After a canceled backorder and a list in shipping FedEx order my Optimus G arrived today and I must admit it's sick. I have been playing with it all afternoon and I mush admit I am a fan. I also saw today that the bootloader is finally unlocked, perfect timing I might add lol. Now all I need is a stock jelly bean room and I'll be a kid in a candy store.
Congrats. You have made a wise purchase:good:

I believe that I did, my only concern is getting a stock jelly bean rom on it. Without that I'll be somewhat disappointed because the UI is horrid and the battery gets drained by it.

Me too ... bought the Optimus G as a replacement for Note 2. While i love the phone and how awesome it is, i miss jellybean especially google now. Hopefully we can get a AOSP rom so that i can git rid of ICS and this UI.

I would almost be happy with a stock ICS ROM. It's no project butter, but stock ICS would fly on this thing.
Given the similarity of the Optimus G to the Nexus 4, now that the bootloader is unlocked, I would think you'll see CM10.x variants for the OG shortly. At this point those would probably be 4.1.x instead of 4.2.x as there is no 4.2.x version of CM10 (they are still working on it).
I hear so much griping about stock launchers. I haven't used a stock launcher in years, and currently use nova launcher. It was fast enough on my ion, but on the LGOG, it's *really* fast.

Actually it isn't the UI draining battery it is the 3g not going to sleep.
With that said, I personally love the LG UI much more than touchwiz. The quickmemo is awesome.
My second day with this phone and I love it except the battery. Its just so weak. But the speed is boss.

On the contrary, there is nothing weak about the lithium polymer battery in the Optimus G. Granted, there are many factors that effect battery life. The battery in the LGOG is more powerful and retains more of its charge, than other lithium ion batteries, of comparable size and weight. LG is no sloutch when it comes to making cellphone batteries.

I am terribly jealous! I ordered mine on Amazon over the weekend but the phone is still backordered.
Hopefully I get Best Buy to price match and get the phone sooner!
Honestly, when the software bug is fixed which is causing to the phone to check net_stat every minute, this thing could last up to two days with normal usage. The bug is preventing the phone from sleeping properly, and I still get a days usage from moderate usage!

Hey guys,
I'm interested in the Amaze and I've got some questions! I currently have a G2x and am pretty disgusted that it's reached its EOL status already even though it's more than capable of running ICS. Besides, the battery life was just awful (can't make it through 2 whole days) and I like the larger screen, better processor, and more RAM of the Amaze.
Since it's by HTC, I can assume that when Jelly Bean comes along, the Amaze will be receiving it officially, right? If not, has there been any history with getting the drivers that are needed to do unofficial development? There are lots of unofficial ICS ROMs for the G2x but there's no hardware acceleration and the battery life is terrible on those (can't even make it through a single day).
How's the battery life on the Amaze? How many days of use can you make it through without having to charge the device? As long as its like 1.5 days I'll be satisfied. I just don't want the "15% of battery remaining" messages if I just charged the device the night before.
It has a Micro SD card slot, right?
Would I need a screen protector or is the screen very scratch-resistant?
Any other problems I should know about that are common with the phone? Please be HONEST! lol.
Thanks, brosephs!

I have no idea on the official update.
For me, 1.5 days is the maximum for battery life. But, it usually is enough for a day in general (except when I use lots of GPS and play games).... YMMV though (some people claimed they get the phone up for 2 days)
Yes, it has micro SD card slot.
Just go get a screen protector... Better be safe than sorry
Some common problems can be found in this forum... The most popular one is: light bleed!!!
Honestly though, the reason I get the Amaze is because I was able to get it for a relatively cheap price (compared to samsung s2, etc) and the better camera
First off and take it how you will, but most of the info you are looking is on the spec list.
Battery life on any large screen device won't last 1.5 days with heavy use.
Haven't these same questions been asked a billion times?
Cheers

Not really; I was confused about the SD card slot b/c I did see it on a few spec sheets but in a couple video reviews there was no mention of one and I didn't see one. Thanks for the battery info though.

