Hi there,
I've got a problem with the camera flash LED for a few days : it is always on !
Even when I power down the phone, the LED is glowing with low intensity.
Only when I remove the battery is the LED off... And as soon as I put the battery in place the LED is on again.
I'm afraid this will kill my autonmy
Does anyone has already had this behavior ?
Any ideas on what could cause this ?
The phone is a i9100G with samsung ICS 4.0.2 ...
thanks for any response

And have you actually tried anything to solve it yet like changing kernel or rom?

I turned the phone on/off
Took the battery off
Installed a couple of software which claimed to manage the camera flash
I hard reset the phone
Flashed 4.0.4 rom instead of 2.3.6 it originally had
I wouldn't post here if I had not made extensive search beforehand.
It doesn't look like a software problem, I read somewhere that it might have happened because of humidity...
No luck with this issue.
It must be hardware related since even when the phone is turned off, the LED shines as soon as you put battery in place.
Humidity might be a cause, or a very minor hardware defect that causes some power to leak onto the wrong circuit, since LEDs consume very little power.
Maybe we should try to drown our phone inside a sack of salt or rice to dry it out ?

Hmm.. Yeah sack of rice would be a good idea to get the phone completely dry, but salt no.. Because it increases conductivity with water and people are again prone to get into humid wet situations and increased conductivity within phone circuitry = phone going KABOOM, well that's an exaggeration anyway a lot more salt will remain in your phone than rice.. duh! SO using salt can be a lil damaging(or sometimes a lot-what if you dropped your salt dried phone in a puddle or something... :-\ yeah you can be sure about having fried motherboard for breakfast).

Yep. Humidity might have damaged something & it's causing a short or similar.
Salt ??!! Do a Google Images search for 'salt corroded metal' & you'll understand why that's not a good idea
Rice, for a week. And no using the phone at all during that time. Not even to boot it for a minute. Take the battery out, put it in, bury it & leave it.

Here is my short story:
I lost my phone in the garden, after 3 days of searching and as the snow melted, i saw it lying on the ground, unfortunately turned off. Dont think this happend because of low battery rather than because of the water.
After i found it, i immediately dissassembled it without turning on and now its drying..i will wait for some days, until i can get some isopropanol(97% alcohol or so).
The water-indicator is lilac, not shure, but this means damaged by water, right?
So now here are my questions..is there even a chance that the isopropanol might help?..because the phone was turned on as i lost it, and i think it stopped working due to the water, not because of low battery..so is it already to late? Does this method only help if the phone is still working?
And which parts should be bathed in isopropanol ? E.g. is it bad for the camera, the microphones, the screen and the speakers, as i have read somewhere?
And if for example the screen would be damaged, would it be bad for the logicboard, too, if i reassemble it again and test it then?
And is there any possibility i can find out which part is defect, if it won´t work at all?
Are there any other options left for me?
hope this doesnt happen to anyone else
greets, electro
I would guess your screwed mate. My girls phone was dropped in water for less than 2 seconds and it killed. You are stuffed as soon as it turns off because something has shorted

Weird... I've gotten lots of rain onto my phone, and no damage at all... But of course that's not the same as dropping it in the snow...
Sadly there is no 100% solution for water damage. My dad once in a while will give a bath to his phones and the best solution I have found is to put the phone in a plastic bag full of rice and leave it there for as long as you can.
Of 3 phones 2 of them were saved using this method (one of them was saved multiple times).
Good luck.

Where these phones still turned on as they got wet and you took them out of the water? Or had they turned off theirselves already?
Which parts of the phone should be bathed?
Thanks guys for your hope
Put it in a bowl of rice for a few days to let it dry out and see what happens.

It's worked for my old N73, but don't know will it work for GS2. but you can still try it
Just the board. If you drop the phone in it, it will damage other components. Then get a tooth brush and gently clean the board while alcohol is on it. Then check the battery for corrosion on the contacts to see if its fried. If so get a new one soon

keep it away from mics. clean gently as above mentioned with a medium toothbrush. clean all the board but also clean the connectors such as the connector of lcd both on logic board and lcd itself. clean also all gold contacts such as antenna contacts, buzzer contacts ands earpiece contacts.
isopropanol should be sold on every pharmacy. and if you can find glass fiber sticks to clean gold plated contacts as i mentioned above only if they are corroded.
I have dissassembled my device to the logicboard+camera, there are no mics on it anymore, only problem might be the camera connected to it.
The rest of the phone(display, which is glued to the fronthousing i think, usb-connector, and speakers)is still in the front housing.
I´m on step 6 in ifixit.com teardown, only with camera still connected, if you want to see pics.(sry cant post links)
Everything is covered in rice for 24h now
Would it be okay for the camera to be bathed in alcohol? Because the camera is still connected to the logicboard, and i am not shure whether i should dare disconnecting it..its a very thin connector..??
Did anybody revive his device, which was already turned off because of the water damage? Is this even possible in theory, if the device already shut down itself?
I dont get my hopes up to high
But thanks all for your help mates

Usually the water will only freeze the phone and will remain on until you take the battery out or the battery power is depleted.
Just take it apart and put it in the bag of rice and forget abut it for a couple of days (*you should have already done this by now*).
As for the alcohol cleaning I'v never done that. The idea of the alcohol is to prevent rust but the rice will remove all humidity out of the phone.
Ok so after 4 days of drying, it now shows a triangle and a battery symbole.
Better than nothing i suppose, at least the screen seems to be working
Does anybody know what that symbole means? Is just the battery faulty(my hope)?
Battery or USB plug problem.
Try other battery, if that doesn't help, get new usb board thingy from ebay

