I've been pulling my hair out trying to make Kies work but nothing seems to help. Kies detects GT-I9300 but doesn't get past the 'Connecting' screen. I uninstalled Kies, removed the drivers, removed registry entries related to kies, temporary files, cache, everything and reinstalled the latest update, still it doesn't help. I've tried connecting with 'USB Debugging off' as well as 'USB Debugging On'. Nothing seems to work.
The last time Kies connected to my device was before I flashed Siyah Kernel, I haven't checked since then. Has it got anything to do with the kernel?
I'm running the latest Siyah Kernel
and Stock Rom: I9300XXDLJ5
I need it to connect to Kies so that I can update to I9300XXDLK1
Any solutions?
Update using Odin, its much more easier and less trouble,

I had same thing. In my case few times unplug the cable and plug back in helped. Weird but true. You can check if you can make connection via wi-fi ( kies wi-fi in phone settings) i was able to do it from very beginning before i got kies via cable sorted out.
Make sure your phone is unlocked when you plug it in. I spent a bit of time trying to get it talking initially including rebooting my phone, the PC, the phone & the PC. Turned out unnlocking the phone did the trick.
in settings/applications/development, make sure the USB debugging box is unticked.
I've tried those things too.
My notebook notice my sgs2 thats no problem, the problem is my notebook doesn't install the
Samsung_android and cdc serial driver. Those 2 fail.
Wierd thing is that it can connect as mass storage.
make sure you have no apps running! and USB debugging isn't ticked.
go onto stock TW launcher [will not work with launcher pro Etc AFAIK].
open task manager, clear all running apps and clear Ram. then open Kies and when loaded connect USB.
that's how i get it to work for me anyway
Rumble
That's what i tried to. But thats not the problem. Problem is that my laptop doesn't installs the cdc serial driver.

I've also tried that, it didn't work..
I've discovered what the problem is...
My browcli.dll file is corrupted and thats why it can't install the drivers correctly.
I had this exact problem, so I followed some advice I found on the web somewhere
1) uninstall kies
2) re-install kies but choose english US, as they seem to have missed out the CDC drivers for other languages!

STEPS TO USING KIES with a Samsung Galaxy S2 (SII, eye eye, anything you want to call it on Windows 7 vista or XP
1.Ensure your USB Debugging feature is not checked (when some stores copy your contacts from one fone to another, they check this box. USBD will F up your KIES.)
2. Stop your antivirus from your stock app manager.
3. Kies running on cuomputer, and phone at a home screen, plug it in.
voila.
If you have been using multiple phones over usb, or trying to root phones etc, i suggest you recover you delete any trace of usb or phone drivers on your machine, and repair your windows install. then try again.
This is how I fixed it for my scenario:
My Scenario:
few days back my SGS2 stopped recognizing apps installed on SD Card and I keep on getting "Force Close" error for installed (3rd party) apps on phone. I installed Kies on PC to backup my data before rooting my device, but Kies 2.0 was unable to read my phone. That's why i came here..
My Fix:
I uninstalled all downloaded (3rd party) apps and that fixed the issue. In all I removed more than 20 apps, that were installed on phone.
RCA:
I believe some 3rd party app or apps were messing up with my phone, my sdcard, my Kies. Anyways I am planning to root the device so my sole intention is to take back up of my data (pics, vids to be specific)
Suggestion:
1. Try connecting to Kies, after removing SD Card. It will narrow down if prob is with SDCard or SDCard data
2. Try uninstalling apps 1 by 1, to see which one is the culprit.
I had the same problem of Kies unable to connect to my phone. I could charge the phone, see it in the devices, connect through mass storage mode. Kies would even detect the phone when plugged in, tried to connect and would hang. I tried the usual steps (updated Kies, verified USB debugging is off, terminated all apps on the phone), but nothing worked.
I just rooted my phone and was concerned that something might have gone wrong in the process, resulting in the connection error, though every thing seemed to be normal. Out of desperation, I tried the diagnose connection problems button in Kies and Kies reinstalled the driver, tried connecting and rebooted the system. I tried again and this time it took much longer to install, but worked.
I suggest rebooting the system, before reinstalling Kies, as it worked after the reboot.
Do I need to worry about this error? Have attached the screenshot of Kies.
It says, 'GT-9100 does not support firmware upgrade'. It's not rooted phone, and runs on stock firmware which came with the phone.
you have a custom rom?
try to download via phone...
settings>phoneinfo... update
Not using custom rom. It's all factory default. The settings>phone info>update gives me 'connection failed', needless to say the connection is just fine.
The "in-phone software update" doesn't work, don't bother with that.
Is your phone in "Kies" mode when connected via USB? (it should be)
Have you enabled USB debugging (it should be off)
Are you running the latest version of Kies (make sure it's updated)
You might want to try backing up apps and data, resetting to factory defaults and trying again.
Yes, phone is in Kies mode when connected to USB.
USB debugging is off, was never 'on' to begin with.
Kies version on my Mac is, 1.0.0.11065_22
This issue has started coming up from this morning, everything was fine till last night.
Don't worry about it. The mac version does not support flashing of the phone yet.

