Look at this for me and see If its legit - HTC EVO 3D

S-OFF your EVO 3D to flash custom ROMs without PC.
Check your current bootloader version. To do this Just go to settings > Power > Uncheck Fastboot and switch off your phone. Or you can turn your phone off then remove and reinsert the battery.
Hold "Volume down + Power" buttons simultaneously.
Your phoe is now booted into hboot menu.
You can find your current hboot version on the top of the screen.
If you have got hboot 1.4 or lower then go to revoluionary.io and follow the instructions to gain S-OFF
If you have got hboot 1.50 or above go to unlimited.io of and follow the steps.
These steps are tricky and may brick your device.
Follow it properly with caution and you should be fine.
It will set your phone free from all restrictions.
You can flash different ROMs, kernels, radios, recoveries, bootaimations, splash screen and much more from the comfort of the device itself.

wtf ??? Flash without pc???

you need a pc to run revolutionary or unlimited.

Your lucky if you get an evo 3d with hboot 1.4. Even though both revolutionary and juopunutbear can potentially brick your phone, I would say that revolutionary is the safest method IF you already have 1.4

For the record, I've never hear of JuopunutBear bricking anyone's phone. Some people have had to restore and try again later but I don't think it has rendered anyone's phone useless once they figure out how to restart or recover.
Just don't want people getting scared off from a method that is pretty safe, although a little scary for some.

It is a little scary, I am not trying to scare anyone. Although anything we do has that potential. That happened to me when I attempted the wire trick. I had to restore my phone. I got scared because I thought I had bricked my phone. lol

I'm afraid not. As far as I know, all methods require a computer.

Ok thanks ... What about if I downloaded the files to my phone and hooked it up on a computer without internet

I don't recall about the revolutionary. But jbear would need internet. You would need to first unlock it from htcdev.

why would it say revolutionary when i boot into recovery??? i never heard of that?? just sayin.. some peoples bootloader says rovolutionary at the top.. my last 3d that i just sold said it at the top but the one i gots now dont say it for some reason..
If your phone shipped with S-OFF like my wife's did, you do not need to unlock the phone with the Revolutionary system so it won't say Revolutionary at the top of the Bootloader screen.
Loading TWRP allows you an easy way of managing your phone and flashing things like ROMs.

yours wont say revolutionary bc from what you have listed you use the TWRP recovery and not ClockworkMod.... they are different flavors of recovery and each one is to its own creator....clockworkmod is from revolutionary.io and TWRP is from team windows recovery project...
when rooting with Revolutionary, it's apparently the final flash which puts the purple "Revolutionary" banner up there. when I rooted my brother's phone, that last flash didn't complete successfully, so it does not have the banner but is correctly rooted.

both evo 3d's that i had were hboot 1.40 both were rooted using revolutionary both also had twrp for a recovery.. one says revo at the top of the bootloader and one dont...
That's simple. When s-off'd with revolutionary, your hboot is upped to 1.40.100 and says revolutionary at the top in purple. Mine was like that. I personally flashed back to hboot 1.40.000 and so it doesn't say anything at the top like how you described. This is a good thing. It looks as it were factory s-off since it doesn't say "unlocked" or "revolutionary"
If you want it to say revolutionary again, just rerun revolutionary. LOL
Only important thing is that it reads s-off.

