Yes, try OptiMax2 with sirkays kernel (im on vdsirotkin kernel, battery is more important to me)
Very fast (4300 antutu benchmark 1.4 ghz overclocked), very stable and stylish.

I need mine working 100% these days as I use it for work - I just went for stock .587, rooted and ripped all the bloatware out, and it's ready to go 100% stable. Not exactly adventurous... but it works really nicely.

Sure, latest stock is well polished and stable.
But Sony doesnt have reason to give us maximum in midrange phones (in their firmwares).
Developers have reasons to do that.
Thats why we have plenty of roms better than stock.

OptiMax is a good ICS rom. Its a fight between that and Jellysandwich
Jelly bean roms are pretty damn good too. Pacman(for a bit extra custom) or CM10

I would definently go with CM10.
After experiencing CM10, when you go on GB and ICS roms you will just feel like something is missing. I can't describe it but there's something.
And without doubt CM10 gives the smoothest and most user friendly experience.
Also to all you PAC fans out there, I did try all of the ROMs since v13 (inc. v17), but they are just never provided the same as CM10 did to me.
But choose for yourself if you have time. Try CM10, Forsaken's GB ROM, OptiMax, PAC, AOKP, JellySandwich, Ultimate HD (in that order)

Though PAC has CM10 built into it. But I am kinda with you on that one. It just doesn't seem as smooth as CM10 alone.

If you are a gamer (like me) I don't really recommend ICS or Jelly Bean Roms. There are many apps and games that are incompatible. I haven't tested a Jelly Bean rom but I think CM10 is under development, I already tried CM9 and I have to say the UI is very nice, but I had problems with many games and apps and I don't have this problem with CM7 (Gingerbread). So I think CM 7.2 is the best Rom right now, but that's my opinion, haven't tried other roms, only CyanogenMod, but is really good.

Why is everyone recommending CM10?
Maybe i am doing something wrong, but for me it is sluggish like hell 3 out of 10 times i am using my phone. Unlocking, using the launcher, using the settings...
It seems to stable, but that alone does not win the game.
Stable + snappy: nxt bread (odexed version) and fosakengb.
Both are stock based GB ROMs and i only miss some convenience functions, like accessing the notification bar from the lockscreen.
If you ever used an iPhone or Windows Phone, it seems GB is the way to go. ICS and JB ROMs are just not there, when it comes to user experience. But they are feature rich.

Re. ICS & JellyBean.. Well, the ROM I'm currently using is Iced Bean - I seriously disliked all ICS ROMS till I found this one! The most elegant, snappy and stable ICS ROM I've used so far!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1911165
For Gingerbread I'd recommend JellyBread - hands-down my favourite GB ROM. Fast and pretty & lean and mean!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1834106
PS Both of these ROMS will also work on loocked bootloaders. :good:

Thanks Everyone!
So i think CM10 have more fans.
ok, I'll go for it. They're showing 2 days left for a new release, so i'll wait for it
And can anyone help me for a Question? On Cyanogenmod's website, I went to see the Project status and saw "ST18(i/a) - Ray - urushi - CM9 done / CM10 done"
Does that mean everything is working on CM10? everything?

definitely try P.A.C rom . For me the best JB ROM for RAY :good:

After trying several ICS roms I've gone back to GB. I found that the ray just doesn't have the specs to run ICS as it should be. For a simple fast GB rom I'd suggest trying 4pda.ru stock repack rom with Aires kernal. It's a no nonsense rom so you can add the mods yet want. And you get the stability of stock.

Try JB rom for RAY and you never gonna back to GB or ICS ...

I don't even get how people can recommend CM10 when P.A.C. is basically the same, but without all the "non-working" stuff. I usually love CM and nothing would have been possible on JB roms without them, but clearly at this point PAC is completely far ahead, meanwhile including all the CM engine and rom modifications as well as OAKP.

[Q] Custom ROMS vs Stock

Do all Custom ROMS for all the positive features they may bring always result in less stabililty than a Stock ROM?
I imagine CM7 to be the best....seeing as he works for Samsung also. I certainly found it the best when I had the I9000/Galaxy. However looking at the CyanogenMod forum there are plenty of people raising issues with the builds (including 'stable' builds).
I really enjoy trying different ROMS usually but I am deliberately sticking with a rooted stock at the moment - and it has never froze, crashed or rebooted itself yet! I do miss fiddling with my phone though!
Thoughts/opinions appreciated.

