My player disconnects from wifi almost every minute on the minute. It's the only device in my house that is a pain in the ass. Any suggestions?
Are you using a Belkin router by chance?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
That must be your router, I haven't seen anyone else having this problem
You have to go to the advanced settings in wifi on your player and set it manually. That will keep you from losing connection

I have Uverse and my wifi could not be better. It could be the wifi modem or the wifi drivers/files are faulty or just do not agree with each other. I remember when I would plug my player into my computer via usb, the wifi connectivity would screw up on my desktop if I did not turn wifi off on my player for some reason. The problem will probsnly be easy to fix, if it is the player tou can send it in to samsumg and they should fix the wifi problem, if it is your wifi I csnnot help you there.

As obscureworld mentioned, this was an issue with mainly Belkin routers that was discovered back during the release of the galaxy players. There where a variety of fixes that had various success for different people, including; changing band type in router settings, changing router lease time, setting a static ip, etc. I would just mess around a little with your router settings to see if that solves it. You could always try a new router if that doesn't help, since they're pretty cheap nowadays.

I got my GS2 not too long ago, and from the start, it's had issues connecting to my house router. I've tried the wifi elsewhere, and it works just fine.
I have about 7-8 other devices that connect to my router in my house, and they all work. Why doesn't my GS2 work? It's still on stock rom.
I have Verizon FIOS and the plain router they give you, if that matters. Looking for answers before the 30 day window if possible.
Have you tried restarting your router?

Or check for a firmware update for your router.

Is your router a D-Link? The SGS2 hates D-Link's. It has a fondness for Netgear's.

I'll do it now since it sounds simple enough.

It's an Actiontec. Never heard of that brand.
Is there anything else I can do or check to figure out this problem?
Nvm. I restarted the modem, forgot the connection, then reconnected it. It worked, though it's kind of a weak signal. Thanks given to those who posted.
not the first time I've read that people were having weak wifi signals on their SGS2. I have yet to experience this myself so I'm guessing its incompatible with some routers. I have a verizon fios router and it works great.
I've noticed weaker signals on my S II compared to my captivate and my wife's Atrix. Nothing huge.
That's off a westell 327 dsl router.

I've had no problem connected to secured wifi, but whenever an open wifi is available and I get the notification, when I try to click on it, I just get a Settings crash / force close notification. If I try to manually go into settings and into wifi, it does the same thing. Phone is unrooted - anyone else having this issue?
wifi fix? not for me
I found somewhere online that you can punch *#*#526#*#* into your GSII, and it fixes wifi problems. When I do this, it does begin a driver download, but it never seems to finish. I'm still having the force close issue when trying to open settings to connect to some open wifi sources.
Trying to help a buddy on his thunderbolt apply this zip file leak to fix the hotspot drop problem
It downloaded as 2.11.605.19.zip
It's supposed to be the fix for the hotspot
But I don't use htc at the moment
I tried to rename it as update.zip and apply as update in recovery but no luck
What's the process I'd anyOne knows about thIs new leak fix
I'm having the same problem with my thunderbolt I put the eternity rom beats edition on and i even downloaded a wifi tether app. it connects but doesn't send or receive packets
I'm just now getting around to looking at tethering my TBolt. Just wondering, does this app/update require Verizon tethering subscription?
If you download and use the wireless tether app it has to be setup properly to work. Under device profile select thunderbolt. Scroll down and select router fix.

Posting just in case someone else searching for a solution runs across this thread:
Seems like solutions for getting wifi tethering to work is all over the place. For me, wifi tethering for root seemed to start, and other devices could see it, but the devices could never connect to the Internet. In my case, switching to open garden solved the issue.
I haven't had any issues with any form of tethering with this phone. I was even able to share my internet from the phone, to a net book, and then to my ps3 via a wifi router. I know a lot of others have been having problems with it though and Im wonder if its possibly a hardware difference between the phones.

How would it be a hardware difference when the phones are the same

Sometimes they use parts manufactured by different people. If someone can make a part cheaper then chances are they'll use it. Especially, when a device has been out for a while or out of production. This happened when I had an Eris. They changed the touchscreen manufacturer and some people started to find in some roms the touchscreen wouldnt work.

It Works ok if im less than 5 meters away from server. But anything over that and its unusable. I work about 10 meters from the server. And I get at least 2 - 3 bars of signal out of 4. And I can't even post a comment on here. The speed is very fast for about 30 seconds and then ridiculously slow. It also struggles to connect. Tries about 3 or 4 times before it connects. I'm running cm10 on s3 but have this problem on stock, omega and checkrom. I had simular problems with the s2 aswell but not s1. I don't want to use wifi kill as its my work and it might not solve the problem. Is this the s3 working on networks with multiple apns? Is there a code I can call to turn off power saving ?? Can't force to 5ghz either.
Some advice would be massively helpful. I am getting very frustrated.
Thanks in advanced

I believe the problem lies in network or in the wifi router. Maybe it's overloaded, try on-off cycling the router and see if it works then?
I kinda doubt that the issue is in the phone
I've fixed it now mate. Well chuffed. Don't know what it was really. But the method I used in above thread worked. It all started when I first rooted and flashed omega. Cm9 got rid of the authentication error (so it seems Sammy is at fault there) as for the WiFi range of about 3 meters and no connectivity after that distance. I'm not sure. Perhaps a problem deep in the settings I could not find. But completely wiping all settings worked. Not ideal. But confirmed working all day at work. So maybe a omega fault I don't know. Jus happy to have fixed it

It can be many problems! Maybe the ROM that you are runing has poor Wi-Fi support or maybe the phone is just "getting old" or maybe its the Wi-Fi set that sends you the signal!
I got a s3 which is not old but I've fixed it now. Thanks

Has anyone done this or is it even possible? I've tried using the Wifi tether app, Foxfi and Open Garden but no luck at all. I have a Trendnet gaming adapter N wireless. The wifi device does not connect to my phone no matter what I try to do, it shows on the PC setup showing my phone but no luck. Only Open Garden was able to detect it but no data was pass to the adapter. Im rooted running the Adreneline CM9 rom. I have no trouble connecting other devices to my phone as a Wifi Hotspot. Reasons for the adapter, have some devices that have slow wifi cards (PS3 is my main reason) so this should speed things up gradually.
Any help would be appreciate it. Had no luck in Googling unless I did something wrong.

Did all that and no go. The WiFi tether app is not showing the adapter at all. Dont understand why not.
fHas anyone done this before? Every other wifi device is able to connect with no problems but the wifi adapters don't seem to connect to it. Tried two different one's and no luck.
Are you sure you are using infrastructure mode?
Edit: nevermind. It was already asked.

I use a Linksys Wireless-B adapter regularly. I have it plugged into my WAN port on my house router, let's me run all the devices in the house over one connection. I have plugged it directly into the Xbox 360 without issue also.
Matter of fact I'm posting this from my PC over it now.

As above.....also router security settings might be causing a problem, I had that, in fact most Wi-Fi problems with the S3 seem to be router side from my observations, but that is just my humble opinion
On my old HTC HD2 after a Rom upgrade it wouldn't detect WiFi networks on channel 13. Our router was just on that channel. In the phone's WiFi settings go to Advanced and you should see something like channel range. Best of luck
