[Q] Back to stock kernel and rom? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
It's been absolutely ages since I've done anything to my phone and kind of lost all my abilities to do so aswell. I'm getting my SIII next week and will give my SII to my dad. However I would like to have it running on just everything stock.
Currently still running on:
Android: 2.3.4
baseband: i9100XXKDJ
Kernel: [email protected] #Supercore_1.4 (I know old school)
build: DarkyRom2 XXKG2 ODEXED BASE R3
My question is if you guys could give me a little push in the right way. I have absolutely no clue on how to get back to stock kernel + rom
So please help. Thnx in advance

edit: I did do some research but didn't bring me any information :S (bad searcher aswell I must say)

OMG! Have i bricked my BRANDNEW phone?

Hi guys,
I got my orange samsung galaxy s2 less than a week. Yesterday after rooting, flashing villianrom, i like an idiot, installed Clearglass 1.6 Theme zip via CWM. After rebooting, the phone has now gone into a boot loop. But since i had a nandroid backup (NOT A ZIP FILE!), i thought i'll simply restore...but i can't! The sdcard won't mount. So then i found THIS THREAD.
After following the instructions, i still can't mount the SD Card, yet it's fine in windows 7.
I also thought i'd try to use the ODIN method to reflash my stock fw, but i can't find the correct kernel version . FYI, i'm from uk and the details of my phone are below:-
MODEL: GT-I9100P
ANDROID VERSION: 2.3.4
BASEBAND VERSION: I9100PBVKI2
KERNEL: [email protected] #2
BUILD NO: GINGERBREAD.BVKI3
PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! I can't be without my phone
Not sure what you are asking .
Firmware is not kernel whatever your correct firmware is that includes the kernel .
You have a 1900P whatever the P is .
Find the firmware not the kernel here .
Stock Roms .and csc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Alternative
Clean Slate for those that balls up the firmware .
Backup data first if phone is working .
Boot CWM recovery
Mounts and Storage
Format cache data system sd card .
Remove battery
Boot to download mode
Open Odin
Install correct stock firmware .
Still problems use usb jig to set rom counter to zero .
Return to service centre .

Thanks for your fast reply JJEgan. Could you please tell me which stock fw/rom i need to download as the only one that looks close to mine (KI3) is a poland one and i'm in UK.

No idea what your firmware is as you have fl;ashed it .
Based on OP KI3
Then use KI4 CPW UK firmware is what i would do to get back to a working phone ,

Many thanks for showing me the correct version. I wasn't too sure as i didn't want to mess up the phone permanently. So i simply follow the ODIN boot loop guide?
The way it looks to me is that CWM/Phone is corrupted as i've tried everything - mount/format/unmount/re-mount sd, but it won't detect.
OH BTW! Can you please clarify something for me. I thought that since my orange stock rom said "KI3", i must always get a "KI3"....have i got that wrong? if so how can a KI4 work on a KI3 and why is it not necessary to stick with KI3?
Hey there wowandroid, the KI* is, in my humble opinion just a revision number, higher could mean better reliability in terms of signal and perhaps even battery drain
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
thanks AJ. It's just that my i9100 is P model (i9100P) and has NFC capabilities. I've managed to flash the phone back with the ki4 rom, so big thank you to JJEgan. I just thought that because i have a p model, i might end up removing features once i flash with a ki4.
Anyway, now that i've got it working, can i go ahead and use odin to flash villianrom/checkrom back again?

Best would be just flash a suitable CF Root
And then u will get CWM after that baam install Villan
(LOL 5 min wate took me so long)
cheers mate. I assume from your nick on forum that you've got checkrom? If so, could you tell me how you get a great looking theme installed after checkrom has been flashed? The last time i tried it, i messed up and none of the kitchen apps themes ever changed the looks (just boring samsung looks)

checkrom is compactable with every Theme out there if its built for the latest XWKK5 version which checkrom is on!
So first
1)Install ROM
2)Use there Kitchen Download only any one of the themes, and hit apply and then install (Obviously)
OR
You can Download manually from the Forums any theme or any thing for stock XWKK5
3)After a theme install u will reboot.
4)Then use there Kitchen to flash any mods etc u want
Personally i use this via Kitchen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1310527

hi guys,
i'm about to get started with the update. couple of questions though:-
1. What kernel do you recommend? I need a kernel which gives it the longest battery life if possible.
2. What theme do you recommend? I need a theme which is good eyecandy, but isn't too bloated. Something like this for the villianrom:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229723
3. Is there a rom posted that has already been customised and tweaked with popular kernels/themes? Saves me messing around.

insicure kernel for root?

Hi guys,
i upgraded my sgs2 wiht kies just yesterday,
now i've got this system info:
Android Version: 2.3.6
Base Band: i9100xwki1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-i9100XIKK1-CL739309 [email protected] #2
Build Version: GINGERBREAD.XIKK1
Of course i lost the root, i tried to search for the insicure kernel in this page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671
But i didn't find anything, can you give me a link where i can find the file that i need? or simply tell me another way to root the phone..
Thanks a lot for your help
Use this kernel: clickme
Instant root plus CWM, its based on the stock kernel.
I would go with this one, KK5 based as there doesnt seem to be a KK1 version
clickme (direct link to file)
Flash via odin
ok, thanks a lot, i'll try before tomorrow!
perfect, it work, thanks again!

Goodo
Warning: With a custom kernel you wont be able to update with kies, you will need to flash back your stock kernel from this thread or more likely the thread with carrier firmware (its linked in the other one).
If you flash back your stock kernel you will lose CWM but keep root.

Go here. Then find the proper modem for the version of android you are on and you can use Odin to flash. Good luck and please use the search function.

[Q] Galaxy S II update from 2.3.4 to ICS

Hello xda-devs,
I rooted my sgs2 a while back , but now with the official release of ICS on my phone , I'd like to update to it.
My questions are: Can I do it without unrooting the phone? If not , how can I unroot my phone along with most of the apps I got that only work on rooted devices?
Thanks in advance

2.6.35.7

So I'm guessing ... not?
If you can flash your stock kernel, then you are good to go.
If not, then you can flash the same firmware via Odin

You have to Root again. Actually rooting is much easier in ICS.
First, you need to post your Firmware details: Goto Settings > About phone, and post everything you see.

Hmmm... maybe you can try to flash another recovery. Or gingerbread kernel since the recovery is part of the kernel for galaxy s phones. Try flashing it without manually going to recovery and doing it. Like the sgs kernel flasher on the play store might work. Not sure if it does on non stock roms maybe you could try it out.
There also some kernel.tar files you can flash in Odin. BTW, this is vibrant forms not i9000 but none the less a .tar is a good option.

Of course you're going to have issues with buttons... Its a different button key-mapping... -.- If I were you, I'd odin back to stock and flash A CORRECT VIBRANT ROM, instead of an i9000 one. I assure you, by flashing an i9000 ROM on the Vibrant, you're going to have quite a bit of issues.
You can buy or make a DL jig to get in DL mode. They sell them here

I bought this from Sky Mall.
