[Q] Samsung Galaxy Note i717 Bricked!!! NEED HELP ASAP - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hey,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note i717 running on aokp_quincyatt_jb-build-1_Sept.1st. Then I flashed Liquid Jelly Bean onto the phone. I followed all the steps correctly, hit reboot, then the screen went black, and the phone never booted up. Phone won't turn on or go into download mode. I have Warranty on the phone, and hope Samsung won't care that it is rooted or not, and fixes the phone. If they don't fix it, I need something to fall back on. Someone please help me out. I spent a lot of money on the phone, and now it doesn't want to turn on. Any answers anyone?
Thanks.

Give us step by step how you flashed. If you flash following the instructions im 100% you will not brick your phone.

Weird how that ROM has done this to ALOT of phones now. Glad I didn't flash it. And the op really hasn't tried to help the ones it done it to. Maybe user error but this is getting a little weird. Try using a jig if u can get one to put ur phone in download mode. If that does not work I'd make the call to att and tell them u woke up and it was dead. Learn from you mistakes you could have downloaded the i777 version by mistake and always check your md5.
testing stuff. shhh its a secret.

Can you get into recovery by holding down volume up/down +Power and then letting go of power after the Samsung logo appears?

I it was the correct Rom for my i717

Pull the battery. Hold in the power and middle volume rocker. Put battery in while still holding in the two buttons. This should go into recovery. Make sure the battery doesn't fall out. It may take a few times to get the timing right.

A jig? Really?
Ive had this issue before. I got it working by pulling the battery, plugging in the charger with the device off, putting the battery back in, and then booting into recovery by holding down the correct buttons.
Some combination of the above almost always works for me when I find myself in a boot loop or bricked.

Thanks. I'm gonna contact them once after I get my phone shipped back from Samsung. I never told them it was rooted or anything but there's a video on YouTube and a guy brought in his Galaxy Note and he brought it to his local Samsung Store where he was located and he had the exact same issue, so he dropped it off, and got a call two days later and they said they could fix it and they did so, I'm hoping for the same luck as him.

Download mode doesnt work
It shows AT&T and keeps rebooting.. over and over. I have no idea if they will exchange it due to it being a t-mobile phone.
Maybe Try the jig
Not sure I know enough about the real issue other than you got the wrong rom. But, there is a jig you can make 301k resistor (or combo of a few to equal that number) soldered to a usb connector on # 4 & 5 pins look it up it will unbrick the phone and get you into the phone from there I not sure what you will need to do next but that would get you into the phone. Btw the resistors and usb cord less than 5 bucks good luck
Dude, you are being childish. I usually never flame but don't say you did because you didn't Enough. Slow down and take your time. If you are doing any kind of mods you should learn how to use Odin first, but unfortunately its always after the fact.
Learn how to use Odin, in the development bible I have a video there to show you how. Doesn't get any easier than that.

You are completely right. I was "trigger happy" you may say and I did it by rushing through it and ruined my phone. Luckily I have not yet sold my 3Gs and could use that until I get tmobile to exchange it.
The jig would most likely work for my case but I would need a step by step guide which unfortunately didn't find with images or video.
If I could just kill the AT&T boot logo it'd be perfect but sadly I can't.
I got the phone two days ago..so I am really sure I can get away with an exchange.
If you return the phone and it is booting with the At&t logo they will now you where messing with it and charge you the full amount of the phone which is around $400.
What you have is a soft brick. You can fix it if you bothered reading. Just follow this:

I wish mine was a soft brick but it isn't. That thread was for "phone ! PC" mine is a tmo vibrant that boot loops as AT&T captive since I flashed the wrong stock kernel.
Remove battery, SIM card and the external SD card.
Connect USB cord
Hold down both volume keys and insert the battery.
I love how everyone gives the same reply. The phone WAS FULLY BRICKED.
I took it to T-Mobile and said I did an update and this is what happened and they gave me a brand spanking new one! =D
Thanks for all your help though.

