[Q] DirtyRacun S-Off, how to flash roms? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

OK so I just completed DirtyRacun Soff and now I want to flash CM10 and the gapps. I have TWRP recovery installed but I;'m not rooted. How do I flash roms/get rooted? I'm new to using fastboot so I'm not sure all the commands to install roms and gapps and stuff like that. If anyone has a link to fastboot commands or if I can just flash through recovery like I used to do when I had hboot 1.12.... Thanks guys, I appreciate the info

DirtyRacun is ran after the bootloader is already unlocked therefor you should already have the root binaries installed. Just flash CMX and the GAPPs through TWRP.

Root isn't from s-off or just a custom recovery.
If you want root on stock sense then you have to flash super su or other root deals through twrp.
But if you flash a custom ROM such as CMX or viper 4g etc, 9 times out of 10 they are already rooted with super su or etc reinstalled
Is that a hemi? No silly its Paranoid Android!

flyer with offficial hc ota htc unlock

Hi I've been doin a lot of reading of this forum. My main question is can I install a no sense hc Rom from just performing an HTC unlock or do I need to downgrade to gb anyway in which case I may aswel go s off while I'm at it.
I'm running hc official ota
There is no true no sense rom available as of yet
ok but if i just used the htc unlock could i then easily flash the new virtuous rom which has just started been developed?
Problem is i cant find the correct ruu to downgrade my device, its a uk 16gb wifi . I thought id found it but the site wont let me download.
You should be able to flash clockwork, then a custom ROM through fastboot without downgrade and root.
Haven't done it myself, but that is my understanding of how the unlocked bootloader works versus real S-Off.
I managed to do this hardware unlock and now have an unlocked bootloader. Tried. To flash cwm and corrupted the recovery. How do you install CWM through fastboot?

You have get CWM recovery, go into fastboot, connect USB, and then install via command prompt.
If you are unaware of how to do this try installing recovery via Rom Manager. Might be your easier solution.
Thanks for the reply, I actually downloaded cwm from a post in the dev section. Flashed it through command line with fastboot and now when I boot from recovery the device is stuck on a white HTC screen.
Also tried to use Rom manager but the device has to be rooted first. Can you root it through fastboot without cwm? Can I get a download link for a working cwm?

htc evo 3d

i am goin through a really big problem! i was trying to permanently root my phone! but during the revolutionary step it says hboot 1.40.0000 or 1.30.0000 it says 1.40.0000 and it also says it is not supported yet! please help me!
Hi,
you dont need S-OFF for evrything. If you cannot S-OFF,
still you can flash roms, and do most of the things without a problem,
Only thing is you cannot just install custom roms using the recovery menu.
You need to download and installed Android Framework tools and fastboot in your PC to fire ADB Dos commands to your phone via USB to flash the updates.
Let me know.

You can flash ROMs through recovery on S-on too and it will work fine as long as the new ROM contains the same kernel as your current kernel. And if it contains another kernel use flash Image GUI app or fastboot command to flash tha kernel.
Provided your bootoader is unlocked via www.htcdev.com

Most of the time, ROMs does not have the same kernal,
So most of the users who are s-on and new to flashing get stuck on boot loops. Other thing is flash image gui app is a paid application
So best way is to use fastboot commands to flash the kernal after installing the ROM zip file
Cheers..
You could update to hboot 1.50, use the HTCDev unlock and use the Wiretrick to get s-off

[Q] Which recovery to choose after OTA?

Hi guys. Finally i updated to ICS from the OTA and i reunlocked HBoot with HTC Dev. Now i'm Unlocked again which recovery shuld i Flash? And how to root now?
Same here
I had previously relocked my phone and reverted to stock cause I could not get a kernal that would not reboot my phone or cause it to heat up on a custom ics rom. I ran the new OTA and unlocked the phone via hTCdec site. I am now on 2.89 w/ hboot 1.58 s-on. I flashed the 4ext recovery successfully. I want to go s-off just cause lol. will flashing Vipers OTA give s-off or is there something else I should do?
Yes i know 4ext is the best but you can not install it because you need root and to get root you need a zip file and a recovery first. My question is which recovery and SU zip file.

All you need is the img file and flash it through fastboot from a computer. After that just flash a rooted Rom or whatever you want

Agreed. I am not currently rooted just unlocked. I flashed the recovery via fastboot. download a recovery .img and place it in the same folder where you have your unlock files for the htcdev site. in the command prompt direct it to the folder where u have fastboot and your recovery files. type,"fastboot flash recovery "yourrecovery.img" Do not use the quotations I used and replace yourrecovery with the file name of your recovery.

I know with unlocked and 4ext recovery I can do most things a rooted phone can do, but I want to be rooted just for the heck of it lol. If I flash vipers stock rooted ota deodexed zip will that give s-off. or could I just push a SU flashable img?

I htcdev unlocked my evo 4g lte bootloader...now what?

So I decided to use htcdev to unlock my bootloader last night for the first time. I am on OTA 1.22.651.3. I know I am not "rooted" and am confused as to if I can actually try any custom ROMs. I read REGAWMOD's post regarding his rooter not working right now...is there another option? Sorry if I missed a post that explains this situation, but I just want to try a custom rom without screwing up my phone.

There's really no reason to manually root if you've already unlocked the bootloader. All you need to do is flash a recovery and then you can flash any ROM, which will already have root access. Here's a good instructional on flashing a recovery:

Thanks premo15 for the info and link.
The funny thing about htcdev was the stuff they make you download and the steps they make you go through to unlock the bootloader. I was thinking they were going to make me hop on one foot while patting my head and belly simultaneously.
I read over and over, did some research, tried running cmd and so on.
having no luck
I went through the HTCDev, s-on but bootloader unlocked
I'm running stock 2.13
After unlock you need to flash twrp, you can use fastboot to do so, just download twrp from the teamwin website and put the image file in adb tools or android sdk folder and in the bootloader type fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-jewel.img

yeah, sorry.
the steps i've taken were similar to the htcdev steps,
finish steps 1-7
after I typed "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" into command prompt and gives me
"error: cannot load 'recovery.img'"
The name has to match, when you download twrp 2.2 the full name is openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-jewel.img so it would be fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-jewel.img or you can rename to recovery.img

Hi there..

Can i use RUU JEWEL CL ICS 40 Sprint WWE 1.13.651.1 Radio 1.02.12.0427 NV SPCS 2.28 003 to have H-Boot 1.13 ...??
or is there another way to Root & install CWM or TWRP on this condition ...??
Cheers
You have to unlock bootloader and flash twrp with fastboot. You can use Regawmod but people have been having issues with it. If you go to HTC Dev and sign up the instructions are pretty well written. When you finish unlocking download twrp from the TeamWin website and flash it just like unlock_code.bin but type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img or whatever the image file is named. Then flash a rom. The kernel has to be installed separately or you can use a rom with a kernel installer like meanrom

Yes, there is flash gui, fastboot, and htc dumlock. Some roms like mean have a kernel installer built in
