I promise you, if you follow the directions, it's fine. It's been done around 30 times with no issues in testing.
And everybody should know by now, these sorts of hack are always a risk.
We assume that risk all the time.

If you have problems or errors or it doesnt feel right, you need to come ask for help before continuing.
What was this posted again? I posted this in the proper subforum, where activity is being monitored and support is being given.
These bricks are likely recoverable, join #unbrick on freenode and get my attention. You will need linux
HTCdev still no luck

Just got done running everything. It all appeared to work just right, phone restarted just fine no bricks or anything. Got to the end on HTCdev and it said (Error 160, MID not allowed). Any idea what may have gone wrong?

All the steps leading up to that were fine. But it looks like adb restore isn't a recognized command. My phone isn't prompting me for a restore.

I need some help, and as I always say I don't ask for help unless I really can't find a solution. I tried unlocking my bootloader using the HTCDev method, but when I try to flash the unlock code bin file it gets stuck saying its sending and never moves. Same happened weeks back with my HTC Mytouch 4g Slide and I had somehow got it to work after fiddling here and there. I have HTC Sync uninstalled (I even reinstalled it to uninstall it again and keep the drivers) and I even eliminated my PDANet which seems to cause issues in situations like this. Rebooted my computer literally over 10 Times, same bull. I just can't remember how I got it working on my MyTOUCH. SO...I'm on hboot 2.09 and was wondering if these files would downgrade the hboot or something. All drivers seem to be proper, so I don't see why I'm having issues. I'm familiar with the adv and fastboot tools, I even made the android folder on the main harddrive directory that every post recommends , have the unlock_code.bin there but its the issue of not pushing. I have an old PC but if it worked on my MyTOUCH at one point I doubt it has anything to do with it.
So I wanted to know if its possible to downgrade the hboot to use a different method.
The method of rooting the phone is the same regardless of Hboot, so downgrading won't help you. Click the link in my sig and go to the section that contains the bootloader unlocking tools. Click on the WinDroid toolkit and see if you have any luck with that, instead.

Not root, unlocking the bootloader. It says Sending and never does a thing. It should say Okay immediately after pushing the file but its not doing anything for me. Its supposed to quickly give you a disclaimer on your phone to select whether or not to unlock the BL, but all my phone does is sit in fastboot mode. So I wanted to know if these stock restore things can downgrade the HBOOT as well so I can unlock it in a different manner instead of HTCDev's method. I've been stuck with a locked bootloader for a week since purchasing this phone. My MyTouch4g slide had the same issue but I had done something that got it going, in this case, I've tried everything. Also these self made executable programs like WinDroid give me a "not a valid Win32 application" message on my laptop. They just won't run at all.

There is no other method to unlock the bootloader aside from HTC Dev. Doesn't matter what Hboot version you're on or what software version you have. Even programs like regaw_leinad's toolkit uses HTC Dev-it just automates the entire process.

Hmm come to think of it your right I have seen the scripts mention HTCDev. So what can I do to get it to flash that Unlock_code.bin? HTC Sync is uninstalled, PDANet is also gone, the drivers have been left behind. No LOL went outside for a second. I would definitely let you help, BUT I'm using an OLD Dell laptop. So old I think cavemans existed when it was invented. My HP is in repair. Bought it new, came faulty, sent for repair. Came back, new issues, right back to HP, so I'm using this wifiless crap for now. I haven't bothered buying it a WiFi adaptor since its so darn old. I mean what can be done with 128mb of ram? Imagine.
It has USB 1.0 ports, I read some discussions that it maybe the case, but the same was said about my old MyTouch 4G Slide and the token went thru eventually.

Hey guys, I am looking into an HTCDev unlock solution for your Incredible 4G devices and I think I may have something here. I'm interested in the /misc partition. The one that andybones sent me only said...
Code:
recovery
--wipe_all
FNOC
FNOC
but the /misc partition should have more info in it than that. Here is what my EVO 4G LTE says in /misc...
Code:
SPCS_001
DeviceWarmBoot
CE Serial InUse
Debug Cable Ena
CE USB InUse
ClearAutoImage
2.13.651.1
EBR_Update
GiftDone
recovery
--preload_content=/sdcard/update.zip
FNOC
FNOC
I'm thinking you guys might have had the same issue we did where flashing a recovery borked the /misc partition. (ours looked like andybones does now before we found the issue was recovery) So, if there is anyone out there that has a stock, rooted device (and DIDN'T flash recovery!), please let me know. I will work with you 1 on 1.
The other option is to RUU back to stock (if you kept your unlock token), htcdev unlock, root, don't flash recovery and then check /misc partition. Post in here if you want to help, adb knowledge would be best. Please tell me what you have done to your phone. We will go from there
No one, really?
I will work with you on this one. I installed recovery though so I'll need to RUU back and do the whole unlock process again. I can't jump on it right now but should be ok to do so in a couple of hours.

Yeah, I saw it seconds after he posted it. I just didn't have anything to say because I'm stuck unrooted, otherwise I would have jumped on it, too.
Also, I was unaware that the unlock code stayed forever. Awesome for you guys. I know the unlock token that the bootloader generates every time I check it changes, as part of HTC's new security measures, so I really didn't think reusing the same code would work, since it's a one-time password and all...
I didn't reply earlier because I thought -viperboy- was looking specifically for roooted stock users that didn't change their recovery. I changed my recovery. So I wasn't certain how much use I would be. If it just takes going back to the ruu then I would be willing to help as well.
Might not be helping after all. I can find my unlock_code.bin file. :/

Not much to say yet. -viperboy- is looking in to the file that I sent him. I will do some more experiments tomorrow (can't today as I am at work) to see what causes files to change. After I flashed the recovery nothing changed for me in the /misc partition but once I went back to the stock recovery files disappeared.
That's where things are at on my side of the fence. I'm sure -viperboy- will post if he finds anything.
Might have an idea for root! Send me a PM only if you have ADB experience and are available right now!!

