Problems with my HTC One X+ - HTC One X+

It looks like I am going to be swapping out my one x+
Any one else have these isses?
-GPS jumps around and doesn't lock on at all sometimes. My phone tells me I am in vegas, when I am in los angeles
-Wifi needs to be restarted 1-2 times a day. I am connected to my router, but cannot access the internet

Nah, sounds like you have a lemon. I've been on GPS non-stop since I got here to San Diego, and it works perfectly every time. The wifi is also rock solid in my hotel.
Have you tried a factory reset to see if changes anything?

yeah I did a reset.
I did some research and it seems the GPS issue could be related to my router and google thinking the MAC is in a different location. When the phone is off wifi, the GPS seems to work fine.
I am not sure what is up with the wifi though.

I've had mine since Friday with none of those issues..good luck..just take it back and swap it for a new one .

No issues at all. Been flawless....
I have noticed everything is improved over the One X. Voice quality, speed, etc. I can tell project butter is in play as I have a Galaxy Nexus (gsm) and notice similarities.
Wifi can be a router setting issue. The local thing I did notice with some older HTC devices. Make sure you have all the GPS setting turned on and restart the phone outside. If it keeps doing this I would simply exchange.

Problem here too
My husband and I got two HTC One X+'s last Saturday. - Same problem. With certain location settings, we are sent to Chantilly, VA (to an AT&T store location, I believe). We live 450 miles away in NC.
One scenario: If we uncheck the 3rd Location option in settings (google search..) and keep the first two checked. If we leave the phone sitting for a little while, google maps will come up at our location, then it swings up to Chantilly, VA and stays there for 3-5 seconds, and then swings back down to us in NC.
If we also check the 3rd Location option in settings, it will stay in Virginia.
On Tuesday, I called HTC Support 4 times, trying to figure this out. I've done a factory reset.
Since it looks like it's going to an AT&T center, we've wondered if the phones were sitting there for a while, generating entries in the Google database? Any possibility that the phone also has some sort of internal database?
I'll probably call HTC again tomorrow and I'm at the point where I can have this escalated to a developer. Depending on the answers, I may go to the AT&T store, -- have them open another phone (if they have some in stock) and see how Maps behaves out of the box.

UPDATE: We made a trip yesterday, 1.5 hours away. The GPS and cell location services worked fine! It was not until we got within range of our cell phone tower, just up the street from us, or within range of our wireless, that the phone thought it was back in Chantilly, VA. Turning GPS on fixed this.
I don't think there's anything wrong with our router or cell tower -- my old Galaxy phone has no trouble at all with location. Ditto for my Nexus 7 tablet.
We've left GPS on, and it's looking like the phone is slowly learning that our router and cell phone tower are not located at the AT&T store in Chantilly. It definitely looks like traveling around with the phone helped to give it more info about where we are.
It seems like maybe the original image put on the phone inadvertently had location info? Or there's some sort of internal database with location info that doesn't get wiped when you do a factory reset? HTC is going to be running into some problems with this -- I can't believe that we have the only phones with this problem to overcome.
Does anyone know more about how location services are handled?

Location is once again stuck in VA. Spoke to HTC earlier today, terrible support person, trying again.

Called HTC support again last night. The person said that this was a known issue and a fix will be getting sent out at some point. - Though there is a possibility that she was just trying to get rid of me. Whatever I asked, she just said yes.
I'd love to hear from other folks who feel that the HOX+ is working flawlessly for them. No problems at all? Thanks!

Whenever I am on LTE, the GPS works flawlessly. I determined I only have problems on wifi networks.

most android GPS has some dependencies on the interwebs. Time to acquire fix depends quite a bit on having the right time (meaning NTP). So if you just walked into a starbucks and picked up wifi but havent completed negotiating yet, GPS may be making an NTP query that will stall. That sort of thing. There are quite a few silly little situations that can make for long fix times.
For what it's worth, the HOX+ has pretty fantastic GPS on the whole. I threw on GPS for giggles, and got a fix in 4 seconds as measured by the app ("GPS Status on the market has a "time to fix" option). Initial error was 10m and quickly went down to 5m or so. I'm on the bottom story of a 2 story house with an attic, and not near a window. Compared to my old HTC Inspire (American Desire HD), it's fairly insane. This is through 100 year old wood and nails with zero line of sight to the sky, and a neighbor living above me. So if your GPS is skipping around in standard car/travel GPS situations, there may be another issue.

Evo 3D just stopped connecting to "Mobile Network."