[Q] S-Off without htcdev unlock

Hey guys, anyone have advice on whether or not to use HtcDev unlock method or wait for another method? I have a protection plan through Best Buy and they don't even check to see if its been "tampered" or not if I need a replacement. I am coming from EVO 3D and had hboot v1.4 so I never needed to use the HTC method. Just curious if it is harder to flash Roms and kernels with HTC method I guess. Thanks for the help in advance and its great to see such great devs working on this great phone already.
For the 3d it was a little harder, but not sure if that's the case for the LTE. I am personally gonna wait for s-off, but there is an app that let's you flash kernels without going through fastboot. Flashimage GUI I'm sure it will have to be updated to work with the LTE if It's even needed.
Sent from my EVO LTE!!
There is no s-off right now, but there are custom recoveries that work with the HTCDev unlock. Which means, custom roms and backups.
So am I correct in assuming that htcdev unlock with a custom recovery will function the same as s-off in terms of flashing roms, kernels, etc.? Also I should be able to still execute an s-off after performing the htcdev unlock, correct? I would hate to do the htc unlock method and then not be able to get s-off... Thanks again guys!
I have a similar question. When i use HTC dev to unlock, they will keep track. Do they notify sprint that my phone is no longer stock? Can you htc dev LOCK, so as to get it back to normal? I kinda don't even want to root if I have to let HTC know that I'm doing it by htc dev.

When you dev unlock HTC keeps the sn of your phone on file as being unlocked, I doubt they say anything to Sprint though. Even if you relock HTC still knows. I would give it a couple weeks and see if we get s-off if not then you might want to reconsider htcs method.

Not sure about s-off after unlock though I don't see why you couldn't, but on the 3d with the HTC unlock method you had to either fastboot into recovery through adb or use flashimage GUI to flash kernels.

First off htc dev sucks. I had it for a while on my evo 3d with hboot 1.5 and it was terrible and I was dying from being confused on how to flash roms. It worked great for some people and for others like me it didn't. So far right now i'm htcdev unlocked and it's fine I guess. Of course once we get s-off i'll totally go that way as s-off is soooooo much better than the dev unlock.

Yeah I heard it was terrible on the 3D, luckily I had hboot 1.4 so I had s-off... Is it as terrible with the LTE? It seems to me that with clockworkmod recovery and htcdev unlock you are able to flash zips the same as with s-off. Don't know if I am correct on that though...
I thought I read that somewhere too. If that's the case HTC dev unlock would be fine with me.

Use TWRP. That recovery writes to boot, the security flag dont matter with this phone like it did with the 3D. Once your unlocked (HTC way) you can always relock very easily. The first time I flashed a recovery it stuck on the first try unlike the 3D with hboot 1.5.

Now if the htc unlock allows us to write to boot to flash recovery and kernels, would there even be a reason to wait for dev S-off? besides not having to register with htc?

Just to clarify: So unlocking via the HTC method, installing this and then un-rooting with the RUU (if necessary) won't show any evidence of 'tampering', correct?
It might not show any evedence but HTC will know, they keep track of what phones are unlocked. That's why you go through the whole process with the unlock codes.

I dont understand what anybody cares if you register with HTC or not. I have insurance with Sprint and I have taken my phone to them to get repaired without any problems.

HTC Evo 3D stuck on JuopunutBear

I recently got a HTC evo 3d flashed to boostmobile and wanted to get it hack more which leaded me to wanting to install new roms on it. To do this i first wanted S off so i got on htcevohacks.com to look that up. I found and follow the post How to Get S-Off on HTC Evo 3D using Wire Trick! – [Juopunutbear S-OFF] but doing the proccess with controlbear.exe program the phone rebooted and got stuck on the Juopunut bear screen. I tried going to the fastboot mode and going to recovery but no use, it just reboots to fastboot mode when i try to go to recovery or do factory reset or anything of that sort and when i don't go to fastboot mode, it goes back to being stuck on the Juopunutbear screen, I need major help to reverse this effect please anyone...here is infos on phone interior>>

HBOOT 1.58 - S-off without JuopunutBear?

Hello everyone,
Sorry if this question is silly and / or has already been answered elsewhere in the forum and / or google. I have done a bit of digging but don't have the luxury of a lot of time.
I just want to know, is the only way to root and achieve s-off on a 3d with hboot 1.58 to use the juopunutbear "wire trick?"
I've done it before, but that phone had some issues and had to be sent in for repair. I now have a refurb replacement which I am trying to return to the same state as my previous phone (S-OFF w/ Eng HBOOT) so that I can restore my backed up image from 4EXT. I'd rather not have to do the wire trick again if I can help it but it looks like that's the only method viable with HBOOT above 1.4...
Thank you for your time.
the other way is 10x more complicated and risky than the wire trick(downgrade method) to my knowledge.
I suggest you do the wire trick again

