Wrong time on phone while using maps, gps. - Verizon LG G3

Hello,
My problem is that when I am using GPS navigation on my phone, whether on Waze app, or google maps.
For example real time could be 1:00pm, and while driving the gps screen would turn to night mode and the time on my phone would be some time at night.
I took some screen shots today, I uploaded them to my google drive because I dont know how to shrink them to post them here.
first one is using Waze app
, real true time on phone is 8:50AM, if you look at the arrival time on the bottom it says 4:09PM in 20 minutes.
Second one is using google maps, true time is 2:24pm, but the screen is on night mode.
These screen shots were taken before the time on the phone also changed to some time at night.
I hope my links work.
Could this be because of an issue with the GPS?
Anyone else experienced this?

I have seen numerous examples of the time being wrong in my g3. In each case, it is set to network-sourced time zone and time. The time zone will display correctly, but the time will be in the future by several hours.
When this happens, I normally disable network time, set the time manually.

Both mine and my wife's g3 have been doing this daily for the last week in the greater-Seattle area. Toggling airplane mode fixes it temporarily. Very annoying but will have to turn off the network time I guess.

I'm in Seattle, too. Maybe it's a local problem?

Seattle user here too. I live in Lake Stevens and its usually fine until I pass lake Washington. Once in Seattle proper I'm pretty much screwed with bad time till I clear the area and bounce the radio. Very frustrating as it jacks up my SMS message order.
Sounds like we should give em a ring to see what's up. The next question is whether its happening to all devices.

This might help you guys, I'm in LA and both my friend's and my G3 works fine when using GPS. Nothing weird to report, seems like a problem with the Seattle towers. Keep us updated.

Yeah it happened twice to me, the first time I noticed I was going downtown from the north, and I noticed that it happened when I passed around the UW area. The second time I used GPS this time I was going north from the south and it got messed up when I was driving by Boeing field.
That was last week, today I tried it again and it was all good, but this time I am running the jasmine ROM, this is weird.

Time on this phone messed up. As I switch time zones it freaks out and I have to bounce the radios.

Seattle here as well: This has been driving me insane and even caused my alarm to not go off. LG said I needed to ship it back to them because it may be a hardware issue, leaving me phone-less for 2 weeks.
Not only does it screw up my time, but whenever I set time to manual, it does not save that setting and eventually switching back to network time.
Does anyone have a solution?!

Seattle!
Commuting from Burien to Downtown Seattle here. My husband and I have been experiencing time zone change daily for weeks since we got the phones. Mine jumps ahead exactly 7 hours when I go to work, resets itself eventually or I reset it manually, then 7 hours again when I come home. I can't rely on my phone as a clock/alarm/scheduler anymore which is one of the main things most people use their phones for! My SMS texts are also getting mixed up because the time stamp changes and the messages show up out of order. The really annoying thing is that even when I reset it manually and uncheck the automatic detection settings it just undoes my choices and rechecks the boxes. This is not something that is just a minor annoyance, this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. This is the first thread I've found with anyone describing exactly my problem and it makes a strong case for it being Seattle specific. How can we move forward with this information?

I'm having the same problem in Indianapolis. My gf has had the problem for a month or so, but mine was fine. I updated to the new firmware, and I suddenly started having the same problem. Mine is rooted, hers is not. It does seem to be tower specific because as I drove around town this morning, my time changed 4 times.

With any luck, I may have gotten VZW's attention via twitter. If others could tweet to @VZWSupport it might help confirm the problem.

3g cutting in and out

My fiance listens to xm and pandora all day while working and he has noticed his 3g cutting in and out for the past couple of days.
It happens randomly sometimes for a few seconds to a few mins. The phone stays in the same spot and earlier in the week it had no problems. To temporally fix it he either unlocks the phone or has to reopen xm or pandora. He does have it connected to a charger while listening.
We both run kaos v39 with the newest radio and open gls. The only thing i remember doing was i downloaded a program called green battery but uninstalled it after a min.
I also switched from gsm to cdma prl on both phones
My phone seems to be fine but then again i dont listen to pandora and xm a lot.
Is there a different setting i can change or something. Thank u for any help.