Just sitting here at work, and I noticed my battery was unusually low for my usage today... when I noticed that my 3G icon was missing. I thought that was weird, because less than an hour ago, I had it for sure. I was getting email updates for work on a regular basis.
When I checked my quick settings, my mobile network just kept saying "Turning On," and would sometimes flash between that and 'ON' but never actually brought up a 3G, (or any data icon for that matter.) Texts are still getting through, but are about 2-3 minutes behind Google Voice popups on my laptop.
Has anyone else seen this before? I have rebooted, and tried Airplane mode, and disabling/renabling all the radios individually, and nothing has worked... Guess I should yank the battery now. Really bizarre. I usually get pretty good 3G service over here.
If it continues, exchange it.

Mine did the exact same thing this afternoon in Lubbock Tx. I rebooted, turned off and on and data always showed turning on but never connected. For some reason I ended up in the Sprint Zone and it then connected. It went into spring zone as I tried to connect to *2.
Don't have a good explanation of why it started working but try going to the spring zone and check data on.
The same exact thing happened to me too on my 3d today.

Did you do the "speedup 3D" trick that was posted where you removed the proxies after typing in your MSL password? If so, undo it, because that's your problem.
I haven't messed with any settings. I pondered it, but I haven't received my MSL code yet.
I did just find out that my coworker lost his 3G on his Epic. I think this is a Sprint issue, and not any of the devices... Scary though.
Austin, TX here.
im experiencing the same issue right now here in north austin, tx. im getting basic phone services but no network (market/FB/web/etc.)
and no I did not use the speed up internet fix.

well seeing how there are 3 texas people here experiencing this issue it might just be issue with sprint
Maybe they are upgrading the equipment of the "node".
I will be calling sprint on break in 10 minutes to find out
Well I just came back from BestBuy and picked up the 3D here in Michigan. Everyone in mobile just about had Sprint and no one could connect to 3g. My Evo 4g had a very limited connection. As soon as I got the 3D, it couldn't update the weather. So it is definitely something going on with Sprint right now and not your phone.
Just came back for me... Ben White / I-35 area. That was weird.
Are you sure your power saver settings aren't disabling your data connection due to your phone being below the % you set it at?
I don't think it's a 3d problem. I've had trouble connecting to 3g here and there with my og evo about 2 weeks before the 3d came out. I seriously think sprint has some serious network problems.
Man what is going on with Sprint? It's been happening a bit today as well.
I installed golflogix and it gave me an error message and forced closed the program and also put the 3d into airport mode.
However, golflogix will work on 4g.
There seems to be some problems with the sprint network or the 3d.
I had this same issue over the weekend. Rebooting the phone never worked so I did a factory reset and havent had the problem since. but it does make me a little apprehensive.
Perhaps the network is experiencing outages as they roll out an upgrade to their data network to proactively detect unauthorized tethering activity so that when HTC imminently unlocks the Evo 3D, they can charge backdoor tetherers appropriately.

[Q] Losing signal on my Amaze 4G

Okay, here is my problem: Every once in a while I will completely lose all signal on my phone. It wont pick up 2G, 4G, nothing. Wifi and bluetooth both seem to work though just fine. I've searched and haven't found anyone with the same issues so I'm wondering if it's just my phone or if nobody has commented on it. I first noticed this about two weeks ago, when my phone refused to find service. I was stuck with the little X next to the signal meter. I figured I was just in an area with poor service and didn't think much of it. An hour later, still, no service. This time I went outside where I know I have good 4G service and nothing for 5 minutes. I enabled airplane mode and disabled it, still nothing. Turned the phone off and back on as a last resort. Still nothing. I ended up finishing the day with wifi calling as that still worked. Sometime later my phone began receiving service again so I thought it was a fluke issue.
Then, just yesterday the same thing happened. This was when I rebooted my phone (which bypasses the fastboot feature) and service was restored right away. I called T-mobile and they said there weren't any network issues in my area and they had never heard of this issue before on the Amaze.
So, this is where I'm asking if anyone has heard of this before. I'm running a stock ROM and it hasn't been rooted. Thanks for any comments!
This might help just a touch. I do live in an area with decent service but my couch and bedroom are deadzones for some odd reason. I bought these signal boosters for 2 bucks figuring "what the hell, I'll give it a shot". No more dead zones, and data went from E to G. Not a miracle worker but for a couple bucks it keeps a signal at least.

