Sorry for the newb questions but coming from an Iphone 4 to the ATT HOX+ for USA this friday the day it is released. Have never used android anything so this is all new to me. Basically how would i get my contacts and music from my iphone to my new HOX+ when i get it? On iTunes i tried to sync my contacts to my google mail account but nothing happened. iTunes asked for google email info, typed it all in, synced phone, said sync was complete. Logged into my gmail and saw no contacts in it so it seems nothing synced?
I read with the new HTC Sync Manager download for this HOX+ device it will somehow sync your music straight from iTunes? Is this true and if so sounds easy enough?
Any suggestions on must have apps to download and use for HOX+ when i get it?
Of course like anyone i would love to use my HOX+ as soon as i get it but at least need all my contacts on the device as i use it for work as well. I also read you can use an app called Bump if i download it on both my iphone and HOX+ i can then just Bump my contacts over with this app? If this is true, can this be performed with my sim card only in my HOX+ and no sim card in my iphone? Only have 1 sim card of course for only 1 device.
Appreciate any info, thank you
Hi there,
I am not sure but the easiest way to get your contacts from your Ifone to your gmail account would be with a vCard which according to gmail is compatible..guess you just attach the vcard to a mail to your gmail address and open it, on your computer (Windows?), within the Contacts tab in your gmail account (contacts management just click on the gmail link under Google)
There you have on top of your contacts list the option "moer" and there click on import, point to the download of the vCard and it should load.
Another thing is the copyright protected iTunes musicfiles...that is a bummer...
I never tried to get iTunes music files to Android...I left left any bitten fruit behind back in 2008...except of the 15GB of music I bought while being blinded by Apple. Had backup CDs with all my purchases, then the motherboard of my iBook broke and all stuff gone...until they introduced their cloud sync I could only listen to my music by running the actual CD backups...most annoying...but after I synced all my old music to my iTunes Windows I had to convert it all with TuneClone software to be able to play them! That was a right kerfuffel...
I tell you...I never buy anything in iTunes ever again! I only use it now to download my favourite DeepHouze DJ mixes
Believe me..once you break the chains Apple forces around their customers you will free soooo free...and with the help of xda community you can start to enjoy mobile technology the way it is meant to..to be fun, to be on the edge, to be for everyone! At least that is how I felt
Right, to be back on topic...try the vCard import thingy in your gmail contacts setting..with the iTunes stuff maybe someone else is more up to have latest info!
Njoi your One X+ it is amazing!

I hear you bro. As you can see in my sig last time i was around this site i had an ATT Tilt2 device from HTC and really loved it! This was way back with windows mobile 6.1 or 6.5 i believe and when sense original first came out! I then upgraded to iPhone 4 as soon as it came out and loved it jailbroken. Never owned an Apple product in my life and still this device is the only Apple product i own and will now only use as my car's ipod player once i get the HOX+. Apple really is crap, even if i went from iphone 4 to the new 5 it's barely a leap forward and took Apple almost 2yrs to produce this? They careless about their customers and honestly it's all a trend, not at all quality. Very excited to get into Android devices and learn as much as i can about them and just reading this whole HOX+ forum and watching youtube vids i'm very very excited! Going to sneak out of work Friday as soon as my local ATT store opens to be the first to purchase the HOX+ then run to the nearest mall to get the ZAGG HD screen shield professionally installed, then call up SquareTrade for my 2year unlimited coverage device warranty, then i'll be all set to mod and do whatever!
I'll try what you mentioned but you would think there would be an easier way. Hope i can easily figure it out on friday when the time comes.

Is this more than the just the apk that has been ubiquitous.
Its certainly more....
It the streaming service a la "Amazon MP3 Cloud."
I got my invite too. Ironically the e-mail says:
Hello Motorola XOOM user,
We'd like to tell you about some changes to the Music player on your tablet. The latest app update now supports Music Beta, a new service from Google. As a Verizon Motorola XOOM user, you’ve been extended an early invitation to beta test this service.

I have never signed this account into a XOOM, I live in Canada, don't own a XOOM. But I got the invite anyway =)
I signed up originally for the invite by logging into a US VPN. But now that I've been invited, I seem to be able to do 100% everything from my Canadian IP address.