Really? That's exactly the kind of answer I was hoping I wouldn't get. Oh well. At least you guys have ICS lol. I don't want to buy new so that I can save some money so the SGS3 is out of the question. It's basically either stick with the G2x until the prices on even better phones drop, or buy the Amaze and deal with the battery issue. I won't mind terribly if I don't get more than a day's use out of it. All I really do is check the news in the morning and text a few times throughout the day and then check some sites, browse some forums, and watch some videos in the evening. I think it'll be alright for that kind of use.

About the Amaze. WIFI calling issues, er05 common. Nice scratch resistant screen. The devs that take good care of us are working hard at picking up all the slack that Tmobile and HTC left with issue. I own one as my daily phone. using speedrom as my daily driver. Jellybean is not going to be on the Amaza as a OTA. We were lucky to get ICS. White one is out of stock and Tmobile told me they are done. I enjoy the phone cause of replaceable batt, ext. sd card, screen and camara.
Just one persons opinion

I think it's a great device, coming from the galaxy s2 and galaxy nexus, battery life isn't the best, but I get a days worth, the camera is pretty awesome, what I liked was the camera buttons, I wanted my sd card, reason why I jumped ship from the Nexus. So as I always say, it's all down to personal preference.

It's the best phone with its specs imho
I would stay saw too sorry to say. It is a great device and I still don't regret choosing this over the GS2. Great hardware for the future and the few ROMs and Devs that we are lucky to have are fantastic. But for a more "fun" device to tinker with... I would wait for something better or get a device that has global support and the devs to back it up.

Lol. It's gonna be at least a year until that falls into my price range for now. I'll stick with my G2x and MIUI for now. I just really wanted ICS and some spec bumps while i was at it. :/ Maybe I'll consider the HTC Sensation depending on how the 'lite' version of the Sense 4.0 ROM turns out.

As I said, personal preference, for me the following are worth getting the amaze for compared to the G2x:
Better Camera (wayyyyyyy better camera, this thing is amaaaazing, pun intended)
Faster processor and faster phone over all.
Better design and solid feel.
FM radio, unlike the g2x which has fm radio but tmobile had it disabled.
More internal memory 16GB>8GB, like really, that's obvious.
faster data speeds 42mbps>21mbps
Should I say more?

With ICS battery isn't so bad, but you need to be aware that the large screen eats up the battery. I get 18 hours to 1 day, but I don't have a heavy usage. I carry a spare battery (two in fact, because my case has that kind of room), just in case. But I've seldom had to use it since ICS came out. With heavy use you may not get through the day on a single screen. But at least you can swap out batteries (unlike the One S).
The MicroSd card is under the battery cover, which is why it isn't seen from the outside.
The phone is the best I've owned. I'm using NRG ICS, which is snappy and really nice.
It will not get Jelly Bean from T-Mobile. Maybe XDA will be able to port it, but don't count on that.

Samsung...never again
Not enough of a difference between the two imo, and I'll never buy another samsung again. I'll just hope there's some great phones in about a year from now
I have been following along for the last week. Some of you may remember me from the G2x forums. Those that have/had the G2x know all the woes that came with it.
I am looking to upgrade tomorrow. For those coming from the G2x give me you thoughts on jumping to the galaxy S3. The good and the bad.
Thanks.
I was PMing a dude earlier and he said the only thing was the screen size and getting used to its size, everything else is an upgrade though... so like me you're gonna have to play with the phone in hand to see if that will be an issue, other then that do the upgrade I'd say, I'm going to do it sometime this week.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
Is that a rhetorical question? Of course yes!
Heck yes upgrade.
I got it on Thursday and have not had to reset my data connection since! that alone makes it worth it to me.
I actually did have a good G2X though, I didn't have any issues with it other than the data not staying on.
This phone feels great holding it, the screen is very nice, and the battery holds a charge much better than my G2X.
No regrets from me.
update:
One down side (not for long I hope) is the TouchWiz. I am a stickler for vanilla android.
G1->Rom'd MT3G Slide->G2x
Hopefully we get some good Roms cooked up for this phone, I can't wait!
yes, definitely upgrade. I upgraded from a rooted g2x running hellfire sandwich. Anything you disliked about the g2x is basically solved by the GS3. fast fast fast... it's handled about everything I've thrown at it. GPS is super fast too. The lightweight feel takes getting used to, but it definitely feels better than my original galaxy vibrant did. The screen is gorgeous, and battery life is great. I have a tough time discharging it to "condition" the battery and often end up with still 40% by bedtime.
The downside is... brick/mortar stores have next to no accessories for it yet. =P
Hell yes! I did and no Regrets!

