and Wi Fi.
Does anyone have a single clue of what the issue is here?
Is the phone checking for new notifications in a certain pattern, like every 30 minutes?
I'm not completely sure if this is the right forum for this but I'm beginning to be kind of desperate. Notifications on iOS and Android works like a charm and I don't think the Lumia with WP should be behind in this matter.
Extremly thankful for answers.

its not a problem of software, its a wanted feature of microsoft, wp7 doesnt have any multitastking, so if you turn of wifi and whatsapp is running, wifi is turned off for some minutes and if you turn on screen, wifi connects and whatsapp gets your messages, thats what i realized..
next phone wont be wp. :/ nice OS but the little things like this are annoying

Thanks for the reply!
But that's the strange thing, even if i don't turn off the screen and keep the phone "awake" there are no toast. The push notifications were instant for a few hours after the factory reset so there must be something that is "blocking" push messages. Same thing with the fb-chat. The chat should also work without problems even when the screen is turned off.
Me too are also considering walking out of Microsoft on this one. The OS is very beautiful and everything is so thought through but they still have som work to do.
Yes, background agents run every 30 minutes
thats why i wont buy a wp phone anymore. its really annoying and not SMARTphone like!
But shouldn't push messages be pushed through nearly instant?
it should be popup in the second it arrives
Exactly. Even if the screen is unlocked and wifi 3G is connected and all that it still is a delay.
The problem seem to have solved itself! I don't know what I've done but one morning I woke up and everything worked smoothly. Let's hope the issue doesn't return!
Data connection should be enabled for Push notifications to work. Maybe you went above your data cap or sometimes the 3G reception got lost.
Also, are you sure that app uses Push notifications and not regular Toasts sent by a background agent ?
So I've had this problem for a day and a half now, and it's really annoying. My phone is connected to a WiFi network, and yet no app has an internet connection, be it Facebook, Youtube or the Play store. The only two apps who still work somehow are Skype and Messenger (albeit not always, sometimes it takes a minute or so to send a message). I have no idea what the cause of this problem may be. I tried a few things from some Youtube tutorial, but they did not help.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 btw
Hopefully you people will have the answer
Have you removed the battery for a few minutes and then tried again?
Hello everyone,
I've been having this issue for several months now where all my social apps like messenger, instagram, whatsapp, flock, gmail and so on won't show notifications when my phone is connected to any type of wifi.
The notifications are late, or they show up when i open the app. Sometimes they repeat themselves even after i checked, like something is blocking them till some point.
I tried SO MANY things to fix this (factory reset, disable device care and any battery saving settings, reinstalled apps,...) and ended up using 4g all the time as the most solid one for the time being.
It's just very frustrating that something as simple is this is not getting fixed for a long time now.
Does anyone have similar issues? Or maybe even a fix for this? I noticed this happening to other people around me using different samsung devices.
I don't know if this is a samsung related issue or something else.
Thanks!