You flashed a I9000 ROM on an I9100 device?!
Kiss your phone goodbye unless you jtag it or send it to the service center.
You have flashed a rom for a different phone. The rom you flashed is for Galaxy S not Galaxy S II..
I have read a thread similar like this before but
for what I can remember his phone is permanently bricked. You might want to search
in the Q&A thread. This thread is for Android Development.

i don't know how i missed that. could you tell me what jtag is? is it the same as a jig?
thanks.
Yes it is totally bricked. Unless you have chance and want to try something. The USB jig to put i9000 and i9100 phone in download is the same ( Both use 151k oHms). If you try to use a jig on your phone you might be able to put it back on download mode. However, i would doubt that it work. Since you don't have the good Bootloader on your phone, i'm more like 97% sure it wont work. The black screen only is also a good sign of death. Sry to ear that. JTag is not the same thing than the jig btw. JTag is how they put the first information, at factory, on your phone. It can be used to put back the good bootloader on your phone. But if i remember well, only phone compagnie ( On this case Samsung) and a few person have what it take to make a JTag.

Thats from the creator of the i9000 ROM you just flashed.
Your phone is 100% bricked, just wondering why did you flash an i9000 ROM on a i9100 ROM, thats not only the wrong phone, but you also added a PIT files with Odin which also is not good for the i9100, and this ROM contains bootloaders.
its 100% bricked, however there is light at the end of the tunnel. A good friend of mine at Mobile Tech Videos can fix your phone 100%
hes the only guy that can do this around the world, only does it for 50 dollars, and he can guarantee fix your phone.
Just dont do this again, maybe next time flash DlevROM

I mean this guy is 100% trusted, and email him if you have questions.
hes the best bet for getting it back fast, and working.
Samsung will most likely play games, take longer, and ask you how this happened.
its your choice, but hes 100% legit, you dont have to use him Im just saying this is the best bet for saving you
Maybe if is better to send it to Samsung and let them figure it out.
If they ask what happened, just tell them that you left it on charger snd a few hours after it was dead. After all i doubt that theg can get info from inside the phone.
They will make a clean flash plus bootloaders.
That is what would i have done.

Just send your phone to get repaired. then next time please read properly and more carefully before you start playing with rooting and flashing

the reason why you should send it to dlev's friends shop to get it fixed instead of samsung is if samsung finds out what you did to the phone, they will probably charge you an arm and a leg for it...

That's for the international note, you just hard bricked your phone. International roms aren't compatible with our phones and vice versa. Hopefully you're under warranty or have insurance...

N7000 is NOT the same as i717. Can you still get to recovery? Hold vol+, vol -, and power for 5 seconds or so until it shows samsung logo, with luck you will only have screwed your main kernel and still have recovery to flash a working i717 one. If not do Power+Vol+ for 5 seconds for download mode which requires Odin on PC to flash a cwm/twrp recovery or stock rom.

if you can't boot into download mode, your Note is dead , pull the battery out, leave it for a minute and while holding the volume down, stick the battery in and see if it boots into download mode. I'm not going to ask why at this point of time anyone wouldn't know the difference of the two model Notes, it happened at first right after the US Note came out , anyways, you can try to get your hands on a jig and force it into download mode if nothing else works, pretty cheap http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-download-mode-jig/ , I have one and all you do is plug it in the usb port and it should automatically boot into download mode, they don't have one for the note but the galaxy s/vibrant 4g/nexus should all work.
If you can get it booted into download mode you can save it with the proper rom flashed thru odin, the n7000 boot.img/zImage is what killed your note, you can't use the kernel or modem from each other.
Good luck.

Using a jig is completely different than JTAG. Jig simply boots download mode, and probably won't work. JTAG involves soldering something on the motherboard and costs about 50 bucks if you ship it to somebody to do, which could save your phone possibly. And since you didn't read enough to know the difference between the international and ATT notes, you should probably read a lot more before the next time you try something.

