how do i make my gtab stock again. i rooted it and im running it on a 3.2 custom rom but want to make it stock 3.2 rom and unroot it
Did you take a nandroid backup before rooting? If so, restore that in CWM.
Else find any stock Odin Rom and flash using Odin.

i would like to know how to do this aswell
I don't always subscribe to the "search the forums" approach, but if you are smart enough to find the instructions to root and install a custom ROM, you are capable of finding unrooting instructions without creating a new thread. Hint: the instructions to unroot are immediately after the instructions on how to root...

Hi I am very new in the android world. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2. I would like to prove custom ROMS and I have followed a lot of steps to prepare my device for this. I have download ROMMANAGER to backup my actual ROM (I would like to get it). I have flashed my recovery with ROMMANAGER and when I am going to do my backup my phone restart and get the following error:
-- Installing package...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
My phone has this elements:
Android Version: 2.3.4
Version: I9100XXKI1
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575468 [email protected]#2
Compilation: Gingerbread.XWKI4
Please, I need some help to solve it because I can go into the next step and I would like to prove a lot of things in my new phone.
Thanks in advance!
You could try to install cwm with cf-root but this should be in Q&A section

Any amount of searching would have told you that you can't install CWM recovery with ROM manager on the I9100, therefore you have stock (3e) recovery.
FORUM RULES
1. Search before posting.
Hi! Thanks for your answers.

Perhaps I have written this thread in the wrong place, but (I know that is difficult to belive) but I have search for a time for my problem solution and I haven´t be able to find a thread that I can use to help me (I say that I can´t find, I am sure that is my fault).
So, I am very sorry if this disturb someone, please forgive me.
In another way, a little help with my problem??
What means "you can't install CWM recovery with ROM manager on the I9100, therefore you have stock (3e) recovery.
What can I do to get my rom backup?
Thanks in advance!
If I read your OP right, it seems you have installed Rom Manager on your phone in the first instance, without rooting it first. Am I correct ?
If that's the case, it won't work. Rom Manager only works on rooted phones, normally to do this you'd probably use CFRoot to root your phone. However, if you root your phone using CFRoot, this will install CW Recovery, which as Oinky has quite rightly pointed out is not compatible with Rom Manager. Rom Manager tends to break CW Recovery.
So what you need to do is root your phone. And you need to decide which method you want to use to root your phone. If you really want to use Rom Manager you'll probably need to use Zegrush or SuperOneClick (anyone feel free to jump in & say/correct me if either of these installs CW or won't work for whatever reason) to root your phone rather than CFRoot.
On the other hand, if you're happy to go without Rom Manager and want a quick and easy way to root your phone, then CFRoot is the go. This will give you CW Recovery, and all you have to do in order to flash roms & kernels/make backups & restore is to boot into CW Recovery.
As Oinky has suggested, you definitely have a lot of reading to do, do a search for CFRoot, Zergrush & SuperOneClick on here.

Thanks MistahBungle for your answers. Perhaps I didn´t describe the problem very well... Sorry! Anyway, I have rooted my phone with "Unlock root" aplication.
After this, I backup my efs folder, and my aplications with titanium backup.
Now is the moment I would like to backup my actual ROM. For this I would like to use ROMMANAGER (because is the suggestion of the forum I followed).
I did the recovery flash manager ok, but when I tried to do my BACKUP ACTUAL ROM my device rebooted and give me the mensage that I have told in my first post.
Thats my situation. I would like to backup my ROM and prove another one, but if I had any problem with my SGS2 I would like to have all my backups to restore before go to the tecnichal service.
Any idea?
Thanks!
OK cool. I understand now
Sorry, I don't use Rom Manager so I can't help you with your problem. I rooted my phone with CFRoot & have always used CW Recovery (and Titanium/kTool) for my backups. Hopefully someone comes along soon who has experience with Rom Manager & can help you with your problem.

AS suggested, ROM manager is not compatible. Get rid of it. Flash any CF-root CWM kernel .tar with Odin.
Ie. Chainfire CF-root or siyahkernel
All problems solved and nandroid backups and restore capable.

