The number of tablet apps designed for the iPad is much greater than those designed for the Nexus 10. However, in some cases the Nexus 10 doesn't need an app to do the job better than the iPad.
For example, trading on the CMCMarkets Web site needs Flash which is available on Windows or Android browsers but not on the Apple browser. Therefore, a seperate app is required on the iPad to trade on CMCMarkets and the one available is not as good for trading using the Windows or Android browsers.
So, although the iPad has more tablet designed apps than the Nexus 10 some of them are to compensate for not having Flash.
I'm all Android, but iPad's app ecosystem is great, even if they don't have flash.

Actually many apps are created on iOS because it lacks Flash, but that's no excuse for developers not to create them for Android, especially now that Flash is officially off Android. But you can access very much on Nexus 10 through a flash-supported browser, that is a minimum for me before buying a $500 device.
Is there a browser BTW which allows splitscreen, or one that has a large screen widget to use on desktop?

The problem with the iPad, for me (and i owned one briefly before i sold it,Wifi iPad2 16GB) is that the apps cost more than the Android equivalents sometimes and sometimes an app is free on Android but you need to pay for it on IOS.
The iPad apps are great when they are tablet optimised, there are more of them, but if you get an app that's not optimized unlike Android where it fills the screen, the app stays phone sized on the iPad, which is just weird.
Then when you add in a crap keyboard, no widgets (this was a biggie for me) and a restrictive ecosystem it ended up being sold.
Which was great as it helped with the cost of my just ordered Nexus 10.
Each to their own.

One of the great benifits of Android is that you can change it to suit yourself. For example, I love the Hackers keyboard with the row of numbers on view like the Galaxy Note and the easy access to the other characters using the shift key.

Yeah, but i also think its one of its weaknesses for the average joe, the iPad is simple, Android can be confusing due to the number of options.
I hoping what I saw from Skype 3.0 yesterday, could be the start of developers taking android tablets more seriously...
I have read that there is also the added benefit that app devs for android don't have to re-optimize their apps for tablets (resolution etc. like many devs had to do with the release of the retina iPad AND the original release of the ipad with supporting the larger screen size) apparently all the apps are able to scale up resolution without having to re-optimize...at least I thought I read that somewhere!

Optimization =/= Upscaling
Upscaling is not exactly but somewhat like stretching everything to fit the screen. There are algorithms to make it look better but that's the basic idea.
Optimization is making images and an interface directly for a tablet. This won't need any stretching and such and will always look better.
The apps for Android tablets are bad.....they just are. If you deny that, then you're not interested in a serious conversation on the topic. You're just biased towards Android to the point where you will make any excuse possible to make it sound better than it is.
I love Android as and OS, but Android tablets are just not worth it at this point. Apps like:
- ESPN Scorecenter
- Ebay
- Pandora
- Chase Mobile
- Amazon Mobile (doesn't even exist for Android tablets yet)
- Facebook
SUCK on Android tablets. And these are all FREE

I'd take quality (Android) over quantity (iOS). iOS has a ton of useless crapplets. Can't do without Groove IP, Lecture Notes, Droid48, Google Maps/Navigation/Streetview/Gmail/Docs/Translate/YouTube, OnLive and many more.

That makes absolutely no sense. iOS and Android both have very high quality apps and both have some pretty useless apps as well. For every app you listed (probably with the exception of maps, LOL), there's a high quality iOS equivalent app for it.
Anybody with half a brain could find an app to suit their needs on both systems.

This is exactly why we won't see that many tablet apps. People get so worked up when an app isn't holo themed but no one cares about having tablet apps. Android users just don't care and when users don't care, developers don't care. When folks start getting as sensitive to the lack of tablet optimization in an app as they do with an app that's not holo themed, that's when we'll start seeing more tablet apps.
I care and I make it a point to contact developers to ask them about a tablet version of their app. Be the change you want to see. Start caring and devs will follow.
-email developers and ask them for a tablet app
-let your voices be heard! Leave a comment and don't be afraid to dock them a couple stars for the lack of tablet optimization.
-don't be cheap!! Reward developers who taken the time to optimize their apps. I think the second posters in this thread said apps were too expensive or something. Seriously. Apps cost less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks.
This mentality that stretched out apps are just as good is absurd. People love to use the argument that stretching an app is better than what the iPad is doing. While that may be true in some cases, iPad users rarely have to worry about such things. Any app that you'd likely use on iPad will probably have an optimized version for it.
I know this may not be the most serious thing in the world but honestly, complaining about it in forums isn't going to do anything. Be proactive. Let developers know what we need and if there are enough people who want it, it will surely get done.

I don't think anyone will deny that Apple has more tablet apps. I will disagree that android apps are bad. I don't think your assessment is fair.
I've never had problems with a few of those apps that you listed. The others I haven't used.
Saying android tablets aren't worth it because a few apps on Android aren't as good is only true to you. I don't use my tablets only for those apps, and when I need those apps, they are there they get the job done just the same.

