I bought the Motorola Razr just for using with Wi-fi. I wanted something compact and portable but also powerful that I could use to snap photos, listen to music, watch videos, and last but not least, use the Robert Broglia emulators to play games on a TV with my friend when I visit him.
The problem is that the Robert Broglia emulators (MD.emu, Snes9X ex, etc.) all seem to have a jitter problem (most noticeable on fast moving games) on this device which I have never seen on any other device I have had. And yes, I am aware there are other emulators available, but Gensoid has really bad audio and I have never found any emulators that run as nice as the Broglia ones. So switching emulators is not a good option for me, or at least one that I am not willing to entertain.
I contacted Robert and he tried some things but basically the conclusion was that the combination of the stock OS and his emulators was creating a timing problem that caused the jitter. I did try a custom rom and MD.emu ran with the normal smoothness that I had come to expect, but of course the rom I tried did not support HDMI.
So basically I am just reaching out to see if anyone has any ideas on what I can do about this. I want to be able to use the Broglia emulators and still have HDMI output. There may very well be no solution to this, but I thought it couldn't hurt to try.
Thanks.
Here's the funny outcome, I bought one of those JXD S5110 devices, the emulators run great on that. Goes to show you that more power in a device doesn't mean better performance if software is conflicting.

The seems to be alot of people here that have devoted ALOT of time to making our Titans the products we always hoped our carriers promised. It is amazing to me that with all their massive infrastructures, engineers & support staff they just can't seem to keep pace with DCD, no2chem...the list goes on.
I am avid computer gaming and graphics enthusiast, home theater, XBOX hacker...building my own systems and am learning the ropes here on my Moguls (3 in the family). I have not gotten to the point of building my own custom ROM's for my specific needs..yet.
I just wanted to say thanks for spending the time making these units a better device for all of us. I can only imagine the hours it must take everyone involved. I love the fact that there are others out there still that say "F*** That!" when we are given crappy software by manufacturers and have the dedication to do what they seemingly cannot!
So Thanks!

Well then you have given me hope I can master this. On a side note, I hacked the old xbox along time ago with a Xenium ICE chip and now just received the Globe 360 v2 chip from Europe for the XBOX 360 to make that console more agreeable. Should be fun...
w00t xbox hacking!
im still waiting for some reliable solution for homebrew on the 360 though...
and thanks for the roms dcd, but youve got me reflashing my phone almost on a daily basis with the 2.x.x releases, lol
This is way off topic but I'll jump in. I used to hack the original Xbox to get XBMC, copy my games to HD to make them load faster, emulators, etc. I found the only real feature I used was XBMC and I was using it all the time. I personally don't play games all that much and when I do I like to play them online so ripping games wasn't something I did often.
Honestly, with the Fall 360 update I have zero reason to mod my 360. XBLA fills my classic game fix (I play Doom and Sonic ) and I can access all my media over UPnP.

homebrew will nice for the 360. I have 3 XBMC boxes as well....
agreed, awesome ROMs. Gotta thank no2chem too...
Awesome Rom's DCD
First off, DCD your roms are amazing i wish i had the skill/talent/time to do the amazing work that your capabile of!
I too used to Mod xboxs (i was an x-ecuter guy myself), PS1's, PS2's and now my PDA!
Thank You DCD! I took am enjoying your custom rom update...GPS works great...just need to test the bluetooth now.
yea, thanks for all the help to dcd and everyone else. this is also off topic, but there is no way i would even buy an xbox 360 if i couldnt burn games, so bravo to everyone who hacks them, cause i did and 360 is better than ever
Now that PS3 controllers work natively, has anyone had experience with PSX emulators on this tablet? which one works best?
I ask before I pay rofl
I use FPse, it works fine, but has sound problems in some games. With FPse I use not original sony controller.
I did not have time to test psxperia version 2. Version 1 did not work.

anyone tried FPSe or PSX player w/ official PS3 joypad via bluetooth?
Tempted to drop the cash on FPSe anyway but if it doesn't work with the joypad then I'll be p1ssed (can't see why not as long as it supports manually assigning buttons).
I swear I bought a PSX emulator in the distant past, ran like a dog on my Nexus One, forgot about it, now can't find it anywhere. Could have been removed like SNESoid. That policy is ---- terrible, at least let us DL the last available version for those who've PAID the money lol.

I will try that tonight when I get home, I will run the FPSE with my favourite game, Street Fighter and use my PS3 controller to play the game via bluetooth.

appreciate it, I'll be getting back to wifi tomorrow (on holidays now so only intermittently available, defo not in a comfortable system tinkering setting rofl) so would appreciate if you let me know how well it works (or not).
SNES emulation w/ PS3 joypad is perfect with SNESdroid (after a bit of manual settings), PSX emulation would be the ultimate.
I don't understand why Sony hasn't gotten off their butts and placed the entire PSX catalogue or as much of it as they can legally manage onto the official PS Store channels, and at a better price point - those ROMs are free money basically. I would happily pay official prices for ease of use/DL etc. if they had a better selection and pricing. (e.g. 3-5 USD per game). Why there's only ten or so titles right now I have no idea (or is there more on the store on Xperia play?).
If they managed it they could basically take an almighty crap on even the apple store's games catalogue in one swoop, the games are all already done and most of them work fine via emulation already.

