Itunes music - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I've looked around a bit and couldn't find an answer so I thought I'd post a question!
So here's the deal.. For the past 5 years or so I've had an iPod and bought various songs and such on iTunes, but now my iPod is broken and I would like to get all of the music I had purchased from iTunes (which was a lot) to my android phone, however of course in the past they were locked/protected/whatever you want to call it... So my question is, is there a way to get that music on to my phone so that it can be played?? I know the recent stuff I can play but I'd really like the old stuff too as there are about 200-300 items that I've purchased that are protected thanks in advanced!
If of course I have overlooked something very obvious please feel free to mention it and I will proceed to kick myself for missing it

This article is a bit old but give these a try http://itunesm4ptomp3.wordpress.com/
If somehow none of those work if you google "how to use itunes protected music on android" there are a ton of different pages with ways to do it I am SURE one of them will work.

You could use an explorer on your PC (for your iPod; I would recommend "iFunbox" ) and copy all of your songs to your PC (they are in a folder) and place that folder on your phone's SD card.

[Q] Few Questions about the Galaxy S II...

Hey there, I'm pretty new here. (first post ) And I got a few questions about the Galaxy S II.
So I'm thinking about getting one, or actually I am deciding between this or the iPhone 4.
Well I know the Galaxy S II beats the iPhone 4 in nearly every point, except for resolution of the display, but i think its good enough.
I currently am an iPhone user, and I do love all Apple Stuff, call me fanboy.. BUT! I think I'm not dumb
I dont want to be blind and go out and just buy an iPhone, because I know there are better phones out there. Well the iPhone 4 came last year and all this stuff is developing pretty fast, but nevertheless I do like the iPhone. So my decision will be made after I got to know, what I didn't get about the Galaxy S II.
1. When the phone is locked, and you press the Home Button, does this really, completely unlock the phone, without the need to do an unlock, like sliding the picture away, or doing some gestures? I saw this in a review, and thought, this is not good
2. Some users here in the forums were posting things like, their phones getting hot, or that its lagging while browsing through the homescreens sometimes.. and i was like: ?! how can such a beast of phone even think about lagging?!^^^'
So have you had problems using it, like overheating or lagging?
3. I really do like the iPhone's taskswitcher. And I think that the one coming with touchwiz is the only one (as far as i know) that does something similar..
So can you access the taskswitcher in EVERY app by longpressing the home button?
4. I actually do like, that every app must be confirmed by apple before entering the app store. so there are no apps that crash or stuff like that.. i know that most android fans love that android is an open platform. but when i'm reading reviews of apps in the marketplace, most stuff i read is: bad, forces restart, crashes... stuff like that.. most of all the facebook app, this would be something i really need, but i don't want it to be buggy and crashing all the time..
I can't belief, that Android is getting so famous when the apps are as bad as they are said to be in the market...
So are the apps you are using reliable? Or do they crash and stuff..?
I don't want to be offensive or what, but i won't get this on contract. I'll have to pay something like 600€ for it and i dont want to do this if i'm not 100% sure.
Thanks
Sorry for so much text

Not until its customised in the future its swipe to unlock screen .

No lag at all

95% reliable and most are updated frequently and MANY ARE FREE
Really its a move from a closed but carefully controlled environment where you do what Apple wants you to do and Flash is bad for you .
To a more open environment where you are far more free and not as tightly controlled .
Plus of Apple is that for many it is tightly locked down a child can use IPhone as its all simple .Thats actually a plus point as well as a negative point .
For me its a simple choice IPhone top class phone but compared to SGS1 dont mind the SGS 2 it is vastly overpriced . I want music in my format not Steve's etc . Apps got all the apps i want and none that i know of from Apple i am missing .So a simple choice but somebody else may well be willing to pay the premium .
Some IPhone user do find it hard to adapt to a different method of working .

