[Q]Baseband become 'unknown' on all roms except stock and CM - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have owned multiple Vibrants, but I can't understand the problem with this one specifically that I recently purchased. It seems to be farcical, but it is the case.
The problem: Beside stock and CyanogenMod roms, no matter what other roms I installed, whether it is Paranoid Android, SlimBean, AOKP, the baseband gets undetected either immediately after flashing, or while using the device. This is even if the /radio/modem.bin file is still exist with the correct permission and the IMEI is correct. After the baseband become undetected, the only way to fix it is to reflash a rom.
Example: I might be using the phone fine with baseband available and then suddenly it disappeared while the phone is turned on or after a reboot (which then means no more phone number, no more signal, call and data capability).
Exception: The only time the baseband stay put is with stock Odin image or Cyanogenmod rom. I don't know why specifically its okay with CyanogenMod roms. If I flash a non-CyanogenMod roms file that have modem.bin included within it, then it will not work, the baseband still goes missing, ie AOKP and Paranoid Android rom.
Things I have tried that doesn't fix the problem:
-Odin JDF or KB5 + repartition -> KB5 kernel & modem CWM patch -> CM7 -> ICS Passion -> CM10 -> SlimBean or AOKP
(immediately after flashing SlimBean the baseband is no longer detected, even though /radio/modem.bin exist)
(after flashing AOKP / Paranoid Android, the radio is detected, but while using the phone or after a reboot, the baseband goes undetected)
-manually deleting the modem.bin file from /radio, then flashing another rom that has modem.bin included (doesn't help, unless its CM10)
-fixing permissions in CWM
-Odin JDF -> Kies update to Android 2.2 -> CM7, etc.
-Switch between Froyo and GB bootloaders
-Switching sim cards
Other:
-I bought this one used, the IMEI of the device doesn't seem to match with the IMEI on the box that the buyer gave. I don't know if this means anything though.
-Also I don't know about EU bug, but this device can detect both internal storage and sdcard slot without problem, but could this be related?
-Could this be kernel related and is there any kernel recommended to flash?
Do anyone have an Odin image of just the modem that I can try flashing? I can not flash CWM modem patches to the JellyBean roms since the patches are only compatible with the older version of CWM.
I would be perfectly content with CM10 only in this device if I can figure out how to add the sliding brightness bar feature that is available from AOKP.

XXKL1 Pre rooted?

Hi All,
i've been trying a few roms and recently i tried to upgrade to a newer nightly build of CM7.
I got the Kernel panic upload mode message you get when you have installed a bootloader from an ICS rom (as i did when i was trying the XXLPB).
Thing is, i tried to reflashing XXKL1 (like i did in the past) and it seems to work ok but firmware seems to be pre-rooted. Not only that but USB debugging seems to be enabled by default (after the reboot from odin).
I downloaded this firmware twice from sammobiles and its the same. I downloaded XXKI3 and that seems to work ok.
anyone know what may be going on?
When i flash KL1 then i normally flash siyahkernel with CMW then i flash cm7 but now in this state that i'm in, once i install cm7 i get a kernel panic upload error even after

Curious issue - wi-fi not connection after flash CM10 and restore

Hi, I have a curious issue.
I flashed latest build of CyanogenMod 10 and I'm now unable to connect to wi-fi. I can see wi-fi SSID, I can connect, fill password, then phone says "Connecting..." but then it displays: "Saved. Secured with WPA/WPA2" and I'm unable to really connect.
What is curious: when I restore nand backup to ROM which was working, it is not working now. Also when I proceed full wipe, if does not help. What only helps, is flashing original ROM via ODIN. Then I can connect, I can root but when I install CM10 (any build), wi-fi is not working.
Any ideas? Before I ran on CM10 about 10 days without problem. What is not recovered via Clockwork Recovery?
P.S. I cannot connect to any wi-fi, not only at home and other devices are connected, password is correct and problem persists if I switch to open network.
Thanks.

The same thing happens to me!
I don't have any idea how to fix it...
There someone who can give us some light??
PS: It happens with paranoid roms too.
AFAIK this problem can only be solved by flashing a stock ICS ROM twice...once with bootloader option checked in ODin....this prob happens if you have flashed any JB leak...the JB leaks have a updated bootloader and in CM10 the bootloader is not touched..so if you flash a ICS ROM the bootloader is reverted back to ICS one..
Hope it answers some of your queries..
As stated above, you need to flash a stock ICS ROM with Odin, root and reinstall CM10. Then everything will be fine. This is a known issue for people moving from Jellybean leaks straight to CWM flashed alternative ROMs such as CM10.
Thanks, but I never used bootloader option in ODIN. How exactly I have to do it? Check bootloader, select TAR file, flash, then select PDA, select the same TAR file and flash again? Or I'm wrong>
EDIT: there is only checkbox "Phone Bootloader Update".
It works, thank you (both) very much!