Thanks for the response. I was trying to avoid it because I had a bunch of trouble last time and since I'm on an unsupported system the guys at Unlimited.IO were extremely rude.
However, since I couldn't find another method to do it and I needed to get my phone back up and running before going to bed I went ahead and did the wire trick again. This time it went a lot smoother. I'm S-OFF with the ENG 1.04 HBoot again, restoring my 4EXT backup. Hopefully all goes well and I can get some sleep :good:

if you run or can run linux, the Jbear method worked flawlessly for me 1st time out, where as other more complicated methods didn't.. e.g. "SetMainVersionLOW" rollback to previous versions and so on, even though "getvar all" returned that it set it to 1.00.000.0 I still couldn't use any RUU's, not sure exactly why they all said wrong version.
my phone before

[Q] 2+ yr old Hboot 1.58 EVO 3D ROOT/CONVERT !!!HELP!!!

I have an old EVO 3D i want to use as an mp3/media player and camera. Problem is I'm having a hard time rooting it so I can get the pre-installed apps off it. I tried the one guide off here, but either the HTC Sync manager could find my phone, some of the tools required for the root don't work with my phone (HBOOT 1.58) or they are gone/changed. The steps involved seem more complicated than it should. Any way this can be fixed?
Depends alot on how you want to do things.
Check to see if hboot says; locked, unlocked, or relocked. If locked you will need to go to htcdev website to get unlock token and see how to unlock. Unlocked hboot lets you install custom recovery, from which you can install su. If it says relocked, all you have to do is send fastboot command to unlock, phone has unlock token already.
It sounds like you are using windows, newer then xp, which you will need to find drivers :and fixes to get phone to connect.
I would use ubuntu, linux, no need for drivers and can run from flash drive. Or windows xp, anything newer has usb issues.

It says LOCKED. so where do I go from here?
You unlock, or s-off.
Sent from my DOWNGRADED EVO 3D
I put together an easy(easy as it gets) guide for s-off'ing your CDMA Ev03d with hboot 1.5x
the process is a little more complicated for 1.5x hboot phones due to revolutionary s-off not supporting any version newer than 1.4. And don't bother with unlocking with the token retrieval / HTcdev.com mess. It won't work with hboot 1.58. besides you will not have the full benefit of S-off with just unlocked phone
So you must brick the phone, then plug into linux terminal and and run recovery tool which will downgrade the hboot to 1.4 and the main version to 0.01. Then flash the main version to 1.13 by running a RUU exe. After that, you may run revolutionary s-off and you're rooted. Run the latest RUU and you are done and back on main version 2.95(after system updates) with hboot 1.58 and S-OFF, fully rooted
Things you'll need:
blank CD and burner, know how to boot from a CD
data USB cable
Micro-sd adapter so you can put files directly on your micro-sd from your PC
All summarized in my post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794935

Without some basic tech know-how, you're going to have a bad time
Your Hboot 1.58 needs to be downgraded to 1.40(the dirty way) before you can run revolutionary S-OFF.
Things you'll need:
Linux live boot disk/USB, trial version
USB data cable
Micro-sd adapter so you can put files on your micro-sd from your PC
All summarized in my post here in the first post

This isn't completely true. You can soff on hboot 1.58. It's been done many times and I did it myself.
This guide is pretty straight forward and geared exactly toward your situation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438
Otto, how's it going? , I know your situation sucked. It happens for some people, but it's not the case that everyone on 1.58 has to go through it. Most people can just go with juopunutbear s-off. It's usually when there's a phone repair and the motherboard had been swapped. It causes a mismatch in firmware with no option to run an ruu.

Oh yeah you could do that! Though I am totally unfamiliar with the juopunutbear, I was under the impression that it was for GSM only
I recently walked another user through rooting their sprint 1.58 hboot with success with brick/downgrade, though unknownforce's ultimate.zip did not work for them