Well thanks for the fast answer!
I think i get what you meant with: "Plus of Apple is that for many it is tightly locked down a child can use IPhone as its all simple .Thats actually a plus point as well as a negative point ."
And thats one of the points, that may keep me from buying an iPhone. Because if i get the new iphone theres nothing really new. well its faster and got a better cam but its still the os im using already, which is not bad at all, but its nothing new and its sooooooo easy^^^' nearly boring
Don't want to call me dev, but besides writing apps, i like to get most out of a device, psp, ds, iphone... on iphone there are posiblities but i think android got better ones.
still gotta make up my mind a little, maybe wait what iOS 5 will look like, seriously apple has to catch up a little . SGS 2 launches May 27nd here and iOS 5 Event is on June 6th. Think i'll be able to wait a few days, but probably they wont get to where android is right now.
Good to hear, that theres no lag and apps are not that bad. Actually all the answers are good
thanks alot!

[Q] Android Phone ?'s

Greetings
I have a few perhaps off-the-wall questions (though maybe not, I don't know).
First off, I am an iPhone user (currently), but prior to my 3GS I did have an original Moto Droid (switched carriers so my wife could get an iPhone). My next upgrade (and hers) is coming up. I know she wants a new iPhone so she and the kids can Facetime with her mother. There are other programs that can do the same thing, but her mother is not tech-inclined so Facetime is the best option for her. Me, on the other hand...I'm not sure yet.
I remember back then that there was at least 1 program that let me sync to the Droid using iTunes, though it didn't work very well. Can anyone tell me the name of the program and does it work better now? Drag and Drop is always an option, but if iTunes is open, it might be easier.
The second question is a bigger one. Currently I plug my iPhone into a usb cable running from my car CD Player which both charges the phone and plays whatever I'm listening through directly through the stereo in the car. Is this something that I can readily adapt to Android? I would prefer not having to buy extra cables or anything like that to get the same functionality.
That brings me to my last question. During my commute (1 hr each way, 5 days a week) I mostly listen to audiobooks. All but one of these I have created myself by taking a book in mp3 format, converting it to m4a using iTunes, then changing the extension to m4b. This works perfectly. They show up in the audiobook section and until recently (5.0 update, I think) I could stop an audiobook, listen to actual music, then continue the audiobook right where I left off. That could be more related to the book being marked as listened to, though.
Does Android have an audio player that will play these books in this format? I don't want to reconvert them, and I don't want to have multiple copies of the same book taking up space (not much, but still) on my file server. If Android does have this, does said player also play chaptered/possibly drm'd audiobooks purchased through iTunes/Audible?
These are questions I would really need answered before I made the leap back to Android. I love the platform, and am currently rediscovering that love with my Nook Tablet; but there are some things that I am unwilling to compromise on with a phone when I know there is an alternative out there that works the way I want it to.
Those are some of the longest questions I have read in a while...
My advice: spend time researching instead of writing novel-like questions.

Your post was totally unnecessary. The guy has legit concerns and he has every right come here and ask the experts.

While I appreciate your opinion, as the poster below you said: they are legit concerns.
Personally, I would rather read long but well thought out questions than a bunch of short questions that are answered quickly, but don't completely satisfy the anticipated or desired result.
I have been away from Android phones for some time now. Like any computing technology, things change; and the longer you're away the more things are different than when you left.
I have researched, but haven't found answers that completely satisfy what I'm looking for. That's why I asked the questions I did.
Apparently Mortplayer has an Audiobook version that is supposed to work, though I have no idea if it will. I haven't tried it.
And the answer to my usb playing question seems to be a resounding no. I would be forced to use 2 things: a usb charger and an aux input to the headphone jack. Not as all-in-one as I had hoped. Bummer.

HTC inspire AT&T bypass lockscreen password

My daughter has a HTC Inspire & recently lost it due to behavior unbecoming for a young lady!! My question is is there a way to gain root access in order to blow out the password file & access the phone or any other trick that wont reset everything? If im being honest, Im scared to death of what I might find but also believe its something that needs to be addressed before something even worse happens! Any of you with daughters know what im talking about.
I guess I could just record a youtube video of me putting a couple rounds in it!
Thanks in advance!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357490
this should do it
That looks like a nice program to instal on the device after I get into it but as it stands now the phone is locked & I dont even think its even rooted at this time! I need a tool or windows download of some sort. Any help greatly appreciated!
How about this?
http://androidadvices.com/unlock-android-phone-forgot-pin-password-screen-lock/
It should work but it will require you to know the Gmail account (username and password) that your daughter used when she setup the phone in order to access android market on your PC and download the app.
Good luck

