Help please - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I bought my wife a S2 i777. I rooted it with no problem. I downloaded ROM manager and went to do a back up. And poof the phone went to do the backup and then has died. The phone went to a black screen and will not boot up. The screen flashes but nothing. I am not sure what to do.
Thanks

We all want to help but since you're the owner and carry the device, it makes sense that you should do it yourself.
Try to enter "download mode", "recovery mode", using jig, ................ How to do that? Read the stickies as I can't remember on top of my head. I will post the links if I stumble across.
Also, next time, pls do read, prepare and understand things before you proceed further.
If you've read enough, you would know you shouldn't use ROM manager at all.

I thought we were finally done with these.

You are correct I did not read enough. I can't even get the phone to boot up. The screen just flashes. Sorry

Try going into download mode. Try with a different battery. Try charging the battery with a charger. You bought the phone new? You can try and see if you can get a replacement phone. Tell them that it just died on you and wont turn back on.

Thanks how do I get it on download mode. Sorry I have been using rom manager for a long time on several other phones. I did not even look on here first before I installed. :crying:

How about googling the simple answers for a change? Try: "sgh i777 enter download mode".

Move this to general questions.
Ps. U can always restore with odin. Through download mode
First pay electric bill, 2nd flash bk to stock, from there do what you want.
I had a similar problem where in the middle of an ODIN flash I lost connection. First off, try just holding power and see what happens. If you at least get a response, then you're definitely not bricked. Try holding down power at the same time as volume up and down. If that doesn't work, or if holding the power button has no effect at all (that's how it was on my phone, the power button did not cause the screen to so much as flicker) then try this. Unplug the phone and pull the battery. Put the battery back, and then while holding volume up and down plug the phone into the computer. If you're not bricked then that should get you into download mode
It's futile everyone telling that this is in the wrong section, if he is unwilling to look for a solution himself and being spoon fed answers in the incorrect section, what motivation does he have to actually try to help himself or post in the right section?

When you can, pulle the battery, place it back in, put the usb from your pc into your phone and your screen should show a pc to phone error type message...that's because the process stopped in the middle... now press and hold up/down with the power button until that pc to phone goes away and soon as it goes away, let go power..don't let go the up/down toggles. Download mode should appear. Now close odin, open it back up, remove the usb cable from the phone and place it back in and now you should see the yellow connection sign in odin and you are good.

Like I already said, that exact same thing happened to me. Pull the battery then put it back in. While holding down volume up and down, plug the phone into USB. This should bypass the power button and cause your phone to boot into download mode

Thanx for your help man, but before I post this thread I do everything you and the other guys are telling me. I read the Bible and nothing works..
1st you want to download kies here
Then put your phone in to Stock upload mode by removing the sim and battery and booting with both volume buttons down (do this while the phone is plugged in to your PC)
Once that is done drive to a t-mobile store and see if they will give you a new one...
lol
Wrong section, and search is your friend.

Maybe Try the jig
Not sure I know enough about the real issue other than you got the wrong rom. But, there is a jig you can make 301k resistor (or combo of a few to equal that number) soldered to a usb connector on # 4 & 5 pins look it up it will unbrick the phone and get you into the phone from there I not sure what you will need to do next but that would get you into the phone. Btw the resistors and usb cord less than 5 bucks good luck
Dude, you are being childish. I usually never flame but don't say you did because you didn't Enough. Slow down and take your time. If you are doing any kind of mods you should learn how to use Odin first, but unfortunately its always after the fact.
Learn how to use Odin, in the development bible I have a video there to show you how. Doesn't get any easier than that.

You are completely right. I was "trigger happy" you may say and I did it by rushing through it and ruined my phone. Luckily I have not yet sold my 3Gs and could use that until I get tmobile to exchange it.
The jig would most likely work for my case but I would need a step by step guide which unfortunately didn't find with images or video.
If I could just kill the AT&T boot logo it'd be perfect but sadly I can't.
I got the phone two days ago..so I am really sure I can get away with an exchange.
If you return the phone and it is booting with the At&t logo they will now you where messing with it and charge you the full amount of the phone which is around $400.
What you have is a soft brick. You can fix it if you bothered reading. Just follow this:

I wish mine was a soft brick but it isn't. That thread was for "phone ! PC" mine is a tmo vibrant that boot loops as AT&T captive since I flashed the wrong stock kernel.
Remove battery, SIM card and the external SD card.
Connect USB cord
Hold down both volume keys and insert the battery.
I love how everyone gives the same reply. The phone WAS FULLY BRICKED.
I took it to T-Mobile and said I did an update and this is what happened and they gave me a brand spanking new one! =D
Thanks for all your help though.

