I've heard conflicting information regarding this, glad to hear it works! I bought one on Amazon a week ago, can't wait for it to get here!
Was curious which one you ended up buying specifically, since it seems to take weeks for shipment, would rather be certain.

This is the one I had got. It took less then 2 weeks to come in I believe.

The real curiosity here is if the cable/drive will be recognized in recovery... that way we can store ROMs/Kernels/etc. if and when we are able to unlock the DNA.

BTW, to the cable linked above, if you look at other sellers, there is one from NY... it's a bit more expensive, but still under $2. Look for the merchant called ExertaTech.
I partitioned USB thumb drive to exFAT, loaded a 16GB movie, plugged into my DNA, and can't recognize the drive. Did I partition with wrong part ion scheme? FAT limits me at 4GB so I chose exFAT... NTFS better?

NTFS is always better, but it really depends on what the DNA will support - and I've a sneaking suspicion it'll only support FAT32.
I don't have my DNA yet so can't try the theory out, but format it to NTFS and see if it gets recognised - then try the same with FAT32.
I can't really see any justification in using 16Gb for a single movie though; have you thought about re-compressing it into a h264-encoded file and using MoboPlayer to play it on the DNA?

Also as a side note... When I use my thumb drive, I seem to get alot of cascading Force Closes from a few applications.
You could also split it with mkvtoolnix or something. Not exactly as nice as having it as one file but it would work.

About to try it tonight, but I'm basically loading a movie out of my computer, didn't really feel like I have to prepare them. They're 1080p Blu-Ray rips at a very high bitrate, mkv DTS files. Samples play great (I can't even describe how amazing they look), no stuttering in VPlayer or Dice. I just wanted the whole movie, which is impossible to fit internally or using FAT32.
hmm... I don't even see FAT32 at this point... what's the path /storage ?

I bought that same cable and a new PNY 64GB flash drive. I can't get my phone to even recognize the drive is there. I reformatted the drive to each of the different formats with no results. Could I be missing a setting somewhere on the phone to get this to work? I also tried an 8GB drive thinking the new one may have been too big, but still no dice. Any ideas/thoughts?

I'm not sure. I do know my setup is a 8GB Sandisk formatted with fat32. The 8gb drive shows up in settings under "storage.
Also note that once the drive is removed, I get a bunch of FC from apps that may have added the USB drive as a build in storage.

Just curious, is it natively supported or is it a kernel tweak and Stick Mount? I use a OTG hub on my N7 and GN with StickMount and it usually works nicely.
Why not just invest an extra 3 bucks and get the app "Nexus Media Importer" from the app store? Then you can use any thumb drive *with* NTFS support. Works perfectly with my 64 gb Patriot Supersonic Magnum!

did you use this effectively? I downloaded the photo viewer to test it but that did not work for me either - so I didn't want to invest the 3 bucks on an app that doesn't solve my problem. I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm starting to believe that the problem is in the cable I'm using. I will try a different one and see what happens

I would guess that if the power consumption and size are the same for a larger drive then the answer would be yes. Check the specifications of the installed drive and see if any larger drives exist with the same power consuption and size....let us know what you find...i'm interested. Also, PocketPCTechs are known for updates of this sort. You might consider e-mailing them and asking if they plan on having a HD upgrade for the Athena and letting us know what they say.
I've only found a 4gig SDHC card. If you find something larger let us know this also.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the tilt sensor for the Vueflow is built into the hard drive.... So swapping it for another drive would prevent that from working.

What I settled for trying.
I found a 16Gb CompactFlash to replace the MicroDrive. Pricey... very pricey, but want to try that. Power comsumption is slighly lower, so I might see improvement. I will try to mirror the "drives" before inserting the CompactFlash. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Access time is much faster also. Can't wait to try to run a movie on a plasma. Finally an alternative to renting movies in hotels! For those interrested in the drive: http://www.flash-memory-store.com/16gb-compact-flash.html The Qmemory drive seems the most interresting one. 24Mb/s access... not even sure the south bridge on this device can access the drive that fast.