For anyone with half a brain I do highly recommend iOS devices with its limitations and restrictiveness. Even Apple's cofounder Steve Wozniak commented that it's good for mentally challenged people:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2012/01/14/even-woz-thinks-the-android-bests-the-iphone.html
"...people who are just scared of computers altogether and don’t want to use them. The iPhone is the least frightening thing. For that kind of person who is scared of complexity..."
The thing is if google wants devs to develop more tablet optimized apps they should start by polishing their own.
Just look at the horrible compressed music art in the play music app, i ****ing hate how it downsamples whatever your album art is, now look at the album art on the iPad music player, the full res art looks great. I have ordered my 32gb Nexus 10 but this seriously ticks me off as i own an iPad 3 and a TP. Don't get me started wih the clock app.
Google's own Google+ app works better on the iPad3 than the Nexus 10
ridiculous...
Could not agree more I have a note 2 for phone and ipad 3 for tablet. I also have a nexus 7 and android tablet suck in the app department big time it's not even funny. Ipad has it beat by a long shot and this is why ipad is so popular. Plus all developers concentrate on iOS and ipad before they even consider android. It's a shame I wish they were at least equal but don't matter what specs android tablet have if they don't have the apps majority of your normal users will not buy it period.

Hey Fellas,
I'm currently an iPad 2 user. I have a Galaxy S phone (which I love) and won't give it up for an iPhone. I was considering buying a Tab... but I didn't have much of a choice when the iPad 2 came out.
Today I ran into a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (it was AMAZING) and I'm thinking about returning my iPad 2.
Would anyone recommend this?
I love the Android OS. I chose the iOS because of the amount of useful school/work apps it has. [IT field].
Another question is... does anyone here own both [or tried both the iPad 2 AND the G Tab]? I have to say that the iPad 2 keyboard was much smoother than the Galaxy Tab.
I tried it quick.. I didn't have much time to play with it. I thought the keyboard wasn't as fast.
How about school/IT apps?
Thanks in advance!
My mom have the iPad 2 and I love Honeycomb but when compared to iOS its missing a whole lot, especially on apps.
Honeycomb is a new OS for tablets and I see it growing in the future and apps are slowly being ported and optimized for Honeycomb tablets. iOS has been in the market for a while and honeycomb has got some catching up to do.
Buy a tablet for what it is now instead of expecting something out of it and just getting frustrated waiting for an app. I bout a zune HD thinking it will go toe to toe with the iPod touch but was just disappointed and ended up selling it and buying the iPod touch.

Other than the infamous lag when typing in forums, keyboard speed is fine in every application I've used so far. For some the forum thing is a big deal, and I've worked around it for now by using a remote desktop app if I really feel the need to post an essay using the tab, but obviously that isn't ideal.
As for the keyboard itself, there are plenty to choose from. Swiftkey, Thumb Keyboard and Swype are all excellent alternatives if you don't like the stock HC keyboard or the Samsung one.
The tab comes with Quick Office pre-installed and that will do the job if you want to take notes and read documents. There are about a half dozen office suites and each have their pro's and con's, if you want to learn more about them there is a good comparison thread over at the Asus Transformer forums. They all have a ways to go though before they're suitable for real work with documents however.
For IT, I imagine apps like LogMeIn, Wyse Pocket Cloud, Overlook Fing, andSMB, SharesFinder, ASProxy, Connect Bot, etc would be useful.
to give you an honest answer stick with the Ipad. Everyone on here will try to give you a reach around about why the TAB is so great. But quite frankly in its current state its not. I'm typing this on my tab right now and am getting pissed that my words are showing up well after I press the keys. There are NO USEFULL ANDROID TABLET APPS available at this time. You want proof. Go to the marketplace and see if you van even tell the difference between what is a table app and what isn't. Some tablet apps even have disclaimers stating they aren't even compatible with the GT yet. I purchased my tab because I'm believing in the Modding community will one day provide me with the goodies I crave for use on what is a very (hardware) capable device. But if you want somethingthat just works right now... get an IPAD.
I am still so much on the fence about the GT 10.1 I have a hard time even trying to formulate a reply to this. As I think I go back and forth every 5 minutes.
GT 10.1
+ Android is open, open file system, third party app stores/markets.
+ Wide screen display, higher resolution, and stereo speakers great for videos.
+ Highly customizable with widgets.
+ XDA community usually does great job with custom ROMs.
+ Google apps and Amazon CloudDrive and App Store are great.
- Android 3 is a rush job, screen response not great (not bad either), keyboard lag.
- App crashes and random reboots rare, but happen more than they should.
- Tablet app select still small, and Android app versions sometimes inferior to iOS.
- Uncertainty when Samsung might push the Android 4.0 update, they've been ver slow in the past.
- No Netflix
iPad 2 (I own an iPad 1, so this is mostly about iOS)
+ Over a year head start in tablets, lots of quality apps.
+ iOS versions of some apps are better, Tweetdeck, Tune In Radio, Taptu, etc.
+ Netflix, Hulu Plus (don't care for Hulu, but really miss Netflix on my GT 10.1)
+ iOS very responsive and smooth.
+ Square screen ratio nice for browsing, ebooks.
+ Apple makes software and hardware, so dependable updates.
- No file system access, must use iTunes (usually) to transfer files.
- Google, YouTube apps sucks on iOS.
- No third party application markets (no good Jailbreak for iPad 2, so no Cydia).
- Lower res display, 512MB of RAM.