Yes.

If you want a stable rom, then use the one in my sig. Oxygen is amongst the most stable roms that are out here. It's almost bugfree, because the creater of the rom, Adam G is a perfectionist.
You have no touchwhizz, just stock android that works. If you are looking for a shiny rom, then this one is not for you. If you want a stable rom and an almost bug free rom, then this one is for you.
ps you won't find this rom on xda, because he does not want that anymore.
Samsung Galaxy SII
try this combination...
*CheckROM Revolution HD v3.1.1 (fast and lite)
*Speedmod-kernel-s2-k2-18-test8-CWM.zip (best battery life)

It depends really with locked bootloader I would go with xperia x10s or feralabs and donut HD is very stable! But if you plan on unlocking your bootloader the list goes on! I would recommend oodies miui rom

I was been on Dixperia 7 avenger for a while until I went to FXP115 CM7.2.0.
Dixperia 7 is a smooth, fast, stable and good looking version of the stock factory rom.
I wouldnt give CM7 to my Mum coz it has heaps of very customisable settings under the the hood and if She started poking around in there things could get ugly pretty quickly
Choices for my Mum would be...
Dixperia 7 avenger
T.E.A.M Transparent
DonutHD2.2

Imo most stable is currently DiXperia 7 (which i'm using right now), it's clean very fast, include alot of xperia S apps, simple theme etc.. And DonutHD is also very nice, it's bugfree, fast, & ICS themed.
Quick question about Dixperia 7... Am correct in assuming you have to download and install a LOT op different stuff? I saw that there is the rom, and then after that you have to install some kind of facebook, a browser, an app for this, an app for that... Isn't that a lot of extra work? Or is there a cersion where all of that stuff is already included in the Rom? In my case, the extra installing would prevent me from using the Rom as it seems like a lot more wok then other Roms that are already complete? Or am I mistaking?
My ROM has additional downloads in single addons/files, cause not all people using the same stuff, so after install my ROM, you just apply those files you need - it makes you more being yourself, cause you don't need delete tons of non-using apps. Of course decision depends of you - I can't tell you which ROM is the best, cause I'm not flashoholic, and I am Dev - every Dev prompting for his system, am I right ? Cheers.

[Q] Fastest JB ROM?

Hi.
Since I tested Jelly Bean on my x10 I just feel I can't go back to GB or even ICS, because it's beautiful and I don't really care about leaking features (such as camcoder).
The problem is that some of these ROMs are slow and laggy, so right now I'm using the lastest version of PAC-man ROM with stock CMX10 kernel.
I've been using slimbean and it was pretty fast and stable, but since now it's a bit outdated, I had to change to PACman.
So, I've been doing some research and I've seen that now there are some good ROMs such as FeraLab JB, Xperia x10z, Xperia x10Z HD lite, etc.
Which of the updated JB ROMs is the fastest in your opinion? If you want to recommend me another kernel or patch (like seeder or something like that), you are free to do it. :good:

[Q] Which ROM? For Xperia U

Hello,
I have used mostly stock roms on my Xperia U. GB, ICS. Got fed up with stock ICS being laggy & then shifted to GB V3 ROM (Custom rom based on GB) & yesterday I've installed Unofficial Stock JB ROM 4.1.2 V4.
Is there any ROM which is fast like GB & also looks beautiful like JB does? Pls suggest. I need a regular driver, can't change around ROMs & testing them cos I have only one mobile. I was actually very happy with GB Rocks V3 but then I Stumbled upon JB & now my mind doesn't want to go back to GB at all. JB's looks & features are very beautiful & elegant. But the rom is painfully slow, doesn't allow any type of multi tasking what so ever. It has to be bare minimum, even then basic features such as dialer pad, takes ages sometimes to open.
Pls suggest a ROM which has got looks & is worthy of being a daily driver.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers!