Sorry for your loss....
It's an expensive (and avoidable) lesson to learn...
(Reading for comprehension)...is mandatory around here, to avoid a paperweight...and I'd rather risk being flamed alive for asking a repeat question, than to brick my note due to lack of understanding. The difference between these two devices is "very" easy to spot with minimal research.
very sorry....g
Sorry man. I read a lot before I started anything with an iPhone or android. There are devoted sections to each international and states note. At the very least you learned a huge lesson. Try a warranty exchange or insurance and you'll be good to go again.

I gave you the only answer you need ! Unless you can boot into download mode your Note is D.E.A.D.-S.O.L.... if it won't boot to download mode, either make a USB jig or buy one like I showed you, even gave you a link for it or claim warranty/insurance. Don't know what else you want, maybe someone can take a trip to your house and do it for you.....

Brick means dead. Paperweight. It happens. JTAG.
Here is a link to mobiletechvideos
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-note-jtag-brick-repair/
I just broke the rules by posting that, you're welcome.
That is listed for the international version, but at the bottom it says "valid for the at&t lte version"
Josh is a trusted member of xda, and he has zombified many phones.
As stated above, this type of repair is the only hope you have of saving this phone.

Anybody in the 757 have a mini-usb jig??

Bought one, but have to wait till it ships, so figured I would ask if anybody in the 757 has a mini-usb jig that I could use to get my Note into download mode. Send PM if you do.
Thanks in advance.

Walk me through that one, no response to anything, power and up volume results in nothing. Plugging into usb results in nothing Windows, ODIN nor Kies registers it.

I think this is what you're looking for, yes?
http://galaxys2root.com/tag/diy-usb-jig/
Sidenote:
I thought it was "down volume button + power " to get into ODIN mode for Samsung devices
up+ down is for recovery

Yep am with you on that one, I have soft bricked before, but nothing like this, my very first true brick of my cell. Hopefully Jig I ordered at least gets me into download mode, where I can fix it.

If you can see the samsung bootloader then yeah there's hope otherwise you're gonna need the $100 fix for it.
But at least people are responding, I got no love on my end, lol
keeping things in perspective, as I posted before, I have never seen anyone report that a jig does any good on this phone..
You would be better off either using JTAG, or calling Samsung, and playing stupid, and tell them it died after you did an update that the phone requested..they will send you a replacement, with no questions asked.
go through the general and q&a sections; you will see that a jig doesn't do anything for this phone..

Well smokestack76 told you differently yesterday. He said over 20 times with a jig. Plus for $1.60 I will give it a try.
yes, for the price, if it makes you feel better, try it..
and, if you believe him, when you can find 20 others that said it did absolutely nothing, then that's your choice.
the sooner you send it in to Samsung, the sooner you will have a working phone..
If Samsung is wiling to send you a loaner phone while you're under warranty i can't see why you wouldnt do that.
I know Nintendo is awesome like that but apparently Samsung reps are quite jaded when you do something silly like ask an honest question.
I wish Samsung would honor warranty services if the device hasn't been on the market longer than year.
I'm A. Maybe he Made a mistake and wants to own up for it insted of weasling into a fraudulent phone.
B. I would be a little jaded as well when I get people calling me all day that have messed up their own phone and are now trying to steal from me.
C. Samsung does honor warranties a year after the device has been on market. YOUR WARRANTY DOES NOT GO INTO EFFECT UNTIL THE ORIGINAL DATE OF PURCHASE. not when the first one of its kind rolls off the assembly line.
Also, wase a jig does work of you are not actually bricked, if you were to be soft bricked the jig would force download mode. I had a captivate I built a jig for, first thing I did was try it on my note. Bam, download mode.
And finally op it's a micro usb jig not mini. Mini is bigger than micro
yeah bro, I know a jig works for SOME phones; it helped me bring my S2 back to life..
However, I have read many many reports of it doing nothing for the Note, so that was why I said what I did..
Plus, people are using the term "Bricked" around here in so many ways, that its hard to know what they mean when they say it..to me, a bricked phone is DEAD, and nothing but an expensive paperweight.....
I can take a video of my note going from off to download mode with nothing but my jig. However the same jig that works on both my phones is out of resistance tolerance on my brothers sgs2.
And yes bricked is used much too often,it is a term to describe when your phone is inert, has no pliability and just sits there, like the baked red clay building material it was named for.
was curious to see if the OP had any luck with the jig....
Well the jig did nothing for me. I suggest send your phone to mobiletechvideos.com for repair, he goes through the JTAG recovery method, and he also unlocked mine... he did a great job. I bricked my Note flashing a ROM for another device by mistake, could not use the jig for anything, so had it repaired. Feeling really happy now... hope this helps.
the jig isn't and was never meant to fix a hard brick...
[history lesson]
Back on captivate, certain bootloaders would disable the button combos for download and recovery, making a simple (I hate the term... But) soft brick into a much stickier situation, so it was discovered that using 300k ohms of resistance across certain pins on the usb port from a powered off state would trigger download mode in seconds, making you then able to simply odin a stock rom and try again.
It was later discovered that the jig had the same effect on the sgs2 with the added benefit of restting the flash counter.
[/history lesson]
If you flash a firmware for the international note on an i717 you will need jtag because you are indeed bricked of the hard variety.