Smart choice bro, I think I remember you from the G2X threads from a little over a year ago.... Even GS2 was a huge step over the G2X lol, but yea man you made the right choice. I personally got the International GS3 for gaming purposes but the US version is just as great.
Against my own advice of buying a Nexus I am about to buy a Dinc4G off contract and simply because I broke my Dinc2 screen two times in a row...
How is the Dinc4G? Any issues (software or hardware glitches)? I want to ensure that it is a good phone. I know it has great specs, but that is half the story. The other half is living with it (and I learned from my experience with the Droid X2 and Transformer prime)..
So any issues at all? Or is it smooth sailing?
EDIT: OMG! I bought the phone!
Now please god, let me make up some of that cash from the Dinc2 sale.

i would say smooth sailing, well the sdcard thingy, but the only problem i have had is waiting for root.
I like mine. It's noticeably faster than the Incredible 2. I bought a 64GB SDCard from Amazon for $44.
I think you'd like it. S off is coming. I liked the og Inc better than my Inc 2 and the 4g reminds me of the first incredible. And you already know the devs are good ones.
---------- Post added at 04:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:18 PM ----------
One thing is my first 4g had about 10 dead pixels so I got a new one. The new one has some of the back light bleeding from the bottom bezel though but that's nbd to me
the form factor is closer to the og inc than inc2 (though not *That* different)
i have no complaints with mine, and plan on keeping it for a long time...even when the dlx/dna launches (ill just swap sims when i want use one or the other)

Hold on a sec! You said what now about SD cards? I guess it shouldn't be major issue but I'd like to hear moar!
I am about to finalize the deal and I don't wanna over think this. Yes, I was an idiot to drop my Dinc2 and crack the screen for a second time, and it cracked easily since I probably didn't install it properly first time around. And yes, it is gonna be expensive to go off contract, but anywho... i hope the resale value for the Dinc4G is good ones my upgrade comes around.... :/
Man, do I know how to waste good money . Anyway gang, I will shortly join you and we can continue our crusade of the missing OTA update for Key Lime Pie... (4.2, I guess, ain't it!)
Welcome back to the land of Dix! Thanks all! I hope I don't mess up my future phones like this... It is only after you drop and break a phone you realize that you have to treat these devices like babies... Don't Drop Them!
Personally, I like mine but the build quality has been questionable. I took my first one back after a day of use because the screen was discolored, used the next one for about a month with a creaky battery cover before a crack started forming at the headphone jack, and finally the one I have now seems acceptable. The only design annoyances I've found are that the camera lens clicks as it focuses (bad for video) and the buttons don't have much feedback. Reception could be better, but it generally works fine.
Other than that, good software, good screen, good battery life.

This. Check out the original thread about the issue:

I swapped out my DInc4G twice with Best Buy because of the screen discoloration issue. The last phone I received from Best Buy had the same issue and HTC was kind enough to exchange my phone for a new one. I'm currently on my third DInc4G. All was fine until a month ago when the screen discoloration appeared on my current phone. I may contact HTC again but I've been busy and don't feel like going through the hassle of setting up my phone again.
I haven't experienced any other issues with the phone. The battery life is great compared to my OG DInc, and once we get s-off, it will be an even better phone.