[Q] Just another bootloop, but on a stock rom.

I googled for hours, and now i give up and ask here what to do.
My friends brought two Galaxy Ace s5830i from UAE. One works good, the other one not. Friend says he just turned the screen off and put the phone into pocket, and after that there were bootloop.
He never flashed any roms and stuff, doesn't have root, he is just a user who use stock things. He even hasn't downloaded any non-market apps, but he says some strange things about "I was playing angry birds, then I got some danger notification from samsung, I haven't read it, just pressed ok, and for some time everything was ok, but then blah blah blah", i don't know what that was.
He hasn't got any custom recovery either, and he has no warranty in our country.
Factory reset didn't help.
Odin can't see the phone (both 1.85 and 4.38).
Now they also say that their phones were taken somewhere for 20 minutes to "add russian language", the question is how? Flashing another stock rom? I am totally lost.
It seems so silly, but i don't know what to do.
Any ideas?

No recovery, no download mode. Just the same bootloop after reboot.
Kies can't connect too.
I usually tell people to try making a USB jig as their last resort, since they cant boot into download mode.
That's a cheap way to fix it.

I am a female (living with another two females) fixing the phone for male.
I am not that dumb, but I don't have skills or equip to make that jig thingy.
Though, I like the idea, so I would give it a try. Thank you.
300KOhm, 1/4W is okay or 301 needed?
You can find the details here:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-hacks/how-to-make-a-usb-jig-for-your-galaxy-s2/
Even though it says it's for the S2 it should work on SGA as well.
This guy on ebay listed a few phones by samsung:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samsung-Galaxy-Ace-S5830-Fix-Download-USB-jig-MUST-HAVE-/130541952765
And if you would be able to get into download mode in the future, DONT use kies. I would rather stick with ODIN. I havent heard anyone getting their phone bricked using ODIN. A lot of people on XDA seem to have bricked their phone using kies, even my friend became a victim after the first day using his phone.
unfortunately, russian post is ****ty post. it would take too long, i'm afraid. will try to make or to find it here.

[Q] Phone won't boot, enter Recovery Mode, nor connect to PC - what do?

I followed a root-guide a couple of weeks ago and my phone worked perfectly.
I have no memory of what ROM I used, nor do I remember if I flashed a Kernel or not. I'm pretty new at this.
Now, today, my phone sent a notification that a new firmware update was available. Stupid as I am I just press "install" right away. Not much later my phone tried to reboot and suddenly was stuck at the Samsung logo screen. I tried pulling out the battery to reboot and it still wouldn't work. If I connected it to my PC it shows a battery but the spinning arrow-thingy is frozen.
After searching these forums and other places I found several guides on how to fix stuff like this, by either flashing with a new kernel - or rom or w/e I don't know - or going into recovery mode and do something funky. The problem is that I can't reach recovery mode at all, and when I enter download mode it's just frozen at "Downloading..." and I can't get it to connect to my PC at all (tried both with and without Kies). In Odin the ID:COM cells won't update when I connect my phone.
Do you guys have any idea how to resolve this? Do I have to take it to a service centre?
Edit: The phone is out of battery, suddenly, apparently, so I tried to charge it, but that doesn't work either. What the **** has happened to my phone? Please help if you can!

As I have no chance of replacing this phone (because I'm pretty much broke) I really need to fix this on my own if I can. Last resort is borrowing money to send it to service.
If you have any suggestions or theories PLEASE reply ASAP. I will truly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
So Atm what does your phone do? Can you get to download mode? Vol-home and power does it go into that?
Buy a new motherboard. And with your memory, why not borrow the money lol.
-------------------------------------------
maybe your an iphone expert
------------------------------------------
I also stupidly pressed one of those "install update" stuff. Then i had the same symptoms until i removed the battery, then it wouldn't turn on - so i suspected hardbrick.
Lucky enough my warranty still had a month letf and they apparently didn't notice that i had rooted my device and thus vioded my warranty.
Are you sure all Kies' background tasks were closed?
Do you have access to a JIG?
There's anotehr way to get into download mode (other than vol down+power+home) i'll see if i can find it.
If it hardbricks maybe you also can make up a story and give it to them? (just a suggestion, nothing i can say but just mentioning since it worked for me)

It has most definitely hardbricked. I've considered this: Go down there, act dumb, say after installing the firmware update my phone wouldn't boot and a yellow triangle suddenly appeared out of nowhere, or something like that.
I've only had this phone for half a year so I really wanna fix this if possible!
Thanks a lot for the feedback - please reply with more if you've got some suggestions/recommendations/tips/solutions!

