Hey everyone,
I am running the stock AT&T ICS rom (wish I never downloaded it after having rooted my phone when it originally had GB 2.3) and went about rooting my phone via odin and downloading the appropriate TWRP files (based off what I read here).
While I can't seem to get it rooted, it seems that I now have a count of 1 for custom binaries...what did I do wrong? Is there a way to turn back that counter?
Anyone want to point me to a link for rooting stock ICS Notes, as most of what is in the forum refers to stock GB phones ?

Links to rooting, roms, counter reset, hookers, mods, themes, etc
It puts the lotion on its skin!

My Galaxy S2 is rooted and I'm one of those weirdoes that actually likes flashing roms based on stock Android. I'm basically wanting to see see what the stock Android ICS is like without unrooting my phone. Is there a list of Rooted stock Android roms on this site? Or any others for that matter?
Sorry if there blatantly are, but I've tried searching the forums and even google for the past couple of days, and most results seem flooded with ICS leaks, or mods of leaks. I'm looking for official releases that I can use without unrooting my phone. Also any Roms based on official stock ICS, with bloatware removed, but fully functioning stock apps like camera, gallery and swype would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently using Vivaldi 4 Seasons 1.0, which is perfect for my needs. Something similar to this but ICS would be ideal (Already tried 4 seasons 2.0 and didn't like it).
Cheers

Apart from the list of firmware and descriptions posted as stickies etc no .
You need to use the defunct art of search and read .

Wont happen official will unroot

They are in the development section again you will have to read the rom description to decide what you want .

Hello everyone!
Yesterday I got SGS2 as a replacement to my beloved SGS1 which I sold to my friend. I've read some FAQ's but I'm still unsure about some things. Can you please throw some light on my concerns?
1. Installing official firmwares via odin will NOT increase the flash counter, right? I would like to replace my branded Orange with vanilla ROM.
2. My phone has new GB 2.3.6 (branded Orange BVKL1) so I won't be able to reset flash counter with USB JIG after loading rooted kernel. If I decide to stay with GB I have to load old bootloader, right? For ICS I should use Triangle Away?
3. Is there /efs folder and how to back it up? Do I need to?
4. Is it worth upgrading to Samsung ICS or it's still too buggy? I'm used to GB and I can use it few months more. I prefer to have stable ROM with light battery usage rather than latest features that are not polished.
5. Can you recommend me some good GB and ICS kernel? I'm looking for something similar to Semaphore. I don't care about overclockig (phone is super smooth, comparing to SGS) but I would like to have deep idle and Voodoo Color (is it avalilable for SGS2?). Is Hardcore kernel OK? I used it in SGS, but it was very long time ago.

1. Installing official firmwares will not increase your flash counter. The thing that increases your flash counter is custom kernels.
2. If you have a USB jig i would flash the old bootloader reset the counter and then flashback to the ICS bootloader if you wish to have it. I did this yesterday and the old bootloader had no problems booting in CM9.
3. I havent backed up my EFS folder but people do suggest that you do. I know there are apps out there to do this but i haven't looked in to it so i cant really comment.
4. I have used the sammy ICS and it is stable. battery however isn't if you stick to the stock kernel. raffaele88 has a very nice and stable sammy based (LP7) Rom in the dev section which i have found to be the best custom ICS sammy based rom atm.
5. For kernels most popular is probably Siyah or N.E.A.K. they have both ISC and GB versions. Hardcores kernel is meant to be good but i have never used it so again i cant comment.