Hello!
My friend owns the iPad/iPad 2 and I use them regularly when I'm at his house as he has multiple. I own a Galaxy Tab 7" and 10.1 myself. Here's my personal opinion:
The iPad had a significant build quality difference between it and the 7" Tab. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 corrects this, but it's still very difficult to beat a uniform metal structure versus a plastic one. This will boil down to whether you prefer a higher build quality, or a lighter device. The 10.1 is way lighter, the iPad 2's build quality is better.
As far as applications go... iOS tablet-centric apps blows Android out of the water. There is no denying this. You can still get any application you need on both platforms, but the higher resolution ones on the iPad are way more numerous. Here's to hoping this changes soon for Honeycomb.
As far as operating systems go... Honeycomb is ages beyond iOS in terms of a more desktop-like feel on a Tablet and less of a phone-like feel. iOS 5 does little to correct this. You will find the OS itself much more pleasant on a Honeycomb tablet.
Hardware: The processor in the iPad 2 is fast. The processor in the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is fast. I don't see any speed differences between the two, except for the browser. The lead Google put in Android 2.2 shows heavily with the UI optimized for Tablets. Also, the Tegra 2 processor is the first processor I can say having Flash is a definitive advantage. I can stream HD videos from Flash sources on the web (ABC, Crunchyroll, etc) with very little to no stuttering. Props to NVidia here. I could probably do a video for you, if you were interested.
The back camera on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is far superior, though I don't think you'll be using it very often when cameras on phones are smaller and easier to use. Just my opinion.
Last but not least: I really dislike the iPad (iOS 4) and Google's default keyboard on Tablets. They are extremely hard to use while handling the device. I use Swiftkey Tablet X on my 7" and 10.1" Tab and LOVE it. If you keep your iPad 2 I really suggest you get iOS 5 on it to take advantage of the split keyboard effect. It makes typing far easier. If you do go back and get a Google-based Tab, drop their crappy keyboard and get Swiftkey X. It's in beta - I can send you the apk if you do end up going that route. Just PM me.
[Edit] Quick edit after reading Ravynmagi's post - not having Netflix is a HUGE HUGE bummer. There's no word on it coming to Honeycomb either, so don't hold your breath[/Edit]
I've had both. the iTampon 2 is riddled with screen problems. I wouldn't pay 500 bucks for it. It does have more apps... but let's be honest..... how many apps do you really need?

Check the support forums at the Apple site. Sure hasn't.
I don't like Ipads. It feels like you are stuck into the app drawer forever.
Sure, there are tons of apps for tablets but everything else is below 10.1 standards.
It starts with the homescreen, over to multitasking abilities and ends in hardware.
And a 4:3 screen is a no go. Every media is made for 16:9 or 16:10, have fun watching movies on that. Ipad2 feels like an ancient TV.
And web without flash? Seriously? That also means no browser games which all are high resolution and made for PC !
Ipads are just for the fancy glamour aspect. The apps look better, for example ebook readers are nicer animated. But I am a purist, I don't want animations around my text, I want a nice and huge display. Why buy 10.1 if half of your screen is used up by showing virutal pages?
The fact that Honeycomb doesn't have many good apps and Tegra 2 seems pretty poor overall (poor video/codec playing, maybe be an OS issue though) I would get an iPad. It will just be a smoother/better experience.
When people say that the IPad has more apps, I kind of laugh at this.....
Its the quality of the apps, not the number of them. If Android has the apps that I want and are of good quality, than I am happy.
I was debating between these 2 devices and in the end I chose the IPAD2. I really wanted to go with Android, but right now its just not ready for "primetime" just yet. I may revisit this when ICS comes out and the Android Tablets and Apps have become more mature. Much like when Android came out, you are goign to ahve to do a lot fo work to get it to do what you want to do. I think the GTAB has great potential, its the OS that holds it back. App conversion\creation has been very slow so far, which is another drawback.
As others have said though, take account of what you want to do with the tablet and what apps you will use. Then go through both tablets and see what will suit your needs. You cant go wrong with either as both have their negative and positive attributes. Whichever is going to fit your needs the best is the one to get, everyone has different needs and wants, so everyone will have a differing opinion.
I can say though that I have not been disappointed with my decision. I still come here and lurk to see what the current state of the GTAB is though as it still sparks my interest and I want it to succeed.

My experience is quality has usually been lower on the Android side. Either the Android version has fewer features or is less stable or not even compatible with your device. Fragmentation is a real ***** on Android right now and quality is suffering because of it.
I really don't see an argument for Android having an advantage on the app side. That's going to be the iPad's strong point for quite some time.
But I do agree, plenty of people can find good quality apps that suit their needs and be completely happy.
honeycomb really suck balls! i have to have 3 different browsers installed to do what a normal browser does
firefox to download stuff (if u disagree, try using some other browser to download from filesonic/hotfiles)
skyfire to view flash sites
and the ever temperamental stock browser
why am i able to do the above with any browser froyo/gingerbread but not honeycomb?
typing in username/password is a nightmare, tap a key --> wait for the character to appear --> type the next key.. honestly if u want to try out android, get yourself an android phone, avoid honeycomb tablets for the time being

ipad has a lot of useful and quality apps compared to the less than a hundred apps that honeycomb offer.
I'm not talking about games because the tablet optimized games that honeycomb/tegra have are awesome but when it comes to apps for specific tasks they have very limited selection and not a lot of them are comparable to the ipad app counterpart.
I'm talking about finance apps like iReconcile for iPad and portfolio apps for photographers.
I have not seen one portfolio app for honeycomb and ipad have a color calibration app made by datacolor called SpyderGallery but non existent on the honeycomb.
I'm just saying that honeycomb might be good for someone that want to do basic stuff on their tablet but if you want a task specific app, the ipad has them and honeycomb desn't have them but doesn't mean they're not going to have them in the future.
I think that we're going to see a lot of apps ported to honeycomb by the end of the year.