Great news! I had the chance to try a battery from a friend, and it worked!!
Already ordered a new one, although I am not sure, maybe the voltage from the old one is just too low and recharging would solve the problem, but dont want to risk anything
Thanks for your responses all
I probably too late but no dont put the camera in alcohol

Nice save!!
MY friend have (i9100) he dropped it in the water & then he dried it 100% then when he turn his phone on the phone is in air plain mod he try to change it but no use but every thing else is ok
what to do ?
what i think that it will solve it is format but i didn't try it
Sorry bad english
Take the battery out. Put the phone in a bag of rice for a week. A whole week. Do not touch the phone during that week. Not even once. Turning the phone on so soon after being immersed in water probably killed any chance of saving it.
And besides, it's a hardware issue anyway. Beyond what I've told you, what do you expect people here to say ? We can't magically fix hardware problems here. A 'format' isn't going to make any difference whatsoever if components have been water damaged (which sounds likely).
i did what you said when it got dropped in the water
he thought that it is software problem so i will do what is possible
Take out battery and put mobile and battery in front of sun for 10-15 mins. May be water damaged the network circut.
Hope it helps.

Hi
today my phone (galaxy I777) got wet in a stupid way (don't ask how) and the water wasn't clean it had some salt and some other stuff, I got it dry and it works very good but when i want to charge it it says " Charging paused. Battery temperature is too low" like -20
any idea what's the cuse?
Water damage in the charging circuitry?
Or maybe hidden moisture that isn't removed?

Water can play havoc with electronics, especially micro-electronics. Even more so if there is a corrosive substance present such as you mentioned. Depending on the circumstances, you may be lucky that you have a working phone, even though it won't charge the battery.
There could be hidden water even though you took the phone apart and cleaned it. You should completely dessicate the phone. Some people put the phone in a bowl of rice for a few days, but I don't know how effective that is. If you use heat, it must be very gentle.
If there is damage to the circuitry, there is nothing you can do except maybe send it to Samsung for repair.

I believe it is called a Charging and USB Control Chip.
Hi guys.
My s3 fell on the water, I dry it but now any sim card is not recognized and the imei shows as null/null and the baseband is unknown. I cannot send it to warranty since it fell on water. Is there anything I can do?
I read that flashing the perseu kernel could help, is that true?
Thanks in advance for your help
first try to factory reset the phone . if you want to flash something try flashing a stock rom. I don't know if perseus kernel can help . good luck
If the only trigger for this event is water exposure, flashing nothing will help. If baseband and imei showed null only after this event, well that's that.
The only way of getting a phone operational after swimming (which is not always successful...
1) remove battery immediately. Do NOT power on
2) submerge immediately in a bag of uncooked rice (48-72hr minimum)
Any powering up before the end of the 48-72 hours will render this "trick" useless. Any heat will too.
Rice absorbs moisture. Heat evaporates water. Rice draws it out. Steam spreads it. Also, powering up causes heat.
Water is very corrosive so once components are identified as not working, chances are, they'll never work again. Even the rice trick, you need to be extremely lucky for it to work

I've read that the guys who unlock phones and have proper "box" to do it can also repair the imei and base band problem. Just like samsung, but way cheaper. Is this true?

Yes, true when the issue is caused by a software fault. Your issue is a hardware fault caused by water. No amount of boxes can fix a software issue that results from hardware failure. The software itself in your case is fine, so there is nothing for them to do with this box.
Hello to everyone, a few days ago my watch started shutting down after a while, sometimes write after boot and sometimes after 5 or 10 minutes or so. I tried reverting to stock settings (factory reset) also sync it with a new account from other phone, I even installed Everest Rom and still it shuts down after a few minutes. Also sometimes it gets very hot, all over the watch not only at the bottom or the front glass.
The watch is in my possession for around 1,5 year and it is the international version.
Same behavior, is the result of water geting in...
How is that possible , it is water resistant!?
Did you open it easily?

It was used a year, never taken off the hand unless charging., so it got into sea swiming, hot showers/baths, everything, and i did not kept it in clean water for 10 min, or what the manual says... . So all that chemicals and salt afected the seals ...
It was opened by the service guys, i sent it for waranty, which they ofcourse void it (apparantely no device is covered by waranty if liquides get inside them ... ?!?)
I will try to test if is fixable by my self.... with no water resistance...
Thank you my friend for your time and answers, I will try to open it and see if this is wrong with my watch too. Last year after every swim I did clean it up but this year I never did so maybe this is what happened to mine also.
My problem was not from getting water in

Can't really tell from the image, but it looks like there is some corosion/oxidation on the capacitors near the sensor ? (seems like some green/blue colored contacts). If so, maybe try to gentaly clean it, it could make electrical contact between components that should not be in contact.
Also look at the battery and see if there is any visible damage to it
... my battery is 0 volts, and a little puffy, i will try to see if it takes charge.
If yours got extremely hot as mine did, pls consider the safty issues of the situation

I think you are wright my friend, I 'll get back home and see it more closely and try to clean it up and see if that helps.
Well you were wright about sensor
I tried to clean as good as I could but with no luck , I also checked the battery and it seemed ok to me.
Then I decided to cut the sensor power by cutting the cable that connects to it and then booted up the watch and everything is working fine ,no shutdowns, no overheating problems and no battery consumption at all. I guess that the sensor is no longer working at all and it isn't anymore waterproof but at least I have a fully functional watch until i decide what to do. Thanks again for pointing out the corrosion-oxidation of the sensor. The only thing I cannot comprehend is how did that happen to the sensor capacitors, since there where no moisture inside the watch!?!?
Thanks again my friend!
