[Q] How To Get Kernel for ICS from stock rom when not having Kernel Sources. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everybody,
I want to know that how can i get the kernel from stock rom or any other method for rom development especially for ICS development for our Device i.e. Micromax A85 a re-branded model of K-Touch w700/Cherry Magnum 2x it is an Tegra-2 Dual-Core Device and still running on Gingerbread and now we want ICS :crying: . But the only thing which we are not having is kernel source and Micromax is not giving it to us as well .So people please help us.Please!!!!!!!
And if you can help us in any different way like helping as porting rom from any device to on our device, Please let me know!!!! :cyclops:

Micromax is ****.
We fought long enough for kernel source...got nothing..
My A70 has Froyo...we couldn't get touch to work in CM7...it booted though..
I don't think there's any hope in the kernel source matter.

Well Bro. You are right i have fought for those kernel too but we didn't get anything at last and they kept deleting our posts from their fb page.
And for your device i found this on Xda while surfing a long time ago and thinks that you might want to give it a try........
" Micromax uses qualcomm chipsets. You can find their kernel here. Just look at your device's build.prop for ro.product.board. For example, my Micromax A57 uses msm7627a chipset. "

I was referring about Micromax models that uses Qualcomm chipsets, as most of them nowadays release Qualcomm based CPU.
Regarding, Nvidia Tegra 2, search for a similar device (maybe Samsung/Sony/Motorola etc.) that uses this CPU, and see whether they have got any custom kernel. Maybe it helps regarding directing to actual sources.

Isn't Gigabyte GS202 based on MT6577 ?
I have that phone and it says GS202+ (maybe the plus is the difference?) and it's a MT6577 Dual Core 1GHz whereas MT6575 is a single core.
I wish someone would make a CWM for these phones.

Sounds great but this part worries me. Doesn't this kill the manufacturers recovery which is installed on the phone by default and which is used for non OTA official upgrades? If this kills that and something goes wrong with the installation are you still able to boot into recovery of the phone? I'm a bit worried that I could brick the phone.

I've got a reply from Gigabyte saying they won't be upgrading the GS202/GS202+ from ICS to JB but I was thinking;
The Maya M1 which is the latest model running JB is using the same MT6577 as GS202+. The main difference is the camera (8 Vs. 5 Mpixel) and the higher resolution screen. Maybe it would be possible to combine the two official firmwares into one new for GS202+ JB. It is an almost untouched Google UI.
Just a thought. any comments...?

Hi, My name is Mark David. I am holding right now a phone you have never heard before. Its called the iNO One . At first when i bought the phone, I went to the ino wikia site where I could root, install the clockworkmod recovery and flash his custom rom. The phone is similar to the Lenovo A750 and I successfully was able to port the Lewa OS developer version rom from the official website into the iNO One.
Unfortunately, while I was reading up the manufacturer facebook, I soon found out that they will not be providing the source code for this phone.
I hope you can teach or help me to port other roms like e.g CM10.1 for this phone using the source code.
I hope that you can help me

You can search forums, there are some guides on how to make a kernel using source code nd if u succeed in making a cm10 for mt6575 then I think u will be first one to do that nd then hopefully we can port that to our mt6575 phones!

[Q] [Xolo Q700] Can I port Android 4.3? How?

I'm a complete noob in Android development, but I'm a quick learner, so bear with me.
I was thinking that the TRIM feature of the Android 4.3 is kind of important to have, but I'm missing it out with Android 4.2.1 on my Xolo Q700.
My device has a MediaTek MT6589M chipset with quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU and PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU. There's a gig of RAM.
I looked all over the internet and couldn't find a ROM that takes me to 4.3, so I decided I'll try to port it to my device.
I know that Google provides the source code for Android 4.3, so is there any way I could port it to my device?
I'd be glad if you helped, expect me to bug you with questions because I really want this to happen.
Leave links to useful instructions too, if you can!

Welcome to the Android development world,
Well firstly, is there a ROM available for your device?
If there is, porting a 4.3 ROM would be possible, and made easy.

I don't think so. Can I extract the company-provided ROM from my phone? There might be a recovery ROM somewhere on the internet, I can find it if there's no option to extract the one in my phone right now.
Is it really possible to port 4.3?
Is this thread closed?

[Q] GB Device Tree convert to CM

So, ive got source's of android to my smartphone thanks to kindness of my device company. Its source for gingerbread 2.3.4 i want to take the device tree from it and convert it to CM11.0 and here is the thing. How to do this? What do i need to know? Is there any guide?
Third post on this forum and none got replied? Rly?
Well you could have done some search before asking
As far as i know you can't convert your android soruce to CM , but you can port a CM ROM in your device but since you have GB your only able to port CM7 , also next time write your device name so i know what we are talking about

A lil more search and i was able to find that your device has the same chip as Samsung GALAXY mini 2 , go to galaxy mini 2 forum and ask there if someone can port CM11 to your device , If this helped press the THANKS button
My phone is GSmart G1345. Samsung galaxy ace have pretty smilar hardware so as htc wildfire s, and those devices have already CM11 develoed. If i take device tree from their sources, and do some changes, could it work ? Or maybe port it somehow but i dont know what base rom to use
Btw. Ive done already a lot of research but my smartphone is pretty rare. If you could point me where to start off it would be great

First of all , nop you don't have same specs as the phone you said , You can only port roms or kernels from phones who have same Chipset and Samsung galaxy ace or wildfire have a Qualcomm MSM7227 Snapdragon and you have Qualcomm MSM7227T Snapdragon so its not the same , maybe you can port roms HTC ChaCha and Samsung GALAXY mini 2 since they have the same chip as yours
As for porting roms check in the devolper thread i think theres a tool there that helps you in the process but you need a kernel first and i don't know how to port that , also i don't understand why do you want CM10 or 11 since they would lag so badly in a 800mhz device