I was going to S-Off but lack of clear directions and dead links and such I decided against it.
What my problem is is that I that I flashed ViperRez when It first came out and now I'm not able to flash any other Rom.
I know I need to extract the boot img from the ROM i want to use and flash it BUT I cant get adb to run on my system.
I know about renaming to PH98IMG and flashing it.
I even took the the PH98IMG from an existing Rom and dropped the boot img I wanted into that folder and zipped it back up.
I have tried to flash several boot images many different ways and always no image found. :crying:
I have read every help file on this and followed the directions but still no luck. Can anyone help a old man out..

So basically adb wont recognize your device? if so you could try to reinstall the drivers and that might help.
Not sure about the dead links, but I think the S-Off directions are pretty clear. Seriously, this kind of trouble is exactly why you do want S-Off. The amount of hassle you are spending on this would probably have already resulted in S-Off.

Well, you could back up everything on your rom and backup your internal storage and try to use the global RUU to get back to complete stock and then that will probably fix the problem. RUU fixes most problems.

Yes I've tried fastboot as well as adb neither works anymore , not even funky kernel. I've be dealing with this problem since flashing AOSP over a month ago.
OP try flashing Vigor360 by zph pilot , at least his kernel. I can run any sense 3.6 Rom with his kernel zip.

OK so heres as much info as I have off memory.
I was @ relocked bootloader s-off hboot-2.09
had a way of flashing roms through twrp 2.4.4?
roms wouldn't flash
I tried and tried with windows now i am on ubuntu
I thought i was completely dead but the battery light flashed orange a bit then green
Oh i was using the jetjewel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1940512)
to try to get back and it borked on waking device
so I waited to get the light back, just sitting on usb does it with a few power taps
ok trying to get it brickdetect to connect but it fails and I was playing with the power button with a green light and the bottom keys started to flash again, so i tried adb devices and it shows.
adb reboot=bootloader does nothing.
is there a way back to life for me?
I'll gladly share more as or if needed. Thanks 2 all

This might be a no brainer question. Did you try holding the power button for 30 seconds then let go for 10 seconds and try turning it on? I had a similar issue but it wasn't near as bad as yours mine would freeze and just show black screen and flashed the buttons. All I did was restart the phone but it took awhile just to restart the phone like 5mins minimum
Also have you tried accessing bootloader

At first it does nothing, then after a little bit the battery charging light will come on but after I attempted to adb reboot bootloader it has been doing nothing when connected
Alright I took the thing apart pulled the battery now I got the amber light back on. any suggestions as to what I can do now? I am going to try adb just to see if it gets listed as a device or not

Will flashing even happen at this point? I am started to think its done for. but I just had adb so i dont wanna give up.
I'll look at that link in sig. I wasn't able to flash any roms and figured I needed to downgrade but it also had me thinking it was a fix

Great we looked at the same sign thats not there anymore, lol
You did say you're S-off, correct? If so I suggest running VipeRUU if you can get the phone to boot at least to the bootloader. It will put you back totally stock, unrooted & S-on. You can then re-root your phone.
Here is the link to VipeRUU. Run it from your computer:

If you think you gotta trick or two i can try I am appreciative and all ears/eyes,.. Thank You!
So here is my take on this whole situation...
You are s-on(unless you used MoonShine or DirtyRacun to gain s-off) that's why none of the roms flashed
Messing with the downgrade tool most likely did some damage depending on how far you got(it's been a while since I have read the thread but IIRC this tool purposely bricks your phone to enable you to downgrade your hboot) to achieve s-off using LazyPanda for hboot 1.15 and 1.19 before FacePalm and DirtyRacun became available.
Send me a PM and we can try and figure it out

All that sounds like it makes sense now. I was already s-off and didnt need a downgrade. I was ultimately looking to be updated as an end result.
i think i need drivers for windows cause it tries to load a driver when connected but fails.
also what about hboot_recovery or something i can use to come back alive?
Still black screen, Thanks!

great, but my hongkong ver cant s-off.....
OMG i seem to be late for the party! Thanks you @beaups for the great work.
I am new to S-OFF, never done a S-OFF before and so i am little scared about this process, mostly worried about the warranty process.
Please can you tell us the TAMPERED flag can be changed/reset later? Referring to thread from HTC One Q & A - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2488696 i believe there would be a way. your views ?

I will try that, however i think something actually went wrong when i tried to flash the recovery of my phone...
here is what happened ...
I went ahead and flashed CWM and tried to enter recovery. It would not boot and the phone was stuck which showed "Entering recovery ..." and a background HTC Logo.
I hard restarted the device and then entered HBoot to notice TAMPERED at the top of the device - This was weird for me. is this normal ?
I tried to boot into recovery again but it never worked.
I then flashed TWRP recovery which works fine and boots to recovery.

if i remember correctly when i unlocked BL it showed me only "unlocked" which is fine, TAMPERED.

I think it was probably because the prerequisites where not set properly - like on lock screen password, fastboot removed etc. i am guessing this as the error message explicitly tells "you suck".
i also tried to disconnect and connect the device when it showed "adb waiting for device..." as per suggestions here. please note rumrunner says DO NOT disconnect the phone when the process starts.