I've played with the ipad & currently own a GT 10.1. For me (& I think Rayvnmagi summed it all up nicely), the two greatest advantages of Honeycomb are media (ability to play Flash & higher resolution video) and the mod-ability (I just bought an Epic 4G -- $30 on Amazon! -- and I haven't stopped playing with ROMs since; something I could never do with my iphone 3GS).
Yes, the apps are decidedly not there. Yes, the keyboard lag is awful when typing in forums, etc. I'm willing to put up with that for now because I know two things: 1) the fellas here at xda are awesome & will most likely come out with a fix in the near future & 2) Google handed out GT 10.1 developer editions to everyone at its developer conference. That can only be a good thing in terms of app development for the GT 10.1.
All that being said, I actually recommended my dad (NOT a techie) get an ipad 2. He's not as tech-savvy, and he's of the mindset that things should just work. The ipad has established itself as a very stable platform that works (usually) without a hitch & I have a feeling if he'd gotten a GT 10.1, he would have had several headaches & never used it.
So, I feel like in the end, it really depends on your usage preference--do you want an established tech with a little bit lower specs or do you want the newer tech with more bugs but better specs?
My problem with the tab right now has nothing to do with apps etc etc. That stuff will eventually come, just a little time.
My problem is with lag, video playback issues, and the fact that samsung does not like to update their products to push you to buy new ones. Even if google fixes all the issues currently with the tablets, there is no guarantee samsung will give us that update.
Samsung's flagship phone (galaxy s) has yet to get the ota froyo update. If you send your phone back in for a warranty repair, yes you will receive a refurbed one with froyo or you can get it through kies if you are aware of it's existence. Yet the new $70 samsung exhibit is just a replay of the vibrant but with gingerbread!
I don't know about the other manufacturers, but I don't expect the tab to improve much more than it has now. There will most likely be a new tablet from samsung in the fall to winter season sporting icecream sandwich...if that happens, forget updates!

The problem with the iPad is that once you buy into the Apple infrastructure if you buy a decent quality of apps you're locked into them forever unless you want to start over again. Personally I love the flexibility of Android and will never go back to having an iPhone (which I used to have).
When Exchange didn't work with my corporate server with my iPhone I was out of luck. With my Droid X I had the same problem but was able to download Touchdown which works fine. To me, that flexibility makes it more worthwhile to stay with Android and lose out on the over abundance of "fart apps" in the Apple app store.

Android vs. iOS is like religion and politics - you just don't go there. I'd never buy an Apple product because I can't stand their Orwellian control over both the h/w and s/w. But, for people who like things simple and thought out for them, iOS is a safe bet. Also, look at the price of a used TF1 vs. an iPad1. Apple sells more iPads in a week than Asus is projecting for all of 2012. Whether you like Apple or not they've built up quite a little empire of loyal fans. I just bought my niece a 32GB iPad2 because Garage Band doesn't exist for Windows or Android. So there are examples of things you can do on iOS that you can't on other platforms.
Gaming: ipad 2
Office stuff: push
Personalization: Android
Quik learning curve: ios

All of this might/ should change with tegra 3 and ICS coming out, but we dont know what ipad3 will bring either.
What i chose in those "catagories" might make you think i would be a Apple fanboy, but i put personalizatio/customization as 88% of my personal scoring. I own an ipad and ipad 2 and theyre great for my wife and 3yo. But i love my a500 and my asus when it gets here.

Android on a tablet is damn near all anyone needs for their daily computer needs. I FULLY believe android is the future of computing. Hands down blowing the doors off of ios. Its laughable really....

OS Functionality: Android
iOS is essentially a glorified app launcher. Which fine as far as it goes, because iOS has lots of good apps. But I like being able to use my tablet without needing to launch apps, and there's quite a bit I can do with my Transformer right from the home screen (see recent emails, Tweets, Facebook updates, calendar events, tasks, etc., create Evernote notes, etc.).

By that standard, we should have never outgrown Megablocks or Tonka trucks. LOL

Not so sure about the gaming verdict there. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the iPad supports game controllers. Also it seems that I'm able to get a lot of the iTunes paid apps free in the Android Market.

