back up - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

How to make a full backup of the following Sony P?

Plz check the development and other respective sections before u make multiple posts
U could have asked all the questions in a single thread instead of making 4 different ones

You can use ROM manager to do that, but for this you should have working CWM.

To backup apps use my apks ( it backups the setup)

Why would you want to do that, you can just restore the backup.
Dont forget the backup holds lots of personal info on it, so you dont want to share it....
Just curious as to why you would want to do this?
The data portion contains sensitive info right??? Not the system.img isn't it
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I wanna make my own Rom and share it with ppl... I've added toggle panel to notification bar, changed animations in framework-res, changed icons in systemui, did some build.prop tweaks, some out-of-memory manager tweaks, took some apps from the arc s firmware, removed some preinstalled apps and added some apps to system partition itself (like browser replaced with opera, titanium backup included in system partition, applied adblocker...) and many other things.... I hope that qualifies me to call it my *own* ROM????

Oh ok,
You need to use sdk and pdk software to make your own roms, I am sure its much easier that way.
Just google them and download
PS, just themeing a custom rom doesnt make it your own, but developing from the stock rom in any way does, especially if it more than just the UI. Circular battery mod and other UI's are easily achieved in UOT, but changing OOM values and build.prop is different, as long as you know the benefits you are making
I've made changes to stock only. Not on anyone else's custom ROM. Yes did make some oom changing scripts. (umm.. Yep I guess I know what changes and what advantages. Lol) also removed some stock-ware added better alternatives like go sms n dialer in place of stock ones.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I have the android sdk. I'll get the pdk... But what after that?? How to make the zip file of the ROM?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Just pull (with adb or root explorer) everything you changed then make a flashable zip of that. No need to post a whole rom, just call it a mod or theme...
Btw I'm not even a proper firmware-tinkerer.. Far from being a dev or anything. I'm just a humble 12th grade student. Still pretty much in my teens.. Lol
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Ok that's a good idea now... Lemme see if I can pinpoint which files I need to pull and which I can do without.... But about the zip thing.... I never really understood the certificate thingy... That meta.inf and all... What is that about??? Basically how to create a flashable zip??
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Same here, I am not a dev, but I teach 12 grade!!!
As far as I know that can be done with apk manager, the update zips I use are generally borrowed from other zips, as I only mod things others have done for myself, or make them in UOT.
Try getting in touch with a dev called DooMLoRD
He is very good and friendly (Also from your neck of the woods) but he is very busy. He helped me out inmy noob days, and I am sure he will help you if he has the time.
Ya he did seem helpful.... I know him of course... Anyone who aspires to overclock their xperia knows him....lol... But ya he is busy usually.... And he's more of a deep dev...tinkering with kernels....not the one to make custom ROMs and all isn't it???
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
So what I can do is take the zip of someone's rom, keep the certificate in it. Remove all other files, add mine into it and voila I'm done???
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I've made a lot of modifications to my stock rom, and would like to share it.... so is system.img a valid way to share my *own* rom or mod ? (valid as in technically feasible? means ppl can d/l it n flash using recovery n use it?)
my main concerns are... will it boot on someone else's device? (i tried it myself... total wipe + clean stock instal, followed by flashing only my backed up system.img, *didn't flash data.img, only system* it took an eternity to boot first time but it ran)
second concern... system.img doesn't have any personal data right? logs, msgs etc are in data partition i guess??

[Q] ICS update on a rooted phone - what to do?

Hullos all!
Being rather new to rooting (I rooted my old X10 Mini and my Xperia S), I am wondering about what to do and not to do when ICS rolls out in the near future.
Did a search on these forums and on google, but the answers I found left me with even more questions, so I turn to the Gurus here ;o)
Now to my questions: I have a rooted Xperia S with unlocked bootloader - what should I do when the ICS update rolls out? - I have a few ideas about what to do (I've typed those under my questions), I just need verification from the Gurus ;o)
1) Will I need to backup all my data and apps? (I probably should just for safety).
2) Should I accept the update from Sony
(From what I've read, it's a big NO - I should wait until a dev releases a pre-rooted firmware and install that with fastboot).
3) If the update (whatever method I need to use) is successful, will I have to reinstall my apps again? What about my contacts/SMS/other data - will that be deleted?
4) Not really ICS-related: Can I use factory restore on a rooted phone?
(I don't think so, solution is to reinstall the pre-rooted firmware).
1) yes for safety nandroid backup. Back up apps with titanium backup just incase you need to wipe data on flashing new roms.
2) No
3) flash both phones with flashtool there will be ftf ics roms for both your phones. You will not lose apps and data if uncheck the option in flashtool
4) yes you can factory reset while rooted or unlocked
5)

Thanks a bunch!
I used a program named fastboot to flash the ROM .img file.
I guess that using Flashtool is the way to go - didn't know it existed until now ;o)
Just head over to the Android Development Forum.. There's a sticky thread called [TOOL/LT26] [UPDATE 09/04/2012] Flashtool version 0.6.9.1 - Windows / Linux. There you'll find download links and so on..