Google thinks we have a XOOM because our tabs say we do.
EDIT: my bad, cmstlist says I'm wrong. I don't care enough to check. Go Google XOOM Music!
I got a invite setting it up on my Nook now. I have it on my Droid too
I have found that google was wrong. You can listen to it on many devices at one time. I had my wifes Incredible, my droid and my Nook ll playing different songs at the same time from my one account

I'm looking at the CM7 build.prop and I don't see anything that implies XOOM. In fact I see the word "passion" in there - it identifies like a Nexus One?

My bad. But really, who cares?
I just realized. Google recognizes my devices as a "BN Flyer".
They probably think I've gone mad.
Should have changed it to Xoom before signing up.

This is exactly what happened to me. It's working great without using a VPN on all my devices!
Are you all running this on CM7, or anybody running it on rooted stock? I tried grabbing the APK from my Evo and it installs but never gives me the authorization screen. If running rooted stock, did you use ManualNooter and if so, what version? I'm on one of the original (or second release) versions, so I'm wondering if it's my build.props file keeping it from working.
I couldn't find it in the market either.
Thanks!
Still wish I got an invite.
Got it. Running great on both my nook and evo.
(both running CM7)
using this on my nook and eris
nook it works great, and google recognizes it as BN BN Nook Color
on my eris it runs decent on wifi, but takes a little longer to get going when im on 3g. plus the eris sucks.
trick i learned was to select an album, then pause and let it buffer through almost a whole song before i let it play the album.
i've written google countless reports about things i think should be different, but all in all im pleased.
I got an invite also on my google account not associated with any android device. I set up a second google account for my android devices to better sync contacts.
I think the invites are just going down the list of people who signed up, or at least a list sorted by some non-android related order. I did sign up pretty early, i think, since I was paying attention to google IO when it was announced.
All-in-all, I haven't been overly impressed with it compared to Amazon's. The big missing feature is that you can't download MP3s after you upload it. The free music they give you was kind of nice though.. i was expecting mostly indy songs, but there were some decent songs there... although some of the decent songs were mediocre live performances from over-the-hill performers
They just sent another round of invites and I got one. Installing the music manager now.
Just got the invite. Takes forever to upload music, though. Took me a whole night just to upload 2000 songs. At this rate, it's going to take me a whole week to hit the 20k song limit.

Sounds exactly like my experience uploading all of my tunes to Amazon cloud.
(still waiting for my invite)
So for the ones who have it can you tell me if theres a huge bonus to google music over audiogalaxy? I love my audiogalaxy account and there's no need for upload
maybe someone can help me. im used to having a blackberry however i got htc evo 3d today and making or receiving calls is hell. i can't hear anyone.
and evo won't sync my contacts from gmail into the contact address book on the phone.
i am new to this phone so please explain what am i doing wrong and better yet what can i do to improve these before going insane.
thank u
The first thing that I would check is to make sure that your phone actually programmed. Next log into your gmail account online and make sure that your contacts are in my contacts and not other contacts. If they are on your phone, but not in your gmail, then what I would recommend that you do is export the contacts up to the memory card, and then re-import them to the gmail account. They will sync from there. As far as the no sound thing, take it to a full service store and have them check it out. From there, depending on where you got it, you might need to go back to the original place of purchase and have it exchanged.

If you literally cannot hear anyone, take it to have it swapped out.
If you can hear people but it is very hard to hear try the hearing aids setting, I believe under the call menu in settings.
I did figure out how to get gmail contacts synced. thank god.
The hearing is just very very weak. Ive been reading that this is one major problem with evo 3d and that they haven't fixed the bug yet. Welllll how am I supposed to work on this phone if it sounds like the people im talking to are 100000000 miles away. even speaker is just very weak.
i did hear someone say theres a way to change the voice coding by bypassing through with some msl code. i called sprint and they refused to provide me the code saying that for security purposes they do not provide this code. i take it they dont want their phones unlocked so that we purchase all of their apps. just like the iphone. however i know there are ways to get the code but im not tech savvy and have no idea how to do this.
anyone? with any help i would really appreciate it.
ughhhh its really hard going from a blackberry to an android. every day is a learning experience.