Nope gig still in the mail, however took Note to ATT Device Service Center and they told me mother board failure and replaced it. So might not have been related to flashing, inspection seem pretty in depth, removed back cover, using multi meter type of tool and said mother board didn't provide correct response to input. My mandatory 10 days to return no functioning unit is 17 Dec so don't think will have chance to try the jig before I send it back or be charged $549 for non-functioning unit.

might as well keep the jig for the couple of bucks it cost..plus, even if it doesn't work for this phone, it might work for your next one!

[Q] help please.. phone completely dead sfter new rom

my phone was working fine .. I had done over 50 new roms on my galaxy note so im not to new to these.. anyways I downloaded the latest slim rom and the latest gapps.. i did full swipe 3 times plus dalvik and cache like I do usually and i installed a fresh copy of the slim rom plus the gapps.. as soon as the gapps finished the installation my phone went blank.. i tried to restart but nothing not even the vibration just blank screen.. i meant that not even trying to start up, i have two fully charge batteries and nothing .. it wont even go into recovery with power and the two volume keys.. please advice.. i never encountered a situation like these..
thanks in advance for any help//
I plug the phone to the charger and nothing.. its completely dead.!
Most likely installed rom version for a different device. There is no "new" version for our note i717 that i am aware of. So your best bet is JTAG for about $50 at mobiletechvideos.com.

Hard bricked.......
JTAG is your next option.......very sorry, but you likely flashed the wrong device rom, as stated in the post above mine....g
This is what I downloaded
last night
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1913533
Go back to stock odin in stock rom and modem...remove the battery and lressi.g volume down and power plug phone into compjter this should get u download mode

If you can't get into download mode you bricked your phone. If you can get into recovery as stated use Odin and flash your stock version that you can find on the Internet.

The link is good. ..
Im wondering if the file is labeled incorrectly...
We have seen that issue in the last few weeks...
So is download mode gone for Sure? ??
The link is good but there are no ROM downloads for the newest release for the I717 at the moment. There is for the N7000 and I777 though. Sounds like you installed a ROM not made for the I717.

Yes, you can recover your phone. Just get your fifty dollars and phone to the JTAG guy and it will be back in a week.
I just got the 39.99 jtag service with dr-CELL SEE HOT IT GOES... Thanks for all your support!!
Best of luck OP....
It's a bad day when a device locks up ...
I joined XDA after thinking I knew more than I really did.
I was helping a friend with root on an HTC evo.......and missed a critical step, causing a hard brick.
No JTAG there ....so I said I'm sorry, and we got in my truck and drove too the Verizon store.
$375.00 later, he was up and going again.....(and I was much lighter in the wallet )
Ever since, I've been here trying to help others to avoid the same mistake I made.
Since then, I read everything 5 times before using it, and I'll even contact the developer if I have questions.
I'm never afraid to ask questions, and I stop if that "feeling" hits me with doubt.
Please post here when the phone comes back if you can.
We hate those bricks, but we love a good success story too ....g
