[Q] Changing Androphone Brand? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everybody!
Now I'm working for a new brand of smartphones (for the Moroccan market only at the moment), but the manufacturer want to change brand (in the phone properties) if We order more than 20000 units..., but it's impossible or us, so we want to do it ourselves.
The Phone specs:
Screen: 4,5" qHD
CPU: MT6577 Dual Core @ 1 GHz
Cameras 8 Mpixels/ 0.3 Mpixels
Android ICS 4.0.4
RAM 512 MB
ROM 4 GB
It's possible? and how we can do it?
Thanks
ILYASOVICH

Nice phone... i would pu at least 724 of RAM tho...
You have to edit the build.prob
You need to be rooted and a file manager to find and edit the file or a app for that (search for build.prob)
I bet you could do the modifications you want and transform a backup in a ROM so that you can flash on all device instead of doing it individually...

There's 2 way to install ROMS for these models
1. Flashtool 4.0 : for install with scattered rom files : use for install CWM Recovery or partition modifying patch - it's hard for the first time installation because Driver installation. please be patient
2. CWM Recovery : for install with zip rom file : after install CWM Recovery, i usually use this way for installation
INSTALLATION TOOLS
USB drivers zopo - mediafire.com/?l88i78kesvp4b49
Flashtool4 - mediafire.com/?sf2dk21sm1a1a4g
CWM Recovery - mediafire.com/?9xr03iagvb07vcb
2.5GB data partition.7z - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/11743546/2.5GB data partition.7z - Install with flashtool 4.0 for increase /data partition to 2.5GB app space! & CWM Recovery Included
INSTRUCTIONS by darevix
- First it is advisable to backup your data applications with Titanium Backup or Rom Toolbox.
- You must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed, instructions below.
- Copy the ROM to the root of the SD card.
- Boot into CWM recovery mode. A simple method is to restart the phone by holding the button "volume up" down.
- Although not required, I recommend making a backup of your current ROM in case things go wrong. (Backup and restore> backup) will take a few minutes.
- Do a "wipe data / factory reset"
- Install the rom with the option: Install zip from sdcard> choose zip from sdcard> zom name. Zip
- Reboot and wait.
INSTALL ClockworkMod recovery by darevix
1 - Download:
USB drivers zopo - mediafire.com/?l88i78kesvp4b49
Flashtool4 - mediafire.com/?sf2dk21sm1a1a4g
CWM Recovery - mediafire.com/?9xr03iagvb07vcb
We took 2nd phone battery and put it back on.
3 - FlashTool execute, open the file downloaded scatter of recovery before and give the download button. We display a message indicating that not all files have been loaded. We will give the button if we want to continue.
4 - With battery and mobile tucked off connect the phone to the PC via the USB cable. Windows will detect a new device. When applying for a driver to choose the previously downloaded our version of Windows.
5 If we get an error FlashTool to overcome the waiting time, we repeat the steps 2,3 and 4 with the driver already installed.