Try this: Install a market app called "APN OnOff". Launch it. Choose "Show APN list". Press Menu and then "Reset to default". Reboot the phone and see if that helps.
He said even with that it still does it. Is there anything else i can try?

I've been experiencing something similar the last few days. It will start on 3G, then for a few seconds it will switch to 1X, and then switch back. It hasn't really affected my daily activities, but I definitely notice it.
EDIT: In addition to 3G abnormally going in and out, my signal has been unusually low as well.
I occasionally get the 3G to 1X. I just end up rebooting my phone and all is well but I don't think just doing that is a permanent fix.
Btw running CELB 4.3 if that helps

Add me to that list. I was previously (up until about a week ago) Tethering to my Netbook and streaming Netflix with No Problems, No choppiness, Full screen. Now I am lucky to be able to watch Netflix at all, small screen, or for that matter Load webpages in a reasonable amount of Time. Anyone Think they are Throttling the connections now that Iphones are coming Online to the Network and are trying to keep a handle on Traffic and perhaps avoid the same Issues ATT had with the Iphones, Dragging the Network to a screeching Halt. Anyway Contract is up in March and decided I will defect to Sprint or Tmobile. Never had issues with Tmobile in my area and may return to them on the G2 or the Mytouch 4G. Just my 2 Cents for what it is Worth.

Makes sense to me. It wouldn't surprise me if it's true. OTOH, several months ago I noticed severely decreased tethering experience and then out of the blue a month or so ago it started working much better for about a week. Now, though, it's back to the same old stuff. This was all with the same ROM and always with occasional reboots except when tethering never once gave out.
I'm basically always leaning slightly one way or another as to believing conspiracy theories or just chalking it up to things beyond anyone's control.

[Q] Just frustration

Well I woke up this morning and had a few texts and I replied well my replies were coming 2 hrs before the original msg was recieved and it showed up before the recieved one. Then it sent me 2 hrs back in Pacific time which I live in Iowa and my phone says im in Seattle. The weather lockscreen, maps, weatherbug widget all say Im in Seattle. Then I did a factory reset it took me to my right location for about a hr then right back to Seattle. So I took it to a local store and they swapped me out for a brand new one. Everything was fine until I downloaded the HTC update and now Im back in Seattle again, time is 2 hrs behind to obviously, and now I cant get the phone icon for the lockscreen its not even in the list. And it was working before I did that update but afterwards nope, and as far as I knew that update was to fix the phone icon problem like the 3rd day it was out. This is my 3rd phone and pretty tired of the problems. I love the phone but with these problems idk. Anybody have any ideas?

Hey man. I understand your frustrations. Sometimes the little quirks and bugs that come during the early life / launch time of a device can be irritating. I wouldn't say that the location problem is actually with the phone, but rather with Sprint's network. I've had that happen on my Evo 4g, my roomate has had it happen on his Shift, and my girl has also had it happen to her Evo. I really don't think it's specific to the phone, hence the reason you had it happen on the previous and current phone. I never took any OTA updates, so never had the phone icon problem. From what I remember reading back when the phone launched, a factory reset was supposed to take care of it.
In the meantime, I would go to menu>settings>date & time, then uncheck 'automatic'. Then manually enter the date, time zone, and set the time. Leave it like that for a day or so, and then set it back to automatic. That's what I've done each time I had the problem in the past, and that always took care of it. I'm not sure what causes it, but it's not phone specific.
I would just stick it out and try your best to deal with the minor things for now. We are very close to getting S-off, at which time the devs of xda can iron out the quirky bugs that HTC left in the stock ROM. Also, HTC is usually pretty good with releasing OTA updates for bug fixes. Once we have full root with recovery, all we'll have to do is wait for a dev to go through the OTA and package it up in a safe to flash zip, and not worry about losing root while staying up to date. Keep your 3d man.
Thanks, ya I did the profile update then restart, when it started back up my weather lockscreen had the right location but weatherbug, maps, were still Seattle. I hit the power button then woke it right back up and the lockscreen says I'm right back in Seattle. Within a min it switched on me. It just seems weird to me my 2nd one I had it for like 3 weeks and no problems till this morning then the brand new replacement does the same thing within 3 hrs. Maybe I will just factory reset again then DON'T install the firmware update

If I have wireless location on with wifi, my location will almost always be way wrong too. It would be nice if there was a setting that would prevent it from using wifi to determine location. If i'm connected to my home wifi connection and I turn on wireless location, it'll put me in San Diego (1500 miles from where I live), and my time will go back 2 hours. If I turn wifi off, it will put me within a mile or two of where I live.