I have the exact same problem!
Hello
As many other people, i have also the bootloader-problem.
Android Sysinfo (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.electricsheep.asi) shows me the version I9300XXALEF which seems to me as a ICS Bootloader.
Which Bootloader I have to use, and where I can get it?
Greetings
Christopher
As with other people I have had the same issue. Flashed Pacman Rom 2 wks ago and lost wifi connectivity, even though wifi showed as "saved and secured"
I tried to copy and paste the system/etc/wifi folder ( of stock ICS Rom that in which wifi worked ) with ES File Explorer but couldn't paste due to read only status of the system/etc/ files- I did a search but couldn't get around this.
In the end I:
1. Flashed stock ICS Rom with Odin which showed wifi working perfectly.
2. Then flashed the bootloader ( only ) of the ICS stock Rom with Odin ( I had to do this as in a previous attempt I only flashed the ICS Rom once and in the end the wifi didn't work)
3. Flashed CM10.1 nightly from ext sd card and gapps. Got a loop at the boot sequence so went into recovery and wipe/factory reset and rebooted
4. Voila! Wifi working now after 2 wks of stuffing around.

[Q] Is there an easier way to revert back to stock firmware from CM10.1

I'm running the latest CM10.1 nightlies but sometimes I still like to use the stock firmware. Is there an easier way to go about it than having to flash a different 4.1.2 rom/gapps to then be able to flash the Sammy firmware. Flashing direct on 4.2.1 with Mobile Odin leaves the phone in a constant mobile odin flashing loop. Then I have to flash a cwm recovery with Heimdall to get CM10.1 back. I've even tried to nandroid backup Sammy firmware but when in cwm recovery, the files can't be found due to the new folder structure of 4.2.1. As I use Linux I don't have desktop Odin so the only way I can flash at the moment is with Mobile Odin. Is the there an easier way to swap between them?
swap between roms
I believe that some roms accept dualboot.
I know about dual boot and have used it in the past but as of now CM10.1 is not dual boot compatible with the latest Siyah kernel, afaik.

I want my original Kernel back for Sky Vega 820

Hi. I have accidentally installed this baseband on my Sky Vega 820: "IM-A810K_ICS_Baseband FW212.zip".
Afterwards, when I installed CM10 jellybean ROM update via CWM recovery it installed correctly but did not load. The CM10 screen appears and the wheel rotates but then a blue screen appears showing "MDM Error" and the phone reboots automatically. This keeps on happening again and again and the ROM never loads.
I think the Kernel of my device is changed
I want to move back and install the original baseband for my device but I am unable to find it...
Please help.
you can restore the rom of other user of 820L through CWM..
sorry for my bad english..

Baseband is generally a "radio" type update, and not a ROM. What you did it seems, is install an ICS component, the tried installing a JB ROM.
Quick question. When you installed CM, did you do all your wipes and formats as generally required? If not, you need to go back into CWM, do your wipes, then install CM again.
Otherwise, I would suggest you try installing a stock factory rom for your device. This should take care of things.
Your baseband has been changed
I think your baseband has been changed. The easiest way to be back original version is install a stock rom .BINX your phone will be back to stock rom . Let try

[Q] Dual boot Android 4.1.2 and CM 10.1 possible?

I have been dual booting stock Android 4.0.4 and CM 9.1 on my S2 for awhile now with minimal issues. However, some small things have stopped working correctly, and since I noticed that both stock Android 4.1.2 and CM 10.1 are now available for the S2, I figured it was about time to switch to those.
I fought with this all last night though but couldn't get it to work. I have been trying the following steps:
Download Android 4.1.2 stock rom from sammobile.com and flash to device using Odin 3.07. Boot up and verify everything is working correctly.
Download Siyah kernel (I'm unfortunately not sure what version as I am at work and it is on my computer at home) and flash to device using Odin 3.07. Boot up and verify everything is working correctly.
Download cm-10.1.3-i777.zip from download.cyanogenmod.org and load image on internal SD card. Boot into CWM recovery. Choose to install 2nd ROM from internal SD card and select that zip file. Verify CWM says installation completes successfully.
Boot both primary and secondary roms and verify they work correctly.
My verifications succeed until step 4, in which both fail. The primary rom (stock Android) gets stuck in an infinite loop loading the AT&T startup image. I just get a blank screen when booting the secondary rom. I've tried these steps a few times with minor variations with the exact same result.
Should I be able to get this to work? If so, what Kernel do I need? My web research seems to be inconsistant as to whether this can work or not. I haven't found anyone that definitively stated they've done this on an S2.
I did find a post for the "Googy" kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270158) that claims this should be possible, but the instructions on how to load it are less that complete. It just says "Flash Googy-Max Kernel", but I'm not sure how to do that. I only know how to flash a kernel using Odin, but Odin needs a .tar.md5 or similar file. The Googy kernel comes in zip format and contains a META-INF directory and boot.img file at its root, and Odin doesn't appear to support that format. Trying to load the zip from CWM after loading the Siyah kernel had ... less than desirable results.