Oh so you don't think I've googled for hours to find solutions for this problem? Think again. Every "solution" i read is either take out the battery, enter recovery mode or use an USB jig. 2 of them don't work and the third is at the moment not possible as I don't have a jig.

[Q] SGS 11 Dead bricked?

Hi there,
I'm a new member here but I've enjoyed the site for quite a while and have had a rooted SGS2 for about 18 months, I love the phone and see no reason to move onto anything else, but I've now killed it by trying to be too clever.
I upgraded to Neatrom Lite v4.8 a couple of months ago, and in an attempt to get a bit more out of the battery I deleted Touchwiz, not realising that the phone couldn't operate without it!
I went into CWM recovery and attempted to reload Neatrom, then attempted to reload the stock browser all of which were on my SD card, but I kept getting an error message stating that a file wasn't recognised, then I got an option to overwrite or rewrite the file, which I did, and now my phone is stuck on the battery empty icon or the Galaxy S2 start screen with the yellow triangle, depending whether I start from having the battery removed or restart.
Please can anybody help?
Many thanks in advance,

Thanks for that, I assumed that as I can't get into recovery mode or anything else that Odin wouldn't see the phone, I'll get try it later and post the outcome.

I'm sorry but I can't find the thread, the one I did see is for the I9100 International Exynos variant, mine is a UK T-Mobile so not sure if that's ok, and the tutoral starts with "enter download mode", I can't enter anywhere except a dead battery icon or Samsung screen with the yellow triangle, where am I going wrong?
3rd thread from the top. If you can't get into download mode, it's a trip to a Samsung service centre (or other authorised repairer).
Sticker on the phone chassis, under the battery; what does it say ?

I haven't got the phone with me at the moment to check, but pressing any of the combination of buttons I've seen documented doesn't get me anything except the empty battery icon or the Galaxy S2 start screen with the yellow triangle, which is why I assumed that nothing is going to see the phone as it is, this doesn't change even when the phone is connected to the charger, and there's no reaction at all when I connect to the laptop!
I'm guessing my happiness after your first post was somewhat premature?
OK...
What we need to do is to stop. Completely. And not assume anything else.
You don't even have the phone with you, so how do you know if the stuff suggested in that thread is possible or not with your phone ? (For example, if I had a buck for every person on here who got the button press combo for download & recovery mode the wrong way around over the past two years...)
When you get home, in front of your PC, with the phone, also search for Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread. That has a whole bunch of steps to follow/things to try when the phone & PC won't recognise each other. Once you can make that happen, then you follow the first thread I linked you to so you can go back to stock.

As I've already said it won't go into download or recovery mode , and as this is the first step on the tutorial it isn't going to work whether it's here or not, it's such a pity that the person who replied had to be so pompous and arrogant as I liked this site until now!
I've tried to help you as best I can with the information you've provided. Given the situation you described, the only fix is as I described. There is no other fix.
Fine. Service centre. Pay to get it fixed or throw it in the bin. No skin off my nose either way champ *shrugs* My phone ain't busted.
You're making an awful lot of assumptions for someone who has so few clues. I tried to help you, but you're clearly beyond said help (you're on ignore now, so I won't see any reply - save your fingers).
If your phone was 'dead bricked' you wouldn't even see the battery icon.....
From what I've read, your battery probably is near enough exhausted. You are going to have to find a way to get it fully charged before you try to do anything else.....try leaving the phone switched off and put it on charge.....if you get the battery charging icon, then after it's fully charged you can start attempting to recover it......

Borrow a battery or buy one, then start the Odin stuff

I'll rig something up to charge the battery, maybe from another samsung phone, thanks for the help.

Remove battery, copy the ROM again to the sdcard using PC (even copy several ROMs), return sdcard into phone, boot to CWM and install the ROM from the sdcard. Done!