Wireless Coverage
I have 2 brand new Amaze 4G for a few months now and had no problem with the coverage. I know the coverage is good with full signal bars and have not found any issue with coverage.
Sometimes, different phones have different received signal sensitivity. Also depends on user behavior. If you are always using a handsfree device (cable or BT) and your phone is in a bag, then your coverage is reduced by your action. The best coverage you can ever get is when you have line of sight (unobstructed) to the cell towers.
There are a few issues with your problem:
1-Poor inbuilding coverage
2-Poor coverage in your area
3-Network optimization issue
4-Hardware issue
If you are going from 1 bar to no bar, then most likely you have coverage issue. You lost signal since the level is already very low.
If you are going from full bar to no bar, you might have hardware or network optimization issue. Try your phone is the city or area with known good coverage first. If the behavior persists, then you have phone problem.
I used to manage wireless network for carriers.
same issue
I've had the exact same thing happen to me. Red x, no signal except wifi, in places where signal is not normally an issue. Battery pull doesn't work, return to signal seems arbitrary. Had the same thing happen with my Desire. I have no answers, but you are not alone.
Yup, it happened with my first Amaze. I got it back in January and started playing with it - rooting, custom ROMs, etc. Then later that day, the signal just died on me. I thought I must've screwed something up, so I flashed back to everything stock. No luck. I waited for half a day, then it randomly started working again at night.
You probably noticed tha tI said that happened with my first amaze. That's because after that signal issue, I discovered that my camera stopped working. I returned it to T-Mobile and they sent me another one. This one is working great though.
Well thank you for all the input so far. Id like to say that this isn't my first cell phone and I'm not new to weak or poor signal areas, especially from T-mobile. I was using my phone at work at the time, which has anywhere from no signal to 3 bars depending on where you are. This wasn't one of the cases that I was standing in a dead zone when I checked my phone. I had no signal for several hours, including over 30 minutes of standing outside trying everything I could think of. I have had excellent signal outside in the past, exactly where I was "Hiding". I got the Amaze because I was tired of playing with my old HD2 and having to work around bugs and possibly not receiving calls. So far, I'm not happy that the radio seems to quit responding all together and leaves me without a phone (minus the wifi calling but I'm not always around a hotspot).
I also experienced a dramatic signal loss at home, going from full signal strength to maybe one bar right around the time that I first had issues. I don't know if this is related or if this is a completely different thing.
I am 99% sure this is an error with the phone - probably software related with the radio driver(s) or radio firmware. I guess I will try taking it back to T-mobile and seeing if they could exchange it for a new one. I was just really wanting to avoid that as I finally got my phone setup how I like it. Again, Thank you for the input and let me know if you are having the same problem or if you know of a solution.
I am on my third Amaze and also tried a Galaxy SII X due to the same problem at my home. Even the Samsung did the same thing. In my house and especially in the driveway, the signal varies wildly between -85dbm to as low as -111dbm. The frustrating thing is once it loses the signal, it doesn't seem to reacquire it without a reboot.
I'm with Telus, and they said they will check on it, but I'm not holding my breath. In my immediate area, outside my house, the signal isn't great, but it will usually hang on. I have been to different cities, and all has been well with it. Coming from a rock steady 2G Touch Pro II, I am disappointed as well..
I am new here to this site, but I am having a similar problem with my Amaze. At work I always have a weak 4G signal, but the last few days it has been gone altogether. I have full phone service (4 bars) but no data. The 4G indicates I have signal, but I can't connect to anything on the web. I called HTC and they had me pull my battery and sim card so they could send a "reset signal" to my phone. After my phone came back up I had faster service than ever, but it only lasted a few minutes and went away again. I am thinking this is a phone issue. Oh, the Amaze is my first Android. My only previous smartphone was my Nokia E71x.
I know if I have WiFi calling selected, an x will show up on my signal if i turn WiFi on. I've personally only had slow data in the area I work. I blame it on the fact that it is a busy corporate park with lots of hotels, cuz my signal is fine elsewhere. Try calling tmobile and seeing if they have known tower issues in your area. I know I had that problem with sprint and they sent me a free airave. Maybe tmobile could do something similar if its.a known problem.

It's most likely a network issue. I get the same thing, it will timeout/refresh the network where it will not get a signal for about 30 seconds a few times per day. I blame the network, since the same thing happened to me with my mt4g

Thank you! This fixed it for me. It was happening only today while I had WiFi enabled, it would turn the mobile radio off completely and the box would be grayed out so I was unable to turn it back on. I had my sim updated today to enable wifi calling so after I read your post, I turned the wifi calling off and the mobile radio signal came back immediately. Strange bug.

I was told It's by design. It saved battery life by not constantly searching for a mobile network it won't use (due to wifi calling). It's not like you can hand off the call to the local network. I do notice that if i start walking outside, once my wifi hits a low signal it logs back on the network.