Funny how every thread here turns into an android vs ios discussion I think that just shows that both systems are very good and really competing. Best situation for us the users. They race each other with new features and lower prices and we profit!
Anyways it all comes down to personal preference. For me the Prime beats the iPad in all ways. But there are so many reasons why people get tablets and everyone is looking for something slightly different...
-There is the "i buy every apple product" guy
-There is the "i have all other products from apple so i buy my tablet from them as well" guy
-There's the "everything must be shiny and sparkling" guy (that obviously buys apple products)
-There's the "i would never buy an apple product" guy
-There's the "omg i love the keyboard dock idea on the prime" guy (me)
-There's the "i wont buy a tablet without full sized USB port somewhere" guy (me)
-There's the "i want to use my tablet for more than media consumption" guy (me)
-There's the "i dont want to jailbreak my device to be able to use it properly" guy (me)
and so on and on... I think in the end Apple will have about the same spot they have in the PC market now. Why? They've put those great ideas out there with the iphone and the ipad and no one else had any comparable products at the time. This situation is called "Monopoly". You get huge sales by that. Imagine there would be only one car manufactor...
But while other companies like ASUS improve this idea by adding new stuff, Apple somehow keeps to the original idea. So many gamers are screaming for a hardware control method. Apple says you have touchscreen its awesome. Having a keyboard dock and full sized ports is awesome but Apple says you have touchscreen and cloud thing - thats better. Etc.
i find that old people, women, and kids are more suited for ios. While its a "glorified shortcut screen" its all they really need. Oh yea, and non nerdy guys too.

I guess anyone who does not like/ want to spend time on customizing the OS would love the iOS experience. Similar to what happens with Mac vs. PC. You want to customize and be able to change everything that you could possibly think of but with the possibility of messing up your system, get a PC/Android. You want an out of box experience which is pretty much smooth while only safely letting you stay within the virtual walls the engineers developed, get an Apple.
Android tablets slowly chopping away iPad marketshare
Not sure if this is a correct place to post it, but I saw this article this morning
http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/26/strategy-analytics-apple-still-owns-tablet-market-but-android/
According to numbers, Android is slowly eroding Apple's hold on tablet market. And I believe numbers do not show Transformer Prime yet. Wonder how long until we see the same thing here that happened with phone market, when Android overtook iPhone.

iPhone hit back strongly last quarter though, impressive for one company to out-perform every other company out there put together. But yeah it is inevitable, Android will chip more of that market share away in upcoming years as long as companies produce great phones and tablets.
I cannot resist pointing out that quality control plays a huge role in it though. If Android phones and tablets become known for quality hardware and build wise as much as Android itself has become a very solid and stable operating system, this will happen quickly. But if the 'best Android tablet' launch, like that of TF201, is continuously full of problems in the future, then it's basically Android shooting itself in the foot.

Excellent points. I totally agree.
I've been trying to figure out how many apps there are for Android tablets and it has been really hard to find out, which in itself hints that it ain't good. But the best estimates I could find online pin it at around 1000-2000 apps. Didn't iPad 1 release with more than that? What is wrong with Android? I sincerely believe that this OS is better with its Widgets and customizations and all. But does it not bother you that after a whole year we have so few apps? I may as well go for an iPad at this rate. I mean i have all the apps i need now, but still some apps are meant for the phone, like Facebook.... still I feel it is worth investing in a device that actually has proper support... you are paying $500, shouldn't you expect more then just thousands of apps? And don't argue that the new iPad with its hi res display will have few apps. That is only temporary... it too will soon surpass the android tablet app tally...
Took me 5 seconds to google that-
http://phandroid.com/2011/03/14/android-app-count-rapidly-gaining-on-ios-chart/
and its year old, so the number is bigger by now.
Android still has plenty of great apps. ICS is the merging of phone and tablet apps. So there won't be a need for either. Instead it'll be a universal app that would work on wither and if its tablet, then it'll take advantage of it.
I have over 200 apps on my Ipad. I have just as many on my prime and have found majority of my Ipad apps n AAndroid and have them on my prime now. So there's still slot of apps out there. Tablet only apps, yes Android has less but its steadily growing. Phone apps already caught up to apples.
Plus you won't catch many here wanting to switch to IOS over apps. Especially not me. I've already did the Ipad experience for 2 years n glad I came to android. I'm satisfied with what's available. It isn't like you can install all of them at once. Android has great apps n always could use more. But Android users generally know the deal when it comes to the apps. Apple needs apps to do things android does out the box by itself. My Ipad has alot of really good apps on it but I have them all ln my prime also. Majority being better on Android. So expect your poll to show love for Android and its ecosystem. Most try to stay away from limited features n capabilities of Ipad. Depends on what floats your boat the best.
That is Android Market on the whole. I've been talking about tablet optimized apps.

All in all, it would be comforting to see a good recent estimate regarding android "tablet" Apps. As of now, I have apps to watch movies, socialize, a great browser, to read PDFs and eBooks and to take notes. I still feel that quality is lacking and I hope what you said about ICS unifying things will help devs dev more. But it bugs me that say Facebook has no tablet app, etc. Thankfully I don't game a lot though!
READ up on Ice Cream Sandwich Android version and see what its supposed to mean. Soon there will be no more need for tablet optimized apps as all will be optimized for whatever device its being used on.
If you want to get an Ipad that's cool, but I hope you didn't think most here would vote in favor of getting one. You will see soon most are happy with Android. Yes it could always get better but still love it regardless. I'd never switch back to Ipad. Seen so much more with Android now. Going back to IOS would be moving backwards in features and capabilities of a tablet.

