[Q] Assign contact to phone number - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

In Android I can assign a preferred phone number for a contact.
I would like to set a preferred contact for a phone number.
If I get called and the number was added to multiple contacts (which is correct for my case), I would like to set another contact as the preferred contact when the number calls again.
Is this possible?

Simply long press on the number and choose "set as default"

[Q] How to prioritize texting only to mobile phones

When I go to send a text message, aka starting to enter a number to text, too often it tries to make me text a home phone and I have to go out of my way to select the mobile phone.
How can this be resolved, whether by telling the message app to ignore home phones or at least prioritize mobile phones as #1?
I believe you can set the default number for each contact in the stock contacts app.
Just go to the details of a contact and long press the number you want as the default. It should be an option in the popup menu.

[Q] how do i change the voicemail number in voicemail settings?

under settings -> call ->voicemail -> settings for my carrier
there is a voicemail number that isn't mines.. i bought this phone used so it's probably the previous owners number. how do i change this setting? when i click on it it just flashes and makes a sound but nothing happens, no text field pops up
Help please ...
I am trying to set my voicemail for the speed dial "1" key.
while at the keypad screen:-
menu-> call setting -> scroll to the heading "voicemail", option "voicemal service", is set default to "my carrier".
I then choose to change the "voicemail settings" -> "voicemail number", and enter the new voicemail number to dial, press ok .... and this is where the problem is...
When I press OK ... I get the following error "Voicemail number change unsuccessful"
I would like to to have this number changed , as every time manually dial my voicemail number it constantly ask for my password.
Why is this happening, I have purchased this phone outright, it is model type i9300, running Android 4.1.2.
Hopefully this can be an easy fix...?
PS...
This also causes a problem with Australian virtual mobile carriers, like Amaysim, Kogan, Aldi, who use Telstra & Optus as there underlying carriers, and and also will cause issues when travelling abroad, because you will not be able to access your voicemail if the number can not be changed to the full international dialing equivalent..

Does ICS fix the bug in phone => keypad that disallows you selecting alternate nmbrs?

Does ICS fix the bug in phone => keypad that disallows you selecting alternate nmbrs?
ie I have a contact with 3 phone numbers and would like to select their mobile number.
on the phone keypad, I type in their name and the contact name appears with their home number... there doesnt seem to be any way to select the mobile number for that contact.
I dont want to set the mobile number as default as there are times Id like to call his home number or work number as well.
I can personaly select all the numbers of my contacts with ICS .

[Q] App that adds prefix to dialed number? Calling card app maybe?

So I have tried about 10 apps so far that none seem to do what I am looking to accomplish. I am hoping that someone may have a suggestion.
I have a dial in phone system that allows me access to a dial tone. So if want to be able to select a number from my history, contacts or a clickable link and have it prompt which dialer I want to use. If I choose this app it should dial MY number and enter my access code THEN dial the number I was trying to call.
So for example I am trying to call 212-555-1212 and my number is 212-666-1212 it should dial:
212-666-1212[mynumber],,[pause]1234[accesscode],,[pause] 212-555-1212
I have found a few apps that seem to do this, however they have integrated them in such a way where it will only automatically enter into the "Calling card mode" based on dialing rules (Such as area code and country code) there is no way to manually select when to utilize the "calling card mode" and when not to,
I was thinking if there is a Alternative Dialer that supports calling cards, it will add the necessary hooks into the OS and then I can just manually select which app to use to make calls (Either the stock dialer or this new dialer)
Have never looked into this kind of issue, but this seems like it might have the options you are looking for...?

If not, sorry.

[Q] Is it possible to redirect a call to one number to a different number?

I have a very minor issue, but one that I'd like to solve, if possible. Here's the scenario:
My wife calls me from her work line, and the caller number shows her company's general line - (212) 555-1000. If I go into the dialer and dial it back, I get an operator.
However, she does have a direct extension, (212) 555-1010 - both numbers are under her contact (so I can quickly see that it's her calling). If I miss a call from her, I simply remember to go into the contact and choose the direct number instead of the main number.
What I'd like to know is if there is a way to tell Android when I try to dial "main number" under contact "wife," I really mean "direct number."
I doubt there is a way to do this as it's probably a security issue, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
Any ideas?

You can use Tasker to create a profile for this situation
Install Tasker
set Tasker as a device admin:
Settings --> Security --> Device administrators --> Tasker
then in tasker create a new profile:
(+) --> Event --> Phone --> Missed Call
when prompted to enter a caller # hit the magnifying glass --> A Single Contact --> Choose the contact number for your wife's "main number"
then click on the back key and ---> New task (add a name to the task - optional)
now add an action to the task:
(+) ---> Phone ---> Call
When prompted to enter a Number to call, hit the magnifying glass and choose your wife's "direct number"
don't select the Auto Dial option. Then hit the back key twice till you are in the main menu of tasker.
Now every time your phone get a missed call from that "main number", you'll be prompted to call back the "direct number" when unlocking phone.
Just delete the main number form your contact. Then the only option to dial is the direct number..