There is actually an option to specify how the WIFI calling works: either all the time or only when cellular signal is gone. Sounds like you have it set to be on all the time. This means that if you have a good WIFI connection, the cellular radio is shut off and all traffic goes through the WIFI calling app. The other option (which I use) only uses wifi calling when there is no cellular signal.
I have lost cellular signal 3 additional times since my last post. Its not just that I'm in a bad spot and I have no signal for 30 seconds. This goes on for 30 minutes or more - up to several hours. I have found that rebooting the phone fixes it as I believe it completely (as much as possible) removes power from the radio and requires it to be completely re-initiated during the reboot. Simply shutting it off doesn't work as the quickboot is enabled and most likely doesn't perform a complete re-initialization of the radio. My only guess at this point is that there is some kind of possible leftover code from development which never was removed from the radio (this happens more times than not). It could be a timeout or simply causing the radio to hang because of 1. excessive heat generation, 2. excessive power drain, 3. buffer overflow, 4. excessive RF transmit power... In any case, one of those issues could trigger an event in the radio to cause it to simply stop responding.
I am in the process of trying to get T-Mobile to get me a new phone as I am outside of the 30-day window. I have also confirmed it with them that this was not a tower issue.
Thanks

Shoot, I see senior members start new threads or pointless threads without searching first, so good job haha.
Ok, back on topic now, if it's only dropping when you go in your room, then I don't think it's anything wrong with the phone. Not sure who your provider is, but u may be able to call them and have them look up your address and tell you what kind of signal u should get outside your house, and what to expect inside your house. I know t-mobile does at least

Well your situation is a little different than other peoples in this thread if u can't connect al all. Ok wait so first off, it won't connect to a network at all? AND you only paid 50 bucks for it...? Sounds a little fishy to me bud, why did he say he was selling it...?
Next thing, I don't know why a t-mo rep would tell you to root the phone, rooting has no effect on your signal strength or your ability to connect to a network.
And lastly, is the phone a T-Mobile branded amaze owhat carrierr...? and will it not connect at all, period, or can u make calls just not data...?

HTC Titan II drops cellular data connection randomly

Curious issue with my Titan II. Cellular data connection just fails at random intervals. Cycling airplane mode or rebooting the phone is the only way to get it back. HTC blames it on AT&T and AT&T blames it on HTC. I've spent hours on the phone with each. Even got a new Titan II from AT&T, but it went into this constant reboot loop, so I went back to the first unit.
Now comes the interesting part: I live in Detroit and have been traveling to FL quite a bit, this year.. and the issue DOES NOT HAPPEN IN TAMPA. Phone runs perfectly well, there. Here in Detroit, cellular data "up" time ranges from 5 minutes to 14 hours when static. 2 minutes to 20 minutes when driving around town. Drops are less frequent when streaming something.
HTC Titan II stock (FW: 2180.0400.118011.502)
Windows Phone 7.5 (7.10.8112.7)
4G SIM card (3rd one)
Appropriate data plan
Serious thanks for any ideas anyone has. Do I add an APN, throw the phone against the wall, or what? Please do not suggest I change to a different phone as that is not an option.

Yes, I'm facing the same issue.
It seems something related to wifi sleeping when the phone goes stand by and the solution could be keeping it alive in some way....like streaming..
I hope this will be fixed with AT&T Tango 8773 Update (Once it finally come....)

Are you sure you aren't hitting "black spots" on your network? If you have random connection drops in only particular area it is likely the masts and AT&T issue. I've swapped my provider from the one which did 2G/3G signals to 3G only provider. 3G only has better coverage and lesser black spots on the network and hence I hardly see any drops in connectivity. Don't hard reset or anything, it will only make you re-do the whole phone, won't help the cause.
Have you checked if two golden pins on the back cover are making good contact with phone?

Have to rule all of that out as it doesn't happen at all in Tampa. I can drive from Ybor City to Clearwater and back and never need to reset the phone. Here at home, I have four bars and will lose cellular data with the phone in a static location. Driving around in Detroit is guaranteed to make it drop cellular data even with the phone lit up and active. I can have Navigator running and it'll just quit loading maps and giving directions until I cycle Airplane Mode. In Tampa, this doesn't happen.
In Tampa, I've gone the whole week without any need to reset the phone. I can't walk from the gate to baggage claim in Detroit before it loses its data connection.

UPDATE: Cellular data connection is a little better with WiFi turned off. It won't lose it as quickly in a static location, but still loses it as I move between towers. Also had to reinstall a couple of apps that had stopped launching.
Is forcing Tango an option?
I have the same problem,
I live north of detroit.
my phone has been in to htc repair 3 times, i think they have replaced every part in it, the last time i got it back it held connectivity for 11 minutes.
this is on my home tower as well as several towers around me.
Normally all testing was done with wifi off, on towers where the lumia 900 and my wifes iphone have never lost data.
i have been waiting a week for a htc level 2 rep to call me.
we shall see
Keep me posted. Last time I spent time with HTC, they decided that - since the issue only happens in Detroit - that it was AT&T's problem. AT&T, naturally, claims that the problem doesn't appear on any other device, so it must be the device.
Can't wait for Windows 8 phones. I'm getting one.. ANY one.. the first day they go on sale.
Well I just got off of the phone with a level 2 rep from HTC, who seemed pretty confident that the problem is the rear cover. He is sending one out, and says if that doesn't fix it then it will be a phone replacement.

