Hi I am running Helly Bean 4.1.2 on a Samsung Galaxy SII.
Everything works great, except that I cannot record any videos at all on the back camera. I've tried switching the mode to 480p and it records a blurry image only.
It does not even record on 720p and 1080p.
However, if I switch it to the front facing camera I will be able to record. Can anyone help me with this? Thank you.

Hi thank you for your reply. I'm afraid that it still doesn't work.
I had the same problem when I flashed the new camera app from android 4.2. Then I just installed camera jb+ from the play store and that seem to work fine.

Hi guys. Flashing a new camera is great but just so you know there is a way to make the old one work. The reason you get this issue is the remainer of some of your old kernels. One easy way to fix that is to reinstall rom clean and during the installation to perform system format from mounts and storage in recovery. Works like charm. Also clears out abunch of other old init.d related issues.
Good luck
Next time you guys install rom with full wipe do format system and you'll see the 4.1.2 camera records video in all formats

If you can live without camera recording and YouTube, CM9 is the best for your daily ICS ROM.
Hi, Could anyone advise me on the set of alternative application for recording videos? Until now I used the stock LG Camera, which had a lot of settings and I was very satisfied with her. However, it has little support and does not work on CM9. It is mainly about me adjusting resolution, bitrate and focus (auto, manual, fixed, etc.).
This application is mainly used for filming know since I have the unfortunate mobile module from Fujitsu Siemens and do the problem in recording HD or Full HD video over stock applications about every 3 seconds when focusing hangs video.
Thank you very much for you help!
why not download third party apps from the market buddy?
cheers

Hi,
Ok, strange title, I admit, bit it describes exactly what problems I am encountering.
My camera app is working fine, but I cannot use camera related apps. I didn't try a lot of apps but the main 2 I want to use (or 1 of both) are Dailyroads Voyager and Autoguard. I want to use my camera as a dashcam. Unfortunately, recording video in these apps won't work. I've tried different options in terms of quality, codecs, resolution, framerates, bitrates,... nothing works. I've also had lengthy mails with the Dailyroads developer, sending him logs. All to no avail.
The standard camera app works flawlessly. I can make vids and pictures no problem at all, 8MP stills and 1080p video. When I flash the photosphere app, it works as expected. Spheres and stills work, for video the sound works but picture is distorted. Which is, as I said, as expected. I've read numerous accounts of the video recording not working.
The strange thing is this only happens on certain ROMs. I've tried Resurrection Remix, and that worked. I then switched to JellyBam (couple of months) where it didn't work. Now in the last couple of days, I tried TurkbeyRom, and hollt [email protected], it worked! However, TurkbeyRom hurts my eyes. Menus are just too 'busy' (can't think of the proper word). So then I switched to SuperNexus since 2 days. Excellent ROM. It improved my battery life with about 1/3rd. But unfortunately, both Dailyroads and Autoguard don't work.
Is there anyone who can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
Nobody?
Just to add clarification: The apps work, I can go through settings etc, but from the moment I hit the record button, the image freezes and recording fails.
I'm still having this issue. Anyone?

Well i guess it's rom related, because i am using CM 10.1 and a few games aren't working (Dungeons Hunter 4 and other games), but they work on stock rom and some other roms.

I'm afraid it is rom related, but maybe someone knows a fix? It's a bit strange I think that some roms have this problem and others don't. Even stranger is that I can't seem to find anyone else with problems relating to apps using the camra.
basically I got a second hand samsung galaxy s2 recently.
Everytime I load it up it says camera fail.
I can't use instagram or snapchat.
When I make a video or a non video call on skype it cuts out straight away.
However I can record and send videos on skype (so assumably the front camera is ok?)
is there anyway to set the instagram/snapchat cameras to front camera so that I can use them the same way that the skype video works.
I am running cyanogen mod 10.2
issue was present before rooting.

then you better take it to the samsung care.. may be camera module have problems...
otherwise check again after CHANGING ROM...
I don't know if anyone faced this problem.
But on my Galaxy S3 i9300, the camera works super fine except on snapchat, only when recording. When I record, it only records to the quarter of the length, which means only 2 seconds.
I have tried Omega ROM which is based on stock 4.3 JB and it worked well. All the kitkat ROMs are based either AOSP or AOKP and I only had the problem with those, the stock touchwiz (4.3 JB) worked fine.
I am downloading the AOSB rom but it's based on CM11 which is based on AOSP I guess? But, I hope it fixes the problem..
If anyone knows any KitKat stock ROMs for Galaxy s3, please list them and I hope they're great.
Thanks in advance :]

Had a dream about this... Try going to camera app and go to video setting, in the recording setting change the video to a lower one. Then go to Snapchat and see if that works. Mine was at 1080p and when I changed it to 720p it started working amazing. Try setting it lower if that doesn't work for you. Mine was only recording for 1 second and would stop, after this I can record the full length allowed now. Let us know if this works for you!!