I always see people complain about Facebook on android. Why? I have it and works great for me. I have like 3-4 different Facebook apps on my Ipad. Plus here is a reality check. The official Facebook app on Ipad isn't even the best one. It took them so long to bring it out that the 3rd party ones are the best now. The official app sux on Ipad and is buggy still. I have it and other ones on Ipad. You just have to search more. I have tons of great tablet apps on prime.
Here's a tip. If you want to look for android tablet app only marketplace, look for an app called Tablified. Its an marketplace that showcases all tablet only or optimized apps for Android. Its really good and apps must pass strict guidelines to be considered to be viewed in that app. Its a free app. A MEMBER here actually created it. It has a great look to it also.

Unfortunately, until we see many more ICS devices, developers won't focus on it and thus we'll not see apps that make good use of tablets because of it. It's true that right now the number of really good tablet apps is low, and it's frustrating. I'd think that 5-10 million Honeycomb or ICS tablets in the wild would be enough to generate more developer interest.
I honestly think developers are gun shy about spending the time on tablet apps because the press on the Android tablet market has been so universally horrible (and the hype on the iPad so universally and nauseatingly high). Those developers who've made tablet-optimized apps have done a great job with it, but really the iPad has a HUGE, HUGE advantage here. Even I find myself sometimes wanting to switch because of all the excellent iPad apps, and I can't stand Apple.
You can find a good tablet app for a most typical uses, and in many cases the phone apps work fine (because they scale better in many cases than iPhone apps scale to the iPad), but it remains a limitation. It's also another area where Google has done a bad job, either of making it easy to make tablet-optimized apps (I don't know either way) or of providing incentives for developers to make them.
I really don't get the fascination and need for all these "apps". I hate that word too, sounds so gay.
Give me a good browser, some good media players and you're pretty much good to go.
There is no need for a Facebook program at all. No need for XDA program, a Twitter program. You don't use them on your Windows desktop do you? The browser is all you need for all that.
I just don't get it. I don't even have one homescreen filled on my tablet.

Android doesn't longer have seperate Apps. Since ICS and fragments well written Apps will deliver an optimized layout for phones, tablets as well as Google TV. One App for all, that was the approach of Android and that's why the Google Play / Market doesn't have an extra Tablet section (beside the editors choice for tablets).
In the last years there was really a lack of good apps for tablets, but most of the new Apps make use of this new fragments and offer a great tablet ui.
New 8track app, tweetcaster, new official TED app, Astrid since their last update - just to mention a few.
In my opinion this will be the first serious year for Android Tablets and Apps which was also the reason for me to finally buy the Prime.

One think I've always wondered is: do fragments work on Android versions previous to ICS? Because if they do, then I wonder why more developers aren't using them. If they only work with ICS, then it makes sense--ICS is still only about 1% of the total Android population, and only on the Prime and Xoom in tablets.
And seriously, it should be MUCH easier to find tablet-optimized apps. While there are a handful of decent tablet-optimized apps, they're relatively hard to find and that fact alone contributes to the perception (real or imagined) that this is a real weakness of Android tablets.

And yes, many popular apps do suck on a tablet and will continue to until ICS reaches critical mass.

What's the problem?
I guess the question is what do you want to do with your Prime that would be fulfilled by an app? Or somewhat sarcastically; what could you do app-wise with an iPad that you want to do with your Prime? I suggest asking if your searching has yielded nothing suitable.
While it's fun to have lots of apps available, what if they are all crap?
Bye.

Developer here...
Even with older OS versions the only difference between a phone and tablet app is the layout. Android already has some pretty killer tools for handling that. ICS makes it easier with some new tools (fragments), but by no means is it necessary. Few devs will target ICS for awhile. There are just too many older devices.
So... the biggest inhibitor is time. It takes a great deal of work to develop an app that makes both screen sizes happy. It also takes some practice. Since Android is behind compared to iOS, and the Android tablet market is smaller, we just have to wait. People have to learn how to take advantage of all this extra space.
By the way, its not really any easier to develop an iOS tablet app. In fact, even using the older versions of Android, its easier to deal with different layouts than on iOS.
I think as long as theres fragmentation most app devs are not gonna put as much effort with android. Why when there are so many ipad users and they only have to develop for 1 single platform and can concentrate on making it better rather than concentrating on making it more compatible across every different android devices. ICS was supposed to be the answer but not all ICS compatible app will work on all ICS devices. Then google is supposedly now gonna come out with jelly bean? Whats gonna happen then? So if i was a dev right now I wouldnt want to develop even for ICS not knowing what road block jelly bean will bring when apple is more guaranteed. The return profit is just not as good on android tablets right now. Until we match apples ecosystem I dont think we will ever have the benifits that ipad users have.

