GSGII Downgrade - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I am the owner of SGSII and I kept playing with it until now, I have installed 10 custom rom's!
The point is, I want to try Gingerbread (CM7) but do not know how to make the install on it.
Currently using 4.1.2 (NeatROM) and I want to know some steps exactly how to get back to 2.3.6 from 4.1.2, if you can possibly give me a link to me where to download a firmware (2.3.6 ) I looked on the net but Romania (Cosmote) I found nothing or rather I did not know what to take and how to take.
Not to jump from one to another I want to root it and during it! I mean I have briefly (CW + Firmware + Root) i want to test some roms that are based on CM7 or stock 2.3.6.
If I can help people I'd be very grateful.
Thanks in advance.

Anyone something ?

Do not bump threads after 6 hrs. Once after 24 hrs only. This isn't your personal tech support hotline.
Besides, this is basic stuff; if Samfirmware, AndroidFirmwares.net or Samsung-Updates.com don't have the stock rom in question, you're out of luck. Choose another.
Once you're back to GB & how to install CM7, read the CM7 thread & follow the instructions, again basic stuff. Obviously you'll need to root your phone again first, root methods for GB are easily found by searching like everything else you've asked.

[Q] Quick question with flashing ROMs

So last night I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2 and I’ve got a few questions regarding various things that I havn’t been able to find through searching around on the forums. If the answers are around the forums and I have missed them I apologize and hopefully you can direct me there.
1. Since I used chainfires rooting method. I’ve used Nitrality’s app to ‘backup’ my /efs and something else it backup up. Here I’m wondering if I use a custom rom such as “Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3” will the things I backed up with Nitrality app restore my original ROM and Kernel incase something hardware wise fails and I need to send it back in to claim on my warranty.
2. The second question im asking is regarding various Custom roms, if I choose to flash ;Lite’ning rom, will I be able to since it states it’s;
based on I9100XXKH3 firmware
baseband I9100XXKH3
The baseband I’m using is XWKE7, will I be able to use this rom?
3. since the version of android I have is 2.3.3 and majority of the Roms need 2.3.4 will it work correctly? If not and I have to legitly update to 2.3.4 will it successfully update since i've rooted my phone?
Hopefully you guys can help answer my questions. Thanks.
bump because I really need help :[
- Litening ROM is based on KH3 ROM, that doesn't mean you need to have a Stock KH3 ROM. So yes, you can install it.
- As I said it doesn't matter what ROM you currently have to flash a 2.3.4 ROM.
- Don't know about the Back up issue, sorry.

thankyou so much for your help
before I flash it will I need to upgrade my 2.3.3 to 2.3.4 though?

[Q] easy how-to root->flash standard kernel/rom and undo all if needed

Hi all,
I have a SGS2 from vodafone, it works ok but i'd really like to have an updated rom/kernel with android 2.3.4 and other bugfixes that are probably still months away from being available from Vodafone.
I don't want to try different customized roms, i'd just like to have an easy how-to to root and install an standard official, operator-free, updated rom/kernel from samsung.
When vodafone does release an updated rom and/or if i need to use warranty, i'd need a way to go back to my old rom and unroot.
I think this would be useful for other users as well, there is a lot of information in these forums and it's just overwhelming to have to dig in all this when you just want to root (this part is easier) and get an official updated rom/kernel.
Can anyone help?
Have a look at the xda bookmarks in my sig. There's official branded and unbranded firmware, and rooted firmware. Each of the threads gives a full and clear explanation of how to flash. If you read the 1st post carefully (and any posts they refer you to) then you can't go wrong.

[Q] root and cwm advice?

hi guys - finally decided to take a look at rooting and getting cwm on to my s2 to give it some custom loving.
need a little advice on what cf root version im needing as some of the numbers etc look similar to each other with varying letters that im not sure of.........
phone details are:
gb 2.3.4
baseband i9100xxki1
kernel 2.6.35.7 - i9100xwki4
build xwki4
i can see variants of xwki4 (ie nee v4.1, 42 v 4.2 etc etc) but id rather get it right first time as il get hung by the mrs if i screw it up lol
cheers in advance and if anyone wants to suggest a rom
scotty
I don't know about CF-root. I used superoneclick, but I suggest to use cm9 if high battery consumement and some bugs aren't bothering you, if they are, I suggest to use GalaxyZerox if you want to get nice ics look
I don't think it really matters what kernel you flash to root it. I think its just advisory to get one that closely resembles your original one when first rooting. As once its rooted, when you flash a different rom they come with a kernel anyway and most people on here seem to always be experimenting with different kernels.
Hopefully someone else will confirm this.
I'm fairly new to this but it really isn't that hard as long as you follow the instructions from wherever you get them from.

cheers guys - all done! just went for it and alls good.
appreciate the responses.
rom time yeehaa

[Q] ICS Update - SGS 2 Rooted 6 months ago

Thanks for reading - I'm a noob.
I came here to learn about rooting devices over 6 months ago and decided to have a go at rooting my SGS 2 to remove the bloatware and speed it up a bit.
Performance has been great - I left the stock firmware because the OS/ROM was not a concern to me. I simply flashed the kernel with CF Root: CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KF4-v4.0-CWM4.tar
Now I am led to understand I would need to flash back to my stock kernel to allow the OTA update for ICS - the only issue is I cannot find any available downloads for I9100TDVKF4 - Telstra's stock kernel.
Now I read somewhere a reply to a similar question was "just flash it with a new rom, I dont know why you want to go to stock" - Well I want to update to the official ICS. I was under the impression that would be available a long time ago and never was. I just want to....
Please can anyone help me to point out where I can find that kernel? perhaps there is a different kernel i could use?!
Is there any ICS firmware I would be able to download and flash to the ROM using Odin whilst keeping my phone rooted?
I found this place really helpful in how to root and now I just hope someone can help me get onto ICS!
Cheers

No only custom rooted firmware .
Try Checkfus for your stock firmware download and flash via Odin .
Dont confuse yourself with kernels without understanding .
ICS on Checkfus or Kies for your phone install otherwise wait until your provider releases .
or flash your original saved firmware that will overwrite root .
jje
Thanks for taking the time to reply mate....
Dont confuse yourself with kernels without understanding - dont worry ive been trying not to but it seems thats the only thing i changed on my phone when i rooted it so i was lead to believe i needed to change that back...
My provider has just released new version of ICS but i cant actually install it once ive downloaded it over the air it only gets to 8% then reboots itself and i believe thats because the phone is rooted...
or flash your original saved firmware that will overwrite root - I dont know if i backed it up correctly on the guide i was using!!! The only thing i backed up was the apps using titanium backup so now i feel im stuck!
Use check fus down loader and get the official ics ROM.
It's under i9100t Australia/telestra
Problem solved.

Dont know what I did wrong...root issue raised Binaries?

Hey everyone,
I am running the stock AT&T ICS rom (wish I never downloaded it after having rooted my phone when it originally had GB 2.3) and went about rooting my phone via odin and downloading the appropriate TWRP files (based off what I read here).
While I can't seem to get it rooted, it seems that I now have a count of 1 for custom binaries...what did I do wrong? Is there a way to turn back that counter?
Anyone want to point me to a link for rooting stock ICS Notes, as most of what is in the forum refers to stock GB phones ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1740367
Links to rooting, roms, counter reset, hookers, mods, themes, etc
It puts the lotion on its skin!