Thanks for the info. I didn't think the Athena used Compact Flash. I'm sure if we contact Hitachi support they will provide us with information on a larger drive. Maybe PocketPC Tech's will soon offer an upgrade. I would prefer having them do it with a warranty.
Maybe they don't make a larger MicroDrive...check out the site

Hitachi isn't the problem... the problem is the darn CE-ATA interface I didn't notice. Intel is heading the new standard, and the founding member? Hitachi. So far, no other drives then Hitachi's 3K8. Well, they have 2/4/6/8 Gb in sizes, nothing else. 10Gb was suppose to exist, but never saw light. Tough luck for now. Until 20Gb transflash sees light, no expansion. Why oh why HTC didn't you choose the standard CF interface? Looks like I'm returning a 16Gb CF card. :-S

Good that HTC installed from the beginning the max available capacity, not 2/4/6 GB.
That's another way of looking at it. It's positive... true. I guess if you are ultra conscious in the design also, shaving off a few milimeters and tenth of grams is immportant also.
Why do people keep referring to Transflash? Transflash was the standard that became MicroSD, I thought - the thumbnail sized cards. MiniSD is like the SD equivalent of the 1/2 MMC cards.

Uh, yeah, and you can put a Transflash into an SD card adaptor and use it in your camera, too, if you want expensive, slow, small amounts of memory.
I'm not saying that it's impossible to use Transflash in the device, but that people saying Transflash may be confused about what card slot the device has and buy the wrong memory. Or more importantly, people reading might think it has a MicroSD slot.
I use MicroSD aka Transflash because I can put them in all my devices 9sometimes using adapters obviously). Where SD or MiniSD wouldn't fit in a Motorola phone or Blackberry with Transflash (or MicroSD for the purists *grin*)
cheers! I love my Athena the way it is. I still feel the urge to tweak it though! ;-)
Memory is so cheap these days, I just get each device a card - especially since my Nokia's MiniSD card doesn't seem to be recognised by the Mac (I haven't tried it in the Athena yet). 4GB is only £40!
That looks like a 1" drive, like wots inside some iPods. Is it even smaller than that?

I can confirm that the 16GB card works fine, not sure about 32GB.
What would you put on the 32GB card to fill it up, lot's of movies? I have lots of apps, TomTom maps of the UK & USA, some movies & mp3's and still have plenty of room left over. Maybe in time I will look back and wish I purchased a 32GB but at the moment It's more than enough.

I would like a 32gb card because :
a) Since I can mount my phone as USB mass storage, it could replace my external USB drive (except it uses the FAT32 file system not NTFS)
b) I'm backpacking around Europe soon, so loading it up with movies, music & tv shows for all the long flights & train rides would be great.

Even when the 32GB cards come out, they will be relatively very expensive. It would be much cheaper to buy 2 16GB cards and swap-out when wanted. After all, you can swap cards easily enough if you only use them for media and avoid putting programs and other essential data on them. There's surely enough storage on board the D2 for all the progs you could want?
Then just stick, say, music on one card and video on the other. Swapping takes 30 seconds, maybe? The other benefit is if you get a card failure it's a lot less traumatic to your wallet.
@ root beer: It's very easy to fill up 32GB, a lot of people's music collection @ 320k takes up this space. Before you even consider videos etc

Agreed, i just bought a 16GB card for my TD2, but tried it in my old Touch Dual and it works fine, I was always advised that could only take 8GB.
What is the thing that like makes a limit for how much a device can take? I mean, there must be something.
Its the limitations of SD. Any device that is SD 2.0 Complient will work with upto 32GB wheras SD1.x devices will work with cards <2GB

Any news on the 32gb Micro SD card ?
hope it wil be a class 8 or 10
If the 32GB MicroSDHC card comes out anytime soon (Which I doubt), the first ones will be class 2 or 4 at best, and cost at least half-again as much as two 16GB cards. A single 16Gb card is $50 @ microcenter.com, so I predict once the 32GB's come out, they'll be at least $150 each.

My 16GB class 6 Adata card has been problematic when transferring larger files via the USB phone connection mode. If I remove the card and place it in a card reader it works perfectly.
YMMV, cause it might be my card or my system that causes such bugs. Just wanted to bring it to your attention.
hi, I'm looking to buy a 64GB MicroSDXC card
do they compatible with photon ?
can anybody who have them give some inputs ?
thank you.
No, the Photon only supports microSDHC, and like you said, the 64gb (also, anything over 32gb) is classified as microSDXC.
32gb + 16gb internal should be more than enough anyways, provided you use it wisely.
If you absolutely NEED that amount of space, some users were able to use the Photon as a USB host and attach an external USB flash stick using a special USB-F-MicroUSB-M

I've seen a couple reports that they work fine on the Photon, but more that they don't. And the Droid4 and Bionic are reported to work.