Haha, damn. I just bought it. Anyway, sounds like the screen discoloration issue is primarily due to the glue not having fully cured and all? And I was guessing this has solid build quality. Well, you always have a few bad ones, but I wonder if I activate a Dinc4G on my line and I have issues down the road, can I do a Certified replacement from Verizon?

YEAH! I just got mine and already very happy. The 4G is the first thing to blow my mind! It is better than the WiFi speed I get at my room (though right next to the router, I should get exceptional WiFi)!
Now, get me up to speed, y'all! Is it okay to update to the latest OTA? And do we have root? Or should I just wait till the S-OFF rather than root it now? :cyclops: :fingers-crossed:
Cheers!

well, we are waiting on a s-off exploit, yes you need the new ota to run the exploit. i would wait for that if i were you, but i don't know how long it will be before it's released. that's about it.
Just chatted with AT&T. It's been delayed once already that I know of. How many more times will it get delayed, you think?

O-o Rich Hubbard will be on fire now )
Not surprised at all, they will continue to have excuses and when it does come out it will be the only update we shall see. Glad I like the phone for what it is and am not too worried on the jelly bean switchover...I just want a smooth "bugless" phone which for the most part it is.

Oh foooooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkk mmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeee lol This is nut's lol really AT&T how hard is this lmao Seeeeee if LG would make the right ****!!!!!!!!!! We wouldn't have all these problem's bwahahhahahaahaha hey just my two cents lmao
Come on Rich Hubbard! Give us more details!
this is why I sent it back even though I loved the phone. there was no reason why the phone should have been released with ICS in the first place. its a beautiful phone but battery was a no no. plus jelly bean should come. by that time key lime pie will be the new kid on the block in the months to come. and I highly doubt LGOG would ever get that. I was completely spoiled with battery from the note 2

Hardly a credible source, to be honest :what:

They are too busy implementing their bloatware, and removing stock Android features (free tethering)

God knows they need to shoehorn in their subscription Navigator app. I'd like to round up all the people who actually pay for that service and slap each one. Granted it's probably nearly all elderly people, but still.

Good thing AT&T told a random rep in a call center when the JB push is coming...¬_¬

Your loss. Considering how well it runs ICS and how little you actually gain with Jellybean, it's not like the phone is somehow inferior without the update. Let's look at what you get:
1) Project Butter - which will make almost no noticeable difference in the way the phone runs
2) Improved notifications - Good
3) Google Now - excellent
That's it, really. Of those, Google Now is the only "must have" for me and I can wait a few months. The phone runs great as is and has lots of excellent customizations by LG that actually make it a better phone than it would be stock. I'm more concerned that they will introduce bugs or remove features with the JB update than anything.
I'm not sure what your issue was with battery, either. Mine has been great.

You don't even have to wait for Google Now if you're willing to flash a ROM that has it. Sure, it's not the latest and greatest version of it, but it works perfectly well
Sent from my LG Optimus G - I can't believe it's not Project Butter!

His loss indeed. The way this phone runs out of the box beats any other devices stock to stock. Rooted and debloated it's even better. JB isn't the giant leap that some people are making it out to be imo. I have no problem waiting myself. If I wanted it now I'd flash the Korean port.
I'm not holding my breath

Exactly! My worry also - that it will mess something up with a JB update. The phone (for me) is perfect as is & I love it & don't want anything to mess it up. I am getting excellent battery life & for me that can't be improved because the battery life is phenominal for me. In short, the LGOG E970 AT&T version is THE phone for me & I love it & don't want anything to change. If JB comes, I will wait anyway before updating just to make sure that there weren't any problems caused by the update.
why does everyone get so touchy when someone says they returned the LGOG. I was just stating my opinion that's all. I don't know what my deal with battery was either. I could actually sit there while using it and watch it drain. even after conditioning. this was with a complete restore as well. sometimes dropping almost 10% in an hour with hardly doing anything with it. amazon didn't have any left in stock at the time of the return so I opted for a refund. not saying not having jelly bean is the reason for returning it. all I am saying is this phone should have shipped with it. there was no reason not too period. it will prob get it. but I wouldn't hold my breath after that. especially after the pro is released. just my 2 cents