I'm more skeptical than you, trust me, but it would explain how so many people get the same problem with replacement handsets, as that piece is often not replaced
So, I'm in Florida for the week and noticed something.
In Detroit, the status bar says "4G"
In Tampa, the status bar says "LTE"
As before, I have not lost cellular data connection since I landed in FL. Kind of rules out the battery cover as the issue is gone, here. It appears the issue goes away in LTE areas while it's present in areas yet to get LTE. Detroit's LTE rollout hasn't happened, yet. So, it appears I've got another month of suffering before the problem is rectified.
One other note. With Internet Sharing set to ON...
In Detroit, my wife's laptop connects to the phone and can get internet.
In Tampa, my wife's laptop connects to the phone, but cannot get internet. It gets the error msg: "your computer is trying to use a dns server that is incorrect or doesn't exist"
My laptop works flawlessly connecting to the phone's Internet Sharing both in Detroit and Tampa. For the life of me, I can't find anything different in her settings over mine. Both are Win7. Hers upgraded from Vista, mine x64 and new this fall. Also, two internet-capable televisions connect to the phone and get to the internet flawlessly. But something with LTE doesn't like my wife's computer. Odd.
Honestly, I adore everything about this phone except for the data connection issue in Detroit (and a few other areas, it seems).
There HAS to be a setting or SOMEthing I can tweak to get this thing to work in Detroit.
Check battery cover, radio negotiation, firmware of radio

Hum.. that's curious. I had the original titan with similar issues.
I disabled wifi when not connected. I replaced battery cover also. The titan2 supposedly fixed that issue with the battery cover because it was a design flaw.
The radio supports 2G, 3G/4G/H and LTE. You may want to check it. You can set the radio it uses and not let the firmware decide which radio to use. You can check the service menu, I forgot the code. Just search for it.
If you use 2G, data and voice are not supported simultaneously. Check and make sure the contacts on the battery cover and on the phone are clear of debris. Use a solution to clean the contacts on the phone.
In the past I manually set the radio to 3G (HSPA and HSPA+) [HTC Pure, HTC HD2 on at&t]. The 3G radio is mature and should have less issues with the radio negotiation.
BTW, there is a keep alive wifi app also.
Thanks. I'll have to look for the codes. It's pretty obvious after going back and forth so much that the Titan II has a flaw with the way it handles AT&T's 4G. Scanning the maps from others who have had problems all show that they're in areas with 4G but without LTE.
Yeah, if I could force this thing to do LTE or 3G I think we'd be fine. It's the Best Phone Ever so long as it gets LTE, 3G or Edge. Anything else and it's crap.
Yes, back connector is okay and I've done this every way one can think of and kept notes. WiFi doesn't matter. On or off, the T2 will lose cellular data connection randomly in 4G areas. NOT in LTE areas. I'm only unable to test it on other carriers.
Similar problem with data
So I have had a similar problem -
I had a Samsung Focus, great phone, but I wore out the USB port - wouldn't charge consistently or sync. I figured I might as well use the insurance I had been paying. They sent me a Titan I - it had the bad microphone issue. So after some messing around they sent me a Titan II.
It has never had consistent data connection. I am in an area where I get the 4G icon (not LTE).
My experience tells me that if I move around and change cell, or lose signal in the cell I am in for any reason, then the phone will NOT connect back to data. It can (almost always) still get phone calls and send/receive texts and so on, but no data. Toggle airplane mode always fixes the problem, until the next time.
Originally HTC wanted to send me a new back cover - AT&T have been completely useless, they have no idea. Eventually after messing around with factory resets, powering on and off continuously, another new SIM card, HTC decided they want the phone repaired or replaced (level 2).
It is still inside the 30 day limit for exchanges from Assurion (AT&Ts insurance carrier) so it's getting replaced. I'll let you know if it fixes the issue, but I haven't been in an LTE area so I can't check that.
Personally I think it is a problem with handing off/reconnecting to 4G tower service - we'll see......
Anyone have the radio codes?
I've had the same problem since I got the device as well; but have noticed that it doesn't happen in all areas around me. My house is one of those areas though that I always lose connections. I've tried every APN / idea I've found on the internet with no luck. It's clearly something to do with AT&T towers. The only think I've not been able to try is a different SIM card in the same phone since it requires a '4G' sim card to even work at all. However the same SIM does work fine in '3G' only phones.
Going with the radio idea, does anyone have the codes to turn off the LTE radio? I just saw the list saying this phone will be long gone before AT&T ever gets LTE in Colorado so maybe just turning it off would help. Every code i found was for the T1 though and it didn't work on my phone.