Hi. So I went ahead and installed ICS 4.0.3 on my Galaxy S2. It's still buggy and I can't live with some of the things that are wrong. I want to go back to stock but now Odin isn't recognizing my phone. It shows up on Kies, and in Odin while powered on, just not on download mode. I've tried the following:
Tried with usb debugging enabled and disabled
Uninstalled Kies, cleanead registry, rebboted, installed kies again
Killed all Kies processes before runing Odin
Removed phone's battery
Uninstalled and reinstalled phone drivers on Windows 7
Any idea of what can be wrong? I will appreciate your help.
Try different usb ports (must be a powered/mainboard port, not a hub), try different cables (particularly the original cable that came with the phone), try different versions of Odin.
And lastly, try different PCs/different versions of Windoze.
Thank you very much. Sometimes I think of the most complicated solutions and disregard the most obvious. Turns out that because Kies and Odin while powered on recognized my phone, I never considered changing ubs ports. That was the solution. I'm now back to GB 2.3.6 and glad to. I'll wait on a stable version of ICS for my phone.
No worries Glad you got it sorted. Yep, I'm also often guilty of overlooking the simple stuff too

As the title says, Kies no longer sees/detects my phone. Did the sammfiles/rooted update to my phone via odin and Kies wouldn't see the phone. Wiped the phone and forced an update via Kies with model number/serial number and afterward Kies still would not detect my phone. Any ideas?
Edited to remove the "task rom" comment. Got my devices mixed up

Have you tried to turn off debugging in the development section?
Yeah. Tried that. It's no biggie tho since I can still force updates if needed. Thanks for the reply.
Removing/Freezing/Uninstalling/Disabling etc... bloatware causes Kies not to work.
Installing CWM also causes Kies not to work. Because, in short, CWM replaced the factory recovery
I find that if I plug my USB cable into different ports on the front of my computer I get different results.. Might be worth a shot to try if you have more than 1 to choose from.
"Device Not Supported by Kies 2.0"
I've a similar problem. I ran Kies yesterday for the first time since the ICS update back in April and it began to update to a new version. After which it says, "This device is not supported by Kies 2.0"?! I've uninstalled and re-installed about 8 times today even the Samsung USB drivers and nothing! What's going on?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

it wouldn't work while i was rooted with gingerbread. i returned to stock and it worked fine. after that i was able to root after update thanks to creepyncrawly from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746181 and it works fine now. if you go this route make sure to read the whole thread first. you have to get another kernal before wiping or you can brick your phone. im using siyah-v3.4.3-nonswap by ktoonsez and so far so good. not sure if you have to update to ucle5 for it to work but thats what i did. i havent had a chance to try other roms. hope this helps a little

For me. This is what worked. First go into device manager (on computer obviously)and remove the phone drivers currently installed.Next turn off usb debugging. Then plug your phone in to a different usb port. Let it do it's thing. Unplug, turn on usb debugging, plug back in.Let it do it's thing unplug. Reboot into cwm recovery, plug in. Let it do it's thing. Unplug. Turn off usb debugging. Boot up phone. Plug in. Profit. At least this is what fixed it for me.Good luck. Happy flashing.

Hello there,
I am in the throws of trying to root my S6 edge (want to play using Magisk etc), but something just never happens when I try to do this through Odin.
I have the phone connected, everything seems fine with the file I am trying to use as an image, but nothing happens on the phone end at all. I get Succeeded 0 / Failed 0 as a response in Odin.
I have the drivers from Samsung installed. I even installed Kies. And I think this is where the problem is. I don't think the phone is being recognised. I have debug mode over USB on, but I just think the phone isn't being found by Odin.
Do any of you have some tips for me?

Please be sure that Kies is not running (even not in background) when you run Odin. It won't work then.
In the past I only installed Kies to get the Samsung drivers installed. Afterwards, I immediately uninstalled Kies in order to have no trouble with Odin, and anyway if I've Odin I've no personal need for Kies.

I didn't have Kies installed the first time, and nothing worked. But even with Kies, I still can not get the PC to recognise any device. It is frustrating, because as far as I can see I have done everything right.
No matter what I do, I can not get the S6 to appear in Odin at all.
Further to this, despite having the drivers installed from Samsung, freshly today, the USB fails to be recognised (this is the issue). So I need to work out how to overcome this. Any suggestions?
More precisely, in the Device Manager, under USB, the failed USB states: "Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".
*Update*
I did a factory reset on the S6 and still, no good. The device doesn't want to connect to any port in any computer with any cable.