The current 64GB cards are generally backwards compatible with SDHC in a lot of devices.

I have a Sandisk 64 card - haven't tried it in my Photon, but it works fine in my Xoom and Cowon J3 MP3 player (linux).
So, I don't know for sure. (My Photon battery cover plastic clips won't take too many more removals or I'd try it)

the 64GB is the exact one I got her.
Cool - good to know, thanks for the post.
I figured it would work fine in the Photon since it seems to work in about everything else with a SDHC 3.0 compatible slot.
And I got my spare battery cover via eBay today, so may try it soon.

Let me better explain my "No big difference, so I went back" comment. I had a 16Gb SanDisk Class 4, I was happy. I got 32Gb SanDisk Class 6 for $100.00 and I was happy. I got Komputer 32Gb Class 10 for @ the same. When I compared them read/write, depending on what I was reading or writing, the SanDisk was either faster OR not that far behind, so I went back to SanDisk for the realiabilaty. I now have 64Gb SanDisk Class 6 and I'm happy (Kinda of, there is nothing on it? I either use Google or ZumoCast to acces my desktop at home?)
My suggestion, look for stability, look at the reviews where people smarter than I have done extensive testing. Not all chips are alike. Also, look at your needs. If you take a ton of pictures or video, I assume you would need high write speed. If your a gamer, I assume you would need high read speeds? Just me!
Thanks for the further explanation! I'll probably just pick up the class 6. It's getting rave reviews on Amazon.
Hey all. I recently went over to the LTE from my E3D. In my E3D I had a 64GB card that worked without issue. I bought it from Best Buy so I have no doubt of its authenticity. I have been using it on my LTE for a few days now, but today I had to get a brand new phone from Sprint for an unrelated issue. When I put the card onto this new LTE, it said it was blank and prompted me to format it, which I tried to do, but it said failed. After a few tries, it finally said that it worked, but now it says that there are only 27GB on the card, when I know it is a 64GB card. Both the phone and Windows is only seeing 27GB and it is really starting to annoy the S**T out of me. Thanks in advance for your help.

Try formatting it on you pc
sent from my EVO LTE
Like Spyderekz said, try pulling it from your phone, formatting it on your pc (make sure to select default allocation size if you're doing this on Windows). Then put it back into the LTE and make SURE to format it again there (simply erasing data will do it). If that doesn't work, try the card on the 3D to make sure it's not actually damaged (although that would be very strange).
You can try the format utility located below if still having problems. It's put out by the SD Association and is supposed to be the best there is, but I don't remember where I first read about it.

i have a 64gb kinston class 10 mmsd micro sd and my computer and evo only saw it as 27gb
I have found that if formatting on your pc and you use a micro sd to usb drive windows only sees it at 27mb as well. if you use a sdcard adapter and put it into an sdcard reader then windows can see the full drive and allow u to format it to nfts or exfat. as well the card formatter above should see full size as well if using the sdcard converter but not if using a microsd to usb converter
this may help as well

Only thing I can think of to cause the difference in the amount of vailable memory is the EVO 3d unofficially supported 64gb (but they could only claim 32gb with memory tech at time of testing) and the EVO LTE still officially only supports up to 32gb (minus formatting/partitioning) which would make it 27gb-ish...haven't really found anywhere that says EVO LTE supports more....someone correct me if I'm wrong......kinda how windows vista only saw up to 3.25gb of ram and later they updated to show 4gb+ for people with more ram installed....does that make sense?....

I bought my 64gb card and put it in my e3d. Said card was damaged and to format it. It saw 58gb of the 64. Fine with me. I am using the same card in my LTE with no issues. Maybe the card got corrupted and took a dump? Try formatting it over and over.
Off topic: the ram thing on Windows is a 32 bit vs 64 bit thing. Anything over 3.25gb on 32bit would get allocated towards graphics memory if I remember correctly. 64 bit OS would give you your ram to the max potential.

