I need to return my Note back to stock. I rooted my Note back in Feb. the night I got it so I never did the official ICS update through OTA or Kies. Do I have to return back to GB that I started with or can I get by with flashing a stock ICS ROM, counter reset, and finaly Odin flash the stock recovery?
I appriciate any info ya'll guys are willing to provide.
ICS is the new stock... flash it.

Thanks! I have read several posts of people going all the way back to GB then doing the update to ICS through Kies. That seemed a little redundant and figured I'd ask lol. I assume all I need to do then is to flash the stock ICS rom, reset counter and then stock recovery (odin). Thanks again.

I think I misunderstood you. I thought you were asking which OS to use in order to be stock... not how to accomplish getting stock ICS on your phone. In any case I think if you are stock GB or stock ICS, Kies will work. But if you are running a custom/deodex version of GB/ICS, Kies will not work. That's probably what everyone was trying to tell you. So if you are running a custom ROM, you are going to need to flash a stock version of GB/ICS before Kies will work.

I gotcha. Actually been running JB for a while. Started of with GB which is when I rooted. Just didn't know if I had to go back to that or if I could just flash a stock 4.0.4 ROM before I retuned it for warranty (USB port issue). Bottom half of my screen doesn't register touch while charging.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
But does your USB issue affect the use of Odin? Be my first concern.
I don't believe it would. I can connect and is recognized on the computer and I can transfer files between phone and PC. I just have to unplug the cable from the phone in order for the screen to recognize touches around the lower half of screen

Should be good to go then. I would Odin flash stock GB, reset and double check the flash counter. Check for Kies connectivity and pending ICS update availability. Throw a bunch of random apps on to give an appearance of use. Return for warranty all while pretending Android is a great mystery to you, even though we know that's not the case. Best of luck.
Resolved! I went ahead and took the following steps.
Flashed the stock rar file (GB) through Odin
Flashed cwm touch recovery through Odin
Flashed stock (GB) modern through touch recovery
Flashed reset counter through touch recovery
Used ADB to install stock recovery (did not trip counter this way).
Now completely stock (GB), I connected to kies and updated to stock official ICS 4.0.4.
All set to return it for warranty!!!
Thanks for helping out guys!

i have been looking for the absolute bone stock bootloaders for my phone for about three hours now. i decided to reset it back to unrooted stock, but when i did, i used my jig and it still didnt reset the counter back to 0, so i found some bootloaders off of a 9100. it took my counter away, but now it says 9100 when i boot up. it is really annoying to see that when i boot up. so if anyone knows where i can find the stock bootloaders... or any bootloaders for 2.3.4 for that matter, please let me know... I WOULD BE VERY APPRECIATIVE!!! thanks

Just flash an ics rom and use triangle away

i actually managed to find the old bootloaders. the only downside is that it runs in a pda. but it worked perfect! and i didnt want to flash to ics again. i just came from ics. and plus, if i went back to ics just to do away with the triangle, i would end up getting it again when i flashed entrophy's kernel again, and i would be up that same creek again
ANYWAYS, if anyone needs the stock bootloaders, they are here!

this will allow you to use the jig trick to take away your binary counters!
thanks for the quick reply tho

You would not get the triangle again if you flashed his zip in cwm. Once you are rooted and have cwm there is almost no reason to ever flash with Odin again.

The files that i had were indeed 2.3.4 and rooted, but did not include cwm. And, yes i know the files are on a sticky in android dev. When i reset to stock, however, it did not replace the ics bootloaders, so where i flashed entrophy's kernel with heimdall, the ics bootloaders would not allow me to reset the custom binary count. But no worries. I found the gb bl's and got it all wiped. I am now running stock 2.3.4 (my personal fav) with entrophys and everything is running flawlessly. Overclocked to 1.45 stable and stock battery lasted over 24 hours with moderate usage. Thank you for the quick replies, and thanks to all the devs that are making my android experience the best out there!

Does samsung kies still have a chance of bricking your vibrant? I just used odin to flash back to stock and now I want to go to 2.1> 2.2>2.3>4.0.
I wouldn't risk it........
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464423
I got into cm7, and then i wiped data, cache, and tried to flash ics passion. After that, i kept getting boot looped and didnt have recovery so i had to use odin. Now im back at 2.1...what did i do wrong?
Get back to that point and when it bootloops, pull the battery, boot into recovery again and reflash ICS over itself.
From my guide
Once you are in recovery, scroll down to your folder and find the ICSv? (or whatever version you are wanting to flash) and flash it. First boot takes a long time just like before on CM7. Might also get into a bootloop like in CM7 too. If so, then do the same as before and reflash ICSv?, but this time you'll have to use the Volume-Down + Power (or if on Froyo Bootloaders the above key combo) to get into recovery. Boot up and you are good to go in you new ICS rom.