Do you know the # of characters for the password?
Start by trying things that you know your daughter is into... favourite band, tv show, etc.. or simple things like her birthday, her best friend's name
But honestly, why wouldn't you just ask her?
Tell her AT&T needs to know her password so they can try to recover the phone... just get creative, then once you unlock it install the app and you're good to go!
Yeah I figured out the password & tried to install the program but it says for security your phone is set to block installation of non market apps & takes me to settings but i couldnt find any options to allow me to do it.
Is this a relevant article or is there an newer or easier way?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=706887
Go to
Menu > Settings > Applications
Check the "unknown sources" box, good to go.
Not sure if AT&T still locks their phones from doing this.. but if so, the option won't be there..
I can't imagine that they would do still lock them from sideloading because then you wouldn't be able to use the Amazon app store..
Let me know

Jesus man ......... i so wish you hadn't posted this bro ........*sigh*.
I have 6 year old twin girls ......... and one of them Gretel ........ already has the most inappropriate friends you could possible imagine ...............
Am not being 'square' in believing 6 year olds do not need high heels am I??
That 6 year olds encouraging each other to kiss boys is unnecessarily early??
Or that in 2012 hair length and colour of garment should not be a big gender signifier??
Dood .......... please tell me it gets better??
Yeah its NOT giving me that option..... Im updating the software in hopes that fixes it. any other work arounds for sideloading if not?
And no sir unfortunately it DOESNT get better! Im gonna end up in prison!! LOL
No offence, but at six years old, you should be able to dictate who her friends are - so long as you have the mother's (wife's?) support
I do hear what you are saying.. environmentally it's hard nowadays.. so much inappropriate influence from media/friends/etc
but my five year old daughter does what I say.. end of story.. it all boils down to the parents. Act now brother! Save the children! (seriously) it only gets harder.

Yeah that would work where it not for the fact that my kids are at school full time 5 days a week 9am-3pm and the inappropriate kids are her school friends. I have no control over who see hangs with at school ........ just like every other parent.
Looking for solutions for something similar to this.
maybe a free solution..... Anyone heard or have any expeirence with anything like this?
mobile-spy.com
Go to htcsense.com, log on to the accpunt she useful for HTC apps. From there you can track her phone, forward messages and calls to another phone. Lock the phone, etc..... I love it because I lost it once and I tracked it down and found it, also I was able to forward everything to my galaxy s.

[Q] Iphone to HOX+?

Sorry for the newb questions but coming from an Iphone 4 to the ATT HOX+ for USA this friday the day it is released. Have never used android anything so this is all new to me. Basically how would i get my contacts and music from my iphone to my new HOX+ when i get it? On iTunes i tried to sync my contacts to my google mail account but nothing happened. iTunes asked for google email info, typed it all in, synced phone, said sync was complete. Logged into my gmail and saw no contacts in it so it seems nothing synced?
I read with the new HTC Sync Manager download for this HOX+ device it will somehow sync your music straight from iTunes? Is this true and if so sounds easy enough?
Any suggestions on must have apps to download and use for HOX+ when i get it?
Of course like anyone i would love to use my HOX+ as soon as i get it but at least need all my contacts on the device as i use it for work as well. I also read you can use an app called Bump if i download it on both my iphone and HOX+ i can then just Bump my contacts over with this app? If this is true, can this be performed with my sim card only in my HOX+ and no sim card in my iphone? Only have 1 sim card of course for only 1 device.
Appreciate any info, thank you
Hi there,
I am not sure but the easiest way to get your contacts from your Ifone to your gmail account would be with a vCard which according to gmail is compatible..guess you just attach the vcard to a mail to your gmail address and open it, on your computer (Windows?), within the Contacts tab in your gmail account (contacts management just click on the gmail link under Google)
There you have on top of your contacts list the option "moer" and there click on import, point to the download of the vCard and it should load.
Another thing is the copyright protected iTunes musicfiles...that is a bummer...
I never tried to get iTunes music files to Android...I left left any bitten fruit behind back in 2008...except of the 15GB of music I bought while being blinded by Apple. Had backup CDs with all my purchases, then the motherboard of my iBook broke and all stuff gone...until they introduced their cloud sync I could only listen to my music by running the actual CD backups...most annoying...but after I synced all my old music to my iTunes Windows I had to convert it all with TuneClone software to be able to play them! That was a right kerfuffel...
I tell you...I never buy anything in iTunes ever again! I only use it now to download my favourite DeepHouze DJ mixes
Believe me..once you break the chains Apple forces around their customers you will free soooo free...and with the help of xda community you can start to enjoy mobile technology the way it is meant to..to be fun, to be on the edge, to be for everyone! At least that is how I felt
Right, to be back on topic...try the vCard import thingy in your gmail contacts setting..with the iTunes stuff maybe someone else is more up to have latest info!
Njoi your One X+ it is amazing!