Thank you so much. After some hit and trial I was able to flash the ROM. Actually it installs two VCOM (usb2ser) drivers which are to be configured before the flashtool actually recognizes the phone virtual COM port. But it actually needs flash tool to be installed properly. So for any newbie, based on my experience the following should be the path followed. I have installed USBLogView http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_log_view.html to watch and monitor which USB device are installed. I am using Windows XP-32 bit but he procedure should remain mainly similar for Windows 7 as well.
1. First turn off the phone, pull out the battery. Keep the microUSB cable connected to you PC, but dont connect the phone to it as yet.
2. Download the intended ROM files, for me it was the modded ZOPO ROM (downloaded from the earlier posts in the same thread) for ZP900. it is a RAR/ZIP file which you have to unRAR in any folder, make sure the folder name is short and preferably should not contain spaces. I created a folder in my D drive called D:\ZP900\ZP900 ( i will be posting my sample files). When unzipped it will extract many files which you have to correctly assign with the relevant path in the flashtool to work properly
3. When you unRAR the Flashtool (downloaded from earlier posts in this thread) folder there is a subfolder called Android (in which you have an Android.INI, this file ) . Do the process mentioned in the screenshot to edit your Android.ini file properly.
4. Run the flash tool , select your correct scatter file which will be found in the ROM unzipped folder, for me the file name is "MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt" which came with the ZOPO ROM (downloaded from the earlier posts in the same thread) for ZP900. This scatter file contains the memory addresses which are to be rewritten in the phone ROM with the correct type of images (found in the unzipped ROM directory). It is different for every mobile architecture , in our case it is the correct one for MTK6577 (which is the ZOPO/Hero 9500). Once you select scatter file the file locations for various image types would be automatically files from the android.ini file which we edited in the last step. Now open the Windows device manager to see what USB device gets in installed. Also open the USBLogview to see what is plugged in and out (just if you like to do so). Follow the steps in the next screen shot to attach the phone for the first time , it will show an unidentified MTKxxxx_preloader VCOM.
5. When it does select the install driver manually option and choose the USB drivers (as downloaded from the earlier post and unzipped in a separate folder) it will install the first VCOM port as seen in USBLogview. It is the behaviour of this port to keep plugging/unplugging itself . So you have to grab the right moment in device manager to click the device and open its properties window to supply the driver yourself.
After that what I did was to remove the phone, insert the battery, keep it switched off. Exit the flashtool, re-run it again to repeat the procedure in step number 4 till the end, and then reconnect the phone (this time with battery and turned OFF), this time it will detect another unknown VCOM device, as earlier supply the same driver as you have downloaded from the same location as you did previously, but this time it will install a slightly differently named VCOM device and it will stay in device manager after the installation, unlike the first device which keeps flashing in/out. Check out the screen shot.
Once this second device is correctly installed the firmware flashing begins itself, when the flashtool bar turns red/purple, then yellow and finally you will be shown the green circle with OK prompt.
Hopefully if you did it right, you have flashed your Hero H9500+ (mine with 1G RAM) with the ZOPO ZP900 ROM. After a lot of frustration at last this was the way which worked for me of course with the guidance from the posters.
Happy flashing and say thanks if it helped you.

You can select english but it is not very accurate and you will see many grammatical and syntax error. Chinese does creep in some of the applications which makes it difficult to use them. however the rom is super smooth without any glitches"

So will this ROM and rooting method also work on original ZOPO ZP900 Leader. I am planning to buy one, however I am reading in the thread that this ROM is limited to 512MB RAM, where the original ZOPO has 1GB RAM (opposed to the replica Hero i9300+ with 512MB). So if I root and flash this ROM , will I be limited to use the 512RAM only and would be enjoying the enhanced speed and performance difference there would be in a original ZOPO ZP900.
Also need your advice whether to go for the original ZOPO ZP900 or the Hero i9300+, since you guys already seem to have em. Can you please recommend based on the following areas. It is ok if the Hero is reasonably good enough and fast , i don't think I would then go for a ZOPO.
1. Speed and performance, any huge difference.? 1GB RAM v/s 512MB RAM.
2. Screen quality qHD , any noticeable difference in sharpness, colour clarity and visual aesthetics. I read that the original ZOPO has Corning Gorilla Glass. Any differce in the resolution b/w the ZOPO and Hero, does the qHD really feels good enough on Hero.
3. Overall build quality, plastic body smooth or thin and cheap.
4. Any sensors missing in the Hero ? Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscope, GPS, Proximity , Light.
5. Battery timings and results (provided that there are two batteries shipped with the Hero 9300+).
6. Any other areas you feel are important to make a decision to spend the extra money on the original ZOPO.
Would be a great resource for anyone planning to buy but confused in making the decision.
Thanks for your replies so I can finalize my decision.
1. Speed and performance, any huge difference.? 1GB RAM v/s 512MB RAM.
FOR ME I've played with other model the 512MB & 1GB RAM difference is not much, it's increased smoothness but a little
2. Screen quality qHD , any noticeable difference in sharpness, colour clarity and visual aesthetics. I read that the original ZOPO has Corning Gorilla Glass. Any differce in the resolution b/w the ZOPO and Hero, does the qHD really feels good enough on Hero.
qHD is noticeable difference for me, it's sharp and good color but i didn't thinks it's gorilla glass for Hero H9300+, unknown for ZP900
3. Overall build quality, plastic body smooth or thin and cheap.
build quality is fine, not look very cheap
4. Any sensors missing in the Hero ? Accelerometer, Compass, Gyroscope, GPS, Proximity , Light.
there's all sensor except gyroscope
5. Battery timings and results (provided that there are two batteries shipped with the Hero 9300+).
it's fine stand by more than 1-2 days if you don't play it too much
6. Any other areas you feel are important to make a decision to spend the extra money on the original ZOPO.
no need for me Hero H9300+ is good for me
Thanks xenoxc,
I just ordered a H9500 (9300+) from Aliexpress. This is the same with 1GB of RAM, so hopefully would be equal to original zopo.
Can I use all theses mods mentioned in the thread on this mobile and would still get all the RAM and front/back camera working.
plus is there a mod or a kernel for this phone which enables BLN.
Thanks for your replies.

