I want a note. S3 is just a little bit to small for me. Is there any known issues that i should be aware of? How about capabilities, like same hardware? Software? Any heads up would be nice! Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

The Note 2 has better internals than the S3 - if you're interested in upgrading you would be better off with that.

I've had Note 1, S3 then Note 2... the best is obviously the newest because has the latest everything hardware software and features. I haven't used the dual core S3's I bet they are slow regardless of whatever anyone may say about benchmarks and whatnot. If you don't mind slow then a Note 1 will suffice you, but I rather get the N7000 than the i717 I've had both and the n7000 hast better rom support and better battery life they both suffer from screen "banding" its a known issue and both suffer from high battery drain when wifi is on, the n7000 lacks LTE and is packed with a SAMSUNG Exynos CPU/Mali GPU while the i717 is a Snapdragon/Adreno, the adreno is less compatible than the MALI so expect better FPS on the n7000. They are all capable of running pretty much ANY app that is available at the moment but the Note2 seems/feels snappier than the others. Physicaly the note 1 is wider at 16:10 ratio and the note2 is narrower, personally i've found that 16:9 is much better for typing in portrait than the note1 I do less typos on the n7100 don't really count that as a plus or minus.
Hope that helps you a little.
That reply helped me out alot. Alot to consider. I went from have the s1 i9000 for a year and loving that phone. Then went to the s3 pretty much when it.came out. Huge improvment. The duel core snap dragon cpu is quite impressive. This phone is super quick n i love it...just need something a lil bigger. Thanks a lot

+1 I was just about to say the same thing
sent from my lovely phone....hmmm wait its a tablet...waaa i dont really know.....im PARANOID NoW!
I wouldn't say the Note is slow but the note 2 is faster. I believe jellybean improves the ui with project butter so if we get jellybean on i717, Superb!
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
[Lady]: "How do you carry that huge phone in your pocket?"
[Note User]: "I'm used to having huge stuff in my pants"
obviously the note 2 is faster. but the note 1 isnt slow. stock vs stock... my amaze 4g with the same s3 and 1gig of ram was faster.. samsung just did a horrible job with slimming down touchwiz... or maybe it could be all that carrier bloat because the stock n7005 rom is pretty smooth.
some people complain about hairline cracks on their note but i think that is only a problem with the white version. so you might want to look out for that.
The Note 2 is definitely the fastest out of all of them. It also has the advantage of packing a slightly bigger screen (5.5" vs 5.3") into pretty much the same size frame.

I really like my note because of the gorgeous screen but Im thinking about possibly upgrading to the s3 but is it worth it?
Specs wise, S3 is not much better, correct?
Is quadcore worth the upgrade? I heard that the battery life for s3 is pretty good. The battery life for ghetto note is not too impressive.
So what do you guys think?

This falls into the shiny category.
The S3 is new, but has some dev work explosion atm. The note has a huge screen and spen.
Go anđ try a smaller screen for a while, you'll get annoyed quickly.
If you are going to get the S3, import it, as lte in canada isn't really anywhere significant.
I would stick with the note and wait for the note2 or whatever replacement some big dog lets loose.

Sell me your Note if you upgrade!
well i bought my note mainly for the size of the screen
anything less than 5.3 is not an upgrade for me
since you already have a note, all new phones that come out have the advantage of using the latest technology. once you get the s3,in 3 month, something better, maybe even a note 2 might release..... see where im going?? The only advantage is the screen: most new phones have the technology, most dont come close to the note screen size though. Like the 2020 iphone might fly in the sky on its own, but still doubt it will have at least a 5.3" screen (since they only make one phone and it has to appeal to ALL of its users)

I might could work up a "upgrade frenzy" for a Gnote II since, by the time it would be ready for market, it should be ready to intergrate enough new tech with even a sweeter 5.3" screen to make it too enticing to ignore. Until that day arrives, I plan on teasing as much pleasure from this gspot. ..(damn spell check),um er, from this gnote..as can be had by mortal man...... : ) ....