I hear you bro. As you can see in my sig last time i was around this site i had an ATT Tilt2 device from HTC and really loved it! This was way back with windows mobile 6.1 or 6.5 i believe and when sense original first came out! I then upgraded to iPhone 4 as soon as it came out and loved it jailbroken. Never owned an Apple product in my life and still this device is the only Apple product i own and will now only use as my car's ipod player once i get the HOX+. Apple really is crap, even if i went from iphone 4 to the new 5 it's barely a leap forward and took Apple almost 2yrs to produce this? They careless about their customers and honestly it's all a trend, not at all quality. Very excited to get into Android devices and learn as much as i can about them and just reading this whole HOX+ forum and watching youtube vids i'm very very excited! Going to sneak out of work Friday as soon as my local ATT store opens to be the first to purchase the HOX+ then run to the nearest mall to get the ZAGG HD screen shield professionally installed, then call up SquareTrade for my 2year unlimited coverage device warranty, then i'll be all set to mod and do whatever!
I'll try what you mentioned but you would think there would be an easier way. Hope i can easily figure it out on friday when the time comes.

[Q] Gear S Standalone Email Widget?

Does anyone know where I can find a standalone email .wgt (I don't want to connect to my phone... it's apple... don't kill me)?
Also, an android launcher .wgt like nova launcher would be really cool! (I don't care about battery life if I'm running this)
The main reason my wife bought me this watch was so I could be sneaky and check my emails while I'm in meetings... that way I'd have more time to spend with her at home rather than answering emails until 8pm... I'm pretty much screwed either way, but my inner geek wants to make this work, and I don't like Samsung limiting what my property can do.
This watch can be a completely stand alone device, but Samsung has crippled it's capabilities in an attempt to force us to buy one of their smartphones. I'm not a big fan of these marketing tactics, and have made it my mission to make this watch do what I want it to do, and know it can do. I will not buy a Samsung phone just so I can play with my watch.
I'm a complete noob at this, but thanks to this forum, I've been able to learn quickly. I've been able to root the watch and sideload all of the apps i can find (and think are useful).
I still don't have access to download registered apps, since I didn't cave in and buy a samsung phone. I'm sure there are a lot of good apps that help increase the functionality of the watch.
I'm hoping there are some geniuses out there who could help me out with the email and android launcher questions.
Email/apps
I'm in the same boat as you are. Not spending the extra cash on an additional phone has left much to be desired with the watch. Being a standalone device I thought I would have at least been able to get emails, so a new app is much needed.
Btw I did several searches but could find how to Sideload apps onto the gear s...do you happen to have a link? What apps were you able to find, and can you post them? Thanks, like you I'm very new but willing to help in any way I can.
Now if we can figure out the pit file/ full android I'd be set!
Thanks again!

I just bought a cheapo compatible sammy.
Buy a used galaxy running 4.3 (s3 mini on ebay, used ~$50-70) and use it as a relay. Just copy all the apps and mail accounts from your daily driver onto the S3, connect to Wi-Fi, set the notifications, disconnect from Bluetooth, and use the remote as the tether.