UPDATE: HTC insisted on sending me a new SIM card cover (since it contains the radio's antenna). Despite my argument that the fact it works in Florida negates antenna as a suspect, they sent it along, anyhow. Naturally, there is no change. It still randomly drops cellular data. And now, I've picked up another spot on the freeway where my calls get dropped. Granted, it happened ONCE, so that could be any number of things. Long story short, it's not the antenna.
Next idea?
Well, I'm in Florida and found a spot where the phone fell back to 4G from LTE. Data issue returned. So, that takes geography out of the equation. The phone can't hold a data connection when using 4G. So, should I go for a fourth unit?
My addition:
AT&T recently rolled out LTE to my area in CT. I never had the problem before on straight 4G. Now, when I go from LTE to 4G (my drive every morning) data just stops working. I push it in to airplane mode and back out again and it works.
BTW - I am running Tango, so that is not likely to be a fix unless a radio update is released with it.

AT&T just switched on LTE metro-wide, last night. Now, the Titan 2 performs just as it does when I'm in Florida. It's nice having a data connection that'll stay good all over town, again.
I have spent some time discussing this with HTC and AT&T. Actually just got off the phone with HTC level 2.
I too have gone through all the options - new phone, new cover, new SIM card (you can just go into AT&T and ask for one, no charge), hard reset, everything.
From the information in this thread, and elsewhere I can say that the phone drops data on one of two things happening:-
- connection to tower is interrupted in current cell, but is re-acquired
- connection is handed off to adjacent tower as you travel to a new cell
Both these things will drop data IN 4G AREAS ONLY. If you are lucky enough to have consistent LTE in your area, you shouldn't have any problems.
Right now I'm working on getting the service menu codes so we can play with the radio settings. It sounds like HTC support reps have been forbidden to give these to end users on windows phone devices (I wonder why??!!).
If I get this information and it provides a fix for this issue, I will (obviously) post it, and I imagine HTC will as well. Here's hoping.....

[Q] General WiFi Issues (Not Using DLink)

Hi All-
Pre-TL;DR: Got rooted S4. NOT USING A DLINK ROUTER. All wifi networks disappear and reappear 'randomly'.
So I got my S4 from Verizon on Friday the 24th. I set it up and went on my way. About two days after I got it I noticed 'slow' download while on the wifi. Didn't matter what I was doing; google play, downloading a game's extra data, or even just sitting there doing nothing. As I looked into it I found that my wifi connection was dropping. I'm not talking about disconnect and reconnect, but wifi in general would drop. I verified this while sitting in my living room. I live in an apartment and there are a lot of neighbors with wifi. While looking at the available wifi networks I noticed every few seconds ALL of the available networks would disappear (showing only my saved networks). I used a wifi analyzer and changed my wifi channel to an unused channel, checked for firmware updates (both router and phone), but nothing changed. On Tuesday I started work after the holidays and decided to test the wifi on my companies guest wifi. I was seeing the same stuff happening at work. I don't think it's my router(s) because all wifi goes away, not just the specific wireless network. I have the stock S4 that has been rooted using open1your1eyes0's guide
[GUIDE] Root for Verizon Galaxy S4 ***Updated 5/27 - 2:30 AM***, however I noticed this before I rooted it. Is anyone else having this problem? I'm about to take it to Verizon on Thursday.
Phone: Galaxy S4
Carrier: Verizon
Model: SCH-I545
Android: 4.2.2

I experienced this problem on Saturday when I got the phone-Called Verizon and was transferred to Samsung-they told me this is a known issue in the phone and it will require an antenna swap to fix. Apparently they have fixed the phones they are manufacturing now, however the ones which were initially released all have this problem.
Vzw has been no help at all in resolving this, and pretty much have told me "too bad, so sad". Really crappy of them.

