Need some community opinions please - HTC EVO 3D

Running Venom's Viper3D ROM right now (which is an amazing ROM by the way) and I was looking for some different ROMs. Don't get me wrong, I love Sense, but there's always a time for change. I was wondering if people could point me in the right direction to some really good AOSP, AOKP, & MIUI ROMs that could be used on the daily. Any help would be much appreciated. I've looked and looked but there are just so many out there. Possibly deodexed and themeable would be great. 3D and 4G not working isn't really an issue as I don't use 3D and I can't use 4G cause I'm in Akron. I'm not saying I'm ever gonna leave Viper3D, its just I wanna get into the dual/multi booting and I want some good, clean ROMs to run.
My phone specs are:
rooted using htcdev
jbear's 1.585858
radio 1.09------

If your gonna flash an AOSP based ROM, your gonna have to downgrade your hboot to 1.4 or 1.5.
Flash an AOSP ROM
I personally use TeamJB's Gangman style. Hope that helped.

The Viper3D ROM I'm running now is about 600+mb in size and I've seen that CM's are only about 200. I'm left with 400mb system space to install apps and I would like a bit more. I'm trying to steer away from a senseless ROM, but I know that might not be possible if switching to another ROM. I've downgraded to the engineering 1.4 boot loader before and had to flash the stock ROM just because most ROMs that I'm into have to be running 1.58. I just don't wanna downgrade to a 1.4 hboot and be screwed with a non-working phone. I know that I can always upgrade back to the 1.58 hboot but I'm just trying to find a good ROM to flash using the least steps as possible.

A thread has been set aside by the mods for asking about ROMs. Papa Smurf usually locks others. I'd ask here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950596

How do I have them move/remove it if its already been asked somewhere else?

I'd copy and paste your original request to the ROM discussion thread then just use the report button to request this thread be closed.

So there's no way to keep this thread open to opinions?

That's up to the moderators. If this thread gets closed, the one that coal linked has been approved by the moderators for getting information about ROM's, but not to discuss what is the "best" ROM.

help stuck & confused with rom's and Kernel with Hboot 1.5

Ok I finally got my EVO rooted it has Hboot 1.5
What I would like to know because after hours of searching I have found out if you flash a custom rom you lose 4g and I think wi-fi and neither am I willing to part with.
I was thinking of using clean rom since all I really want to do is get rid of the bloatware. Unless there is a more stable/better rom please let me know.
And exactly how to keep wifi and 4g.
I was on these forums and there is a post that says use flash image gui.
That is one of the most confusing threads I have read. ( I have read it at least a half a dozen times)
So if someone can either give me non confusing instructions or point me in the right direction to do this.
Like I said I am on hboot 1.5.
P.S. all I really want to do is get rid of all the bloatware so if there is a way to do that without flashing a custom rom please feel free to let me know.
P.P.S. Is there a way to have stock kernel with a custom rom so I dont lose 4g & wifi.
Thak you guys for your time and patience.
I used to have an Optimus s with your moms rom on it.
- Yes, click the useful links thread in my signature, go down to around 13], you'll see a link for safe apps to remove. You can do it with Titanium backup or the StockRemoverApp that's listed there.
- I was unlocked on 651.3 Stock, had to "relock" to run the 651.5 Ruu/update & unlock again. There aren't a lot of 651.5 ROM options right now b/c the kernel source hasn't been released. Basically don't run a 651.3 ROM with a 651.5 based phone b/c of the different radios.
- 651.5 stock rooted works well for me, but I'm trying out MeanRom v.6 now. It still has most.of the bloat in it tho, which I removed. Zone23's TrevEzone ROM looks promising, and I've heard FreshRom (i think) is good. These 651.5 Sense based roms currently are stuck with the Stock kernel so everything should work (no 4G in my area to verify).
- it's kind of daunting looking around for stuff here, but I've also got some flashing "scenarios" & info in the ROM/recovery Issues thread (see my signature) that may help u.

With hboot 1.30, you can use revolutionary. That's definitely what you should do.

I think you can use the revolutionary way of root read about it
Thanks for the input. I successfully rooted with revolutionary, installed cwm recovery, made a backup, and then flashed the latest twrp recovery (I believe that's what everyone is recommending I use). I was hoping someone would be kind enough to post some rom and kernel recommendations. I am looking for something with sense that is stable, working 4g, and working 3d features (I also think I read in some roms that 3d things were broken). I am not new to flashing or rooting (the 3d is the 5th phone I've rooted) and so far things seem similar to my og evo. Any help is appreciated. Once again, thanks for the help and recommendations!

