Hi, I got the HTC one X+ from At&t today and every time I try to use it it gets really hot, even when not using its still warm. This hapened to the HTC one X international when I had it like 6 months ago so I returned it. And now I wanted to give another try to HTC and still the same problem. I had lot of phones from Nexus one to last one Galaxy note 2 none of them had this overheating issues. The phone gets hot and the battery drains very fast.
Anyone have same kinds of issue?

I noticed when I was downloading all my apps and installing them, the phone got really hot to the touch. But after that the phone started to cool down and has been fine.

Thanx good to know, the phone looks awesome. Best looking phone in the market.

Do you have some objective numbers for hot and warm in Fahrenheit or Celsius? Everything else is pretty subjective and what is hot for you is maybe warm for me
It gets "warm" pretty fast but what do you expect from a quad-core in a small shell "overclocked" to 1.7Ghz. I think it is similar to the GSII.

It gets 120℉ and I afraid the heat is going to make the WiFi antenna problems like the international HTC one X not the +

Yes, it is gorgeous. I wish HTC would focus on well designed hardware and would forget about Sense UI.

Haven't they redesigned the wifi antenna for the Hox+? I remember that I read something like that? Hopefully it is not affected by too much heat.
120f is only like 48c. Get worried when you get to the 60s/70s

48C is within tolerance. 60+ is danger zone and I would suggest shutting off the device and letting it cool if it gets there.
This device doesn't have the wifi issues, I've confirmed it multiple times.
Don`t worry, the phone automatically turns itself off when it overheats and will only turn back on once it has cooled sufficiently, no risk whatsoever, the tegra soc was purposely engineered to hit its maximum thermal limit.
Get hot, yes. Overheat no.
Lol soon we might be buying heatsinks for our phones.

But the problem is, it looses a lot of battery if it is getting so hot. Is there a possibility that this can be fixed with a software update?

What don't you understand. If you want a cooler running phone buy a less powerful one. No matter how many of you moan on here. HTC can not defy the laws of thermodynamics

Yes, this is true. If something is using a lot of power and putting out a lot of heat, the battery will get used. What do you want us to tell you?
The best option is custom kernels and underclock/undervolt. Tegra 3 is a pile of crap but it's the only way to ensure that the One X+ didn't become a vastly different device compared to the One X.
It seems like whenever I'm playing game, even just a simple running game the battery seems get to excessively hot. When I have the phone charging and playing a game it can get upwards of 119f. Is there something that I'm missing?

I understand that but by that notion the phone is unusable while charging for any intense application. I previously had a vivid and was able to play intense games while on the charger until the battery was full and temp never topped 100f. Now I play some simple running game for 15 minutes while charging and my battery is at 119f.

Anybody feel their amaze getting really really warm, almost hot? Kinda makes me not wanna use my phone a lot just because the heat might mess it up.
This happens around 15 mins of usage.
I haven't had that issue even under heavy use like games, videos, and web.
It may be an app or apps constantly running. Do you check your task manager often? U may have to kill some apps. Also is it charging when you use the phone? I know it gets hot quickly that way.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda premium
Really depends on what's running. When you first initialize the phone it's going to get hot as it syncs and updates everything but that should pass. If you have location enabled and use the gps, it will get hot, if you use maps and the screen is on, it will get hot...just check it for whats running and delete whats unnecessary. Of course I'm waiting for the root to really delete the crapware.
My amaze has been overheating it feel's like it's on fire randomly sometimes , even when im not on apps .
Mine gets really hot too.. not quite but almost too hot to touch. It's not even plugged in when it happens and its just from playing music it charging.. no heavy usage. Hopefully it'll disappear once we get some roms with no bloatware!
Yeah I experience overheating last night. This is by far the worst ive come accross on any phone. I may go to t mobile and look at the galaxy s2. I love this phone but too many problems for me

Yeah, both phones are great. Its just with finding the right fit for you. I chose GS2 because I figured we would have a larger dev community, its lighter because of its plastic design and Super Amoled+. The downside of this phone is its resolution, but I don't notice it that much for it to be a big con. I heard some people actually rather the hefty-ness of the Amaze. I'm not gonna lie I love the design quality of it. HTC is always known for gorgeous designs.

