I'm running jellybean (Cyanogenmod) and was wondering if there is some way to disable the home and other buttons when the input panel is out? I find myself always hitting them accidentally when typing and it is really frustrating. I have poked around in the settings and did it see anything; nor did I see any apps that do this. The only response on the forum to this question was basically 'practice typing' which is not much of an answer.

Hello all;
I have been searching and searching, but so far have not found an answer to this. I have a Verizon LTE Galaxy Tab 10.1. The issue I have is that I have a 3 year old daughter that loves to play with it. The problem is so far I have found no way to completely lock the notification bar. I have found apps that lock the back and home buttons, but not the rest of the buttons, the notifications, and more importantly the settings menu.
Here are the exact details of my hardware.
Model: SCH-I905
Build: HTJ85B.EL01.SCH-I905.EL01
Kernel: 2.6.36.4-cyanogenmod+ [email protected] #1
Does anyone know of any solution for my situation?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I assume you mean you want to let her play without the worry of her pressing and opening other apps?
(LOL, 3 year old opening and reading your mails *sarcasm*)
But yes this can be possible. I however am confused, what would you like to disable? The hardware keys or the touch keys? Don't think disabling the hardware key's is a good idea, incase the tablet hangs up. But I guess it's all based on your reply.

All I am looking to disable is the soft keys across the bottom. Currently I am running the latest released Verizon build so it has the TouchWiz skin/interface installed. I am looking to disable all the soft keys across the bottom of the UI. Most important is the pop up menu you get when pressing the clock area in the bottom right of the screen.
Thanks again.
Try the app called Hide Bar - it will completely hide the bottom system bar (not just dim like when looking at photos) and only re-appears when you use a certain gesture...
hope that works for your needs!

I searched the market for "Hide Bar" and cound not find anything that matched that name, but I did find an app called "No System Bar" and it did the trick wonderfully.
Thank you very much for the help on this one. It was driveing me nuts.

I'm really liking the Voice to Text (VTT) input that came with the ICS leak, and find that it works pretty well. The problem is that when I change to a different keyboard, the VTT changes. I've tried a couple of different keyboards, and they both seem to have different versions of the VTT.
On Swype beta, I've dug through the settings, but cannot seem to find anywhere to select which VTT system to use.
The only real issue I've got with the stock keyboard is that I would like to shorten the time before the alternate character is selected when long pressing a key.
If anyone has any ideas, or maybe another keyboard that uses the stock ICS VTT I'd appreciate it.
I've tried swiftkeyx, betterkeyboard, swype with no luck.
Another thing about the ICS leak that I've noticed is that you cannot press and hold over text and get that magnifying glass to place your cursor in a particular spot. Any fix for this?
Yeah, I'm replying to my own post...
The way to use the stock Google Voice Input when using an alternate keyboard is to pull down the notification bar when you are in a text input area. You should see a little keyboard icon up there, and when you pull it down, choose "Select Input Method" and choose "Google Voice Input". This only changes it for the time being, and doesn't change it system wide.
Now can anybody answer my other question below?

As the title states, I am looking for something that prevents the on-screen keyboard from popping up automatically, but I am not wanting to fully disable it. I only want the keyboard to appear when I tap on an input field. Some apps do this nicely as is, but a lot of apps I use have this issue of popping up the keyboard when you don't really want it.
I have searched around for a little while now, and I have found nothing. If someone could point me in the right direction, I would be greatly appreciative.
In case it matters, my current device is an HTC One M8, rooted and running Android Revolution HD 5.0, with Xposed Framework, and my main keyboard is SwiftKey.
Bump.
Hello,
I bet that I'm not the only one who has that problem and I could bet that there is somewhere already a thread about it but all I can find (here and in generall over google) is the opposite case (keyboard disappearing when it shouldn't) or tips for developers to let a keyboard disappear when the user taps on an empty space, so I already appologize but I just can't find any solution.
I have this problem for a few years now, with Googles keyboard, Swiftkey and sometimes Swype. I have it now on my Galaxy Note 4 running stock TW, I had it on my G2 (at least in ParanoidAndroid and SlimROM but I think already in stock LG ROM) and I could even bet that I had it also on my Nexus 4, so that's why I'm asking in the general android forum for help.
Sometimes, I just can't close the keyboard when I don't need it anymore. Pressing back, home or recent apps or opening the notification shade (which should be in the foreground of all for all I know) the keyboard just stays where it is. It isn't frozen, I can still use it. But it really likes to hide buttons I would need e.g. to send the text I just wrote or the buttons in the power menu so I could only press "trun off" but not "reboot" to get rid of it. I even have my back key as "kill foreground app" when double tapping on it, but it kills everything but the keyboard. It takes time and constantly pressing the different navigation keys to finally close the keyboard.
I think you can imagine how annoying that is and I'm really sick of it. It happens randomly so it's not really possible to record any log, it might be possible that XPosed could be the reason for that but I think I already had that problem already befor I installed it the first time but I'm not sure.
Does annyone has that problem too and knows how to handle it?
I've been googling and cruising a number of forums, surely there must be a logical way to get rid of this annoying thing. I am unrooted, locked BL. I have a BT keyboard. Swiftkey installed as system app by default, and I have gboard installed, too. I have an annoying keyboard shortcut of space + shift that brings up the Select input method screen. Seems it's an annoying problem, but without root no easy way to fix?
I disabled swiftkey, and I see the keyboard shortcut helper lists the shift + space shortcut, but there's no way to disable or change it to something else.
Has anyone else with a BT keyboard encountered and solved this? Maybe it's my ebay keyboard and some brief lag that interprets capital letters as my sending the space + shift shortcut. It's nearly impossible to take notes with this thing because the input menu pops up every 10 seconds or so. I'll be travelling to the mainland later this week and would love to find a way to fix this because I want to use the tablet and keyboard to take notes at a conference.
Thank you very much for any help you may have. I thought every answer was on google, but this one is not popping up....