Welcome to the sgs2 forums.
There's a Q&A section if you didn't notice...
I recommend you install XWLA4 from this thread using odin. It's the last GB rom for SGS2 and it's blazing fast without any known issues. It will debrand your phone and update to the newest version.
Don't bother with custom kernels for now. You will have great batterylife even with the stock kernel. If you're ready for them, the most popular ones are Siyah, Speedmod and NEAK.
Currently there is no software method to remove the triangle and custom binary counter on GB but on ICS you will manage with Triangle Away, so if you want to root your LA4 you will have to get a jig to reset the binary counter.
For now I don't think there's any reason for you to upgrade to ICS as it is slower overall and drains the battery more.
I have both the sgs1 and 2 and gingerbread is the way to go on both of them for now. Not until there's proper hardware acceleration for the browser at least.
Good Luck and have fun!
Back up EFS with Hellcat's kTool from Google Play (free).
Should you back it up ? Hell yes. Keep a copy of the backup on your external SD card in your phone, and another copy on your PC. You'd be surprised at how many people we get thru here every week with borked EFS/IMEI & no backup.
Thank you for your quick answers! I'll probably stay with GB for now, I just need to make myself a JIG just to have an option of resetting the counter.
Thanks for reading - I'm a noob.
I came here to learn about rooting devices over 6 months ago and decided to have a go at rooting my SGS 2 to remove the bloatware and speed it up a bit.
Performance has been great - I left the stock firmware because the OS/ROM was not a concern to me. I simply flashed the kernel with CF Root: CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KF4-v4.0-CWM4.tar
Now I am led to understand I would need to flash back to my stock kernel to allow the OTA update for ICS - the only issue is I cannot find any available downloads for I9100TDVKF4 - Telstra's stock kernel.
Now I read somewhere a reply to a similar question was "just flash it with a new rom, I dont know why you want to go to stock" - Well I want to update to the official ICS. I was under the impression that would be available a long time ago and never was. I just want to....
Please can anyone help me to point out where I can find that kernel? perhaps there is a different kernel i could use?!
Is there any ICS firmware I would be able to download and flash to the ROM using Odin whilst keeping my phone rooted?
I found this place really helpful in how to root and now I just hope someone can help me get onto ICS!
Cheers

No only custom rooted firmware .
Try Checkfus for your stock firmware download and flash via Odin .
Dont confuse yourself with kernels without understanding .
ICS on Checkfus or Kies for your phone install otherwise wait until your provider releases .
or flash your original saved firmware that will overwrite root .

Thanks for taking the time to reply mate....
Dont confuse yourself with kernels without understanding - dont worry ive been trying not to but it seems thats the only thing i changed on my phone when i rooted it so i was lead to believe i needed to change that back...
My provider has just released new version of ICS but i cant actually install it once ive downloaded it over the air it only gets to 8% then reboots itself and i believe thats because the phone is rooted...
or flash your original saved firmware that will overwrite root - I dont know if i backed it up correctly on the guide i was using!!! The only thing i backed up was the apps using titanium backup so now i feel im stuck!
Use check fus down loader and get the official ics ROM.
It's under i9100t Australia/telestra
Problem solved.
Hi, and apologies as this is probably the 10,000th post on JB updates. I have searched etc, but just wanted a sanity check to see if I have this right.
As the title says, I have a UK GT-I9300 (BTU) that was rooted in my eagerness when I dumped ios (so used to Jailbreaking, I didnt even think about it). I'll admit I didnt think things through at the time (or read up enough!)
So, I rooted the phone using Odin and CF-Root-SGS3-v6.0, and now JB is upon us. I now know that I can't just use Kies or OTA (unless Ive got it wrong), so I just need to use Odin to flash a download (from one of the various Firmware sites) of the JB update for my particular version ?
If I want it to appear as unmodified, I need to use Triangle Away ?
Have I got this correct, or am I missing a piece of the jigsaw, or do I need a pre-rooted JB ?
Cheers for any help, as I'd rather not stuff this up
If I need to flash the stock rom via odin first, I'll have to find it, as all the links I found are dead now :fingers-crossed:
Hello, I am the owner of SGSII and I kept playing with it until now, I have installed 10 custom rom's!
The point is, I want to try Gingerbread (CM7) but do not know how to make the install on it.
Currently using 4.1.2 (NeatROM) and I want to know some steps exactly how to get back to 2.3.6 from 4.1.2, if you can possibly give me a link to me where to download a firmware (2.3.6 ) I looked on the net but Romania (Cosmote) I found nothing or rather I did not know what to take and how to take.
Not to jump from one to another I want to root it and during it! I mean I have briefly (CW + Firmware + Root) i want to test some roms that are based on CM7 or stock 2.3.6.
If I can help people I'd be very grateful.
Thanks in advance.
Anyone something ?
Do not bump threads after 6 hrs. Once after 24 hrs only. This isn't your personal tech support hotline.
Besides, this is basic stuff; if Samfirmware, AndroidFirmwares.net or Samsung-Updates.com don't have the stock rom in question, you're out of luck. Choose another.
Once you're back to GB & how to install CM7, read the CM7 thread & follow the instructions, again basic stuff. Obviously you'll need to root your phone again first, root methods for GB are easily found by searching like everything else you've asked.