I have been getting this too. Probably 4 times since I activated it. Probably has to do with 3g connectivity. Now the 3g at my house where I have seen this problem has always been terrible but not to the point of losing connection. Hmmmm.

I only turned off automatic time zone. I'll let you know if that fixed it, or if I need to turn off the auto time too. My decision was based upon the fact that the alert kept asking me to pick my time zone, so I thought maybe that was the only issue.

I haven't had an issue yet today, I don't know if it fixed itself or what.

I think the issue is that maybe network timezone is new and/or sprint isn't broadcasting it. So when it goes to get network time zone it bugs out. So best fix is to turn off auto timezone

I'm still getting this error from receiving the phone day one from my sprint pre-order.... very annoying. I get it on 3g and wifi.
Yes!! And even worse, they don't properly have Central US time zone. Mislabeled as Central America. I tried it once and it did goof up my time. Still getting it a couple times a day.
I had issues with this on the OG as well, but only when I actually went into another timezone. Text messages would show four hours in the future, that continues on the eLte
Mine would tell me it couldn't setbthr time zone a couple times per day, but seems to have stopped on its own. I did update profile a couple of times, not sure if that had anything to do with it or not.

Turn off automatic time zone. Solved the problem for me, entirely.
I'm in the Central Time Zone and have also seen this on occasion, both on 3G and on WiFi. Typically I just clear the notification. Once I disabled and re-enabled the automatic time zone and that cleared the notice as well.
It's more of an annoyance than anything. Doesn't seem to affect anything that I've noticed.
I run into this issue every time I travel. I'd guess to say it seems to happen after the phone has been on a non sprint tower, then reconnects back to sprint.
One of the many bugs that need to be worked out. If you have time/patience, contact HTC/sprint (in that order) and document the issue.
i am having the same issue as well

Nah, sounds like you have a lemon. I've been on GPS non-stop since I got here to San Diego, and it works perfectly every time. The wifi is also rock solid in my hotel.
Have you tried a factory reset to see if changes anything?

yeah I did a reset.
I did some research and it seems the GPS issue could be related to my router and google thinking the MAC is in a different location. When the phone is off wifi, the GPS seems to work fine.
I am not sure what is up with the wifi though.
I've had mine since Friday with none of those issues..good luck..just take it back and swap it for a new one .

No issues at all. Been flawless....
I have noticed everything is improved over the One X. Voice quality, speed, etc. I can tell project butter is in play as I have a Galaxy Nexus (gsm) and notice similarities.
Wifi can be a router setting issue. The local thing I did notice with some older HTC devices. Make sure you have all the GPS setting turned on and restart the phone outside. If it keeps doing this I would simply exchange.
Problem here too
My husband and I got two HTC One X+'s last Saturday. - Same problem. With certain location settings, we are sent to Chantilly, VA (to an AT&T store location, I believe). We live 450 miles away in NC.
One scenario: If we uncheck the 3rd Location option in settings (google search..) and keep the first two checked. If we leave the phone sitting for a little while, google maps will come up at our location, then it swings up to Chantilly, VA and stays there for 3-5 seconds, and then swings back down to us in NC.
If we also check the 3rd Location option in settings, it will stay in Virginia.
On Tuesday, I called HTC Support 4 times, trying to figure this out. I've done a factory reset.
Since it looks like it's going to an AT&T center, we've wondered if the phones were sitting there for a while, generating entries in the Google database? Any possibility that the phone also has some sort of internal database?
I'll probably call HTC again tomorrow and I'm at the point where I can have this escalated to a developer. Depending on the answers, I may go to the AT&T store, -- have them open another phone (if they have some in stock) and see how Maps behaves out of the box.