Glad to help. I've been using Viper Rom for the past week or two, and it's super stable, and gets great battery life. Many people also speak highly of clean rom, mean rom, eternity, etc. Basically, there are a lot of Sense based ROMS out there to choose from. Any rom with Sense 3.0 should have all the features (4G, 3D) working. Good luck.
My vote is for Warm 2.3 as a super stable and fully functional ROM.
Partitioning SDcard
Thanks for the tips on roms? Any kernel recommendations? I wanted to overclock the device but didn't want to lose any features. Also, if someone could point me in the direction as to partitioning the sdcard that would be great. Can it be done in recovery or should it be done on a pc? What type of filesystems are recommended and what should I set sizes at? Thanks in advance for everyone's help with this. I pretty much know some ways to do this, I just need to know what is recommended for the 3d.

Rezound Newb

Hello everyone. I received a Rezound today! I'm not new to Android or ROM's, but the last HTC I had was the Eris. Can anyone recommend a ROM? I'm coming from a DX2 which only had a few ROM options. I have to say the choices for the Rezound are a bit overwhelming. Where should I begin?
If you want ics, start with cleanrom. It is stable and will give you a good ics experience. Once you get a feel for it, try out a few bamf roms, and sense 4 roms.
Welcome to the rezound

They're all great, but you just need to be careful about which one you select since most of us are now running the leaked firmware and some ROMs are designed specifically for that. It would probably be a good idea to use one of Scrosler's ROMs at first since he generally has a bunch of directions about what to do if you are on the old firmware. Essentially, you would flash Srosler's CleanROM and then flash a patch (though he might have done away with the patch). Just look at the different ROMs and read through the threads. There will be a ton of stuff to read, but you really need to in order to be ready so you don't mess anything up. But really, you can't go wrong with any of the different ROMs. I've tried every ROM on this phone and still haven't picked my favorite. They're all that good. I usually switch once a week
That being said, make sure that you are unlocked through HTC Dev. There are plenty of threads in the dev section that will get you started and tell you how to do that. After that, you'll have your bootloader unlocked and will be ready to flash a custom recovery. Make sure that you use Amon Ra's new release. 3.15 would be for those who have flashed the new firmware and 3.14 is for the old firmware. Don't use CWM because it's generally buggy for our phones. Welcome aboard
I highly recommend Rezrom 3.3, its amazingly fast and stable, and lllboredlll has the patch you can download if you do not want to update to the new firmware. All the roms are great though and its really just personal preference.

That one is really good, too, if you're looking for some very nice theme work. Every ROM I've tried has been fast, stable, and sexy as hell. Plus every dev here will be there to help you if something goes wrong with the ROM (if you didn't cause the issue, of course )
EDIT: IF you do want to flash the leaked RUU, even though you don't have to, but if you do, read everything that you can about it. How to do it, what to do if something goes wrong, everything. Then read THIS guide from Scrosler. It'll walk you through the steps pretty carefully so you don't mess up. But again, you need to read EVERYTHING that you can about flashing it so nothing goes wrong.
I have tried all the roms. They're all great! but the one I'm waiting on is Newts 4.0 sense. Should release the update today.
Thanks for the input guys!
I've successfully unlocked the bootloader and installed Amnon's Recovery. I'm downloading CleanROM Pro 4.3 right now. Hopefully that goes smoothly.
I didn't install the leaked firmware as my understanding it that once you do, you can't go back. I think it would be better for me to hold off on that for now until I fully understand what positives/negatives are of each. Have most of you upgraded to the leaked firmware?

That's right, once you update to the new RUU, there's no going back. At least not until we have S-Off. It would probably be best just to not update yet until the OTA is released. I know a lot of us are on the new firmware, but that's mainly because the newer ROMs were going to be new firmware only. Some of them still are and require a patch. I say just hold off, too. At least this way you will have no worries of not being able to return your phone.
Yes I have and don't let it scare you. It's just a matter of repeating what you just went through to get your Rezound rooted. It was well worth it for me.
Smooth sailing! I'll all ROM'd up. Thanks again guys!

Gingerbread to ICS (CDMA)

Long story short… I have been very busy for the last 6 months and not been keeping up with all the changes for the CDMA EVO 3D. I am not really sure the best way to get from here to there. I am not a noob and don’t really need my hand held or a dummy’s guide (I have been messing with Android since the HTC Hero and rooted lots of phones and pads). There has been just to many new ways to root and leaked roms…etc. It would be nice to skip all the BS and get caught up with what most people are currently doing.
My current config…
H-Boot: 1.40 s-off via Revolutionary Method
Recovery: TWRP v2.1.1
Rom: ViperRom Redline v2.5 RC2
Would it be better to just RUU back to stock Gingerbread then upgrade to ICS and re-root or is better way to get to ICS with root???? I am not trying save anything on my phone. I am a big fan of wiping and super wiping multiple times before loading a new rom. Also is there any benefit to H-Boot 1.5 or higher?
If this has already be asked can you point me to the correct thread.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I'm reading right, just search the development forums for an ics rom, flash it and you're good to go. NEVER TAKE OTA
Sent from my EVO 3DMA with a little "Common Sense"
Tl;dr.
Just kidding. I'm running the latest ics rooted Roms on hboot 1.4 revolutionary s-off. I ran freeza's firmware update without the new hboot. This lets me run everything except the new kernel (which most new Roms don't use). If you insist on the new kernel, you can upgrade the hboot too, but you lose the ability to flash aosp and GB Roms.
So, in short, you just need to pick a rooted ics Rom and go. I like zr3dx, Meanrom, homebrew, or common ground.
I also recommend you change to 4ext recovery. It's really nice.