Hi! I did it! I have installed this morning my first stock rom and my first custom rom. All works ok.
Thanks for the information.
I have a question (if I have to open another post, please tell me). I have installed one custom rom but I don´t like so much so I would like to try UltraToxic rom. I know that I have to start installing a stock rom before, and after install UltraToxic 8.2 by Odin. My question is that I don´t know if I have to install again the CF-KERNEL that I installed before when I installed my first custom rom. Is this kernerl overwritten by the custom rom kernel?
Thanks a lot !
Yes. If you install a custom rom it will overwrite your existing kernel with whatever kernel is packaged with the rom. If you really prefer the CFRoot kernel, you can reflash this over the top of whatever kernel is installed when you flash the rom (or you could flash one of the other kernels you can find on XDA). That's up to you.

Thanks for your quick answer. I will do it again. I will install again CF-KERNEL due to I don´t know very well how kernel works and if one kernel is for one specific rom, so I will recover my old kernel and then I will install again the another rom.
Could you recommend me a good rom to install? I would like your opinion, if you consider it ok.
Thanks
No, you don't "have to". Custom ROM will come with a CWM root kernel, CF-root, speedmod, Siyah, etc...
You can flash back CF-root if you wish, but don't "have to".
Just be aware that nandroid backups made with a particular version of CWM may not restore with another version. Ie. 4.xxx -> 5.xxx
Now you have root, make sure you have EFS filler backed up. Many ways to do it;
Hellcat ktool
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool
Or,
GS2 Repair
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.helroz.GSII_Repair
You'll have an expensive alarm clock if your IMEI ever gets corrupted, so store the backup on a PC too.

I have backup my efs folder from my original ROM. Do I need do it again? Do my efs folder change every time that I flash a rom?
Another question is that with CriskeloRom and UltratoxicRom I have a problem with Titanium Backup and it is that I can´t restore every data that I have backup because in any part of the restore Titanium Backup gets into an infinitive loop and does nothing.
What could be the problem?
Thanks for this new information! This is a great forum ! Thanks for support!

No, EFS won't change unless corrupted. So you won't have to backup EFS every time.
As post above, aas general rule, don't restore system apps and data (red)., especially across different ROM and Android versions.

Greetings xda,
I wanted to COME back to complete 100% warranty from my current Custom Rom using a stock nandroid backup, after skimming the entire SGA Forum, I couldn’t find an all-in-one thread whichs contains a guide to regain 100% warranty including stock firmware, stock recovery, Unroot. I was even told that recovering to back to a stock backup is not possible if you have used an ext4 custom ROM. So I decided to handle this on my own. I hope you find this handy.
Flashing using odin might be easier but I bought my Ace from an Arabic region and i got the JPKP9 firmware. Unfortunately ,most samsung firmware websites lack the MODEM file of the firmware. So in order to address the issue I made this guide to enable people to restore their stock roms from a nandroid backup. Hence, THIS DOES NOT REQUIRE ODIN.
Table of Contents:
A). Requirements
B). Procedure
C). Tests
D). Credits
A). Requirements:
- Samsung Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830) [rooted]
- A stock firmware backup (you might have created this before flashing roms)
- eu.chainfire.cfroot.ext4manager-1.apk*
- Clockworkmod 5 *
- Stock Recovery files *
- Unroot.zip*
*: Inside “WarrantyRegain-UsmanJ.rar” (don’t extract the .zip files)
B). Procedure:
Step 1: Download the “WarrantyRegain-UsmanJ.rar” from HERE.
Step 2: Install the eu.chainfire.cfroot.ext4manager-1.apk file which you downloaded. Run the “ext4” application you installed, it might give you an error if you are not using CF-Root but don’t mind it. Scroll down and click “Convert to rfs”. Your mobile will boot into recovery, Wait for 10-20minutes as it will change the format of System, Data and Cache partition to rfs. Once over, your mobile will restart.
Step 3:Now go to Recovery and head over to “Backup and Restore” and and restore using the stock firmware backup you have. This will take approximately 3-5 minutes. One you have finished: Reboot phone. Congratulations, you have done 60% of the warranty regain process.
Step 4: Once you have restored to Stock Firmware, it is time that you now restore to Stock Recovery. Boot into Recovery again and flash the “Stock_recovery_S5830_2.3.x._by_ingbrzy.zip” you have downloaded. Once you have successfully flashed. Go to Advanced and Reboot Recovery. Now you are in the Stock Recovery.
Step 5: Now flash the Unroot.zip file you have downloaded earlier. Once you have successfully flashed, reboot.
CONGRATULATIONS NOW YOU HAVE GAINED 100% TRUE WARRANTY: Stock Recovery, Stock Firmware and Unrooted.
C). Tests
This method is tested and proved successful on the following Custom ROMS:
- StockLite v6 by tj_droid
- CM 7.2 RC1 by vo-1 (update 26/3/12)
- Bound to work on most ROMs.
D).Credits:
- Ingrbzy: for Stock Recovery
- Gganon: for unroot.zip
- Chainfire and KPK: for ext4 support app (I extracted rfsmaker.zip from it)
- Me: For compiling this guide (Just Kidding )
Don’t Forget to hit the Thanks Button as this is my first MAJOR post on xda.
EDIT: All those people who saying flashing using odin in easier, then let me remind you, i bought my ace from an Arabic region and i got the JPKP9 firmware. Thank you very much for posting this solution.
After being awake all night i finally was able to restore my stock nandroid backup successfully thank to you.
And yes this method is important for those people who want to go back to what they previously had, in my case i updated my brothers Ace to JB 4.2.2 which after using for a while he asked me to revert it to what he had before{gingerbread} but sadly for me i didnt take any note of what kernel or rom his phone was running at that time and more importantly he needed all his whatsapp messages and other important data.
I only knew that he got his from uk but after going to samfirmwares i was unable to understand which firmware to download due to my little mistake making me more hesitant on what to do.
Finally after searching i found your thread and was able to restore the backup within 15 min
there are no words to describe how thank full i am to you for posting this thread

