I configured my phone with Gmail out of the box, it functioned perfect for a few weeks, and now for some reason it will check and download my email, but will error when trying to send any emails.
Any idea why this could be?
Yah, that's happened to me too, I just deleted that gmail account, made another one that checks the same account, and it worked again...kinda annoying, but it's a 2 min process.

I have seen so many repoorts of this over at PPCG and from firends of mine with the TP.
Maybe a GMAIL issue? Not sure but your not alone.
i've tried remaking the account on the phone to no avail. good to know at least I'm not alone!
I started seeing this problem with IMAP servers on WM 6.1, have compiled some info on it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=374663
I haven't had to recreate any mail accounts after applying the MS WM 6.1 patch linked in that thread. A soft reset is all that's been needed since.
I've got my fingers crossed for WM 6.5 to be a real fix. I'd like to give that 5.2.21014 a try too if it ever comes around again...
go to mail2web.com create a free account (Exchange Support)
go to Gmail settings forward ur gmail incoming mail to [email protected]
now setup push e-mail on ur phone through active sync
ull get the e-mail within 5 seconds of it being received, and u'll save some battery juice cuz ur phone is not checking for new e-mails every now and then.
IMHO it works flawlessly, i have my hotmail and gmail going through push, as u can forward as many e-mail accounts as u want
MOE
As it turns out a second soft reset and delete>remake the account on the phone got my email working again.
Alright, in the past few days, I have been running into the same issue. An issue I have never had before.
When I try to sync my Facebook Contacts it is able to sync my calendar, but after trying to sync my contacts it says:
"Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly."
This only happens with MY account. I put in my sister's and dad's accounts, and they synced up perfectly.
I have never had this issue before.
I have tried EVERYTHING in the book to solve it.
This problem occurs on any ROM I use (Froyo and Eclair, but I am currently on Macnut). I have ODINed to stock, and the problem is still there, even on bone stock.
I tried going onto my account and uninstalling the Samsung Mobile application and the Facebook for Android Application, ODINed to stock, tried logging in/syncing but I still received the "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will
be back shortly."
I tried deactivating my account and reactivating, changing my password, my email - still no change.
When I go to my contacts, the activities feed of my Facebook shows up perfectly, with pictures an all.
This thing is stumping me big time. My FB contacts are vital to me, and it's bothering the **** out of me.
Anyone have words of enlightenment?
Come on help me out here guys.

Lemme get this straight, you're using the built in facebook contacts thing right? From contacts > updates which will prompt you to log in?
If its not working try deleting your account off of it and putting it back in
Of course could be a sever issue as well

good to know i'm not the only one!
First off, I am running Synergy Rom on my thunderbolt, and love it. I have noticed that I can send and receive emails fine on Gmail, but my other email will only receive. I have reflashed the ROM tried various different email apps from the market, and redownloaded the ROM and flashed it. My email works fine on every other ROM I've used, so I know I have my smtp server info right. I tried searching for this answer but nothing that helped me came up. I read through several pages of the synergy Rom thread, but don't have time to read all 487 pages. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it. I would like to stay with synergy if I can get my email to work.
You are not using POP3 mail with RoadRunner are you? I had same problem and needed to use different settings for outgoing server to send but could receive fine.

So my problem is simple.
When I upgraded to latest official ICS ROM (I had to use Odin) I have this connection error in the stock e-mail client.
I'm using an Exchange 2010 server, I've removed account, and added it again, it did sync and retrieve new e-mail for about an hour, but suddenly it stopped working. It keeps coming back with the connection error...
Can any-one please help me?

It's already done syncing... yesterday (when the trouble started) it synced very slowly.. Let's see if it stays like this now...

did not work, it synced some emails and then stopped with connection error
i use exchange 2003, samsung galaxy s2 ics 4.0.3
any suggestions ?
thank you
addition:
--------
bow, after a few hours it did sync, VERY slow and when reading the mail the sync back to mark as read either not done or will also take hours...
where is the problem ?
i can avoid thinking of going back to 2.3.6 as this version really sucks.. it has so many problems.
same here
Hello,
Same problem here, on Android 2.3.3 no exchange sync problem, after update ti 4.0.3 connection error ...
Samsung Galaxy S II (Black) - Android 4.0.3
So I haven't had any problems since my last post until now :S
About an hour ago it synced an SMS messages over 3G, when I came home, I received an e-mail on my Outlook client and tablet at the same time, so I kept looking to my Galaxy.... nothing!
It's not my exchange server (2010 SP2), everything, including my tablet on android 4.03 using the ASUS client work perfectly fine...
Using POP3 or IMAP is not an option, even not as a temp workaround... I really need the activesync :S
it's a "known" defect affecting some Exchange accounts (f.e. google mail's ActiveSync): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1545986
there are some people that claim they could get it to work by changing some settings, but that only helps for some exchange servers. the ASOP 4.0.4 exchange service & mail client seems to work tho.