after downgrading from ICS to GB, my free ram become low from free 380mb on ICS to 222 on GB

Been away for a while could use some help

Well... After an issue with the digitizer in my phone I had to finally have it recently replaced. I had recently loaded the ICS OTA and actually for the most part liked it alot. I have rooted and done some roms with my 3d when it was Hboot 1.4 with Rev S off and root method. But my phone is currently Hboot 1.5 after replacing it. I havent loaded it to the OTA for ICS. But im trying to decide what I want to do. Id like to root and S off if I can and find a Rom/OTA that works great with the best performance and options with reduced bloat. ICS is pretty cool that I used, but seemed like some bugs with it to. Any suggestions of help on getting me there and in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Ive done some searches here and there on the forum. But really after taking time out for a medical issue I havent been in the loop til now. Thanks ahead of time for any help and suggestions you can push my way.

Here's what I would do in your situation:
1. Do HTC unlock and flash 4EXT recovery
2. Backup current ROM so you have a nandroid of GB stock
3. Root GB stock ROM and do JuopunutBear (wire trick) with GB version to gain S-OFF
4. Flash 2.89 RUU.exe to get solid Sprint ICS base (firmware and software)
5. Flash Jbear Sprint ICS (1.58.5858) or engineering (ENG) bootloader
6. Flash 4EXT recovery (via fastboot flash recovery.img)
7. Backup current ROM so you have a nandroid of ICS stock
8. Flash whatever ROM's you want to try and check them out
If all the ROM's you are interested in are ICS Sense, then the JB Sprint ICS bootloader is fine, but if you want to flash and run GB and AOSP ROM's the ENG bootloader is a better choice, but it won't run the 2.89 stock kernel.
That's one opinion.

If anyone else has suggestions or preferences Id love to hear them.

The Sprint ICS 2.89.651.2 release with Sense 3.6 is the latest official build, but there have been several CM10 based ROM's released using the AOSP 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) base, and some Sense 4.0 and 4.1 ROM's that run on the E3D.
My favorites are still MeanROM ICS 2.6 and SOS M 2.6.1 which use the same base. Here's a post I wrote back in May that enumerates the fixes mikeyxda had done to the VM leak base at that time and most of those fixes and enhancements were transferred to the Sprint ICS 2.89 based version, with some new ones added. SOS M is de-Sensed and offers a lot of customization built-in and via the Aroma installer with a minimal amount of effort. Both ROM's are fully functional and have good reliability, performance and battery life.
I've tested a lot of interesting ROM's with some unique features including Paranoid Devil with a tablet configuration option and Charmander with Sense 4, but they both have some stuff not working, including 3D and WiMax/4G. If you don't need those features you might also want to try some of the AOSP ROM's (CM9, CM10 and MIUI) since they are very light and clean, and a lot of the current development activity seems to be with those ROM's. If you want a full ICS Sense 3.6 based ROM with a lot of mods integrated, Cool ICS is worth a look too.
ramjet73
Thanks Ramjet. Im gonna check out the MeanRom ICS, SOS and Cool ICS. In past ive liked a sense based rom but Im open to other stuff. My main thing is wanting as few as issues or non working things as possible. Even the OTA of ICS has to muc issues. But the in general feel and look was good.
Thanks for the input and direction. I may hit you up on some advice if thats cool? Thanks again.

Ok So I got it unlocked. and installed the APK of the 4EXXT recovery. But its giving me some issues saying I need S-off before I can use it? I assume its a program that runs on the Phone not a recovery like ive been used to with the boot loader? If its a flash that flashes the boot loader i seem to be having issues finding it. How do I need to go about rooting? Is root the same as S off? Its been a while since doing all this kinda stuff and just getting back into it. Thanks for any direction you can give me.

This post by mpgrimm2 (part of his overall guide) covers flashing a custom recovery (like 4EXT) and superuser from the PC command prompt via fastboot. Those are the two steps required for rooting, after you have HTC unlocked.
Once you've done that you can move on to gaining S-OFF with either the JuopunutBear (wire trick) or Hboot downgrade method, which is setting the security off for the NAND memory of your phone, and allows you to flash more stuff and not have to use the fastboot command to do it.
It's probably time to move on to the Q&A forum since this has changed from an advice thread into a help thread.
