google voice for voice mail!! - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
for some reason I cannot get google voice to stick as my voicemail career. No matter what I think after a restart maybe - it sets itself back to normal tmobile voice mail that you have to call the number. The only way to get it back is to unjoin google voice with my mobile number - rejoin it online and put in the special character #(numbers here)#
Anyone else get this problem? All other settings stick without any issue. I'm stock rom and rooted (didn't even flash a stock rom - just the stock rom the phone came with)

Calls do not go through google voice but my carrier. HELP!

Hi guys, I have installed google voice on my HTC hero (UK version), which I flashed VillainROM 5.2 Rom. And I am using AT&T. I set google voice to ask me every time if I want to use google voice to place the call. Well, it does prompt the dialog and ask me, but no matter what I choose, NO call actually goes through google voice, but my carrier instead. And there's no voice which tells me the rate for this call, and which is expected. This already cost me about $50 since I made an international call while google voice was not really working........
Does anyone have the same issue? And is there a solution for this?
Anybody had the same problem? Help please! This really bothers me...

[Q] Google Voice on 2.1

Posting this to see if anyone else has this, and if any one knows how to make it work.
I use Google Voice for my international calls, but after the upgrade the dialer takes over, Google voice can not be used to "only make international calls"
i have to use "ask for every call" which is not the best solution.
[EDIT] that option does not work either
I'm having the exact same problem.
I even made several international phone calls, thinking that maybe Google Voice was running in the background... now I'll get hit with the charges for international calls from AT&T :s
Any solution to this problem?
I'm using the X10i 2.1 Global firmware on a X10a (AT&T)
hope this helps

unfortunately the suggested process does not work
I found a way to make calls by google voice. I went to the browser, went to the google voice website, and from there, I placed the call. Then I received the phone call from my google number, and it connected me to the number I was calling.
It's more troublesome than just using the app, but it is a workaround.
Any other ideas or solutions?

When you do that, aren't you still using the GSM network and your sim card to have the call connected?
I am having identical problems (2.1 Nordic) and trying to use google voice over WiFi to avoid using network minutes but Sony's dialer takes over... hopefully sony or GV will update and fix this real soon... very frustrating

I use Google Voice for international calls... so I'm still using my GSM minutes, but just as a local call, not with international rates.
Have same problem. Cost me one expensive international phone call.
Generic FW, Build 2.0.A.0504 - X10i/ATT USA
GV screen comes up, then native dialer takes over. Have used workaround posted above, but naturally would just like to be able to use it as intended.
Just a heads up to anyone who has updated to 2.1.
I have the Rogers 2.1 and using AT&T as the carrier. GV does not work for ANY of my outgoing phone calls even when I specify to use GV only.
If the issue is SE's dialer, is there a way to revert back to the generic dialer?
Thanks
I'm also having this issue, only after recently upgrading my X10 to the generic 2.1 software. I wonder if anyone has found a solution yet?
I've had this problem since day 1, since I'm from Canada and use my GV to call my american / long distance friends. I have had to use the website workaround since day one, and it really bugs me. When I was working from the iPhone app, it worked properly (call me, then call the number I'm trying to call). Since switching to my X10a, I can't have it just call me, it uses the dialer directly.
So, I use up about 100-200k of my data plan to make the call. Not a big deal, just kind of annoying.

[Q] Not able to make phone calls with google voice

Has anybody had the same problem after upgrading to 2.1?
I get to option when I pick the international number in the phone book but then it makes the call without using google voice even if I pick the option to make it WITH google voice.
You mean you were able to under 1.6?
Google Voice may need a US proxy if you're outside the US.
for me it was useless under 1.6 and it's no better under 2.1
just a headsup
Making phone calls using Google voice does not work with the 2.1 update for the Xperia. It does not matter whether you want use Google voice to make all calls or international only. Somehow SE's software engineers changed the dial app in such a way that Google Voice does not work directly anymore.
Someone suggested a work around by going to the web browser and using Google voice through the browser to connect your phone calls (that is, have GV call your phone before connecting you to the other party).
On the other hand, the 2.1 update for the X10 allows me to use the Skype app over wifi here in the U.S. (something that my new Samsung Captivate cannot do). Oh well.

[Q] Cant send/receive texts thru stock, only can with Google Voice

Hello everyone,
I am rooted and locked runinng MOF 2.3.5 ish v2.0.
Yesterday AM I started receiving an error (unable to send text) when trying to send texts through GO SMS. I also received the same error when using the stock messaging app. Then I discovered I was also not receiving texts. I can send and receive texts through Google Voice. I integrated my Google number with Sprint several months ago. I had made no changes to Google voice settings, or my text settings in several months. This just came out of the blue.
I tried restoring a backup from Titanium, that did not work. I tried de-linking Google voice from my phone and that did not work. I uninstalled GO SMS- still nothing. I have since re-linked Google voice to my Sprint # as it is the only way I have of receiving my messages.
Today I called Sprint. After a few tests with no luck, they instructed me to accept the OTA 2.3.5 update. They claim that one of the issues fixed in this OTA update was a fix of this "known issue with SMS". I told them I did not want to do that because it would perma lock my boot loader. They also suggested having them de-link Google Voice from my Sprint #. They said that if they de-linked Google Voice, I would not be able to re-link Google voice to my number later and that was a "known issue" with Google.
So, I have 3 options...
1) Keep it as is until upgrade time, but of course Google Voice does not have MMS support. And Google Voice leaves a lot to be desired with SMS threading and customization.
2) Take the OTA upgrade and "hope" it solves my texting issue, but of course that opens another can of worms with the bootloader.
3) Have them de-link Google Voice and hope that works. However, I enjoy having one number when I travel, etc. And if it doesn't work, according to them I wont be able to re-sync and then I will not have any access to my texts.
Has anyone else ran into this issue? I didnt see the exact issue in a Google search.
Thanks in advance
I also use Google voice to manage/backup my voicemails and texts remotely. I hate the google voice app. I only use it in it rare situations where I have no signal and no roaming available, but have wifi.
This has happened to me a couple times, I'll notice my gvoice has texts that my phone never received via SMS.
What is your preffered network set to? I've noticed my prefered network mode changes mysteriously on this phone. I'll just set it back normal and all my missed sms come flooding in.

Thanks for the reply. I normally set to automatic. I just checked and it was changed to any cmda. I will play with the options and see if that helps. Thanks again.
type in *#*#4636#*#* on the phone dialer

Hello, it was on CDMA Auto (prl). What do you generally set yours on for domestic use?
Your answer got me thinking. Saturday afternoon I removed a sim card from another country because I was here in the us and didn't need it. So when I got home I put the sim card back in and switched network to automatic and then all my texts arrived. Thanks again

Google NOW keeps calling contacts via Google Voice and the call always fails

When I say 'OK Google, call so and so' my phone says 'Calling so and so' and then on the screen it says Calling via Google Voice. I am not sure why it keeps trying to call them via Google Voice. I have the Google Voice app on my phone, but in the settings I specified not to use Google Voice for any phone calls.
UPDATE: I figured out why it keeps trying to call via Google Voice. This is because Google Now keeps putting a + before the persons phone number as if it is going to be an international call. Then the call fails.
I have a Nexus 6P running the latest Android Version 6.0.1. However, I feel like this is most likely a problem with the latest version of android / google now.
Does anyone else experience this issue or have any ideas on how to troubleshoot it?