When you say that you didn't have recovery. Was that a custom recovery or you just saw the stock again? There should be no reason why you would not have recovery of some sort.
Agreed, pop your battery and return to cwm and flash, the kernel has updated, it should go now, listen to uncle wood.
and never use kies for anything!!!!!
Never kies
Go straight to 4.0. No need for in order. 2.1 is easiest to flash from anyways.
I've probably flashed hundreds of times now, test roms/kernel Worst case have to heimdall.
One time (n00b days) used Kies mini and it hard bricked me. Had to get jtagged riffbox.....

Yep .KIES can HB your mobile. I also updated via KIES from 2.1 --> 2.2 (OMG I didnt knew then.. Thanx goes to Woodrube for pointing that out.)
If you need to go to 2.2 there are always better way to than using KIES. this is a great thread which Now im using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674519

edit: No need to update to 2.2 brfore going to ICS. Its always better to flash back to stock before flashing ICS.
Never use kies, period. There are plenty of other options out there. Just in case you guys don't know about the EU bug, you should definitely read this if your planning to run ICS.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580902. I'm currently running a 2.2 ROM until this bug is figured out.

Just got a GSIII today and have been trying some JB ROMS out, but so far I have not been able to get WiFi working at all with any of them.
I have tried Vanilla RootBox, LiquidJB and SuperNexus but whilst I can see my WiFi AP on all of them and can enter my password all I get is the "Connecting..." message for ages before it gives up?
WiFi works fine on the stock ROM, and there are no obvious settings on the WiFi router itself which would be causing this.
Any advice appreciated!

Thanks, I just spotted a couple of threads mentioning this.
Couple of questions, when you say flash back to stock does that mean through CWM Recovery, or some other way? Does it have to be a straight flash to a downloaded stock ROM or am I able to just "restore" the backup I made?
Thanks again!

Cool, so I've got Odin (I believe that's what I used to root the phone?) Is there a specific .zip I need to flash back to? Also do I need to boot back in to the stock ROM or just stick JB straight back on again?
Please note, when you have flashed back to ics you need to then set up phone and connect to Wi-Fi once, then proceed to flash jb

Excellent. Do I need to download a specific "Stock ICS" ROM to do this? Any pointers as to where I can find this?
Thanks for the help people
I seem to remember I just flashed an old wannamlite Rom in cwm
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
These ones. (4.0.4)
Or try http://fus.nanzen.se/
This is if you want to find the original firmware your phone came with.
I'm still not having much luck with this.
Should I be wiping before I flash back to ICS, and then again before back to JB?
I think a wipe before flashing ICS is enough.
But watch the youtube video on the first post on :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646610
It pretty much explains every part of returning to stock ICS. From there it is just reflashing JB with odin and wifi should work.
Hmm, still not having much luck. I've installed my JB ROM, wiped, gone back to stock ICS using the ROM from the link provided above in ODNI.
But now when I try to reboot in to recovery to re-flash my JB ROM I seem to get a different version of recovery from what I had before and it fails during verification when I try to flash the .zip.
Any advice welcome!
I'm having the same problem here.
BUT, even flasing stock ICS and flasing a custom JB ROM after that does not solve the issue.
Here is what I did in what order. Maybe I'm missing some essential point or whatever:
- full wipe in cwm recovery
- flash stock ICS via Odin (I9300XXBLH3_I9300DBTBLH4_I9300XXLH1_HOME.tar)
- reboot and test WiFi. WiFi works fine! Firmware is 4.0.4
- flash CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 to gain root again
- boot into CWM Recovery, format /preload (to get rid of apps installing themselves on boot)
- another full wipe
- install zip from sdcard (tried AOKP JB build 4 for i9300 and ParanoidAndroid v2.22)
same old ****! WiFi not conecting!
I would apeciatie any help to solve this problem for me. Aparently reverting to stock ICS has solved this for others but I dont get what I'm donig wrong her...
try some router side adjustments