The last post on page 10 of that topic seems like a working solution... To bad i don't have the time to root my phone and try it atm...
So replacing the e-mail and exchange apk's made it even worse for me... now I can't even start the mail app anymore
Issues with Exchange and other syncing with ICS
After reading lots of post and trying to resolve issues I believe I have resolved my issues using pop & Exchange accounts.
Try the following:
1. Edit every email account to the lowest retrevial size for emails.
and leave whatever email accounts you have setup as is.
2. Turn your phone off, do not restart.
3. Hold down the home button and press the power on button, keeping the button held down until you are at the full menu screen or pin code for your sim.
4. The if phone doesnt refresh, go to email settings and refresh each individual email account. Mine did automatically.
Hope this helps all the poor suckers out there that have spent hours on their phone trying to resolve issues rather than being the guinea pigs Samsung has made of us!
Good luck & god bless.
Liz
This doesn't work either...
Samsung has to fix this very soon... Some people try to use this thing for business, and the exchange feature is one of the most important features imo... I have to have a fix soon becaus this is soo ... annoying
I guess I have a good temporary fix, by setting the retrieval size to headers only it seems to work fine....
I am having same problem on galaxy s2. Recently upgraded to 4.0.3.
It syncs sometimes with exchange 2010 but most of the times it gives error as
'Connection error '. I have tried everything that you guys suggested. Nothing seems to work.
please help!!
Hope it help to solve
Changing the maximum email size to '100KB' from 'All' also solved my problem.
It Solves the problem for some time. When I reduced to size to Minimum, it worked for 3-4 days just fine. Altough 'Connection Error' Again started coming.
It stayed like that for couple of more days and exchange started working again.
Just to make it clear, our exchange is working fine since all others are getting updates.
Really strange!!!
Email client started working
Hi guys.
I updated to 4.0.4 on my skyrocket yesterday and faced this issue till today morning. Just while being in the email app.. go to the settings of FONT. It has not been selected and hence we do not see our mails.
Select any size.. and voila the mail appears.
I recently solved a real pain of an email issue I was having, and wanted to pass along the experience. I had tried searching these forums for several days, but didn't quite find my problem, and didn't find the solution all in one place. With that in mind, I'm hoping this information helps someone, even if a bit of it may be covered in other threads (sorry if so).
I had upgraded recently to JB 4.1.1, and was having a lot of problems getting my corporate/exchange email account to work. The calendar and contacts would work sometimes, and the email never got past the "waiting for sync" screen. Anytime the calendar and contacts would work, they would break after a reboot of the phone.
I also found that sometimes exchange account would stick around after it stopped working, and other times it would disappear (from the Android settings > accounts list) completely. I had set the accounts up both through the stock email app, and through a third - party email app (Enhanced Email, a good app).
I tried deleting and recreating the accounts, with varying settings (port numbers, accepting all security certificates, etc.). Later on, I went to my company's online web access for Exchange, and deleted all the mobile connections so that it would create a new connection for my current phone and ROM. I recreated the account (for what seemed like the 50th time) after that. Still no good.
The thing that made the difference: I finally read a tip somewhere to force stop the (stock) email client, and clear its cache and data. After that, the email app needed to be set up again, but email synched for the first time since I installed this ROM, and my calendar and contacts work reliably. It's been several days and reboots, and no further problems have come up.
I hope this helps someone, and again, apologies if the information is duplicative. I couldn't find it all in one place, and was really beating my head against the wall trying to find a fix.

Hi there, I think im glad i found this thread although not sure it will help with my corporate mail problem. My problem exists only with contacts not syncing from my corporate exchange account. My mail and calendar is ok just no contacts sync.
You mention to force stop the stock email client, can you advise the steps and exact name of the process? Do you mean in manage apps - All - Email ? I cant seem to stop that process its all greyed out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, due to my role i really need my exchange contacts to sync.
Cheers,
Hi guys,
My experience is different.
If you have problems to sync your email you need to clear all previous mobile connections from outlook (via outlook web access) and set up your account from zero on the device.
Quick question why do you use a third party email client? Do you have Samsung device? Got the same problem and had to move to a asop (CM10)
Samsung email client and exchange doesn't work well since the original Galaxy.

solution for me
For me what solved was a solution I found in another post here in the forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774978&page=2
In summary:
"Settings --> Data Usage --> Menu --> and check Auto Sync Data
Try setting up Exchange account again and you'll see the prompt to activate a Device Administrator this time. "