I will definitely read over the guide this weekend and hopefully won't mess anything up in my phone. :/
So when they say root the phone, is that the same thing as unlocking it so you can download free apps etc?
Thanks
Hey guys, I've looked around a bit and couldn't find an answer so I thought I'd post a question!
So here's the deal.. For the past 5 years or so I've had an iPod and bought various songs and such on iTunes, but now my iPod is broken and I would like to get all of the music I had purchased from iTunes (which was a lot) to my android phone, however of course in the past they were locked/protected/whatever you want to call it... So my question is, is there a way to get that music on to my phone so that it can be played?? I know the recent stuff I can play but I'd really like the old stuff too as there are about 200-300 items that I've purchased that are protected thanks in advanced!
If of course I have overlooked something very obvious please feel free to mention it and I will proceed to kick myself for missing it

If somehow none of those work if you google "how to use itunes protected music on android" there are a ton of different pages with ways to do it I am SURE one of them will work.

You could use an explorer on your PC (for your iPod; I would recommend "iFunbox" ) and copy all of your songs to your PC (they are in a folder) and place that folder on your phone's SD card.
This may help:

Just got off a 30 minute call with Verizon support.
Be advised for those new to specific phones (DNA) that you cannot log into your contacts on the Verizon website and view your contacts.
The DNA is sold with a "feature" that automatically bumps you up to Backup Assistant Plus. Whether you want it or not.
What that means is that you will need to set up a new account with gmail....yahoo....etc, before you are able to access and view the contacts you have.
The Verizon rep was not even aware of this and after talking to tech/software support they were able at my approval go into my phone and uninstall the "feature".
You need to log out of the site and then log back in before the uninstall sets.
Verizon tech was not up to speed on this although I'm sure many members here (not noobie me) are all on board with this issue.
This is bloat is a subtle format.
Consider it a Christmas gift from Verizon. One that even they don't know about.
I didn't know people even used Verizon's backup assistant still... I've always used Google to backup my contacts, it works much better IMO.

Keep in mind that once you are knowledgeable about something it is very difficult to imagine that everyone else may not be.
It can be a bit intimidating to show up at a party where everyone else is wearing tuxedos and you walk in wearing..... a tee shirt and jeans.
If you know what I mean..........
Does anyone know where I can find a standalone email .wgt (I don't want to connect to my phone... it's apple... don't kill me)?
Also, an android launcher .wgt like nova launcher would be really cool! (I don't care about battery life if I'm running this)
The main reason my wife bought me this watch was so I could be sneaky and check my emails while I'm in meetings... that way I'd have more time to spend with her at home rather than answering emails until 8pm... I'm pretty much screwed either way, but my inner geek wants to make this work, and I don't like Samsung limiting what my property can do.
This watch can be a completely stand alone device, but Samsung has crippled it's capabilities in an attempt to force us to buy one of their smartphones. I'm not a big fan of these marketing tactics, and have made it my mission to make this watch do what I want it to do, and know it can do. I will not buy a Samsung phone just so I can play with my watch.
I'm a complete noob at this, but thanks to this forum, I've been able to learn quickly. I've been able to root the watch and sideload all of the apps i can find (and think are useful).
I still don't have access to download registered apps, since I didn't cave in and buy a samsung phone. I'm sure there are a lot of good apps that help increase the functionality of the watch.
I'm hoping there are some geniuses out there who could help me out with the email and android launcher questions.
Email/apps
I'm in the same boat as you are. Not spending the extra cash on an additional phone has left much to be desired with the watch. Being a standalone device I thought I would have at least been able to get emails, so a new app is much needed.
Btw I did several searches but could find how to Sideload apps onto the gear s...do you happen to have a link? What apps were you able to find, and can you post them? Thanks, like you I'm very new but willing to help in any way I can.
Now if we can figure out the pit file/ full android I'd be set!
Thanks again!