UPDATE: We made a trip yesterday, 1.5 hours away. The GPS and cell location services worked fine! It was not until we got within range of our cell phone tower, just up the street from us, or within range of our wireless, that the phone thought it was back in Chantilly, VA. Turning GPS on fixed this.
I don't think there's anything wrong with our router or cell tower -- my old Galaxy phone has no trouble at all with location. Ditto for my Nexus 7 tablet.
We've left GPS on, and it's looking like the phone is slowly learning that our router and cell phone tower are not located at the AT&T store in Chantilly. It definitely looks like traveling around with the phone helped to give it more info about where we are.
It seems like maybe the original image put on the phone inadvertently had location info? Or there's some sort of internal database with location info that doesn't get wiped when you do a factory reset? HTC is going to be running into some problems with this -- I can't believe that we have the only phones with this problem to overcome.
Does anyone know more about how location services are handled?

Location is once again stuck in VA. Spoke to HTC earlier today, terrible support person, trying again.
Called HTC support again last night. The person said that this was a known issue and a fix will be getting sent out at some point. - Though there is a possibility that she was just trying to get rid of me. Whatever I asked, she just said yes.
I'd love to hear from other folks who feel that the HOX+ is working flawlessly for them. No problems at all? Thanks!

Whenever I am on LTE, the GPS works flawlessly. I determined I only have problems on wifi networks.
most android GPS has some dependencies on the interwebs. Time to acquire fix depends quite a bit on having the right time (meaning NTP). So if you just walked into a starbucks and picked up wifi but havent completed negotiating yet, GPS may be making an NTP query that will stall. That sort of thing. There are quite a few silly little situations that can make for long fix times.
For what it's worth, the HOX+ has pretty fantastic GPS on the whole. I threw on GPS for giggles, and got a fix in 4 seconds as measured by the app ("GPS Status on the market has a "time to fix" option). Initial error was 10m and quickly went down to 5m or so. I'm on the bottom story of a 2 story house with an attic, and not near a window. Compared to my old HTC Inspire (American Desire HD), it's fairly insane. This is through 100 year old wood and nails with zero line of sight to the sky, and a neighbor living above me. So if your GPS is skipping around in standard car/travel GPS situations, there may be another issue.

Clock jumps 4 hours

This is the first I have seen of this issue.
My clock jumps 4 hours as soon as the lock screen comes on. But if the screen stays on then the clock stays the correct time. But as soon as I put on the lock screen, it jumps 4 hours ahead. I have auto time and time zone turned on and I travel all over the US without issues. My only fix right now is manual settings of the time zone and time.
The only thing I did was go from Philly to Indy. Nothing else changed nor any apps were updated or downloaded. I have cleared the cache and data on the lock screen and clock. No go.

It is a problem with the towers in Indy. It looks like it only happens with the G3. I have contacted Verizon about this and they aren't acknowledging the issue. They said it is an issue with my SIM card, but when I travel anywhere else, this time issue does not happen on my phone. There was a previous thread about this issue and it looks like people in Seattle have the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/help/wrong-time-phone-using-maps-gps-t2904900
Thanks. I thought I might of missed something. I did a factory reset since I had free time at work and that did not solve the issue for those who wanted to know if a factory reset works.

There was a previous thread about this issue and it looks like people in Seattle have the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/help/wrong-time-phone-using-maps-gps-t2904900

Interesting. The one time I had this issue was traveling through Indy.
Glad I'm not the only one here in Indy. Like I mentioned, I was in San Fran, NJ, Philly, Phoenix, Dallas and NH all without issue in the past three weeks. Now all of a sudden, I'm in Indy and this happens. Kinda sucks but out of my hands. I have no control over this.
Sent from my VZW LG G3 (tapatalk)
Anyone know of anything we can do to get this documented with Verizon? There are at least 3 people in this thread from Indy and I know of two more myself. I guess this is limited to the G3?
I work in Indianapolis and my G3 also has the same problem. Over the weekends when I am home (Brownsburg) I very rarely have any issues. It always seems to jump ahead when I get to work on Mondays. Really, the main reason this is such a pain is that it puts my text messages out of order. I was hoping the new update last week would of fixed it.
With any luck, I may have gotten VZW's attention via twitter. If others could tweet to @VZWSupport it might help confirm the problem. Thanks