i'm thinking of getting the Galaxy s3 but i'm having a bit of trouble deciding which one. before i continue i would like to sate a couple factor :
I have att, 3gb of data
I live in New York so i have LTE coverage everywhere
i barely use data for anything other than downloading an app, browsing the web, or watching something on youtube
i'm a major gamer so thats were getting the international one with its Exynos chip v.s the us one with snapdragon s4
So a couple of questions i wanted to ask you guys was:
Does 1gb vs 2gb of ram really make a difference and improve speed, i don't multitask a lot just like 2 or 3 apps
how good is the snapdragons 4 actually?( Give your opinion, and if you ever had lag when you used it)
How good is the snapdragon s4 for gaming, ex. GTA3, Max Payne, Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation, N.O.V.A 3, and if the games ever felt laggy or a little glitchy?
Also they are more developers for the international version
thanks in advance
If you are not worried too much about the LTE speeds than your best bet is i9300. Exynos 4 Quad is definitely better for gaming ... I have the AT&T variant just because I wanted to have unlimited 4G plan (grandfathered unlimited 3G upgraded to unlimited 4G now).
Also, if u have ORD then i9300 is the best choice hands down. I can speak from my own experience when I chose to get i9100 over local US variants. The amount of developer support for the international models is mind boggling. You don't get that much support (as quickly) for the US variants.
So better gaming, better developer support. I would say go for i9300 ... Hope this helps.

I have the US version and I game quite a bit. I frequently play Max Payne, Shadow gun, Dead trigger and GTA3. I don't experience any lag what so ever. I couldn't make this thing lag if I wanted to. The 2Gs of RAM makes a world of difference IMO.

For ME the development alone is the biggest reason why i went for the international, we have so many recognized devs working on so many ROM's and its nice to get the first updates as soon as they come. The quad core is a bonus, as i have never seen a hint of lag or stutter on this thing. The 2gb of ram vs 1gb of ram isnt really that big of a deal to me, phones run perfectly fine on 1gb but 2gb is awesome too. This is why i chose the I9300, its different for everybody but i love this beast.
I come to these forums a lot to see what the US version has cooking and so far it looks like things are getting ready to pick up! Task and Ktoonz (sp?) are awesome devs.
If the $600 is out of your budget, then the convo is done. I mean what else do you need people to say?
Please don't take me being blunt, for rudeness.

No problem. Trust me, your going to love it. You probably won't even want to sell it for the international version. The US version handles everything just fine. In fact, tests have shown where the S4 processor actually performed faster in some situations. Most phones can't even utilize 4 threads yet. Put simply, you get all the performance of the quad-core (and then some), plus amazing battery life. We've seen video proof of the performance. With the S4 Qualcomm has introduced a new architecture, and it's cutting edge. It's based on the same instruction set as the new ARM A15 processors, which gives it a significant advantage over it's competitors. It will do tasks faster, and more efficiently than the rest of the current generation hardware. So performance is just as good overall and battery life should be better.

Don't believe everything you hear the s4 chip is a beast. Not as good as the sammy quad but i say better than tegra. Either way a duel core phone going toe to toe with either of theses processors speak for itself. It's a notice different from last generation duel core. It handles games without a hitch battery life omg all day long . This phone isn't perfect but it's Pretty darn close. I own the evo 4g lte with the s4 chip and it runs sense4 like butter no lag get the phone enjoy it. Development isn't where the international version is because the rest of the world78% to be exact got the same phone and little usa has to have there altered to work with lte. Plus they got theres before us. The u.s galaxy s3 development will pick up fast the delays and Verizon just getting it a few days plays a roll to.