From what i read Samsung galaxy mini 2 have MSM7227A click. Also can you port gingerbread to CM? I readed that it needs to be same android ver. so i probably need compile from source right? Or am i wrong?
Also comparing MSM7227T to MSM7227 thers only a 200mHz diffrence beetwen those chipset

http://system-on-a-chip.findthebest.com/l/254/Qualcomm-MSM7227T#devices&s=2oFpnh&st=2JobHv (that's why i said maybe cuz this site says that galaxy_mini_2 uses MSM7227T but you can try with HTC ChaCha )
Also you don't port GB to android , you port CM7(that uses GB as base) to your device so you have a custom android rom , also do you have your kernel source cuz you will need that for sure (if you don't have that the chance that you can port the rom are less than 1% , maybe using the boot.img from your room would work)
Better ask in galaxy_mini_2 section or in HTC ChaCha thread , maybe someone there would help you to port a rom and a working kernel
I never tried to port roms so i can't port one for you , let alone even if i tried i don't own your device so it would take a lot of time (and that's something i don't have)

yeah but it depends on people workig on it , for example my HD2 has only 1ghz of max frequency but since it has alot of Roms and custom kernels , im able to overclock it beyond 1.5 , i even was able to get 2ghz on it so it depends on the kernel , if someone modify your phone kernel he may be able to achive higher speeds

[Q] How to find an Architectural similar mobile device for CM ports

Hi,
I have been planning to port cyanogenmod for Micromax A121 Elanza. As of date, there is no custom rom for this model. So, I decided to build my own cyanogenmod for this model via the guides given in How To Port CyanogenMod (wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_porting_intro) . In this page, it is given "architecturally similar to other devices that are already on the market and have existing CM ports. If you find an "ancestor" or "sibling" of your device, much of the work may already be done for you!".
My question is 'How to find an architectural similar model for the aforementioned mobile model?' What components (processor, screen size, pixels, RAM, Memory) matters for architectural similarity? Please help me to get a mobile model which is similar to A121 and having CM port.
Thanks in advance...
Most important is the device's chipset and vendor.
It seems that the A121 is based on a Snapdragon 200 msm8212 SoC. So it would be optimal if you could find another micromax device using the msm8212.
You could for example look at the Wikipedia page for Snapdragon processors.

Hi Uroc327,
I am planning to port CM rom of Moto G to Micromax A121, as both have almost same chipset configuration and screen size, except the vendor (Motorola-Micromax). Is it possible to port Moto G's CM rom to Micromax A121?
It should be definitely possible. Just depends on the invested time
Basically as the Moto G has the same SoC you can reuse most of the HAL stuff (hardware/ directory). But you will still need to handle vendor and device specific stuff like the kernel, prebuilt binaries or some config files for example.
But seems doable to me
Edit: looks like I looked up a wrong chipset for your device.. According to the screenshot you took you have a Snapdragon 400 msm8226 chipset.

Thanks for your immediate response, Uroc327.
Sorry, I have just swapped the configuration shots in the image. Actually, the one you previously mentioned is the correct (Snapdragon 200 chipset). Could you please elaborate on configuring kernel, prebuilt binaries for the targeted device(Micromax A121)? I have following components ready with me,
Stock ROM of Micromax A121
CyanogenMod 12 of Moto G
A system with Java,.net & Android SDK
Already I have ported these ROM(by just copying and replacing some files), but I am getting stuck at boot loop. Where I am doing wrong? What may be the root cause of boot loop?
Thanks in advance.
Looking at a CyanogenMod tree for the Moto E (which uses the Snapdragon 200) it seems like CyanogenMod sources contain lots of hardware handling code out of the box.
I doubt that the kernel for the moto g will work for a completely other device (other vendor and even other chipset). But I'm no expert in kernels so I can't provide real details here.
Actually Micromax has to provide the kernel source, if they've changed anything.
I'm also having some hard times figuring out, what I can build from source and what I need to copy from stock. Maybe there exists a tool somewhere to determine just that but I didn't find it yet (if it even exists).
Regarding your bootloop: do you know, id adb shows up? So how far does the system get before it reboots.
And what files did you replace?
Probably the ramdisk is somehow doing the wrong stuff. I could imagine that there may be some props, partitions or other device specific settings which were correct for the Moto G but are completely incorrect for your device.

Can someone send me the link for stock ROM for micromax A12

Everything is working fine except for front camera & Bluetooth
Plz can anyone know how to fix this?
I have tried many lib files, but non of them r working
Plz help on it to fix this issue
Anyone plz
Your issue is gonna be a kernel issue and without the source there is nothing you can do. It is a common issue with devices running that chip set. That's why developers don't touch devices with it.

Yes I'm saying that without a proper kernel then there will be things that just can't be fixed. Normally things like the camera and wifi radios. You might be able to hack your way through it but it will take weeks of searching through the code.
The kernel source code is the base code that is required by law to be published for any device that runs a Linux kernel (any android device) the issue with that chip set is they are based in China and dont respect copyright laws or the GPL.

If it's still actual for you (2 years, but still...), mediatek has laid off some kernel and AOSP sources for mt65xx series. Also check out this repo: github.com /bq/aquaris-E5, it has some code for your chip and other Mediatek stuff.
Also you have few other options:
Build your ROM around existing (official) kernel, adding more drivers as .ko's. I've had certain success adding some USB drivers like that.
Use some .so's from your original ROM. Sometimes manufacturers don't provide sources for libcamera.so/libcamera_client.so (camera), libhardware.so/libhardware_legacy.so (wifi and some minor stuff, like vibromotor)