Nghthawk and Fleury, I was so happy to see your posts!!! So it's not just a firmware issue!!!
I have a non-rooted S4 and have the same experience. I was with T-Mobile for a week before I transferred to Verizon and had the exact issue there. (I have a co-worker who has a Sprint S4 that doesn't have this problem.) I have this issue both on my home router (Linksys) and at work (Motorola). Previously, I had an S2 and never saw this issue once, neither at home nor at work. I also spoke to Verizon who told me to talk to Samsung. Samsung (via email) has had me try all kinds of crazy manual WiFi settings - none of which work - or are at all practical...
I'm still within my first 14 days of signing with Verizon, so I can still jump ship to get rid of this phone. I'd really rather not spend another __ hours setting up another one, though.
Perhaps you could help me with a bunch of questions I have - please... I really need help with this...
1. Who told you that the antenna needs to be replaced - Samsung or Verizon?
2. Is that documented somewhere that you know of?
3. Is either Verizon or Samsung going to cover the antenna swap?
4. Who / when is supposed to do that for you?
5. What do you suggest I do in my situation (e.g. being within the first 14 days)?
6. If it's an antenna issue, would that affect voice calls (quality / dropping), as well?
Thanks so much!
Eliezer
I will try to answer your questions as best as I can...
1. Who told you that the antenna needs to be replaced - Samsung or Verizon?-Samsung repair rep
2. Is that documented somewhere that you know of?-I'm sure Samsung has it in writing, Verizon is still in denial-having talked to their executive offices today-to which they are clueless and a waste of time
3. Is either Verizon or Samsung going to cover the antenna swap? Yes!
4. Who / when is supposed to do that for you? Samsung told me to send it now, however I am traveling and can't do that at the moment
5. What do you suggest I do in my situation (e.g. being within the first 14 days)? I would keep the phone, they will get it fixed, they don't really have a choice, approx sales are around 80 million units-they can't just ignore it-plus we are going to be the first to get aws spectrum...
6. If it's an antenna issue, would that affect voice calls (quality / dropping), as well? I have no problems with call quality, in fact, it is far better than my Galaxy Nexus which I traded in to get this. I have had 4G also act up to where it just freezes and fails to deliver internet, even though I will show 3-4 bars as well as the 4G lit up....So I believe it seems to only effect data.

It would be useful for those of us still on the sidelines if we can determine if we are getting a fixed version or one with this problem still.
This is one of the reasons I didn't jump in yet - to wait out any early production issues. Well, and still hoping for a 32 or 64gb version.
Interesting. I have a lot of the same issues. My WiFi is so bad I can't see any other WiFi networks on my device from my house where my other devices see 5 to 6. If I go into my daughters room my WiFi pretty much drops completely every time.
I just got off the phone with Samsung tier two / advanced tech support. He told me that my phone was manufactured May 15th... If a two week old phone has the problem, I cannot imagine the "new" ones don't also... He said they have no known issues submitted by Verizon for WiFi connectivity of the S4. Due the fact that it can connect to WiFi, he didn't think it sounded like a hardware issue. He suggested testing by taking the password off my router and seeing how it holds the signal. He said if it was able to maintain a connection like that, it must either be the router firmware or phone software issue.
Verizon said they could swap it with a new one for me - but there's no guarantee (or reason to think) that the same thing won't happen with that new one. And the option of sending it to Samsung and not having it for 11-12 business days isn't very appealing, either...
Not so happy about this...
Eliezer
you do know that the WiFi isse with DLink routers (DIR-655 and DIR-855) is not restricted to only those routers right? It does exist with other brand routers from whats been written about it.
Point being i have a DIR-655 router and had the connect drop connect drop issue and all I did was uncheck the WMM option and rebooted my router and its rock solid. WMM is kind of pointless, 95% of ppl can't even see a difference using it. I don't even think any of the public access points i've run into even have that enabled either.
If it's just your home wifi your having an issue with, turn off WMM in the router settings if you haven't already
Any updates about this? I'm experiencing wifi issues with my S4 where the signal I get on wifi is just horrible. Finally went into work today where we have an open wifi network on the entire campus, and I can't even get 2 bars of wifi from my desk, where my Galaxy Nexus would get 4. When it does connect, it's horribly slow. This has got to be a hardware issue. I may bring it back to Verizon, but I'm wondering if they will even believe me and swap the device.
Well, since I originally posted on this thread - and had commented that I saw this issue on both Verizon and T-Mobile - using both Motorola and Linksys routers --- I've switched to AT&T. I got one of their S4s and have had rock-solid WiFi connectivity with those same two routers ever since...
Not sure what to say...
I experienced my WiFi dropping like that once... how ever.. never again... really weird.. I have better Wifi then I did on my last phone.

Which carrier are you on?
Just compared to my friend's S4. With the two S4's sitting next to each other on my desk, he gets 4 bars of wifi at -46 dbm in Network Signal Info. I get 1 bar, and -88dbm! I walked directly the nearest ceiling mounted access point and my signal went up to -71dbm while he went to -40. So yea I definitely have some issues.

Not from what I can tell. I can edit the post, but I think a mod has to edit the title.
Update tho to my op:
After a factory reset and a re-root I noticed that this issue had stopped. It happened one more time after that, however, after a reboot it was fine again. I have yet to run into the problem again. This leads me to believe that there is a software issue (would also make sense why only Verizon phones seem to be affected) and not a hardware issue. I heard that google is going to release a 'clean' version of the S4 rom when they launch their carrier-less S4. I may just wait till that phone is released and flash that and see what happens.
I'm flashing mine to stock and doing a factory reset right now. Hoping it fixes the issue for now.

