[Q] Gps notification- Can not remove help... - HTC Droid DNA

I have Gps turned off yet there is a notification on the bar seemingly taking up space for no reason. How do I remove this?

As has been said in some other posts, I do not believe you can remove it (at least not until someone finds a work-around to disable it). I hope I'm wrong but I seem to remember the Thunderbolt being the same.

Yeah it's a bizarre feature that the Thunderbolt had as well. It completely mystifies me since the actual GPS receiver icon appears whenever it is being accessed, so why have this duplicate redundant icon that sits there 24/7? Just another idiotic move in a sea of software development, every company has them.

[Q] Is the GPS always on?

I've read a number of sources talk about how enabling the GPS pulls a lot from the battery unnecessarily.
But on the Atrix, when I'm not in an app that uses it (such as Google Maps), the icon dissappears from the taskbar. Does this mean that the Atrix doesn't suffer from this problem?
Or is the GPS always on when you have it enabled?
Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but most of my phones have been this way. If you have the GPS it stays on, even when not used. The icon appears when an app is using your location and disappears when not in use.
That seems like such an obvious bit of poor programming and design. It makes no sense.
Well, if it's confirmed that this is how it works, I guess I should be using Tasker to fix that...

Any way to find out why my location icon is always 'broadcasting'?

So I understand that the GPS icon is always going to be on in ICS (super useful design), but i've noticed this morning that mine is also constantly in the transmitting state, ie: (+) ) ) ). I can't figure out why, since I don't have any apps that should be using GPS on right now. It didn't start off this way, and I haven't installed anything.
I'm just concerned that it's draining battery.
I've got my GPS enabled all the time, but the icon only shows up when it's actively in use. might be a deeper problem.
Check Facebook and any weather Widgets you gave set to use current location.

Nope. already had location disabled on those.
its because you have location services enabled. Once you turn all of those off it will no longer broadcast
Right, sort of. On every other phone I've seen, just having them enabled but not currently used results in just the GPS (location icon), which looks like a crosshair: (+), and then if something, like a navigation program or facebook is using your location service, it turns into (+) ) ) ) --crosshair with waves coming out of it.
Mine's always in the latter state, even when I go to task manager and make sure there's nothing that SHOULD be using it ...

On the SGS3 as well as the SGS2, the crosshair icon was only on if GPS was active (i.e. navigation was on or Facebook or something else actively using the GPS) I ALWAYS had mine enabled, so that when I needed it active, I would not need to perform an unnecessary step. Sounds to me like you have either an app that is causing it to remain active all the time, or there is something wrong with your phone.
I have the same issue, it shows that the GPS is constantly in use (not just the E911 service). Any thoughts on why that is?
Are you on Verizon?

GPS constantly working

Hello all!
Since yesterday, when I updated the firmware of my phone, the GPS icon has been shown constantly in the notification bar. It did not use to happen before. I am afraid it might be draining more battery than needed but I don't want to turn off GPS completely as I wanted it to be "ready to use" whenever I need to use, for example, Google Maps.
Is there something I can do? How can I control which app's might be using GPS connection in every moment?
Thank you!
+1
Every once in a while I see the GPS icon light up for a couple of seconds without apparent reason. I have no auto geo locating widget or so running, which might be an obvious guess.
Edit: just noticed I had weather information enabled on the lock screen so that may be the cause.

[Q] Anyone know of a GPS logging app?

So, I've got my GPS turned off in the settings (both Wireless Networks, and GPS) but recently I've been seeing the GPS icon show up and blink for a few seconds in the notification bar, and then disappear.
I'm wondering if there's a GPS logging app out there that'll log the timestamp of all GPS requests, the app that made the request, and maybe the IP or similar detective info so that I can figure out exactly what's firing up my GPS Wondering if a little malware slipped onto my phone, or something.
TIA

Disable GPS notification

Is there any way, even with rooting or a ROM, to disable this stupid GPS notification?
I completely understand that it's trying to tell me that an application is occasionally using the GPS in the background, but it's irritating and unnecessary. I don't care that something is using the GPS. I'm fine with it. Stop telling me every few minutes.
My last two devices were Nexus phones and they don't bother popping up a notification unless an application is attempting to maintain a continuous GPS lock. That makes way more sense.
So is there a ROM that offers the ability to turn off these GPS notifications? Or some method of disabling the notification that doesn't involve stopping the applications from using GPS.
did you ever find the answer?