I have tested to install the FPSE Emulator on my Tablet, launch the FPSE with my PS3 controller connected via bluetooth then proceed to play the game by loading the Street Fighter ROM.
Of course, you will need to disable the on-screen controller layout then configure the hardware keys then you will be able to control using the Digital Pad and Analog joystick to play the game, it is fun playing the Street Fighter game on my Tablet with the PS3 wirelessly.
market error: the item you were attempting to purchase could not be found
?!?!?!?
EDIT: figured it out, its been bloody marked as incompatible in the market for this model. I'm betting Sony had something to do with this. FWIW getting the APK (I bought it on my Atrix) and manually sideloading it works fine.
Bloody sony, typical for them to shoot themselves in the foot (memo: if you're gonna ban emulators, have more than a pathetic dozen games in your official market, and only crap ones at that rofl).
though I do swear even though I'm getting 60fps, it 'feels' way choppier, should be butter smooth but just doesn't feel like it, if I had to guess I would have said ~20-25fps. I do have framelimiter on, because if I have it off the gameplay is on super turbo faster than the human eye lol

I'm running into the same issue. It looks like it has to do with the new dual core option in the latest version (though I'm not sure why it would). I tested different settings with the option to show the fps on. With the Dual core option on it reports that i'm currently running at around 60 fps yet menus and gameplay seemed to sttutter more than they should. With the option off, it reports that I'm around 40 fps and yet menus and gameplay seem smoother. Both os these is with the framelimiter on. I used Hot Shots Golf 2 for testing.
cheers I'll try turning it off lol
edit: You're a GENIUS working great!
Okay guys with the launch of google play users are given the ability to grasp media ranging from movies, music to android application and games no matter what device they are using.
But my question is regarding the games supplied by devs
More and more graphically intense games are put on to the market and with the help of special segments like Nvidia tegra zone, makes you wonder whether you should upgrade to a dedicated gaming device like PSVita.
If you do a rough comparison in terms of specs(of the device),price(both console and games),quality, gameplay, controls, presentation, and most of all practicality(battery utilization) what would you choose
What are your opinions?
Having had the PSP and played a few games on my SGS2 and Samsung Tablet, it's the controls on the PSP/PS Vita which win for me.
I also think will depend on the type of game you like. Shadowrun, Nova 2, Modern Combat 3 don't feel as good on android. Also racing games don't really feel like driving games but that is me.
I have been sucked in by some for strategy games and they are perfect. MMO's are probably better off as have keyboard but haven't really tried.
I am looking at the PSVita sometime in the future.
i agree hardware controls are better input methods for gaming than touch screens, and there is some art in console gaming when it comes to controlling our avatar (be it character , vehicle, ship of whatever) instead of just repeated screen tapping..i got the gameloft's "BackStab'' game..don't get me wrong it's a top notch game for mobiles but if it were a PSP/Vita game you'd have more flexibility in terms of controls, but since it's a touch based button game on a relatively small screen devs probably had no other choice than to make it simple..

Quality games controls on android is no longer an issue. Latest version of sixaxis control for android even has touch controls emulation that is sheer genius. Allows any touch game to be setup for a ps3 pad.
Only issue in my opinion is which two devices do you want to carry??
Phone+games device
OR
Phone+PS3 Pad

an handeld device has to be handeld to be and handeld deivice - if you have to put it on a desktop to use it, the screen is too small so you will need a hdmi (if you device support it) connection and a tv.
it starts to be a bit unwieldy imho, carrying a tv and a desktop in your pocket.
I have been living a cave obviously lol.
I only saw a quick demo but Sonic the Hedgehog!? I might see if I can connect my Galaxy Tab to the sixaxis controller to play Shadowrun or Nova but I don't think I would carry with me and play in the train, etc. or anywhere in public personally am a PC gamer with the odd mobile game.
Maybe if big developers get behind the platform will we see bigger budget games. Quality of games developed for consoles is different between that of phones. I wouldn't be surprised if this changes in the future though.
Original OP asked about the differences now but don't see that the playing field is the same based on the games and hardware that has come out so far.