Hi guys,
Firstly apologises in advance, I'm using my phone to browse so trying to navigate what I need to know.
I be using this guide to root, I read it several times and it makes sense for me.
Before I root though and this is a huge factor, is there anyway I can save all my current apps and restore them after flashing a new rom?. I know titantium backup does this but you need to be rooted to achieve this and before you root I understand you need to have a clean wipe for the phone which I haven't done yet since I'm hesistant reinstalling the apps all again 1 by 1.
Thanks

You can use that guide, sure. But I find CF-root to be even easier, as you don't need to use an outside application. Just flash the CF-root kernel for your build of android. Done.

Thanks, I'm still new to this trying to understand everything before rooting.
So backup efs?, what is it and does exactly.
I was under the impression that once I should pick the kernel closest in the about section?.
you will only be able to backup EFS after the rooting...
first Root with Cf-root then the first thing you do EFS back using Ktool (search on google play)
You'll be amazed how easy it is once you've done it (I did it a couple of weeks ago). It's all available right here.
Pay particular attention to this when choosing the kernel:
Listen closely, for I will say zis only once!
Go to Settings -> About phone -> Kernel Version. Note the string present there:
2.6.35.7-I9100XXKG1-CL349526
What matters most (KG1) in this case, is in bold. Try to find the matching file under downloads:
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4.zip

Good luck dude, let us know if you have any questions.
Thanks UK, so CF root it shall be:
Instructions - ODIN (short)
- Flash CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar (from the attached zip) as PDA in ODIN, without repartition. Done.
Correct?
Then how does one flash a rom?.
Yes, you flash the TAR file in Odin.
Flashing ROMs comes after you have rooted. First, you put your desired ROM zip in the root of your internal sdcard. Then once you have installed a CF-Root kernel, your device will have ClockworkMod (CWM) Recovery. You access this by holding Power+Home+Volume (Up) until your phone reboots into recovery mode. Then you simply follow the instructions to flash the ROM (read instructions from the developer and always backup).
^Well that's for custom ROMs. If you're talking stock Samsung ROMs, there are many guides around for installing those.

Ok makes sense.
So flash tar file with Odin giving me Root Access.
Grab the desired Rom, so for example MIUI then can you elaborate on the kernel. Because this is the one things that bothers me the most because I can't get my head around it.
From reading I need to get the kernel closest to the one on my about phone info correct?.
Yes that's right. As in the example, where the kernel version says I9100XXKG1, you find a similar one based on the KG1 kernel.
Ok all makes sense, thanks for all the help.

You should read the guides and faqs everything is posted .
EFS is a backup that allows you to restore your phones EFS folder that contains the IMEI for your phone . Its rare but possible that flashing may break IMEI leading to no network connection .