Cheers People
Download Siyah 3.5.2.
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/07/29/siyahkernel-s2-v3-5/
Tar for Odin.
Then use this guide.
http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s2-i9100-root-android-4-0-3-ics-xwlpd-88120/
Nevermind it says Cf-root. I flashed my Siyah kernel that way.
After that, flash any rom you want in recovery. Just do a Nandroid backup in recovery and backup apps with Titanium backup from Market!!!

Don't restore apps after flashing newer ROM, cause your phone will bootloop.
Better create text file and write names of installed apps.
Im not sure why everyone is worried about backing up there apps ive flashed about a 100 roms and never had to back them up cause if u go to the play store under my apps there always there
Infact there are apps there id forgotten about just pick which ones u want and re install .some roms auto instal them for u .make sure you have a google acc obviously!

What type of data? Music and photos are saved to the external SD card for me, and as for game save data, I believe that is externally backed up as well.

Only if the application is on the external memory card then it's backed up there. Otherwise they'll loose the data if that's not the case.

If you restore from google play, you loose all your app settings and you will have to reconfigure each app.
Also, Google Play will not show apps installed offline (apk)
Restoring app data with third party app like titanium backup is safe if app is compatible with the target rom

one more question after i done tht tutorial how do i flash the rom to my phone?? and then how would you put another one on if i gt bored of tht one ?? cheers

CWM-and have you bothered reading a Rom thread as there's normally install instructions.
And when I get bored of a rom I just restore my nand backup of something previous.

in order to install a perticular custom rom , all u have to do is to follow the install instruction's of the same in there OP. and the same applies to all other roms also.
since installation instruction do vary from one custom rom to another
Jasper, you are better to read up on things so you are familiar with the processes of like rooting/kernels/roms/cwm/Odin/troubleshooting.
I understand reading 1000s of posts is tedious, but you could end up with a non working phone.

so i succesfully flashed Siyah 3.5.2 onto my phone now on to flashing the rom onto my phone
Done it people I officially have flashed paranoid android hybrid 1.9.5 cm10 on my galaxy s2 yet .... the newbie is not a newbie anymore ... anything else I can do with my phone ????

[Q] How to use Nandroid backups

I see that there is a collection of nandroid backups in this thread. I believe the concept is that if you are already rooted and there is an update available, you can just use these backups to upgrade to a newer version and stay rooted. However, will I lose the apps that I have installed? Will I need to make my own backup and restore them afterwards (or reinstall the apps from the Play Store)?
General questions belong in the question section.

U can create backup using 5.xxxx but restoring it will give a boot loop
however u can flash stock firmware using odin and then restore app data from the backup file using titanium backup
i have done this myself. However it is a long process
the backup option is there along with restore option
Still the cwm u want to avoid is this one ie 5.xxxx because after flashing stock rom thru odin u will still have bootloop
so after flashing stock, use stock recovery to factory reset, wipe data, wipe cache etc. then only your phone will start
Sir, one more question
My gs lags badly whenever i play games including subway surfer, paper toss
Plz tell how to solve the lagging problem
Sent from my GT-S5282 using xda premium
That is y we r trying to make custom Roms to reduce the lag BTW if u want install pureperformance and pure graphics that is available in one of the threads or else install seeder and that reduces a lot of lag
Download a third party launcher like nova launcher as it consumes lesser ram
Also greenify is a good app to limit background processes
Also go to developer options and set animation scales to .5 x that helps too
DO NOT CLEAR RAM
PEOPLE THINK THAT IT REDUCES LAG BUT IT DOES NOT
Click thanks if u find this helpful

I ve already done two things
Nova launcher is the default launcher n its best no doubt
I installed gl tools n also greenifyed fb, msngr etc now phone is lagging less but games r still lagging
N I know nothing about seeder will you plz post the link

I have edited my gltools post for better speed...
and u can find pure graphics hd in my signature below
seeder can be found on play store
or here at xda apps section
most high end games will lag as expected but the games you mentioned shoudnt maybe somethings taking a lot of resources in ur fone
sometimes when i install a lot of apps i find this problem that some app is misbehaving though finding it is quite difficult
when u remove it the fone becomes normal again
except seeder u may also use ram manager
Hey guys...
Coming soon with a new build which has nexus look Hope u like it guys