Not to be rude but you need to research the specs yourself, someone could say one has magic faeries inside for all you know.
The One X has a super lcd2 IPS display, while the GS3 has a samoled hd+ screen.
The One X has no removable storage or battery, while the GS3 has both.
The One X has 1gb of RAM, while the GS3 (USA) has 2gb.
The One X has Sense, we have TouchWiz

The Note II is to big for me at least so I would probably sick with the S3, but if you don't mind that extra size, get it.
As you use your S III do you have any issues like lagging or any probs that is related to RAM? If not then RAM is not something that should be bugging you. Up until that monsterous 5 inch 1080p phones coming the distance between note ii and s iii will remain quite significant regarding size and purposes. I would stick with my siii knowing that if I had a note ii I could never handle it anywhere like a phone as I would with s iii. Rather, I would have both of them.
if you handle big size go for note if you cant then no, head over to some samsung cafe to have a demo

NOTE 2 BECAUSE SGS3 has only 780 mb ram and note 2 has about 1.6 gb ram
multitasking sucks on galaxy s3 because of that reason
and after updating note 2's firmware you get split screen multi tasking like note 800 which makes it awesome
click thanks if helped
Dude.. s3 is an awesome phone in total. Go for the note 2 only if u want a bigger screen and a stylus. Coz, as of now, the ram of s3 is really sufficient. All games run without a lag, smooth browsing, smooth multitasking. What more u need?? So don't think that s3 is gonna get outdated anytime soon. Give for note2 if u want bigger screen and yeah it has better battery life coz of the humongous battery. Don't switch thinking s3 is gonna get outdated.. hope I helped.

Thanks guys for all the reply's I too feel that the s3 is pretty awesome, but few things are really annoying such as the dialer and contacts lag etc which sammy should have fixed. And also they should have added extra ram. There is no huge difference between the s3 and s2. I am just a student, I saved money to buy this phone, I want it to be perfect that's all
If you want a larger screen, go for the Note II. If you don't, stick to the S3.
If you want to get Android updates first, go for Nexus 4.
^ unless, like most of us you like using an sdcard - nexus 4 doesn't... which is a deal breaker for me

Note II is an amazing phone but the problem of the size is very critical for me and also i didn't find any problem from the RAM of s3 it's doing great , and also samsung in a last update said that the next update for s3 it will support multitask multiscreen, so they will not doing something like that if they know that the RAM will not sufficient and sutiable for that ,

Thread title should read "Help me get even more confused guys"
Mostly everybody seems to be giving similar advise. if you are ok with bigger size+ $$ to burn, get a note 2, else you already have a s3.
Why do you think the s3 is not suiting your needs ? i eman do you have any complaints, or just the fact that your phone will be "outdated" soon ? Cos it happens among students (i noted you are one) where they try to show off the most latest gadgets, trust me, not worth the race. as long as it suits all your needs, (guessing music+pics+FB+whatsapp) then s3 is perfect (you already have it so ....)
Lot of folks talking about Multitasking ?? are you sure you actually going to use that feature ? or maybe again just to "show-off"..
I am assuming you may have a laptop already, so...... multitasking ? emails? etc... will they really make any difference ?
No offense but these were my 2 cents and the rest is upto you. my vote - stick to the s3 for now.

If we're to believe Samsung Display, the display arm of Samsung, which is actually a desperate company, there might not be a Note 3 as we know it. They're replacing both the Note 2 display, as well as the S3 display with a 1920x1080 4.99 inch panel this year. This according to Anandtech. I suppose we could see a curved OLED touting Note, but then again, flexible OLED yield isn't supposed to be good enough for production runs til 2014.
Unless they're keeping the display a secret, this is what most would expect. This doesn't mean that they'll have some other type of offering or combination to allow SPen functionality on say....the S4, but I wouldn't personally design a new chassis around an S4 and call it a Note.
I'd definitely choose the S3 at this point. The Development support will last significantly longer than it will for this device. Isn't it the most popular Android device ever? That is to say, more users often means more ROMs, the pressure to update and develop for it will be higher.
Since were not talking about an upgrade, its a no brainer.
But if you had to use an upgrade, or pay more than say....50-100 bucks (personal figure) I definitely wouldn't do it. A new generation of SoCs is just around the corner. Just as well, the GPU is much more powerful on the S3, but app support and UI/general performance isn't too much better now that we have 4.2 AOSP. And while an official JB is probably a couple months out, but it will bring most Note2 features home for us.
That's the current sitrep for both devices.