I think the choice of a ROM is like color preferences, anyone will say their is better, but you still like blue/red/green/yellow/magenta/cyan/WTF
So, here is my opinion:
I usually change a little of ROMs, been using thru a couple of weeks GB-ROCKS (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2139840) when I had locked bl. Then, like some, I really preffer the looks of ICS or JB. Tried some and stuck for some weeks with Terra v5 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141726) - It's ICS, fast, stable, fast gps lock, no 3g issues of any kind, but its camera was a little laggy, I didn't like much.
Unlocked my bl and tried some other ROMs for a bit.
Now, i'm using CM9 by FXP, ver 216. It's quite fast, but I think the batteries doesn't last so long as Terra. Anyway, it's a good ROM and under development yet.
I'm always eager to try any other ROMs, but for now I'm sticking with CM9. Also, if you want a good looking ROM, you should try Ligux (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2055679&highlight=ligux). It's CM9 based, but with some tweaks that make it a little prettier. But I don't think it's as developed as CM9 anyway.
Thanks guys.
I have found my daily driver. It's CM9, no word for it. It's awesome.
Cheers!!!
So are we thinking cm9 is better than gb rocks? If so... Why?

No one can recommend roms... Everyone has their own taste and different needs... It's good you tried a lot of roms but in the end its what you feel about the Rom that matters not others recommendations...

I've tried many ICS based JB roms and let me say that since Super JellyBean 5.5 was released it is by far the smoothest and the fastest. I also tried Legacy Xperia CM recently and it seemed quite fast and smooth but I couldn't get the Wifi working. Maybe you'll have a better luck.
For some reason I am only limited to non-AROMA based roms (All of them eventually bootloop on my phone)
And let me pay my respects to the Developer of Super JB. Be very careful with improving it.
Sent from my Xperia Neo using xda app-developers app
since you try a lot rom already you probably know which rom suited your need
all roms are great and they have their ups and downs
CM7.2, X-GAMER and Codename are great GB rom
CM9, Ultimate HD, and Ice Cream Pureness are great ICS rom
CM10, Super Jelly Bean and Racing Bean are great JB rom
other roms are great too. i only listed the ones i have tried.
there are a lot more great roms out there left for you to discover.
I would also recommend CM10.1 from LegacyXperia project. Latest builds are very stable and brings you JB 4.2.2 with 3.4 kernel.
Try to use zelly cream by gagan HD stable and option of gaming and battery life both

I'm not talking about CyanogenMod or any based on this...
GB & ICS got well working camera.
I like JB, but SONY won't release source of libraries, so you are able to use only 480p. :<
I'm Using Legacy Xperia is super stable, one reboot in two weeks if you use the app Greenify becomes perfect.

I've tried with a LOT of Roms and I Stay in CM10 Based, CM10.1 and CM10.2 dont have a good battery life and I wait for 1st Build of CM11 to test!
listen up. i use Gin2jellybean for more that 3 months. i stable and very light. only 100-110 mb ram is used and you have alot of free. i reccomend you to flash 2.5.2 version. first install 2.4.0 and patch with 2.5.2. use stock kernels if you wand best battery. if u need gaming perfomance use night elef 10.1 LITE. in my opinion is better for all other versions. You will not regert for this roms
i only recommend kitkat maybe it is in alpha stage ... I'm stunned by seeing the performance of kitkat, seeing the same performance as gingerbread with all brand new features .. long live xperia 2011
in GB you can use...anything
and in JB 4.1.2 & 4.2.x you can use PAC-man the famous AIO rom.....
you will be amazed...
In my opinion, the best ROM is GB, it is the best for gaming, battery life and stability.
ICS is the worst ROM ever.
JB Rom is very good but unfortunately not stable yet.
The Developers now are working on KitKat 4.4.1 which is in the Alpha 2 phase but I expect It is going to be the best when they reach the stable version.
For nice rom and for 100% stable running get GB rom, try Gin2JellyBean, the new version is 3.0.0 witch is Gin2KitKat. its GB rom themed as kitkat.
if you want latest kitkat alpha build 2, get if from my signature.
its alpha, so expect bug here and there. no fm radio, no hd videos recording, no hdmi, camera pictures are worse than any stock rom.
but then, its kitkat 4.4.1 soom in few days there will be 4.4.2 also.
jb
jellybean cm10 works fine