Hopefully someone will come up with a standalone_email.wgt soon.
Right now I'm looking into the feasibility of flashing an Android ROM onto my Gear S.... if that's even possible. Given the limited apps available for Tizen, and all of the built in mess that samsung has provided with this phone, I'm thinking that is the way to go. But, I'm a noob, so haven't had a chance to work with ODIN too much on the ROM flashing side of things.
this is by far the best guide on sideloading apps for Gear S (for your average noob like me):

A few wrinkles they don't go over:
Make sure your Java is up to date. If it isn't, Tizen won't install. However, more problematic for me, was getting the developer.samsung.com website to work correctly with my default browser. I uninstalled it and re installed it (and all versions between 6 and 8) quite a few times. If you have the same problems and the website isn't loading java correctly, it's going to be virtually impossible to get your author cert or device profile licenses. I hope you don't run into this problem.
Once you get all of that working, you can scour the Gear S and Gear 2 forums for .wgt files (these .wgt are the "application" files that Tizen uses). There are a lot here on this forum. just download them, copy them to the SDB folder, open up your CMD prompt, find sdb foler, type sdb install xxx.wgt, the press enter.
I'm still not happy with what I've been able to find, pretty much the only .wgt files I've found that are nice are opera mini and a few calculators. Opera mini can't even load flash, so kiss listening to Pandora over your Bluetooth headphones while running.
which brings up another good app request... if anybody is listening... a pandora.wgt would be really really cool!!
Hope this helps

I just bought a cheapo compatible sammy.
Buy a used galaxy running 4.3 (s3 mini on ebay, used ~$50-70) and use it as a relay. Just copy all the apps and mail accounts from your daily driver onto the S3, connect to Wi-Fi, set the notifications, disconnect from Bluetooth, and use the remote as the tether.

That's called "getting tricked by the biz"! It's like buying a $50 t-shirt! At least you can wear the t-shirt
Sorry man, not trying to be negative, I know it would be easier to do it this way. The fact that they're making me buy one of their phones to make my watch work makes me want to buy a Samsung even less!

Not saying I don't disagree with you. It's a real BS game these guys play! These two devices are the first and only Sam tech I have, and never found their forced ecosystem tactics tasteful. In the end, i REALLY did try to find a possible alternative...From LG to Umeox to ZGPAX. I struggled with an Omate TS for almost a year...to get what the S does out of box (w/compatible Sam, or course) and more.
For me...i needed a reliable device...function beat out emotion and personal feelings in this case.

Thanks for the advice...hopefully I can get to installing some later today. After purchasing the gear and soon learning all its limitations I went to Walmart and purchased a prepaid Samsung phone for the first time pairing before returning the phone. While I managed to get a few apps I quickly found out that most are useless without a paired device.
I do have opera install but found after rooting the gear the app opens to a black screen and that's all.
Long story short, until a new rom is created I'm pretty much stuck with a phone and messaging device (which is nice and all...but not for the price we paid)
Thanks again for all the info!

Hi there!
I am in the same boat as you. iPhone 6 is my primary phone but i also have a twin SIM card that i want to use with the Gear S (standalone). However i still need a (cheap as it can get) Samsung phone for setting up the watch, installing apps and the remote connection.
Can you please confirm that the S3 mini is indeed compatible with the Gear S; What version of Android does it have? Can you post the exact FW name? I was not sure it supported BT 4.0 hardwarewise.
Thank you so much!

Ah, this is a great one. Did this for a friend a few weeks ago...an iPhone 6 playing nice with a Samsung! (Think I heard something about Hell and freezing on this subject But all kidding aside, she does get a lot of comments about the phone/watch combo.
To be honest, I think there's a lot more phones that are compatible with the S that Sammy is letting on. At our Main OFFICIAL AT&T store...their little tablets show maybe 7 or so Samsung models that are "officially" compatible. However, I've heard, and read of some folks trying cheap, simple pre-paid models...and all is working.
After doing some quick research, it seems that it's more important to have Android 4.3 or higher to ensure full functionality. It's the additional Gear Mgr software that will handle the S's functions... And their 4.3+/TouchWiz combo seems to be the key.
Hope this helps... Good luck!
Oh, and BTW, I don't have an iPhone... I do have an android based phone, the HTC One M8. I just have never cared for TouchWiz, nor Samsung's designs.
(Please no OEM wars, just stating my personal opinion)
