you should start off by going to the correct forum section for your phone. once you have done that, you might be able to do a little reading and figure it out. posting should be a last resort after you have bothered to do ANYTHING yourself
I already told him that in his other post. And I was nice about it. But the fact that he chose to ignore it and clearly doesn't even know what forum he's in tells me maybe he shouldn't be trying to root at all.

Hello guys,
i have searched around forums about rooting the S2 and encountered alot, but I still have my fears as none of them was specifically for the version I have, detailed below. Please give me some links regarding this version because I dont want to loose my phone
and yes, I am an intermediate computer user. So I will understand most of the terms anyway. Thanks.
Model: GT-I9100
Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband: I9100BUKI1
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] #2
Build: GINGERBREAD.BUKJ3
Thanks guys
Ive no time to search properly but youd be better updating to 4.0.3 for your region etc then root from there.

There is a forum for your device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1301
Read the stickies and then read them again, not trying to be a Dink but that's really the best thing to do. Once upon read the stickies if u have questions try searching, most of your questions have probably been asked before. Then after doing all that if u still have questions ask away and u will find the members here more than helpful. Good luck!

As stated, just use the app to root, reboot the phone into recovery when it's done, and install(flash) whatever rom you want.

That is a very good ROM you've chosen. Have you got root? If not search around the Q & A there's loads of guides for it. Also you're on v 4.0.4 which has the emmc brick bug so flash a siyah or dorimanx kernel asap

Thanks for reply i have a couple of questions:
There is written this in about my phone:
Baseband: I9100XXLQ6
Buildnumber: IMM76D.XWLPY
What does that mean? Cuz some roms have a different numbers like XWLS8. Can i still use it??
On Sammobiles website there is written different numbers like i mentioned below. Can i still use it without breaking my device?

Yes. That number is simply the build number of the rom.
Hey everyone, I just bought a used unlocked Galaxy S2 I9100 and I've been reading guides all day long about rooting, roms, flashing etc.
The phone came with Ressurection Remix and Siyah kernel, here are the full details:
Model Number
GT-I9100
Android Version
4.1.2
Baseband version
I9100XXLPX
Kernel version
3.0.31-Siyah-s2-v5.0.1+
[email protected] #6
SMP PREEMPT Sun Nov 11 12:25:24 PST 2012
AOKP version
M1
Build number
Resurrection Remix JB v3.1.2 by Westcrip
The question is how do I go back to the stock kernel and stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 ? A lot of guides around here talk about backing-up your phone but I guess that doesn't apply to me since I don't have any apps/contacts ?
If I want to install a different kernel do I just apply it with Odin over the current one or do I have to uninstall it first ?
I might have more questions later so bear with me as I don't want to brick my phone...yet
Mobile odin is the app for you.

+1 mobile odin is a great app.
Or you can just use a recovery to flash another kernel/rom.
Flash LSD over Odin .

There are so many guides for upgrading it's impossible you've missed them. Search here on xda (or on google) and learn how to do it. No need for asking in a new thread because the answers are already out here.