I just bought a cheapo compatible sammy.
Buy a used galaxy running 4.3 (s3 mini on ebay, used ~$50-70) and use it as a relay. Just copy all the apps and mail accounts from your daily driver onto the S3, connect to Wi-Fi, set the notifications, disconnect from Bluetooth, and use the remote as the tether.

Hopefully someone will come up with a standalone_email.wgt soon.
Right now I'm looking into the feasibility of flashing an Android ROM onto my Gear S.... if that's even possible. Given the limited apps available for Tizen, and all of the built in mess that samsung has provided with this phone, I'm thinking that is the way to go. But, I'm a noob, so haven't had a chance to work with ODIN too much on the ROM flashing side of things.
this is by far the best guide on sideloading apps for Gear S (for your average noob like me):
denvycom.com/blog/how-to-install-wgt-files-gear2
A few wrinkles they don't go over:
Make sure your Java is up to date. If it isn't, Tizen won't install. However, more problematic for me, was getting the developer.samsung.com website to work correctly with my default browser. I uninstalled it and re installed it (and all versions between 6 and 8) quite a few times. If you have the same problems and the website isn't loading java correctly, it's going to be virtually impossible to get your author cert or device profile licenses. I hope you don't run into this problem.
Once you get all of that working, you can scour the Gear S and Gear 2 forums for .wgt files (these .wgt are the "application" files that Tizen uses). There are a lot here on this forum. just download them, copy them to the SDB folder, open up your CMD prompt, find sdb foler, type sdb install xxx.wgt, the press enter.
I'm still not happy with what I've been able to find, pretty much the only .wgt files I've found that are nice are opera mini and a few calculators. Opera mini can't even load flash, so kiss listening to Pandora over your Bluetooth headphones while running.
which brings up another good app request... if anybody is listening... a pandora.wgt would be really really cool!!
Hope this helps

Not saying I don't disagree with you. It's a real BS game these guys play! These two devices are the first and only Sam tech I have, and never found their forced ecosystem tactics tasteful. In the end, i REALLY did try to find a possible alternative...From LG to Umeox to ZGPAX. I struggled with an Omate TS for almost a year...to get what the S does out of box (w/compatible Sam, or course) and more.
For me...i needed a reliable device...function beat out emotion and personal feelings in this case.

Thanks for the advice...hopefully I can get to installing some later today. After purchasing the gear and soon learning all its limitations I went to Walmart and purchased a prepaid Samsung phone for the first time pairing before returning the phone. While I managed to get a few apps I quickly found out that most are useless without a paired device.
I do have opera install but found after rooting the gear the app opens to a black screen and that's all.
Long story short, until a new rom is created I'm pretty much stuck with a phone and messaging device (which is nice and all...but not for the price we paid)
Thanks again for all the info!

Hi there!
I am in the same boat as you. iPhone 6 is my primary phone but i also have a twin SIM card that i want to use with the Gear S (standalone). However i still need a (cheap as it can get) Samsung phone for setting up the watch, installing apps and the remote connection.
Can you please confirm that the S3 mini is indeed compatible with the Gear S; What version of Android does it have? Can you post the exact FW name? I was not sure it supported BT 4.0 hardwarewise.
Thank you so much!

Ah, this is a great one. Did this for a friend a few weeks ago...an iPhone 6 playing nice with a Samsung! (Think I heard something about Hell and freezing on this subject But all kidding aside, she does get a lot of comments about the phone/watch combo.
To be honest, I think there's a lot more phones that are compatible with the S that Sammy is letting on. At our Main OFFICIAL AT&T store...their little tablets show maybe 7 or so Samsung models that are "officially" compatible. However, I've heard, and read of some folks trying cheap, simple pre-paid models...and all is working.
After doing some quick research, it seems that it's more important to have Android 4.3 or higher to ensure full functionality. It's the additional Gear Mgr software that will handle the S's functions... And their 4.3+/TouchWiz combo seems to be the key.
Hope this helps... Good luck!
Oh, and BTW, I don't have an iPhone... I do have an android based phone, the HTC One M8. I just have never cared for TouchWiz, nor Samsung's designs.
(Please no OEM wars, just stating my personal opinion)