Okay so I Re-rooted with CF-Root through ODIN and have got CWM recover back, but now when I re-flash JB I still get the same problems, try to connect to WiFi and it just sits there saying "Connecting..." and then gives up!
Is there a specific set of steps for doing this? I connected to WiFi whilst back on the Stock ICS ROM (LG8) and that worked fine, I have tried various combinations of wiping/not wiping at each stage in between JB->ICS->JB with no luck. Do I need a particular Stock ROM to go back to, do I have to use a specific version of ODIN/CF-Root/CWM?
Very annoying as everything else about the Jelly Bean ROMS seems perfect!
Has anyone worked out why JB ROMS are doing this?
I have the same problem
It seems to work for some people to go back to ICS and then flash JB ROMs, but somehow it does not work for us..
I'm trying an old stock ICS now and the will flash cm10. lets see if that helps
I've downloaded a selection of stock and custom ICS roms to try with the process, hopefully something will do the trick!
Also I don't think changing router settings can have anything to do with this as it works fine for every other device I own, including a different handset running JB. However out of curiosity I spent last night playing with all the settings to see if anything would help. It didn't
U said u flashed back to stock.... In that case u lost cwm then ur gonna hafto re flash cwm

So last week I ODIN over the Swedish Jelly Bean for S3 as I was getting bored of waiting for the update. However, Vodafone have released the Jelly Bean update this morning so I wonder if it was possible to revert back to Vodafone's Ice Cream Sandwich to then get the official update from Vodafone.
So to summarise:
Non rooted Vodafone UK Samsung S3
Pushed the Swedish Official ROM using ODIN
Would like to go back to enable OTA updates to get official S3 JB ROM
Cheers
Download stock Vodafone ics firmware.
The best things to do is cfroot your device using Odin, then download triangle away and use it.
Then go to recovery and format system, and data under storage and mounts.
And wipe cache.
Then enter download mode and flash Vodafone stock using Odin.
The reason I say use cfroot and do it that way is to prevent any backwards compatibility that may occur if you flash straight over the top as odin does not format before flashing

Just out of curiosity, you are giving OP the most fool proof solution?
I thought rooting voids warranty (?), so my plan was to simply flash the older stock ROM from my region over the new stock ROM and then update OTA. Will that drastically increase the chances of ****ing up?

Great, thanks very much. I would like to keep it unrooted at the moment, so do I need to just unroot it prior to flashing the Vodafone stock ROM.
At the moment when I connect my phone to Kies it tells me that it is not available to update firmware and I would like to not have this with the original Jelly Bean ROM.

If you use triangle away you should have no issue. At the stage you enter recovery and wipe system and data you will have no rom on the phone. When you flash stock Vodafone ics it will be unrooted.
If you didn't want to go through all of this you could download the Vodafone branded Odin flashable jb rom and flash it over the top.
The only reason I'm suggesting cfroot is because you are talking of going back to ics first. Using this method would avoid all potential problems of flashing backwards, is more of a precaution that's all.

Ok, been away from the note 2 for a min. Anyone want to give me the low down on all this 4.3 stuff? I'm seeing roms say that MJ9 has to be flashed in Odin before a the rom can be flashed? Is this a one time deal or does it have to be done every time I want to flash a tw rom? Do I have to do anything to go back to an aosp rom? You have to flash MJ9 firmware that has the tz, params and modem in it.. This allows wifi to work.. then flash away! Just do not flash MJ9 official OS KIES bc you'll lock your bootloader..
Once your done flashing the firmware you can flash in between roms no problem doesn't matter what version,4.1.2, 4.3 or aosp 4.4.2:good:

Alright, got one more question. So I thought I had bricked my phone last night. Accidentally flashed an S4 stock rom. I know, dumb. Anyway, after 3 hours of trying to Odin multiple stock roms, I finally got one to take and the phone booted. So I immediately went and used casual to root the device. Everything went fine there. I went ahead and updated TWRP to the latest and proceeded to flash aokp. It locked up at the boot animation. So I then tried to flash a 4.1.2 tw rom. This is where it got weird. It flashed fine but then it never booted. Just a black screen after the Samsung splash screen. I then decided to try and Odin a rooted 4.1.3 rom. Still nothing. So last ditch effort I odin'd the pit file. Back in business on an unrooted tw rom. Now when I try to use casual, it won't download the proper driver to root again. Gives a perpetual error and requests the driver be installed over and over until I pull the USB cable. Is there something I'm missing?
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
Try this. With the phone booted, go into device manager on your computer and uninstall the driver. Then boot the phone into download mode and uninstall the driver for it in device manager. Boot phone back up and try casual again. Also make sure your Antivirus is off before you run casual.