I wanted to add my own experience. I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 -- SCH-I545. I managed to fix the disconnection problem by using a static IP address on the phone side since the work router serves up the same one to my device every time, so I'm not causing collisions (and I don't have control of the router at work). I was getting 'failed to get IP address' messages when the connection dropped. See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42172004&postcount=29
However, reading other posts about the antenna issue, I'm starting to think that it might just be that. I'm about 20 feet equidistant from 2 wireless routers at work, and using the *#197328640 hidden menu, then Menu button, then WiFi, my RSSI goes from -68 to -74 and goes up to about -52 to -55 when I'm about 3 feet from the AP I'm associated with. Does that seem low? According to what I've googled it seems like it is low...
---
And to think I was about to give up on contacting Samsung because they refused to acknowledge my Bluetooth issue here:

With the BT issue I've done extensive troubleshooting and pretty sure it's not a software issue (at least not other apk's interfering) but possibly the bluetooth implementation or drivers itself.
:sigh: Now I'm going to have to test with the other S4 to see I get the same WiFi signal strength, at least at home, anyway.
So update for me, took mine to Verizon and they swapped it out. This one gets a great wifi signal.

Judging by your earlier numbers mine is fine. I compared it to an S3 and another Verizon S4 and both have about the same RSSI +/ 5 of each other at the same point at home... so the issue I'm facing is probably just related to the router at work I have no control over.

Wrong time on phone while using maps, gps.

Hello,
My problem is that when I am using GPS navigation on my phone, whether on Waze app, or google maps.
For example real time could be 1:00pm, and while driving the gps screen would turn to night mode and the time on my phone would be some time at night.
I took some screen shots today, I uploaded them to my google drive because I dont know how to shrink them to post them here.
first one is using Waze app
, real true time on phone is 8:50AM, if you look at the arrival time on the bottom it says 4:09PM in 20 minutes.
Second one is using google maps, true time is 2:24pm, but the screen is on night mode.
These screen shots were taken before the time on the phone also changed to some time at night.
I hope my links work.
Could this be because of an issue with the GPS?
Anyone else experienced this?
I have seen numerous examples of the time being wrong in my g3. In each case, it is set to network-sourced time zone and time. The time zone will display correctly, but the time will be in the future by several hours.
When this happens, I normally disable network time, set the time manually.
Both mine and my wife's g3 have been doing this daily for the last week in the greater-Seattle area. Toggling airplane mode fixes it temporarily. Very annoying but will have to turn off the network time I guess.

I'm in Seattle, too. Maybe it's a local problem?
Seattle user here too. I live in Lake Stevens and its usually fine until I pass lake Washington. Once in Seattle proper I'm pretty much screwed with bad time till I clear the area and bounce the radio. Very frustrating as it jacks up my SMS message order.
Sounds like we should give em a ring to see what's up. The next question is whether its happening to all devices.

This might help you guys, I'm in LA and both my friend's and my G3 works fine when using GPS. Nothing weird to report, seems like a problem with the Seattle towers. Keep us updated.
Yeah it happened twice to me, the first time I noticed I was going downtown from the north, and I noticed that it happened when I passed around the UW area. The second time I used GPS this time I was going north from the south and it got messed up when I was driving by Boeing field.
That was last week, today I tried it again and it was all good, but this time I am running the jasmine ROM, this is weird.
Time on this phone messed up. As I switch time zones it freaks out and I have to bounce the radios.
Seattle here as well: This has been driving me insane and even caused my alarm to not go off. LG said I needed to ship it back to them because it may be a hardware issue, leaving me phone-less for 2 weeks.
Not only does it screw up my time, but whenever I set time to manual, it does not save that setting and eventually switching back to network time.
Does anyone have a solution?!
Seattle!
Commuting from Burien to Downtown Seattle here. My husband and I have been experiencing time zone change daily for weeks since we got the phones. Mine jumps ahead exactly 7 hours when I go to work, resets itself eventually or I reset it manually, then 7 hours again when I come home. I can't rely on my phone as a clock/alarm/scheduler anymore which is one of the main things most people use their phones for! My SMS texts are also getting mixed up because the time stamp changes and the messages show up out of order. The really annoying thing is that even when I reset it manually and uncheck the automatic detection settings it just undoes my choices and rechecks the boxes. This is not something that is just a minor annoyance, this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. This is the first thread I've found with anyone describing exactly my problem and it makes a strong case for it being Seattle specific. How can we move forward with this information?
I'm having the same problem in Indianapolis. My gf has had the problem for a month or so, but mine was fine. I updated to the new firmware, and I suddenly started having the same problem. Mine is rooted, hers is not. It does seem to be tower specific because as I drove around town this morning, my time changed 4 times.
With any luck, I may have gotten VZW's attention via twitter. If others could tweet to @VZWSupport it might help confirm the problem.
