I'm a complete noob in Android development, but I'm a quick learner, so bear with me.
I was thinking that the TRIM feature of the Android 4.3 is kind of important to have, but I'm missing it out with Android 4.2.1 on my Xolo Q700.
My device has a MediaTek MT6589M chipset with quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU and PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU. There's a gig of RAM.
I looked all over the internet and couldn't find a ROM that takes me to 4.3, so I decided I'll try to port it to my device.
I know that Google provides the source code for Android 4.3, so is there any way I could port it to my device?
I'd be glad if you helped, expect me to bug you with questions because I really want this to happen.
Leave links to useful instructions too, if you can!

Welcome to the Android development world,
Well firstly, is there a ROM available for your device?
If there is, porting a 4.3 ROM would be possible, and made easy.

I don't think so. Can I extract the company-provided ROM from my phone? There might be a recovery ROM somewhere on the internet, I can find it if there's no option to extract the one in my phone right now.
Is it really possible to port 4.3?

Dude ,For porting/devloping 4.3/4.4 rom for xolo q700 needs Kernel sources of mtk6589 too , google releases the 4.43/4.4 sources but without OEM kernel sources its not possible for now! Mediatek is not releasing the sources ,thats the main reason!

Hello Everybody,
I want to know that how can i get the kernel from stock rom or any other method for rom development especially for ICS development for our Device i.e. Micromax A85 a re-branded model of K-Touch w700/Cherry Magnum 2x it is an Tegra-2 Dual-Core Device and still running on Gingerbread and now we want ICS :crying: . But the only thing which we are not having is kernel source and Micromax is not giving it to us as well .So people please help us.Please!!!!!!!
And if you can help us in any different way like helping as porting rom from any device to on our device, Please let me know!!!! :cyclops:
Micromax is ****.
We fought long enough for kernel source...got nothing..
My A70 has Froyo...we couldn't get touch to work in CM7...it booted though..
I don't think there's any hope in the kernel source matter.

Well Bro. You are right i have fought for those kernel too but we didn't get anything at last and they kept deleting our posts from their fb page.
And for your device i found this on Xda while surfing a long time ago and thinks that you might want to give it a try........
" Micromax uses qualcomm chipsets. You can find their kernel here. Just look at your device's build.prop for ro.product.board. For example, my Micromax A57 uses msm7627a chipset. "

I was referring about Micromax models that uses Qualcomm chipsets, as most of them nowadays release Qualcomm based CPU.
Regarding, Nvidia Tegra 2, search for a similar device (maybe Samsung/Sony/Motorola etc.) that uses this CPU, and see whether they have got any custom kernel. Maybe it helps regarding directing to actual sources.

Thnx Man, I will try to find the source.
I will like to work with vtelca v8200+, its a ICS android phone dual core quadcomm, the mannufacture said that is a s4 snapdragon but i'm not sure.
I want to build at least a custom kernel but i'm confuse about the source... its a "msm8625" or a "msm7627a"?
I'm reading the tutorials, if i miss something... i only need the source of the chipset right?
Thxs in advance!
Hello,
I am pretty sure this is a fairly common question and everyone would like to have kk on his device. I can use google to find out most of the tasks i am about to do, but i have to ask first.
I have a pretty anonymous device, a Chinese phone, rebranded in Europe. It features a hardware similar to this: mediatek MT6577
However the manufacturers only released a 4.0.4 ICS Android for it, and the comunity managed to develop a 4.2.2 JB. It is important to know that other manufacturers have rebranded this phone as well.
It is known as Allview p5 duo, Fly IQ441, and other brands.
What would i need to make a kitkat image for this model? How hard is it to "port" a 4.0.4 kernel to 4.4? What tools would i need, and also what knowledge?
I hope some dev sees this post, sheds some light over the issue and points me in the right direction. I really want to learn about Android OS developement and i feel this is the best way.
Thank you !
Hi
Welcome to what im hoping will become a popular project amongst owners of Rockchip devices. Over at rkDroid we are aiming to create the first custom rom for the rk3026.
We really are starting at the bottom with this one as there is so little info available about these devices. The aim will be a 2 stage project :
Stage 1 : Cooked stock rom
Stage 2 : KitKat
We want to get as many people involved as we can. This means addressing ALL levels of skill. This is why there are 2 stages.
Stage 1 :The 'cooked rom' - This will be for beginners to contribute to. It could be themes, app suggestions, tweaks, etc. They all go into a custom rom and no one is better than another. Anyone can get involved, even if they dont have a Rockchip device. Icons, Themes, etc. They ALL count.
Stage 2 :'KitKat' - I have the source for the kernel and Android build for KK on the 3026. This means we can (in theory) build KK for it. Rockchip released a press release a few months ago saying the 3188 & 3026 WILL get KK. So far the 3026 has been lacking in this. rkDroid aims to bridge that gap and get a KK build out there for these devices. Im no pro when it comes to building Android or kernels. Ive done a few but im in no way a 'guru'. Im also not stupid. This stage of the project WILL require people with some knowledge of building Android, etc.
Overall, the aim of rkDroid is to bring Rockchip device users together to share info, solve problems, build roms, etc. Our site aims to be a popular resource for Rockchip tablets (No TV sticks or Mini PCs yet, sorry guys).
We dont only support the rk3026, We also have info/roms/etc for the other Rockchip devices like the rk3066, rk3188, etc. We will be aiming to create roms for these too once we get more support.
The bottom line is that if you own a Rockchip device and want to be involved in creating a custom rom for it then get involved with us. Whatever level you are at you can have an input in this project and we welcome everyone. n00b or bo$$, its all the same to us, There is a place for everyone at rkDroid.
Let us know if your interested in this project and lets see if we can beat Rockchip by getting our own KK build out before them
did this rom can change size storage sytem
in fact on rk3026 MD706B tablet 8GO/1Go
we have
1 Go for system
1Go for internal sotage
and 5.6 for internat SD : nand flash
can we use 1 giga from those 5.6 to add them to internal storage like on samsung 16g tablket hey have 3G for internal storage

I flashed your ROM from rkdroid here with 3.0.36+([email protected]) #69 kernel. Rom is really fast but only problem is that wifi doesn't work. If I try to turn wifi bar on it will automatic slide to off position. It says that "turning wifi on" but nothing happens. I can't flash my stock rom back because my TWRP backup is corrupted (system part is missing).
Can you help me?

Hello, dear XDA members
I have a simple question: is porting KK ROM's to that specific chip difficult, or not really?
I'm struggling with 4.1 on my "not-so-popular" Pentagram Combo 4 Core and I'd like to make CM port of android's 4.4 instance.
Most important technical stuff:
Chipset: 8225Q
RAM: 1GB
Bootloader: unlocked by default
Screen res.: 480p
I'd be very thankful for any advices, what to do, where to begin.
And of course if someoned like to create it by himself/herself - that would be just pure awesomeness
Cheers, Mike
Little bump, hope it's not considered as bad manners