It's always a good idea to backup - search on the market for some of the best solutions. But honestly, I just winged it the first time I rooted with CF-Root, and went without backup. It's up to you.
But after you have rooted get kTool off the market and back up EFS, put it in the cloud or on your computer so you don't lose it.
Custom ROMs normally require a full data wipe first time flashing, so get titanium backup pro and backup all your apps from there.

I still have a few questions before rooting my phone for the first time.
1) if i root 2.3.6 using the right kernel, Can i still install an ics custom rom like resurrection?
2) if i root stock 4.0.3 Poland version or argentinian version, final result of installing a new custom Rom is gonna be the same because it completely replace the first one?
3) what's the difference between nandroid backup and cwm way to backup custom rom? Do i need to keep my backup inside the phone in order to unbrick it tomorrow, or may i just store it on my notebook and delete it from the phone?
Thanks a lot!!

1) Rooting is just to give you access to CWM.. ergo the ability to install custom ROMS so you can install ROMS after rooting
2) When you flash a new ROM (which is rooted) then you dont have to bother about what did you did before that..
3) If i'm not mistaken CWM only allows u to do a nandroid backup.. And if u want to restore to the backup ( in ur case unbrick :silly U need to have that in ur sd card :good:
Happy rooting.. Happy flashing..
1) Follow whatever instructions the rom you're wanting to use has to the letter.
2) If you install a custom rom, then yes, obviously it will replace any stock rom you flash it over the top of.
3) A CWM backup is a Nandroid backup. It's the same thing. You can store your backups wherever you want. I have my 4 most recent Nandroids on my phone, and I have every backup I've ever done on my phone stored on my PC (and another copy on an external drive I use for backups). So I guess the question you're asking is, can I take a Nandroid backup from ages ago stored on my PC, put it on my phone & restore it. Am I right ? If that's what you're asking, the answer is yes.
Thanks. Actually i was asking in case my phone bricks after installing a new rom. I guess i won't be able to come it back to life if i don t have the backup in the phone.
And one more thing. What is efs backup. Do I also need to do it?
Thanks

Yes. The 2nd thing you should do after your root your phone (first thing is do a Nandroid backup) is to get kTool from Google Play & backup your EFS. Before you install another rom or kernel do both of those.
Keep a copy on your external sdcard & keep another copy on your PC. Just in case you ever need it. We get quite a few people on here every week with IMEI/EFS details gone & most don't have EFS backups.
thanks!
I forgot to ask, is there any real risk at using triangle away app? So far, is it working on any kernel? thanks

I've actually used that app a few times well (about 5) and haven't had any issues but once you get CWM installed and you flash kernels through it you won't get the yellow triangle.

There will always be a risk when using anything that manupulates root access, but triangle away is quite safe, as for what kernel if works on, most kernel threads will say if it is compatiable or not, but only with ICS kernels, not GB kernels.
"...once you get CWM installed and you flash kernels through it you won't get the yellow triangle."
What do you mean by that? I actually don´t need to use the app, because triangle will dissapear anyway after flashing a Kernel?

You will still have the triangle after flashing a new rom or kernel, the best way to get rid of it is triagle away, this app will also reset your flash counter.
Once you get a working CWM, let's say you're using Cyanogenmod 9 and you want to flash over the stock kernel.
You'd put the kernel file on the memory of the device (sdcard) and boot in CWM recover and flash from there and you won't get the triangle.
The triangle won't go away now if you unless you use a USB jig or the triangle away app. So get rid of the triangle now and when you want to try a new kernel flash it through CWM and the triangle won't appear. Flash a kernel through download mode and you'll get the triangle.

Fixing permissions is automatic I believe in CWM recovery. It's an option in the recovery menu. Remember to wipe data and cache (dalvik too) when flashing a next rom or else you won't be able to boot.

Thanks for the info mate
By the way, you should really just buy a USB Jig off eBay for a few quid, it resets the custom binary counter (on old bootloaders) and can also force your phone into download mode after a bad flash. Handy to have around. Also, now that you have rooted your phone, download EFS Pro (found here on XDA) and back up your EFS folder before any flashing. Lose this folder and your in serious trouble!

Hi! When rooting or flashing a custom rom or kernel, do I lose internal sd card content?
Where is the EFS folder I need to backup?
Thanks!