Do you remember when blueray players first came out, you could only get a handfull of movies for it? and now you can get damn near everything in blueray.
Remember a year or so ago when there was like, maybe 5 tablets total on the market? and now you cant turn the corner without finding yet another manufacturer of them?
Tablets are the fastest growing consumer trend in north america giving Apple a good run for their money. Considering this boom in the last year or so, developers are scrambling to try to support everything and find standards for how graphics will be displayed, etc. (which is why theres so many different versions of the same gameloft games)
Give it a few more months if you cant find what your looking for, it will be here then.
Also considering that ICS is still relatively new and developers need to make sure their apps work well on it before they release it, test, etc. its not surprising that there is limited support for ICS. If you want something thats tried, tested, and true then get the TF101. If you want to live on the edge like with the 201 then you have to expect some bugs along the way.
Give it time, it will come. Guaranteed.
Why is it more apps are being developed for iOS and not android?? I personally think this sucks considering phones with android are dominating the smartphone market e.g android currently runs on Samsung phones, HTC phones, LG phones, Motorola phones, ZTE phones, Huawei phones as well as tablets such as Acer, Nexus 7, Galaxy Tab, HP Touchpad etc. I just get the feeling android is being left out. IOS runs on the iPhone and iPad and that's it....doesn't make sense to me.

Agreed. Fortunately I have all the apps that I need
Its because if you make a app on iOS it only has to really work on 2 or 3 devices which makes testing and making bug free much easier.
With android there are so many devices it can be hard to debug across all device and screen sizes etc etc.
For 'simpler' apps its not a issue but with bigger more complexed apps it can be a bigger issue and thus far more work for the dev
Apparently over 40% of IOS Apps have never even been downloaded once so I think the word Shovelware certainly applies.
Its still the largest single device out there, one phone and one tablet. I imagine it makes dev work easier, sort of like building a complex website that only has to work in one browser. Plus the way the media talks about the iPhone all the time, many probably think it has a huge majority of the market share.

There are some Nexus 7 commercials on these days, and back before Verizon got the iPhone they ran quite a few commercials with the OG Droid and Droid X. The iPhone is in nearly every new movie when a cell phone is shown. Its ironic because for years Apple embraced being different than the mainstream majority of whatever product they were trying to sell. Now the iPad/iPhone is about as mainstream as you can get since its everywhere.
What about the android shop in California....that must be the only store dedicated to an OS lol

Once Google opens a nexus store in every big city in the world and has more commercials, sues the heck out of everybody and mocks Apple then they will be more popular. Oh yea there are ups and down on both platforms. Apple charges 99 bucks a year to develop apps and publish them while android only charges 25 bucks. But like said above there are too many androids from 3.5 inch 800 megahertz processors to giant 4.8 inch phones with a quad core cpu. The galaxy note is 5.3" GEEZUS

Iphones and iPads are just overpriced ****e imo! They all look and feel the same, layout has been the same since day 1, their not very attractive, specs are a joke (4s is EXACTLY the same as the 4 just added a dual core 800mhz CPU and a joke piece of software called siri, which doesn't work half the time) and they have a cheek to charge £599 for a beefed up version of the iPhone 4!!! I just picked up a Galaxy S3 and it cost roughly the same as a new iphone. Apple appeals to a broad consumer base as any idiot can figure it out, and most people only use their phones to talk, text, facebook, angry birds, etc anyway. They're usually stable, and just work. Android, however, claims the cake because it doesn't lock you into any single hardware manufacturer, and has the open-source backing. It just so happens that since the tv is lovestruck by apple products, most people clamor to apple cause they saw it on tv, and since apple has the outspoken user base it does (aka fanboys), it popularly perceived that ios is the most popular platform. And with that, most entrepreneurs are going to go with the platform they feel their products will get the most exposure on, which leads to higher revenue. Econ 101

I think you pretty much nailed it. Android being based on linux, and an 'open' system, alot of linux users/hackers use it, and there for do not want to pay for software, as with their computer operating systems. Now dont get me wrong, some people do pay for software, but if you can find a free alternative, or even better just create your own, why would you pay for it ?
With Apple products, basicly morons are buying it because they are told to, they think it is cool, all thier dumb ass friends have them, and so any software that is needed for it, they will pay through the nose for, just like their devices they have to upgrade before they have finished paying off the last one.
Forgive my extreme dis-like for Apple products. I just really do not like them.
It was long before the iPhone that I stayed away from Apple products. Their computers were and still are way overpriced when compared to the same specs on a Windows PC. Or you can build your own and save even more money. iPods are overpriced and you are forced to use iTunes. I've used Creative and Sandisk players that don't require any software as they were USB mass storage devices. I can write a simple batch file to sync two directories, I don't need a big program like iTunes. I remember one of my friends showing off their cool new iPod shuffle years ago, the model without a screen. Meanwhile I had a Sandisk player (forget the model) that had a screen and more storage space plus it costs less. I also had (still have) my Dell Axim x50 which still is a better MP3/video player than any iPod today since it has CF and SD slots and can play nearly every format with TCPMP.
Android was the next move for me after Microsoft discontinued Windows Mobile. Its the only popular mobile OS for power users left. Its a lot more stable than WM ever was, not responding apps will force close where as on WM you would often have to restart the device.
Unless Apple does something innovative with the iPhone, I predict it is on a sinking ship. Its an outdated device/UI after 5 years with little changes. After ICS, anytime I see an iOS device it just looks so outdated. There have been hardware upgrades but today's iPhone doesn't look much different from the 2007 model. The mobile market moves fast and those who don't keep up die off, look at what happened to Windows Mobile which didn't change for years.
One Topmost reason why Apps are more developed for iOS than Android:
The high-rated, most popular and mostly downloaded apps in Android suffers PIRACY ISSUE which is not acceptable to the developers as it incurs the developers a huge loss. Although it also happens with iOS apps, but their piracy rate is not that high as Android.
Also we must be thankful to the developers that in spite of these issues, they still develop good apps for us and make Android a better OS.