Oh ok, looks like its probably something else then. Just throwing an idea out....never had it happen personally but was a possibility....so in other words the elte looks like it shouldn't have a problem with 64gb cards? Good to know when I'm shopping for a bigger card....this 8gb runs out quick. Thanx for the clarification.

Yeah, wen I upgraded from the 3D I had to re-partition my card using TWRP....was just wondering if he has a ext4 partition he's not aware of...
Ahhh, that's a good point....I HAVE read something in the past about that possibly causing issues with flashing/memory allocation etc...wish I paid attention when I partitioned my card to ext4 for certain rims I used in past.....I'm no help anymore...but I am curious to see the result.

I want to point out that 58GB from a 64GB card is the correct size. You aren't losing anything in the format. Its just the difference between how storage companies and your computer measure memory.
Storage companies -> 1000MB = 1GB
Computers (including phones) --> 1024MB = 1GB
So... 64GB = 64,000,000,000 bytes according to storage companies
Your computer/phone sees that 64,000,000,000 as 64,000,000,000/1024/1042/1024 = 59.6GB
So what micro sdcards are people using as i need a new one want 32GB at least. Does it support 64? Preferably an amazon link!
link below, you can go 64gb or 128gb if you like. on 4.4.2 you might have to do the KK SDcard fix, which is simply editing a file in permissions and allowing RW access to the sd card. Might be the same for Lollipop, but I'm not there yet on my phone.
One thing I did find is that I get lag if I stick loads of music on there and use the stock app, so I use rocket player as it handles that better.

I haven't tested it, but I read that it worked fine. It's slightly outside my price point at the moment, once they drop a little buy one.

I think I read somewhere that the G3 actually supported up to 3TB SD cards ! (And yes, I know there's no card that big, but it just means it works ! )
Just get any class 10 sd card.
Just as a PSA, Best Buy is having a pretty good sale on Samsung micro sd cards. I got a 64gb "evo" for $25. Steady write rate, according to us file explorer, on 40mbps.
I can finally explore some 4k recording.
Sdcards for LG G3
In most regions the LG G3 comes with a hearty 32GB of internal storage, leaving nearly 25GB for you to use as you wish. As is often the case, one size never fits everyone — and if you need more than 32GB in your mobile device, you'll have to resort to using an external SD card to expand it. The LG G3's MicroSD card slot supports up to 128GB cards, giving you more room than you'd likely ever be able to fill.
Got my self a great deal on amazon for a 32GB card £13

Since I'm newly out of iPhone world, and into LG G3, Android and sdcards ... and I already had a problem with bad 32gb (fake chinese) SunDisk sdcard, which could write to it , but every file wouldd in a day or two get corrupted .. When I inserted the old (and slow) 16gb card , it works as it should...
But, could You refer me or explain, what can / can't I put on the card in my LG D858hk, with 4.4.2. Android. What can I do on stock LG Android, and what with rooting ?
Also, recommend some good quality 32gb at least , preferably 64gb ... since I am a massive hoarder of music etc.

128gb card
I've been using a Sandisk 128GB card for a couple of months now. Currently about half full with music. Reads / writes fine with no discernible real world difference compared to the 16GB card I had previously.
Can't say how it might work with stock, I am Rooted and booted using Cyanogenmod 12 by Manupse. No complaints.

From what I understand, the Samsung Pro cards are great. The one you posted is the last generation one. The current one is rated at up to 90MBps read and up to 50MBps write, and isn't that much more at $59.99.
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Class-Adapter-MB-MG64DA-AM/dp/B00IVPU88U
This being said, people tend to prefer the Samsung EVO cards for phone use. They're substantially less expensive ($35.79 shipped):
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Class-Adapter-MB-MP64DA-AM/dp/B00IVPU7AO
The reason people tend to prefer the less expensive EVO cards is their faster 4k random read/write speeds, which is arguably the most important aspect for phone use.
Here's the 64GB Samsung EVO micro SD:
Here's the 64GB Samsung Pro micro SD:
If you're using it in a camera, 4k camcorder, or transferring big files, I can see preferring the Pro. Then again, you can get the very similar PNY Turbo 64GB card (up to 90MBps read) for $27.99 shipped right now, which is less than 1/2 the price.