use this thread to start porting
BASE and PORTED must be the same CPU. e.g. ARMv7, ARMv6, ARMv5
BASE & PORTED should be the same Android version.
If you are porting a custom GB ROM, then use a GB BASE, the same goes for ICS and JB
Make sure both BASE & PORTED are deodexed (It's hard to port an odexed ROM)
thank you for the fast reply!
but as i can read on the guide that you suggested to me:
if you do not have a GB/ICS/JB already compiled for your device, then this Guide is useless for you.

How To: Extract a Kernel From a ROM
There's a kernel you like, but it is only available packaged with the developer's ROM. You like the features of a different ROM, but want to use the kernel of the first ROM. Or maybe you want to keep your stock ROM, but use a kernel packaged in a custom ROM. What do you do? You extract the kernel (this sounds a lot cooler than it actually is).
Standard disclaimer: this procedure should not be done by anyone ever. But if you do do it and blow your phone up into tiny little pieces, I am not responsible.
You might have noticed that all ROMs and kernels come in zip files, which you install in ClockworkMod Recovery or Team Win Recovery Project. Ever tried looking in one of those zip files? You'll find a bunch of files and folders. One of these files, called "zImage", is the kernel. Here is how to take a kernel out of a ROM to use in another ROM or by itself, in 3 (you should already have done step 0 but I put it there just in case) easy steps:
0) Make a backup of your phone using Recovery. This is extremely important - if you mess anything up, you'll have a system backup as a restore point. If you don't know how to do this or what I'm talking about, your not screwed.
1) If you don't already have it, download Root Explorer or ES file manager - this will let you view and modify the internals of zip files without extracting them. This is important because other users have reported problems with the unzip ROM>modify ROM>re-zip ROM method.
2) On your computer, unzip the ROM you want to extract the kernel from (it's ok to unzip this ROM since you won't be flashing it) and find the "zImage" file. It will be in a folder called "kernel_update". Set this file aside.
Now, if you are putting the extracted kernel into a ROM that comes with its own kernel, go to step 3a. If the ROM does not come with its own kernel or you want to install the extracted kernel without a ROM, go to step 3b.
3a) Place the ROM you plan on flashing as well as the extracted "zImage" file onto the root of your phone's SD card. Using file manager, look inside the ROM and find the "kernel_update" folder and delete the "zImage" file there, then replace it with the "zImage" from step 2. That's it, you're done! Now just boot into Recovery and flash.
3b) This step is for installing the extracted kernel by itself, and for users who want to use the extracted kernel with a ROM that does not come with its own kernel. To insert a kernel into a ROM that does not come with its own kernel is beyond the scope of this guide (it's a bit messier). So for those users it is easiest to first flash your ROM, then flash the kernel as a separate zip. To do this, first download any stand-alone kernel. Then place both the stand-alone kernel as well as the "zImage" from step 2 onto the root of your SD card. Using file manager, Find the "kernel_update" folder in the stand-alone kernel zip, delete "zImage" and replace it with the "zImage" from step 2. That's it, you're done! Now just boot into Recovery and flash.

[Q] How to decrease ram usage of system apps

Hello, i'm using a cyanogenmod 9 on my optimus sol and i want to decrease ram usage of some system apps even modding them, only the settings app occupies 50 MB of ram, on gingerbread it occupies 10 MB of ram, it's abnormal.
Another question is, how to theme a stock app? I have two apk, one that i want to use as "BASE" and the other where i want to port the "gui", in poo words, i want to port the gui of an apk on another apk, for example i have :
Settings.apk = Base
Settings.apk = Different GUI that i want to port
Last question but less important than the others, is it possible to port an apk builded only for ICS to a GingerBread device?
Thanks.

On Touchwiz devices it's only possible to disable the video recorder sound by deleting /system/media/audio/ui/VideoRecord.ogg. You need root permissions to do that.