Nah dude I feel ya. You get the same (for the most part) applications for less to nothing, and if it doesn't have the exact functionality you're looking for, you can change it yourself. Apple doesn't even give the option to sideload whereas Android allows it even for a stock unrooted user. But where we see these drawbacks, it does make iOS much more stable because it's extremely difficult for iphone users to screw it up. But you have to remember, different clientele. The one thing Apple has going for them is their brilliant (if you wanna call it that) marketing. That's the only reason they've done so well, is because they've managed to make a cult of it and exploit that fact that people are half the time so pathetic they need some product/brand to represent who they are, and Apple has provided that branding for millions of people. I do some home automation/networking projects as a hobby, and I hate my buddy's macbook cause that thing leaves crap all over my servers, even if the shares are on major lockdown. And getting them to play nicely with media, forget about it.

Actually you can use an ipod with rhythm box, an itunes-like media player for Linux . I don't have one, so I can't say anything on its functionality. I had a windows phone on, if I remember correctly, a motorola que or something. WORST PHONE EVER. I got from a friend, but I was rebooting a good 10 times a day cause it would lock up or something wacko. In terms of iOS's gui, all they'd have to do is keep adding gooey nonsense and if the play it off as an upgrade, the apple kids will eat it up for the next 30 years without any need for advancing the base functionality. Honestly, I'm sure karma will catch up with Apple (as it did for Microsoft) and they'll bury themselves in crap. Don't know what, I'm just being hopefull
Really because the iOS users are the dumbest and will buy pretty much any app that is developed.
I joke I joke.
But really the reason is because a lot of developers feel that all android users do is pirate apps so they can't make a profit.

There are so many factors why apple appstore has more apps,
Firstly it has a quality control, so when your apple appstore app is approved, then its a thing to be proud of next, the payment schemes offered my apple is easier than android, and also, you just need to test on 2 or maximum three devices unlike android where you gotta test on so many devices to with so many different API versions and screen sizes.
Next , visibility of new apps is much much more on apple store compared to Play store.
And lastly, the play store's global reach is less!

Bingo. They simplify everything for quality control that they feel provides a better user experience, and to some extent it does. While it is extremely restrictive, it still provides the masses with simplicity, of whom don't know a motherboard from a graphics card half the time. Android is more of a Wild West of sorts, allowing the users to have more control of their environment. Then again, Apple proponents are more likely to pay stupid amounts of money for close to anything so they can be one of the cool kids whereas Android folk either couldn't/didn't want to afford an iphone, or are Linux people who aren't gonna be keen on paying for software in the first place.
Given that that a lot of apps are FCing in the market for god known reasons and developers are not updating or taking full advantage of the display. Is is a sign that nexus 10 doesnt have good sales and its not worth the effort. I personally own one and would hate to see the potential of the device go to waste.
Or is this too early in a products lifetime to comment on all these

The whole idea of the N10 is to seed the market for other 10" 300ppi devices to come from the manufacturers. The same thing happened with the N7 and Gnexus before it. Apps will be fixed/updated in time, most likely at a quicker pace as other highres devices start to be announced/made available.
I doubt they've sold too many so far. If I had to guess, I'd say a few hundred thousand but I doubt any more than that. They will undoubtedly sell a few more in time but I doubt they'll sell millions. Leave that for the Galaxy Tab 3 eh?
I've got 81 apps on my N10 which I use across several devices, and NONE of them force close, or have resolution issues on my N10. So I've got to ask, what apps are you talking about??
No force closes here either. All my apps that I use on my GNex work just as well on my N10. The one "sort of" exception is Facebook. It works fine, but isn't optimized for 10" tablets, so using it in landscape makes it look horrible.
The only app I use that didn't work on my N10 was the grocery iq app (allows you to have a synced grocery list with several devices) but they recently updated it to work on the N10.
No force closes here either. I have also seen lots of apps updating to be tablet friendly. Flip book, Tapatalk HD, and...
I think the dev support is only going to continue to grow. The dev support on this site alone has double I in the last week or two.

FT app , the economist app. ezpdf is a bit slow with the page turn, but is the only one with two page landscape.
These two i primarily used on my friends n7 , but FC on opening articles in the N10.
Apart from that, most work fine. Although Shadowguneadzone shows a little thermal throttle , when played for over 4 hours. but that is okay considering how beautiful it looks and works.
I really love this device ad I hope google currents and the chrome issues are fixed asap. Just wanted to flash the FT app to my i**** friends out here.
BTW Flipboard after the update worked like a charm and i hope they use the new youtube embedding API , so that we can watch videos without leaving the article.
I only have one app that force closes, and even then its only when a certian setting is used. I'd hardly say there's little dev interest.
I will, however, say that in general software development swings towards the biggest groups, which is why historically the iPad has gotten tablet apps before us, has better game support, etc. In our case, while software with tablet support should be optimized because they can automatically use the resources for 300+ DPI phones there's still the matter that we're the only 2560x1600 resolution tablet on the market. If there's something stopping an app from using phone resources, or its tablet only, the only thing that'll fix that is the arival of other tablets at this resolution.