Agree 100%.
Sadly, a lot of everyday users probably have no idea Google maps has navigation, and since I don't think it is stock installed on at&t devices, they never see it.
I had to tell my techchallenged aunt not to use any at&t crap on her phone.
6 months later she got an iPhone and a hotspot plan so she could wirelessly teather after her router acted up.
I had to facepalm because I could have gotten her free teathering on her Android phone.
Slightly related, does anybody know if there is an unlimited dataplan with the hotspot plan? She was adamant she had unlimited even though my understanding is 5 gigs is as high as you can go on a single plan.
Hello there i have a GSM Gnexus running on paranoid android 3.68 and i'm not really happy with it. Recently it started to show it's age and even though i'm happy with it's design and kinda emotionally attached to it, im thinking of buying a new phone. I've been doing a research on which phone i should buy and from both a financial standpoint and a user standpoint, i decided to buy DNA. I was wondering if anyone had regrets with buying this phone or think that they should have bought a different phone instead of this?
Thanks.
This is a great phone, and you'll love it if you're coming from a Gnex. There's not as much development as on Nexuses or Samsung devices, but there's still plenty of roms choose from. I personally don't regret buying it.
There are a ton of ROMs man I doubt your miss your gnex

I don't really mess that much with roms as i don't really have time for it i just want to apply the sense 5 rom to my phone if i buy it and i'll stick with that for quite a while. Also as i find it unnecessary to open a new thread can i use any kernel i want regardless of what rom iam using on my phone or do i have to use the ones that are compatible?

Aosp roms for anything built off of cyanogen. And then you have your sense roms that just use the sense kernels. I recommend crpalmers kernels aosp or sense they are excellent

I would use viper ROM if your going sense more customizable and other sense ROMs feel sluggish in comparison. Its not sense 5 though and of course this is only my opinion.

Get the DNA, you won't regret it at all. :good:
DNA is a good choice, first time I believe I've been able to enjoy android and leave it on the same rom for many months because it functions so reliably and quickly. Especially quickly, I've always hated how android stalls as a whole compared to iPhones.
For sense 5, NOS M7 is more or less the most common and reliable. There are 2 or 3 major sense kernels to try.
Beware, if you want Cyanogen, don't expect it to run as nicely as sense on this phone.
Oh, and <3 Battery life
I just came from gnex and I am so glad I did. Not a whole lot to choose from comparatively, but the device itself is such an upgrade.
Viper is unlike anything on the gnex, and Tranquil is not bad either.
The screen, sound quality, camera, processor, battery life, EVERYTHING is an improvement from the gnex.
I sold my bought the DNA on craigslist for 175 and sold my gnex for 140, so it's also an awesome value

I thought battery life was an issue
Only if you are looking to be on the phone for 4 hrs straight (which depending on the rom can be quite possible)

I usually use my phone for like 10-12 hours with 2 hours of screen on time with 3g on(Unfortunately there is no 4g in the country i'm living in) Would it be ok?
Easily! Right now I'm on 9 1/2 hours battery life and 1 1/2 hours screen on time and I'm at 45% but that is on miui which is a much heavier rom than most.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
im a light user with 4g, NOS m7, beaups kernel, crossbreeder i get around 36 hours with maybe 2 hours screen on time lol
I'm just completely in love with this phone right now and %90 percent am gonna buy it. I thank you guys a lot for all your help.

If you plan on getting a new off contract HTC DNA its $599.99 USD (amazon wireless, usually the cheapest) Now if you can get google to ship you an HTC ONE G.E. its the same price for a slightly newer device which IMO is nicer than the DNA and is a GSM phone so it should work on all if not most GSM carriers (if thats what they are called)

Thanks but unfortunately i'm not living in the states so i can't buy a device from google play store and HTC ONE(even the used ones) is really really expensive in my country. I'm going to stick with my DNA