Personally I love my note and it's plenty fast with the stable roms out there. My gf has a S3 and it's a nice device and I can really see the appeal but it really depends on WHAT you plan on doing with it. I remote into computers and my home network. Work on servers all from my phone so moving to a smaller screen isn't what I'd do. It has the horsepower to show up plenty of phones and though it's a gen old with older hardware, I kept my 86 toyota camry longer than I've had this phone and THAT was a piece of crap.
But again it's all about needs and wants. If you feel that you need the faster phone and are willing to loose the screen size, I say go for it.

Agreed, with new phone announcements coming up soon it doesn't make sense to upgrade for any form of currency, but in a straight trade, it might be worth it.

At this point, trade for the S3, as the XDA Note community is shrinking...

True, but I'd hazard to guess that's more due to the devs waiting for official JB to be released. But as my gf likes to remind me, I'm often wrong

I find the ui performance much smoother on the s3. ridiculously so actually.
the 4.2 roms do help the note but it still isn't in the same ballpark as the s3
actually the note 2 non international is fast enough, after you apply the Lag-remover app, posted this month. The Note flies after!

Note
I have the S3 and it is a good device...however I desperatly miss the note and will be tradin my s3 for a not this week....the s3 is great but the display on the note and good size keybaord is worth keeping. In my opion

the fluidity of the s3 blows the note out of the water...
so so smooth.
Thought I would ask those who have the Note II what you guys think of the SIV. I am a tech junkie and always move on to something else. (My only regret was the Droid DNA.) I actually like my Note II a lot and really don't know if I want the SVI or not (or HTC One). So what do you guys think?
Think we will get a lot of the stuff on the note 2

Samsung says that all their flagship devices, including the GS3 will get the software improvements, anything not related to hardware, like ir.
I don't want to downgrade screen sizes so Note 3 is when I'm making my move. That S4 Snapdragon CPU is ridiculously fast though and makes me jealous that I only have an Exynos 4 (which is still fast).
Edit: I hate to be critical but I'm just pointing out the Roman numeral for '4' is 'IV'. Sorta bugged me that you were calling it a Galaxy S6 haha

**** yeah! Galaxy S6!
I think it's cool, but no exynos for America. That's a bummer. I don't really want a snapdragon chip in a phone I use, unless the next Google phone is that. Plus the note has a good chip and is unlockable. Along with a lot of aosp support. So far th is year nothing tickles my pickle like the note 2 has.

May I ask why you dislike the Snapdragon? I've heard the US version will be slightly faster than the Exynos 5 chip. On top of that, Snapdragon CPUs can be over clocked to oblivion lol

Note 3 or bust! :good:
Processor is irrelevant to me. The note 2 has never lagged for me nor have I seen any even remote hang ups. S4 looks pretty nice but for me to upgrade from the note 2 it will take more than the s4.

Just give me the damn software for it and I'm good.

I'm sure it will, I just hope it doesn't take awhile. I think we'll be close to the Note 3 release before we see these features though, but I hope I'm wrong. Maybe the features will be easy to port (from 4.2.2 to 4.1.1) and we'll see these features in roms shortly after the S4 release

Agreed. This will be the first time I've stayed put. Anyone who knows me knows I flip phones like people change their oil. This time? Yeah, I like the looks and stuff, but I think my N2 can keep up.
This will all change when I hold one once lol

You guys are right. The phone shows no sign of lag on stock kernel with Project Butter Jelly Bean. Guess the updated processors on these upcoming devices are just an added speed bonus.
Edit: although I'm anxious to see how the S4's battery life is on the newer processors and 2600 mah battery.

I've found that the exynos stays a lot cooler during extended use, then compared to my brothers DNA.
Ive noticed my note 2 being a lot cooler than my last 2 htcs with snap dragons

I feel like at this point improvement in the processor world needs to be battery life, however even that is still minor. I just don't see how a processor even twice as powerful could have any real world benefit.

I just want the update with the new features that don't require the new sensors. I'm pretty happy with my Note.