for me it's a matter of choosing where to play what.
for home gaming I use my PS3, for mobile gaming - my android's (Galaxy SII and Galaxytab 10.1) are wonderfull!
if I'm in a situation where I only have a few minutes, the SII is superp:
it's already in my pocket - the games installed are easy to just jump in and play for a few minutes. also great to entertain my little princess when we have to wait, and she gets restless.. the ability to use something you already have with you in your pocket is far better than having to remember to bring a console.
for longer gaming situations (travel etc.) the 10.1 offers a larger screen - and then the possibility to play more advanced games. more than advanced enough for my use. the ability to have a combined gamedevice and possibility to surf the web/check mail/etc. in one device is great, no need to bring a heavy laptop.
after I got the tab, I no longer need a laptop - I use the tab for small tasks, and a desktop computer for advanced tasks.
in all cases it comes down to using the correct device for my needs.
and the android devices more than satisfies mine

WHAT!?!?!?!
no offence but are you an idiot or just hopeless ate presenting your thoughts in a manner that makes sense.
WTF would anyone place a 4" screen across the room from them??? .......... if this is how you setup to play games on your phone no wonder your not enjoying the process.
The 1st part is idiotic enough but you then completely outdo yourself with the carry a TV and a desktop suggestion ........ because i don't want to form an even lower opinion of you than i already have, am going to regard this comment as an epically failed attempt at humour.
Please go start a poll asking how many forum users place there phone 2-3metres away to play games.
Then another asking if they think adding a desk and a 40" TV screen to their mobile kit would solve the problem ..............
WTF are they feeding kids where you live bro ?!?!?!?!?
So I'm an idiot and somehow posted this in the Sprint GN2 forum... oops.
anyway here it is:
Hi. This is my first (um... second) post - I'm new to Android - this is my first Android phone and places like this and the people here and their work are why I switched.
(short version)
Can any Note2 gamers out there chime in on game performance? I am getting deal-breaking lag on any game I try (admittedly limited but including GTA3, MaxPayne and MAME).
(long version)
In the month or so I've had the phone I have rooted and unlocked it, used stock for a while and then went to Jelly Beans' ROM. I've run all the odd numbered versions of that rom, stock kernel, clean wipe every time. I've read the thread about the rom all the way through... would have posted there but I'm new and cannot yet.
About a week ago I learned I could use a PS3 controller over USB natively for gaming and it worked right our of the box for games like GTA3 and Max Payne. I grabbed those games, and they seem to play great, but there is a noticeable audio lag - like 1/2 to a full second. The visuals seem to be smooth, and the controls seem to be responsive, but the audio lag makes games unplayable. I've only tried those two games plus some emulators, but both animaonline (SNES) and mame4droid (not reloaded) have the same audio lag issues. I get the lag over bluetooth and with wired headphones.
Some searching showed me that audio latency has been an issue with Android for a while, but also that Jelly Bean was supposed to fix that, and that higher end phones (like the note 2?!) had less of a problem. I also haven't seen any complaints from Note 2 owners regarding any of the games I mentioned.
I'm curious what others' experience has been with this. Thanks,
Well I don't have GTA 3 or Max Payne installed at the moment, but I do have SNES emulators. SNESoid to be exact.
I have my headphones plugged in and am using my DualShock 3 controller using Sixaxis and well, these old school PC gamer ears can't find any lag in my emulators. The sound happens when I expect it to, immediately.
However I did notice something thanks to cranking up the headphones, I get some nasty crackle in pretty much all my emulated games lol never noticed it on the speaker but on headphones they sound horrible.
Ah well it's all good. Hope someone can help you better than me.
i have played gta3 and snes emulator with my ps3 controller and no audio lag at all maybe ur phone was a dud lol
Thanks for the info. Knowing that others aren't having the same issues helps because I know it's worth looking into more closely
And I really hope the phone isn't a dud!

This may not be the best place for this but I don't know anywhere else where I could get legit help on this besides XDA.
I'm not really a current fan of any new wrestling but I like old WWE when it was WWF, especially the Attitude Era. I like the NWO and some other WCW. I've liked TNA mostly but it was not good when I last watched it and they've made a lot of bonehead decisions. I really think ECW was the most consistent in being a good show weekly.
All of that leads to me wanting to play rom mods of No Mercy. I don't know of a rom that has WWF, WCW, ECW, AND TNA wrestlers on it but I know there are some with at least two of the four companies.
I figured out how to add cheats on the regular game but I still want the wrestlers I see in Youtube videos on No Mercy mods. The default roster is good but I really think Val Venis, Mae Young, Mark Henry, and etc. take up space for better wrestlers and I honestly think WWF Wrestlemania has a better roster but worse gameplay, graphics, and just isn't as fun as No Mercy.
I know there has to be a folder of where the put the wrestlers and everything but I'm completely missing something.
I do have actual laptops - a Macbook and a Tashiba Satellite C55 - so I theoretically could run any emulator on both Mac and Windows but really, a tablet is more convenient for gaming than a computer. At least to me. I also run No Mercy smooth on my Galaxy Tab 3 and GTA San Andreas runs just as good too and I play with a Bluetooth controller and it's really just like playing with a PS2 or PS3 controller with the build.
SO I made this post longer than I needed to but can anyone help me?