Definitely happy with my purchase. This phone fits my exact needs. I'm surprised that your not getting overheating issues though. Most of my HTC phones with metal built in or around them had overheating issues after a few minutes of operating them.

Im actually suprised also. Smart phones do get warm when using alot but i might have got lucky because im constantly plugged in and doing something on this phone. My phone hasnt been above 98 degrees f yet. And thats while cruising the net or playing eternity warriors. I dont have any hd games yet so i'll test again when they become available to see if the phone gets real hot.

I guess you definitely one of the lucky few cause my myTouch 4g, G2, Nexus One, HD2 and Sensation all heated up. I know all phones heat up when in use, but the GS2 won't even get hot on the charger while in use and to me that's amazing. I'm glad you enjoy your phone and your not experiencing such issues.

you also have to remember 2 things though.... 1) the unibody designs always conduct the heat to the outside of the phone, although its operating at the same temp of most phones, the reason you notice it with the newer htc models is cause you can actually feel the heat cause of the unibody... 2) the sammys are all plastic, which doesnt conduct heat too well, so although its getting hot inside, you dont feel it. they both prob run at close if not the same temps, but you can just notice it more on the htc... thats all.

I disagree. The phone should not reboot while benchmarking. This could be a symptom of a more serious defect, Ignoring it could prove to be more detrimental to the health of the device.
@OP. First I would test the phone some more. try a different benchmark and some other resource intensive tasks. If you get no more reboots, I would uninstall quadrant and try reinstalling. If the reboot issue persisits, send it back for repair. Rebooting usually has something to do with excess heat. or worst case scenario, a faulty mobo.
I benchmarked mine and my best was 6751, I have done it a couple of times, never rebooted, If it is rebooting try uninstall, then re-install the apk. You could also reset the phone and start over and see if it happens
LOL I just tested it and had the following result.

My s3's ar fine. I even use otterbox commuter on both of them all the time. I experienced a bit warm at the bottom while playing heavy games for long time, but in rest is fine all the time.
Agreed. I tweaked a lot of aspects on my phone but back when it was stock, didn't notice any hot battery.

Yeah, sometimes mine will over heat, but I was a pretty buggy ROM when it became a problem. When it was stock, heavy use, multiple open apps was causing it to heat up.
I think the plastic back makes a big difference.
I made the switch from one X to SGS3 and overall I think it was worth it. My One X wasn't hot all the time though, so maybe yours is faulty.
For me there's only two real downsides to the SGS3. Firstly, the screen definitely isn't as good. Secondly, there isn't a rom that comes remotely close to what j4n did the the viperx rom. I can't find one rom here that has on-the-fly tweaks even similar to venom tweaks.

By hot you mean upto what temperature??
My s3 goes upto 39° if I play graphic intensive games for long durations...
No problem at all with general usage and browsing for even long periods of time..
Hope this helped..

I had an HTC one X+, gave it to my mum and get an s3.
I have it since Saturday only but I like it. Really fast, really smooth and u will forget incompatibilities with tons of games from play store.
Games runs much better than HTC but well, maybe it was just my problem, some ppl on x+ forum says they're running games ok. S3 gaming framerate is awesome.
And it was not expensive at all

No we do not have Sense 6 ROMs. Of course it's normal it's a Tegra 3 device what you expect?

As @Daryll99 mentioned, Tegra devices are known for getting hot. But it is normal and you shouldn't worry about it (even if battery-app-savers will warn you with a battery overheating warning). If you read about the HOX on wiki, you will see that the first HOX with no updates liked to reach even higher temperatures than now .
When I play games, I hold my fingers on the edge of phone, don't know how you are playing. It is comfortable and I don't need to worry about my fingers .
Dont worry about your fingers? im worried about the CPU
